Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Here's a space to speak out of character about the game. I also noticed that I forgot a couple of houserules in the discussion thread. One is that I do not use XP, and levels will be awarded when appropriate for the adventure. The other is that Sneak Attacks will deal maximized damage when the target is entirely unaware of the threat. This can be when they have failed all Perception checks and have no clue the rogue is near, or when they simply do not see the rogue as any kind of threat. Sneak attacks operate normally in other conditions.

Anyhow, I'll be going over your characters tonight looking for mistakes and such and will have a gameplay thread up tomorrow. Until then feel free to check in and discuss how much of the recruitment thread you'd like to be considered canon.

Ok, thanks for the opportunity to play this. I will say that I will try my best to post every day but the 10th and 11th might be short as I am going to a convention 9-12. I will have morning to early afternoon Thursday and Sunday will be that evening. Not saying won't have chance on those days just not sure when.

This is my first game doing this. Will be thankful to any help to do better.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Don't worry about it. I don't post every day and I don't expect others to. Sometimes you're not feeling it, sometimes your busy, things get in the way and I understand. My rules are post at least once aweek, omce every two to three days being optimal. Just give me a heads up if you can't post at least once a week for something.

Thanks for picking Talli for this. I can definitely make the once a week post and I have a habit of stalking these boards. (I ken quit eny time I want offishur. I shwear) As far as considering the recruitment thread canon, I'm up for considering it all canon. Especially since Talliree never got a chance to ask Duilure why he was wearing an otter as a hat.

I am fine with it being a how everything started as well. I am stalking these boards since I found them earlier in week. I have been sick and was at one point not sleeping so was just hitting refresh for the browser.

Will be more than happy to answer the question when we get going. I had already thought about it.

male (HP 11/11 | AC 19 | T 11 | FF 18 | CMD 15 | F +3 | R +1 | W +0 | Init +3 | Per +0) Varisian Fighter 1

Thanks for the opportunity to play in this one - I look forward to it.

I think the post-timing discussion sounds great. I'm also up for taking the initial roleplay as canon.

@ryuko: Something that happened in a previous recruitment - the GM requested players' permission to adopt some of the non-chosen characters as recurring NPCs... I wonder if Zurich will consider himself lucky in choosing a 'less exciting' ruin to explore than whatever the future holds for us, or if he'll consider it judicious scholarship? Does Duilure need a rival academic? Or... does he fade off to a ruin rar west of town, where a tribe of rabid hobgoblins quietly (e.g. off-camera) cook him for lunch after looting his expedition?

Right - enough idle speculation. There's a recent graduate to drink to, then a festival to visit, and a temple to see dedicated. alons!

Thanks for picking me, DM Ryuko. I'm good with the recruitment thread discussion being canon as well. BTW, I'll be out of town the latter half of this week, but if you don't mind a lack of formatting I can post from my phone. I'll at least be able to stay on top of things.

ETA: No problems with organic leveling, either. That seems to be turning into the default for PbP on the boards these days.

male Varisian Human Rogue 1 | AC14 T14 F10 CMD15 | HP 9/9 | F+1 R+6 W+1 | Init+4 | Per+5+

Wow! Cool! What else should I say to make you question my maturity?

Thank you for selecting me to play, too. I think we're going to have a lot of fun, if we can get this Duilure guy out of his shell . . .. <wink>

I just kind of assumed that the introductory material (our try-outs) would be considered part of our stories.

Leveling on command (story-based) instead of tracking XP is far simpler. One less bit of paperwork to stress over as we try to have fun sounds good to me!

Total surprise sneak attacks for max damage worries me, but that's because I'm always afraid of how much things will hurt when used against me! As the rogue of the group, I'm the last guy who should be complaining about that . . .. I'll get over it. Unless/until I get an "I told you so" moment, and then I'll get over it again. <eg> Then again, I'm the guy who said he'll probably forget one house rule or another when he should actually take advantage of it!

Try to smile. This IS supposed to be fun. Honest. Even when I'm rambling.

Oh, I think you'll do just fine, Gudada. After all, you'll have to if you're going to show me around the Festival! :)

I'm fine with the recruitment thread discussions being canon. It's actually a good way to get a group together before the game technically starts.

male (HP 11/11 | AC 19 | T 11 | FF 18 | CMD 15 | F +3 | R +1 | W +0 | Init +3 | Per +0) Varisian Fighter 1

I think Gudada may need the medic shortly, at least if Noro gets a hold of him.

Oh wait.. medic... guess we'll be buying us one of those.

I just realized, we have a summoner, a wizard, a sorcerer, a ranger, a rogue, and a fighter. Methinks we best be trying to recruit a cleric NPC stat.

Talli, I did not notice that. I was just going with stories and not reading other people's characters. Sorry not to have been back sooner. First time in over a week that I slept more than 4 hours. Hope no one has any objections to infernal healing. At least till someone can find or make some wands. I am new to Pathfinder still so don't really know anything about the basics. Guess I need to read how to use Scribe Scroll.

I don't have a spell called Shell at the moment. Why do I need to be outside it?

