Razagal holds on to his whip as he tries to pull Radha away from the vines. Unfortunately, the diminutive gnome is heavier than she looks.

As he pulls Radha away he launches into an inspirational speech, trying to inspire courage. - Inspire courage: +1 morale on save vs charm/fear, +1 competence on att/weap dmg rolls

Razagal stares incredulously at Radha as she awkwardly starts pelting tiny rocks at the plant.

"Look, we need to change our tactics! This isn't working. Your pebbles don't seem to do any harm, nor does my whip - and I doubt that vegetable will even notice if I prick it with my rapier.
But we have a major advantage - mobility. As long as we stay out of reach of those tendrils it can't do us any harm.

It's just a plant, right? It's rooted on the spot. I have a flask of oil on me - perhaps we can set it alight?"

Scarab Sages

As Radha stands up the vines of the plant start to whip around her ankles

AOO vs Radha: 1d20 ⇒ 8

but quick and nimble as Radha is she easily avoids getting slapped but it does throw her off balance as her slung stone drops to the ground as it falls with out building up any momentum.

Razagal tries to inspire everyone..if it will have the desired effect..who knows? For now it just fills the empty eery courtyard with even more noise besides the sound of battle to attract attention to the party.

The plant continues it's relentless attacks as it slowly crawls around the ground

To hit Radha: 1d20 ⇒ 18
To hit Radha 2: 1d20 ⇒ 13

And still being a bit of balance one if's vines manages to slam into Radha's upper leg but again the impact doesn't hurt as much as it's absorbed by the though leather and is only causing some more chemical burning

The flask sails through the air in a majestic arc until it shatters on the wall just above the plant's stem and roots, soaking them in oil.

Not improvised, just a ranged weapon attack..but you hit

The oil soaked vines seem smoother, more shiny and appear to be real though to get a good grip on right now...and they look just a tiny bit more flammable then 6 seconds ago.

Scarab Sages

The vines creep closer to the nearest target but end up just a tiny bit short of Razagal

Since I didn't put up a combat map for this; Razagal is at max whip length which is 15ft and with a retreat Radha should be 25 ft away..the plant moves 10 ft closer to Razagal..so that's 5ft from Razagal and roughly 15 from Radha

All the while he continues to speak words of courage and inspiration.
"C'mon, keep faith! As long as we stay out of its reach we have the upper hand! As soon as I find my torch we'll burn this abominable vegetation to the ground."

Scarab Sages

After finding out the Razagal isn't inpiring Radha to new heights of greatness the slung stone lands 5ft short of it's intended target..it still hits some plants...but not the dangerous kind..more the nice scenery type.

Before reloading the blunderbuss

Razagal steps back while continuing to try to inspire Radha while retrieving a way to bring the heat during his...tactical retreat.

"Really? I... I didn't fully expect to actually find any here. I wasn't sure if I could trust her but... well.. it seems much more likely now."

Ezzemon looks over his shoulder at the crow flying away.

"Healing... mmm no, I'm afraid I haven't found anything that can help me do that yet. I was hoping to find things that can help me discover their power. Did you know there's power in common everyday items? Sure, I've heard about magical swords, protective amulets, rings that make you disappear, but I've found out there's more to it."

Ezzemon is getting enthusiast about this but suddenly remembers these are total strangers that he's talking to.

"Ahum... yes. That woman... I met her on the road. I think she's some kind of gypsy? She asked if she could foretell my future. I figured her for a fraud but was interested by the set of brass bones she was using to do her foretelling. She told me to head a certain direction. I followed it and after going through that misty forest down the road, I walked into you guys."

And look at these runes here on the wall... It's a good thing you didn't venture here during the night."

Razagal studies the man a bit more closely.
I don't trust you one bit.. let's see how sincere you are and what you know.. And where the hell has that Tom character run off to? I haven't seen him since we entered this blasted place.

Hmmm... maybe we have just found ourselves a new meatshield...

He smiles warmly at the newcomer and extends his hand:
"Well met Ezzemon. I am Razagal and my companion there is Radha.

