What secrets lay within the House of Dust and Ashes?

So this is for the scenario in Disciples of the Dark Gods .
When creating characters, the initial experience total is 2000 pts.

The Emperor protects!

2000 Xp, I don't have my book handy at the moment, That's just enough to push you into rank 3, or is it 4?

How are you handling stat gen?

Awesome. Will update and post character. Thanks!

Generally that will push you to Rank 4.

Pretty much by the book; you can re-roll one characteristic. With 2000 XP you should be able to 'fill in any holes' left by terribly bad rolls.

Dark Archive

Just passing through to say "Hi" to some familiar faces.

Sadly, I have the book "Disciples of the Dark Gods."

Still cleaning up the profile but the Psyker Vector will be prepared to give his life for the Emperor in the near future.

Though depending he may just end up spontaneously erupting into a demon.
Hrmm... perhaps I shall see if I can't afford an explosive collar. That mercy knife is utterly useless for its purpose most times.

This is my character. Just need to post stats -ULTRAGEEK :)

Forgot to roll for Imperial Divination

So, so far we have a Psyker and an Arbitrator.

Sorry, busy week. I'll try to get done this weekend.

cirle wrote:

I'll finish my noble born assassin this weekend!

How much money do we start with? same as starting money?

Mah. So I managed to afford stuff. If only barely.
the explosive collar wiped out the funds I was saving for grenades but its absolutely worth if for peace of mind alone.

I think I've gotten everything corrected on the character.

@Warpfiend

Normal rules is that every 400XP you posses nets you 1 months pay.
So 5x I think.

A normal assassin gets 120+12 per rank

You are a special case as a noble born though. Noble born means your monthy income changes to the "Noble" bracket.

Which is 500+50 thrones per rank.
So you should have something like 2850 thrones to play with.
Which is a staggering sum likely to make you the envy of your peers with revolvers loud as the God-emperors and twice as shiny.

Depending on the type of assassin you desire to be (your WS is better but you could invest points to become balanced or try to be better with guns) You could afford some of the best ranged weapons or something like a power blade.
Though I'd personally spend a good chunk of that money on quality armor. Can't use your shiny weapons if you are dead after all.

I don't know enough about implants, cybernetics and general DH gear to make much of a judgment there but I know I'm buying a Grapnel, a lamp pack and an explosive collar.
Though that last one is just so you guys can off me instantly in case I erupt into a big flaming demon.

OK Making a scum

Rolling for 5 months of income

1st month: 1d10 ⇒ 7 = Steal
Steal income: 15 + 4d10 ⇒ 15 + (6, 1, 8, 6) = 36

2nd month: 1d10 ⇒ 9 = Scheme
Scheme income: 15 + 3d10 ⇒ 15 + (4, 2, 10) = 31

3rd month: 1d10 ⇒ 9 = Scheme
Scrounge income: 15 + 3d10 ⇒ 15 + (2, 2, 8) = 27

4th month: 1d10 ⇒ 8 = Scheme
Scheme income: 15 + 3d10 ⇒ 15 + (7, 4, 5) = 31

5th month: 1d10 ⇒ 3 = Scrounge
Scheme income: 10 + 1d10 ⇒ 10 + (1) = 11

So thats :136 thrones.

Also , in the interest of fairness, shouldn't Vector have to re-roll his stats?

Let me know what you want in case I have some leftover funds. As a noble-born assassin I'm thinking of having a mini-arsenal available

Silver Crusade

Shouldn't we also get starting wealth from table 1-9?

Actually I get 3200+(3d10)x2

starting 2x(150+3d10)
month 1 400xp(R1) -500
month 2 800xp(R2) -550
month 3 1200(R3) -600
month 4 1600(R3) -600
month 5 2000(R4) -650

starting money: 3d10 ⇒ (5, 6, 9) = 20 x2

3240 thrones

Posting char soon

I have several rule-clarifications I need before finalizing my character:

1) if I have "Swift Attack" (as a full action you may make 2 attacks), and I have a weapon in each hand ("Ambidextrous" + "Two-weapon wielder" as well) can I make 2 attacks with EACH hand?

2) I keep looking for the benefits of using a weapon in each hand, but it seems that taking 2 half-actions (attack+attack) is the best choice, can you do this?

3) I was thinking of going for 2 melee weapons, but I see no benefits to it. Am I missing something? (still only allowed 1 parry, right? The only benefit I see in using 2 weapons is 2 pistols since I can choose to shoot semi-auto or full-auto for lots of possible hits.

4) "Furious Assault" doesn't mention this is only in melee, can I use it ranged?

Sorry for all the questions, I swear I'm a roleplayer, not a rollplayer ;D Just as the identity of the character is quite heavy on his fighting style I wanna make sure I'm doing it right

@Vuvko
I assume so? I'm unsure if that is meant to be like pathfinder where the WBL is different for each class at first level and then evens out after you hit L2.