A few ranks in the Heal skill can go a long way, and I can grab Infernal Healing too if it's really needed. Just wish there was a good version of it somewhere.

male (HP 11/11 | AC 19 | T 11 | FF 18 | CMD 15 | F +3 | R +1 | W +0 | Init +3 | Per +0) Varisian Fighter 1

now there's a walk on the wild (dark?) side. Chadron will be saving that for a last resort, "No, really," wince, groan, clutch, "I'll be fine - my da always taught me to walk it off." <blanch>.

As Elloe says - within reason if anyone's got some decent healing skill, we can probably limp (and groan) along until we pull together enough cash to pick up some medical supplies. It would also probably be useful if some/several folk could Use Magical Devices cleverly. Chadron's not terribly magically inclined, but could probably eke a bit of charge out of his Varisian blood...

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

I still run Infernal Healing as an Evil spell, thus making it a slow corruption. If you still wish to use it that's fine, but it will corrupt you and cause you to slowly turn towards evil. After all, every casting of it is a tiny pact with a devil.

Will have gameplay up in just a moment.

male Varisian Human Rogue 1 | AC14 T14 F10 CMD15 | HP 9/9 | F+1 R+6 W+1 | Init+4 | Per+5+

Neither UMD nor Healing were in the plan. I can adapt, if we need me to. Move my Skill Point in Bluff/Diplomacy/Sense Motive to UMD. I could get to 50% success with a wand at level 3 . . ..

The Sorcerer or Summoner should be able to do better over the long haul (especially if they are willing to spend a Feat like I would be).

I am not familiar with Infernal Healing.

I still hadn't looked at everyone's classes. I figured they would come up when they mattered.

I was thinking of Infernal Healing as the guy is down and make sure he lives type spell. I understand it being played as a spell that is evil. How does corruption work? Is there a place to read about it. I have only seen it on lists and only heard of one person ever using it.

Huh, what if we use Eschew Materials and get rid of the material component?

Honestly, I'm not worried about it too much. Even without Infernal Healing, we should be able to stay patched up enough to handle all but really big threats. We've got a good group.

HP: 14/14 (Strain: 0) (Injury: 0) | AC 13/13/11: F+1, R +3, W +1 | Per:+7, Init: +2 | E. Spit 6/6

Times like these I'm glad I went with a higher CON score.

I'll see if I can move some points around to get UMD trained.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Still an evil spell. I'm very firm on the concept of Cosmic evil in these kind of games. Somethings just shouldn't be. You want your character to skirt the line? That's fine. But there is a line.

And there are no official rules about corruption, just the idea that some spells are simply evil and will take a toll on your morality to use them.

Ok, thanks. I was one that I might take it as a way to save someone that was down and looked like it was going to be permanent but otherwise will have to hope someone gets Brew Potion.

male Varisian Human Rogue 1 | AC14 T14 F10 CMD15 | HP 9/9 | F+1 R+6 W+1 | Init+4 | Per+5+

Brew Potion and Scribe Scroll both require that you have the spell on your spell list. Without a "real" healing character, neither feat will serve the purpose.

Well, Talli has a +6 to UMD now. 35% chance of success, but better than no chance of success.

Well, Thorfinn doesn't appear to be a Skirmisher or a Trapper, so he can use Cure wands without UMD, and I planned on taking some Ranks in Heal after first level.

male (HP 11/11 | AC 19 | T 11 | FF 18 | CMD 15 | F +3 | R +1 | W +0 | Init +3 | Per +0) Varisian Fighter 1

alrighty then... looks like meta-gaming resolved :)

I seem to recall there was a young wizard that needed some feting, and some drinks that needed quaffing. Oh yeah - and some adventure to be pursuing. avante!

male Varisian Human Rogue 1 | AC14 T14 F10 CMD15 | HP 9/9 | F+1 R+6 W+1 | Init+4 | Per+5+

If it comes down to it, I could dip into Cleric for a level or two, though only one of the 3 deities listed as being important to 'Dada is close enough in alignment for him to serve that deity as a Cleric.

I could alter the alignment one step (to NG or CN) and go with either of the other two, though. NG is more what I normally play.

Just thinking out loud.

+6 is a 35% chance of SUCCESS, not failure.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Does being so tall cause problems seeing things?

I edited my last post after you caught that. Thanks.

I could also dip into Cleric though last time I did a Wizard/Cleric was 2nd edition. If I did so then would be to understand something about divine magic. Would have to think about a reason why I would need to know about it. Thinking I am going to be hiding quite a bit to start.

male (HP 11/11 | AC 19 | T 11 | FF 18 | CMD 15 | F +3 | R +1 | W +0 | Init +3 | Per +0) Varisian Fighter 1

Nah - being tall is good for seeing things. If things go really poorly, I think I can apply some of my large-animal veterinary skills. I've seen things birthing cattle you would not believe! But sewing up fence-torn sheep isn't that much different than patching together an arrow wound. Why, there was this time in the Vale, we were out with the militia, and the blue-crest goblins <...> and Larry, he had a few arrows in him; and my dad had us boil up some string, he got out his fish hook, and <...>. Once the swelling went down and he could sit again, he was almost as good as new!