Say, you wouldn't happen to know anything about runes, would you? I can't quite make sense of them yet and I feel they are they key to laying the spirits who dwell inside to rest."

But you find power in everyday items? Like a comb? Or a toilet plunger? I know my blunderbus can pack quite the punch. But most other stuff don't hold much power as far as I know.

But like Razagal said, these runes might mean something. Otherwise I'd say we better leave. If the plants here are already this nasty, I don't want to meet the rest of this place unprepared.

Just a repeat of the runes in case Ezzemon wants to examine them;while we wait to see if you go back to town (I think you do?)

The ivy and grass have been cleared along the edge where the foundation meets the ground, and along this edge a series of sinuous
runes has been etched and then smeared with blood. The runes go around the entire building’s foundation save for the northeast corner, where part of the building has flooded and the foundation has crumbled away. (Knowledge (Arcane) check to know more about the runes.

He moves close to Radha to support her. When he is near he whispers
"I don't trust this - a random stranger who happens to come by just as we are weary from our fight with that plant? It's a little too damn convienent if you ask me. Keep your eyes peeled..

He pauses for a moment, then leans down to pick up a stick and scrawl a short cryptic message for Tom in the dirt, to let him know they have returned.

Out loud he speaks:
"Yes, perhaps that would be best. We really need to get back to town to have someone look at your leg. Please lead the way, friend Ezzemon. I will follow, caring for my companion."

Taking up the front of their little group, Ezzemon follows their directions to the village. Radha's leg looks like Saama's arm back home when she accidentaly got it stuck in the large cog in the mill. Luckily it was her right arm, and she uses her left most. Poor Saama was in pain for months and was lucky when a travelling healer felt sorry for her and relieved her of most of her pain.

As soon as they get to the inn, Ezzemon asks Razagal:

"Razagal, can you do anything to help her? Or should I go find a healer?"

If Razagal watches over Radha, Ezzemon will go look at the temple of Pharasma.

Assuming Radha is taken back to Von Richten's Mansion Kendra fuzzes over the gnome, being used to seeing wounds from Von Richten she takes charge and bandages and cleans Radha's wounds..she seems to know what she is doing.

And then with bloody hands wipes some stray hair from her face before introducing herself to Ezzemon

"It's a pleasure to meet you. But I wish we'be have met under better circumstances. My name is Kendra. Who might you be?"

----------------------
If Ezzemon goes to the temple and tells about the injured Radha there is an acolyte (a young brown haired man) who will travel with him to take a look at the wounds and who can only confirm that Kendra indeed knows what she is doing in dressing wounds. He does seem to wonder about how the wounds came to be..but he's to polite (or maybe a bit scared) to ask about then directly since he doesn't need to know the specifics to adres the injuries

There isn't much else the acolyte can do, unless you plan to make a donation to the Church of Pharasma? He raises one of his eyebrows as he holds out one of his hands and mutters something about covering expenses and time spend.
The man takes his leave after finishing what he came here to do.

Since Joost is going to be gone for a while we can also just assume that Radha spends some time resting and the rest of you can go do something you want..just give me an idea of what you plan to do and we'll figure out what happens. Go around town? Go back to the prison (and look for Tom)? Go somewhere else? Inform Ezzemon on what's going on here and have a fresh set of eyes go over the information you have gathered so far and base a new direction on that? Do something I haven't thought of?

"Well...There's always the library, but I don't think they'd let an outside like yourself in there on a whim...And there's the Temple..they keep records on everything...but they are even less likely to let you see their notes then the library is"

Ezzemon tries to remember if he's ever heard anything about Harrowstone before and finds out that with the help of the spirits he's able to come up with quite a lot of rumors about the place from memory

Harrowstone is a ruined prison— partially destroyed by a fire in 4661, the building has stood vacant ever since. The locals suspect that it’s haunted, and don’t enjoy speaking of the place.

