Cyrioul damages the trooper with magic missile

Bree hides from the trooper

"Kur, ukufumana izikhali umntu onxibe" calls out the trooper, and the wolf in front of him charges: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 = 19 at Thorek, and bites: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7. The wolf trips: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 Thorek.

The trooper fires again: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18, but this time misses Thorek.

A hobgoblin comes out of the crane building, and fires: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 ineffectively at Thorek, drops his bow, and draws his sword.

Cyrioul curses his lack of preparedness, especially when the hobgoblin emerges from the closer building. "I was here to help decipher texts and verify the properties of items - not hold off a siege of hobgoblins!" he complains to himself.

To stay ahead of the foe at his side, Cyrioul points his second wand at the ground near the hobgoblin's feet, barks a command word, and fills the ground with slippery, rancid grease. He dashes away from the building, staying clear of the wolf, and hopes that his companions don't notice too clearly that he's putting himself between them and the enemy...

Round 2, Initiative Count 13

Cedric hits the ground pretty hard as the wolf bites him in such a way that it makes him lose his balance. He grits his teeth against the pain and indignity, and manages to keep from crying out. Unlike the previous wolf, this makes him a lot less concerned about its well-being. Unfortunately, he can't really do much from the ground, so he takes the risk of standing back up. Once up, he'll step a step back to put a little distance between himself and the wolf and then use that distance to try stabbing the animal.

Flanking the animal with Thorek, Cedric takes advantage of their good tactical positioning to try to finish the creature off before it can do any more damage to them. Round 4, Initiative Count 13

Finally, Cedric thinks to himself as the wolf goes down. Fittingly, it seems, for how frustrating it was to deal with, the final blow was essentially dealt by itself. Oh, irony. Feeling better about things, he turns to start making a plan to deal with the other Hobgoblins, just in time to see Caladra take a terrible blow.

"NO!" he shouts, horrified. She's too far for him to reach, but he has one last ability to channel healing energy today. He has enough of his wits about him to remember that this healing is indiscriminate, and moves just enough so that Caladra is just within his range, so that the wolf and the Hobgoblin which hit her aren't.

The wolf's jaw clamps around his leg but its teeth are stymied by Thorek's metallic skin and the beast collapses like a marionette with its strings cut. With a victorious cry the dwarf turns and charges the nearest hobgoblin.

Charge!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 Damage: 1d10 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (4) = 11

I can't believe I've been forgetting my dwarven attack bonus vs goblinoids this entire time!

Seeing the tide of battle turn (and enemies getting pushed further away), Cyrioul returns to the cover of the tree near the bridge house, and fires another bolt of force at the trooper on the bridge.

Bree feels pretty confident that Thorek can finish off the hobgoblin that slashed Caladra, but that big guy on the bridge is still a menace. Rushing to close the distance, she one more takes aim with her bow, and let's fly.

The arrow arcs and lands squarely, center of the hobgoblin's mass. A fierce grin crosses her face. We might actually pull this off!

Thorek charges and kills the red hobgoblin.

Cedric channels, healing Caladra enough to stop him from bleeding out, but not enough to get him back on his feet.

Bree: Lily has to go next. Same with some others before we get to Bree. She will definitely take the four damage before her turn. But, it hasn't happened yet.

She pushes herself up, sword in hand and looks for the hobgoblin that struck her down only to see it laying in a pool of its own blood. She looks around, rage consuming her and blind to her allies around her. She notices one remaining goblin on the bridge and stalks towards it.

Round 5, Initiative Count 13

Cedric, completely tapped out of most things he can do, rushes forward to help deal with the Hobgoblin on the bridge. Weighed down by his armor and gear, it's going to take him a while to get there. But even slow as he is, he can get close enough that his reflexes can possibly make the difference if it tries to shoot or get closer.

Double Move, swift action enlarge so I'm threatening it.

Wow! I've been convinced it hit for quite a while now. I don't know why. Maybe I saw '12' hp and somehow convinced myself it was 'ac'. You are quite right. And, healthier. Thanks for catching that. I've never said I was perfect, just almost competent.
