Kakao Mit Schlag |
Kakao and I have been together for only a short while game time, but in real time it's been a long wait.
Cyanne
Jan 28th was when we started with the spoilers and the two of us meeting. They were in the middle of talking with Mother Molvor and meeting Mikka. We got the Roll20 link on Feb. 1st.
To be fair to Trux though, the spider combat has been going since Feb. 9th. Combat takes very little game time but a lot of calendar time. I think each round is supposed to be 6 seconds?
I don't think it is bad if we wait for the combat to end, but I would rather not wait out a second combat before an introduction is made and we join the rest of the group.
trux |
I love keeping it simple karl, but in loving kindness, it took you guys a week and three days before you integrated the last party member! If we are talking dates, let's say the tenth of february. Man, I was planning on three days at most.
And I was happy to let each of you sense motive Molvor as well, but again, calendar time. So, main group, please be aware that staying locked in on your objectives will/would get cyanne and kakau in faster.
Thanks kakao.
Kakao and cyanne I would add that just because you aren't with the party doesn't mean you aren't a part of the adventure. I've quite enjoyed your romp with gillig, and there may be information you can glean from the village where the others could not. Simply by vitrue of timelines and other published adventure doohickeys.
Heading into work right now, and I'll see if I can't bounce something off our friend grimmy today. Gameplay post for both groups (per usual) asap today.
Further note: having two more healers around at this point would probably make our npcs very healthy indeed.
Hmm |
Do you want those NPCs unhealthy, Trux?
I'm sure that we can arrange some little mishap for them.
Hmm shakes canister of Barkclaw Chow. "Here Barkclaw... here! Look, yummy NPCs!"

Posting as Hmm rather than as Cyanne, since Cyanne is a goody little two shoes who would never harm a hair on a friendly NPC.

No, no, no!
If they are to die by our hands, it should be them drinking themselves to death! We can even supplement with some of those mushrooms that were pointed out to me.
Posting as Kakao, since he would help someone drink themselves to death.

I have yet to see what the NPC's bring to the table other than adding more turn to combat. And yes, while it is somewhat realistic, interrogating a new party member does add a bout a day or two of posts.
Cyanne Miller |
Poor Trux! We had such fun reacting to the lack of names, though....
I hope you don't mind.
trux |
Clarification: the "lodging" referenced in the spoiler in Gameplay titled "operation parachute" would be Kakao's request for the villagers to care for his pack animal. (Sorry, I thought it was a donkey, not a mule, when I made the post.)

I have to admit that on occasion the slang is difficult for me, too... I had no idea what 16 corners was either, so couldn't respond.
Bret's comment about coins makes me think of how they did in some periods of history actually cut sections out of some coins to make smaller denominations. Pieces of eight comes to mind from pirate lore. Once, "quarters" were literally quartered coins.
Are you basing your NPC dialect off the slang of a certain period? Is there a glossary somewhere online, Trux?
trux |
I'm just using slang to spice things up. Just like the however many leagues of silver promised montepierre.
Basically, there is an agreement for payment. It sounds impressive. I haven't decided what the payout would be. Your characters would lack the context usually to understand what they are implying, so I throw in the slang.
Montepierre and kaerl have merchant-speak and these fellows have a bit more of a streetwise angle on things. Mystery keeps things interesting and you on your toes! Stay on your toes! Or else! Not everything is to be understood, you know. ... Not everything needs to be.
Edit: Obfuscation has its purpose. Your DM enjoys obfuscating things to keep the mystery humming and the nasty horrible. We're not the "here is the same dungeon played widely and poularly and shared widely" like rise of the runelords or kingmaker, say. I hope you guys can take pride in being the key players in such a story. Even if we are kind of on rails until we get to endhome, we can change that if the party gets tired of hollowmanning.
Happy sunday all.
Morti Hearthstone |
Morti's ready to follow the trail as long as it's there to follow; he's gotten pretty fed up with having to go back to Levoca and tell Kaerl and Anna he's failed again.
Grimmy |
I am not enjoying reading this game as a lurker so much the past couple weeks. There is a hint of an adversarial mood coming through with the posts from the new players or something? Dunno, can't put my finger on it. I always chalk it up to misunderstanding based on the limits of a text based medium (no body language to read) but reading this game gives me a case of GM burnout just by proxy lately :/
Hope you are not burning out Trux, and hope work is good too...
Cyanne Miller |
Grimmy (and Trux)
There were as far as I know 2 snippy posts from Cyanne. Both in discussion not in gameplay.
I realize that I was feeling left out -- unintegrated. I snapped, hard and posted twice about killing off NPCs.
This was uncalled for. I apologize.
But I think my posts in gameplay have been solid... Cyanne is suspicious of the Men in Black who have not given her their name, and who are hunting someone she has only seen in dreams but is sworn to protect.
If my tone was off otherwise, or my gameplay is disruptive, tell me what I can do to fix it.
I assure you that there has never been an adversarial mood in gameplay, and since the parachute option opened, I have been happy.
Yes, I didn't understand the sixteen quarters, but I shrugged it off and just asked if there was a glossary. It was not meant as a criticism of Trux, whom I admire greatly.
Yours,
Hmm
(Who is now seriously bummed and wondering what to do.)
Grimmy |
Yeah that was it, I remember there was some comment about NPC's that made me feel funny I think. Because hey, Trux is not running GMPC's to steal spotlight, he is just running them for continuity (one is his character he had to give up to take over running, and the other was abandoned by a player and he's been running that PC so the party can be healed and stuff). I mean come on now he usually leaves them in the barn and they only come with if requested, you know?
Anyway I didn't know if I was imagining it, there just seemed to be some undercurrent of tension.
Just commenting as a lurker reading the game.
Cyanne Miller |
Grimmy, you may have done us a favor... It's given me a chance to publicly and privately apologize to Trux.
Hmm
Cyanne Miller |
I value what Trux has done here.
I really do. And I don't want a short-term frustration that bubbled to the surface last Thursday color our future interactions.
I thought that Trux and I were okay. I was happy with the solution that he worked out. Trux, I am sorrry that I was not as explicit with expressing that gratitude as I was my earlier complaint about feeling left out.
I can't tell you how awful I feel about this.
Here I am, supposed to be this good communicator... I guess we all mess up sometimes.