[ooc]OOC: I'd volunteer to dip a couple levels of ranger (for skill points and some healing) or cleric/inquisitor/oracle (for some spells and magic item use), but all of that is WIS dependent, and that's just not Chadron's gig.

Actually looking at those things, I might do a dip into Alchemist instead. That would make sence with researching. I could see using that for doing things that allowed me to work on restoring things even more safely. Probably be 1 level dip unless there seemed to be a good reason to do more.

Male Dwarf Ranger 3 | AC 21 T 13 FF 18 | HP 29/31 | F +6 R +6 W +2 | Init +3| Perc +7

As noted, Thorfinn can use CLW wands starting at 4th level, and I'll move his favored class bonus into a rank of Healing at first level.

Actually, you can use them now. They are on your list, having a caster level isn't required.

EDIT: Link just remember that wands are spell-trigger items. :)

male (HP 11/11 | AC 19 | T 11 | FF 18 | CMD 15 | F +3 | R +1 | W +0 | Init +3 | Per +0) Varisian Fighter 1

@duilure - pish and tosh on your hiding. You just stand right here behind Chadron. That's what the big broad shield is there for - is for the sheltering of folks less martial. I'm not much on the whole insight, or stitchin' up of wounds, but I'm good for standing between bad folk and wizards and mages and such.

Might have a problem with Talliree then, 'specially with goblins. ;)

@Charon - Where else would I hide? I am here for learning not for bashing heads. Moving cover means harder for things to sneak up on me.

Will see how things go but am willing to do the alchemist dip if we need. Gets me the cures and if I go Chirurgeon then my cure lights would be infused plus I would have the ability to make them. Would only be helpful at start but would be something.

Missed that, thanks; for some reason I thought I needed a caster level. That's useful to know. I'll still take a rank in Healing, though, since I don't think we can afford a CLW wand yet.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Sorry, stupid real life got in my way. First post is going up now though.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Quick Retcon, while the recruitment thread had the day being the day of the festival, I think I'm going to move it to the day before, so we can play out the whole day of the festival. Just felt like making sure everyone's on the same page.

male Varisian Human Rogue 1 | AC14 T14 F10 CMD15 | HP 9/9 | F+1 R+6 W+1 | Init+4 | Per+5+

So, Ryuko, I'm looking to have Gudada start working the crowd as a pic-pocket, not as an entertainer, this morning.

I figured I would come to the Discussion thread to ask how you want me to handle the post. I know that I know less about actually picking pockets than I do about juggling acts, so I can't write anything quite as literal truth as the performance scraps I stole from Ren Faire acts I've seen.

Given the temporary crowds and self-imposed distractions of the festival, I'm figuring that Gudada would be looking to fleece enough money to cover a week or two of normal expenses. A surprisingly good day in the expanded crowd could fund him until he finishes the mourning period for his mother and can return to the road. After all, HE doesn't know he's about to get swept up into an adventuring party!

Trying to get a feel for how you want to tell the story as opposed to how I want to assume success! C'mon, that was worth a LITTLE grin?

Male Dwarf Ranger 3 | AC 21 T 13 FF 18 | HP 29/31 | F +6 R +6 W +2 | Init +3| Perc +7

Just a reminder that I'm going to be out on the road through Sunday, so posting will be intermittent. Phones kind of suck for that sort of thing :-(.

male (HP 11/11 | AC 19 | T 11 | FF 18 | CMD 15 | F +3 | R +1 | W +0 | Init +3 | Per +0) Varisian Fighter 1

@Duilure - no worries about the alias slip. We'll all have little foibles and breaks. It's all good - we'll keep the story alive though :)

male Varisian Human Rogue 1 | AC14 T14 F10 CMD15 | HP 9/9 | F+1 R+6 W+1 | Init+4 | Per+5+

It seems like 90% of the IC posts I make I end up editing to change to the alias becuase I notice the absence of the character portrait . . .. Pretty common problem from my perspective!

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Oh me too. I mess up with the wrong alias all the time.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Apologies for my abscence, I've been having pains in my side for a few weeks now and upon visiting a doctor discovered I had appendicitis. I was in the hospital for a bit and then went into surgery. Now that I'm back home I'll be posting again. Just making sure you know what's up, post up soon.

male Varisian Human Rogue 1 | AC14 T14 F10 CMD15 | HP 9/9 | F+1 R+6 W+1 | Init+4 | Per+5+

Woah!

I had just written the delay off to it being Gen Con weekend. I'm sorry you weren-t having the fun I was assuming.

Glad to hear you got the care you need, though.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Oh I wish I was at GenCon, much cooler. Though with the meds I was on, I might have believed I was at some point.

Ouch and sorry to hear that. That is horrible. I hope you are mending well. Glad you did not get to the point of emergency. Had someone I worked with have that happen and he almost died. Just take it easy and don't push it for us.

Hope you get all the way better soon, cause that sounds like it really sucks. Gotta say, I'd pick GenCon over being in a hospital.

I hope all mends well and quickly.