Assassins are supposed to be good at killing stuff. Thats kind of what they are for.
Though you'll likely want to try and grab some of the sneaking/espionage skills as well. Combat in DH is swift and brutal, focus too heavily on any one aspect in the game and you'll be bored for lots of stuff.

The dark heresy errata page has a longer explanation on how the TWF feats interact.

Handy link

If you'd prefer to not look though.

Swift Attack on page 122 should include the addition “If you
have the Two-Weapon Wielder talent and are wielding two melee
weapons, you get the advantage of Swift Attack with only one
of the weapons, and a single attack with the other. If you have
the Two-Weapon Wielder talent and are wielding a melee weapon
in one hand and a pistol in the other, you get the advantage of
Swift Attack with the melee weapon and a single attack with the
pistol.”

Most of the combat ability interactions are explained on page 11 appendix 1.

All out attack (what furious assault requires) is actually a separate full round action than making multiple attacks so sadly is doesn't combine.

The advantage to TWF is that enemies can only dodge or parry a blow one time. there are some talents that can increase that but assuming you go down the TWF/swift/lightning tree you can get up to four attacks in total.
Effectively meaning that if you can get your enemy into melee as a close combat character that they die shorty afterward.

TWF is mostly to kill things more and with more ferocity Though in some cases if you have the funds you can use it to fight with one very powerful defensive weapon, for deflecting or parrying attacks along with one for one more suited for killing your foes.

You actually can't do the same action twice in a round amusingly enough.
Take one half action to swim for your life and while you really should be focusing on that sing a rousing hymn to the emperor with your other action.

Just wondering, when is the deadline for characters?

Okey, I'll bite the bullet for the Emperor!

The Emperor is munificent!

I'm not too concerned about starting wealth. You're mid-tier acolytes on a mission for the Imperium. If there is a Rare, or Very Rare, item/weapon/armor that you want; you can pitch to me why you should have it.

As for the Deadline, we'll say by Wednesday, the 16th, all character submissions have to be in (which should include at this point at least brief sketch of your character). Actual play will begin the following Monday (the 21st).

I would like one player to take the following origin package:
Orphan of the Stars : You were discovered as an infant, in the cryo-creche of a life-support pod of archaic design, near the infamous Halo Stars. Origin bonuses and otherwise as per the Void Born origin.

I'll make an alias for him and write a little description.

I tried to keep to the style of military tradition noble. So he wears a high quality mono-sword and pistol at all times. In addition to that a military style mono combat knife and a backup pistol on the chest.

A mix of soldier and noble. To nobles he's like a soldier, "but more so much more elegant and refined" (use noble old lady's voice to read that). To grunts, he looks a bit more like an officer in a propaganda film.

Ok I'll put all my info in this alias' description as well as his background

Let your faith be both your shield and your weapon!

So so far we have a Arbitrator, a Psyker, an Assassin, a Scum, and a Guardsmen.

I'll accept two more players, then the recruitment is closed.

You're going for 7 players? That's going to be quite a handful and probably take quite long for each turn. How about pumping a few more XPs into the 5 of us instead and keeping a group of 5?

True. But one or two people usually drop off. So if we start with 7 we'll actually end up playing with 4 or 5. It doesn't look anyone else is joining, so it looks like it'll be you 5.

Here's Spazmodeus' scum :)

I'll get backstory and description done tomorrow.

I will throw my hat in. 40k is a small group here on Paizo and we should stick together. I have been in love with 2nd ed lately, but this is a classic adventure leading into the classic (and in my opinion best) Harlock Campaign.

I would like to bring in a Sister Of Battle from the Inquisitor's Handbook. If that is too much of a zealot for this group I would just bring in a cleric then.

Great to get more people, just make sure they aren't going to clash with us for having a scum and an assassin. Although from what I've read in people's backgrounds, those that have written one, we're all very loyal to the Imperium and not afraid to get our hands dirty for it.

A Sister would not bat an eye to a loyal assassin, deathcult assassins are employed by the sisterhood. I will not try to but heads with the scum.

Fantastic!

If you get the chance, please grab "Navigation (Surface)" and/or drive (ground vehicle)

...or if any of you other guys has the option to, like our Feral Worlder Guardsman

I've got Drive (hover) and Pilot (civilian craft), but I'm too stupid to navigate. We've also got 2 that can fly and navigate a spaceship... but none can drive a car.

I have both Drive ground and navigation. Immolators need drivers after all. :)

starting wealth: 2d10 + 70 ⇒ (10, 6) + 70 = 86
Divination: 1d100 ⇒ 74

And with that I believe I am finished. I will buy some additional gear with that starting wealth and add my divination, but I should be finished. I plan on breaking into Hospitaller next rank and grabbing Medicae, as of now I only have access to Trade(Apothecary). Oh and a backstory as well.

Sorry didn't get a chance to get the fluffy bits done tonite...