Trux and Grimmy,
I hadn't intended any antipathy in my posts. There are some OOC comments that I meant as self-deprecation -- people are not going to be impressed with Kakao's stealth skills. Poor skills are to be expected, especially with low level clerics.
I've been confused by some of the things that happened, but based on Trux's post above some of that was intensional. I've tried to comment here in discussion when there was something that I wasn't clear on.
I had gotten the impression that Trux was feeling pressured, but I thought it might have been real life getting in the way. If something I wrote added to the pressure, I truly am sorry.
I've got lots of experience in various types of face-to-face RPG, this is my first attempt at any sort of PBP. I've read various advice docs on this site, but reading about it and doing it are often two different things. The pacing is completely different.
Suggestions on what I could do better would be very welcome -- publicly or privately.
-Bret
DM Grimmy |
Nope no suggestions from me, you guys have well written posts with thought put into them and you make good use of every tool in the PbP toolbox. I would have accepted you guys in my game in a heartbeat if you had turned up there instead of here. I was just sensing this weird unhappy vibe lately and was wondering if it was in my head because you never can tell without body language cues, facial expressions, tone of voice (at least I can't).
Cyanne Miller |
Are we cool, Trux? Really, really okay?
Cyanne hugs Trux!
Maybe we should even have a group hug?

Guys! Sorry. trux PM'd me and said that my post was not appropriate for public, and should have been said privately or not at all. I'm sure he is right. Guys I suffer from bi-polar disorder... I have something called manic episodes, and mild hypo-manic phases, during which I basically have no filter if that makes sense. Basically I see a dot in my campaign page, click it, read the new posts, whatever goes through my mind comes out my finger :/ Not an excuse, I am an adult and need to manage these behaviors in my day to day life all the time. Some people (a few) actually like me when I'm like this and even feel that it is the real me, but the general public usually is made uncomfortable by it. Just sharing this so you know I was not intending to make a value judgement about anyones contributions, just "I read this and it made me feel this way shrug" I'm an odd duck I know :/ If you know me though, I am actually full of love for the world.
Maybe it is a good idea if I undot this thread 0_o So I don't lurk it and leave unsolicited observations (-_-) Oh well.
Sorry! Game on.

We all have our crazy, each and every one of us. You're an odd duck, but I like you just the same.

Grimmy everyone has bad days and sometimes has regrets. Explaining the situation I find always helps. Don't undot, your observations are quite welcome as far as I am concerned.
(Argh! group hug!!! Well at least its not spiders)
Remember we are in this for fun.

From what I've seen of trux, I trust he's going to say what he needs to / call a time-out / whatevs. (thanks, trux!)
I think all of us, of long tenure or short, are a bit on the edge of our seats right now, with Things about to happen. As far as I can tell, though, that's largely in-game tension, which is good/appropriate, with a certain amount of ooc hair-pulling as folks wonder whether their group is the one where the action is.
Cyanne / Kakao, I know your thread may seem a bit B-roll by merit of being newer, but there's some crazy interesting stuff going on there while we muck around with swarms! (hope it's okay that i peeked...)
Anyways: group hugs!
Cyanne Miller |
Yay, more people for the Group Hug! Thanks, Karl and Morti!

It's more than okay that you peeked. I've been hoping that most of you have been reading along with our adventures, as we've been reading yours. Especially since I am about to make someone on the 'A' team's life a bit more complicated...
Morti Hearthstone |
I'm not sure if trux is using y'all's thread to clean up loose ends that we missed, or using it as an opportunity to in-game some things that might otherwise have been off-screen. Either way, I like it.
Cyanne Miller |
I just want to say that I am thrilled to be out of the spoilers.
I realized that Kakao posted a description of himself in his post and I didn't. Let me rectify that.

Love the new game quote, Trux! Very nicely done.