Harrowstone was built in 4594. Ravengro was founded at the same time as a place where guards and their families could live and that would produce food and other supplies used by the prison. The fire that killed all of the prisoners and most of the guards destroyed a large
portion of the prison’s underground eastern wing, but left most of the stone structure above relatively intact.
The prison’s warden perished in the fire, along with his wife, although no one knows why she was in the prison when the fire occurred. A statue commemorating the warden and the guards who lost their lives was built in the months after the tragedy—that statue still stands on the riverbank just outside of town.

Most of the hardened criminals sent to Harrowstone spent only a few months imprisoned, for it was here that most of Ustalav’s executions during that era were carried out. The fire that caused the tragedy was, in fact, a blessing in disguise, for the prisoners had rioted
and gained control of the prison’s dungeons immediately prior to the conf lagration. It was only through the self sacrifice of Warden Hawkran and 23 of his guards that the prisoners were prevented from escaping—the guards gave their lives to save the town of Ravengro.

I was giving you some time for in party rp..but it seems it hasn't caught on....

Letting himself be guided away by Razagal the half-elf, Ezzemon wonders about Radha's plant remark.

Must be the injuries, spirits might also have messed with her memories, I will have to look into that some other time..

Ezzemon's interest is sparked by Razagal's explanation of their earlier work.

"That sounds intriguing Razagal. Kendra, if we have some time, would you be so kind to let me take a look too? I would be in your debt."

To Razagal the blue eyed man seems nothing special, he doesn't seem nervous, doesn't seem to try to hide something. He has the look of a normal honest, although rather muscular, man. Oh and the raggedy warhammer, that's something that makes him stand out a bit. The mentioning of his home though seems to sadden him. In a soft voice he speaks about it:

"It's quite a small place really, it makes sense if you don't know it. You can get there by travelling a few days by foot eastwards from that pine forest I travelled through. It's near Kusnar, in the Southbrook duchy."

Both Kusnar and the Southbrook duchy aren't well known places and only those with a rather extensive geographical knowledge will have heard of them.

DM/players can cause some further confusion here, maybe there's no pine forest around, maybe there is, maybe they also came from the same direction but there's definitely no Kusnar or Southbrook duchy there. .

You can't retry searching for information until you gain new insights on the subject (other wise known as getting a new level)..so if it's something you haven't looked into before you go do so now, but trying to find something you've missed before..you need a new source of information for that in which you might get a re-try ..or it might just contain the information you are after.

Razagal shows Ezzemon what he's found so far.

"I am certain this library contains a wealth of information.. but frankly, I don't know where to start looking. We'll need a concrete lead lest we spend an eternity fruitlessly poring over these tomes. A luxury we do not have."

He carefully places the books back on the shelves before turning to Ezzemon.

"You have heard about dr. van Richten, I presume?"

"Well.. actually, no. But I understand that you did. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to him."

Assuming for speed's sake that Ezzemon has been told some of the things that have happened. Maybe too about what's in the journal?

Ezzemon hasn't seen many books in his life. The occasional book that found its way to Blind Man's Mill most often did end up in his hands, and since finding out about the powers in objects, he has also been looking at books. There's books with powers too, quite different from what he finds in say a weapon or a household item. This is the first time in his life that he sees this many books. Ezzemon walks past the books, trailing their covers with his hand, listening to what the books tell him. Detect Magic

"So a fire killed the warden, the guards and all the prisoners? Is it known who were imprisoned at that time?"

"I haven't been able to uncover that information yet.. We have an appointment with the preacher who spoke on van Richten's burial, perhaps he can tell us more. Or else there is a library in town, but the local powers guards access to that information jealously for the time being. Perhaps they will reconsider if we prove ourselves to be friends of the locals."

He focuses his gaze on Ezzemon.

"Or perhaps you have an other suggestion?"

In order to get back up to speed and start doing this..maybe assume you guys wait a week, hang around try to go through the library here and don't find anything inside the manor. Radha recovers fully..you all suffer from a few days of nightmares, loose your appetite and will to live? ..well, maybe not that last one (yet) and we pick it up there so at least all of you are in full fighting form?

Ezzomon's search of the house doesn't turn up anything magical..book or otherwise

Works for me. What about my performance at the inn? And I think we had a meeting planned with the local priest too - unless we already did that, need to re-read the posts I guess
