The Heavenly Discs

Game Master Elf King

In the world(s) of the Discs, a great power is, unbeknownst to the people, rising on Shkhari, the desert disc.

The king raced out of his palace through the streets of Jahat chased

by a large, skeletal, draconic beast.

The beast roared, dropping airborne birds to the ground.

The king screamed and then quickened his pace. All over the city-disc,

people fled in terror as their souls were devoured by its presence.

As he reached the city gates to the empty space beyond. “Open up,

guard. HURRY!”

As the gate opened, the king turned his head again for one last glimpse

at his imploding city.

The king started for the land bridge to Corten, but found it to have

broken. “May the goddess save my soul … ”

And he jumped. Down, down he fell, the last thing he saw before he

burned into the mini-atmosphere of the sea disc was the shrapnel of his

city falling along with his broken body.

Sounds really cool, i have an idea i'm working on ill let you know when its full worked out. on that note i have a bit of experience playing.

.Also for rogues would unchained be allowed or is it strictly base and core classes. i have an idea for a spy type character

Silver Crusade

Could you use a player with a little more experience? I know this is intended mostly for newbies, but it might run a little more smoothly with one or two experienced players who remember what it's like to be a newbie. I've been playing for almost a year, but mostly gming for my kids, so I've had to have lots of patience for beginner questions.

Liberty's Edge

I'm from the initial thread and I'm checking in. I've been reading through the rules but honestly feel very lost. I feel like the best way for me to learn is to jump right in.

I will be playing as the perpetually depressed Walter Sadsong who is a Half Elf fighter.

Would someone mind checking out my character sheet? I have a link to it on my profile. I think I calculated everything correctly (3rd level, 25 pt buy) and added the bonuses that my feats, race, and class give me.

I'm really excited for this and I love the world you have created Mandarin.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

sure, ill look at it for ya. perfect your using a myth-weavers sheet those are easier to read

Liberty's Edge

Thank you so much! I spent a long time on it but I'm sure I made mistakes. I'm also a bit dyslexic (with numbers, not so much reading) so I'm sure I made some errors. I figured the best way to learn was to just do it and try my best.

I really appreciate everyones patience

@Redelia: The more the merrier!
@Walter: Sorry that you're lost. Maybe I should slow things down and explain things.
@Anya: Thanks for helping Walter. Also, I'm trying to keep to base and core, if that's all right with you
If any new people have any questions, ask away, and they will be answered to the best ability

There are two things in Pathfinder: CMD and CMB. CMD is 10 + BAB(Base Attack Bonus) + STR modifier + DEX modifier
For ability modifiers:
10/11 - +0
12/13 - +1
14/15 - +2
16/17 - +3
18/19 - +4

Liberty's Edge

Oh okay, that makes a lot of sense now.

I'm not lost about anything in this campaign or by anything you have said. I'm just figuring out the rules and such.

Silver Crusade

Walter: I didn't look at all the details, but the two things that I noticed at a brief glance are the following:

-you only have two skill ranks total. You should get three per level, so a total of 9. There are two per level for being a fighter, and one per level because of your int modifier.

-the other issue is of strategy, not an actual error. I noticed that you seem to have only a greatsword. I assume that's the weapon you're specializing in, but for a fighter it's often good to have a backup weapon that does a different damage type, because some enemies have damage reduction against a particular damage type.

some general advice with feats advice, feats that give skill point bonuses aren't usually the best so i would ditch the athletic feat unless your dedicated to it. you can add iron will's will save to the misc section of will saves as it applies to all of them. Also cleave is actually a pretty bad feat, it's rare for enemies to be lined up adjacent.

general rule of thumb, always power attack, add in your damage bonus to the damage section for your weapon. the critical section should list the weapons critical, those can increase later game.

the cs column stands for class skills if you mark the skill by dotting the white circle it will do the calculations for class skill bonus for you.

under feats and special abilities you should list feats and your class abilities in separate columns it makes it loads easier to keep track of. Also your feat count is off you get one feat every odd level and two bonus fighter feats

I would get rid of alertness and athletic. Iron will toughness and power attack are good feats. For the most part i would go back over and factor in armor training into your armor if you havent.

Your math in general looks good, just to know what are you using for source of information?

@gm not a problem at all, are we allow to use archetypes if they fall with the books the classes appeared in?

Silver Crusade

I'm waiting to see what classes the newer players want before I start building my character, because I can fill in any major gaps that way.

Just for clarification, you said only stuff from core and base. By core I assume that you mean the core rule book. Is anything beyond that legal?

I do like the Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved for a system, if that's what you're asking, but we'd just use class and races from it.
@Anya: I don't usually allow archtypes, but yes, for this game I will allow it.
@Walter: Some advice is to have a sword for melee and a ranged weapon for far away foes

Scarab Sages

I would be interested in this. I'm not new to Pathfinder, but I'm still rather new to PbP. Not sure character-wise what I'll be throwing out as a character concept. I have a few different ideas running through my head. Needless to say, the character with this account is not the character I'm submitting. At least not in present form.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you everyone for the advice. I will start making changes. Should I add a crossbow as my backup weapon? Or maybe a shortsword?

I'm going off the Core Rule book that I bought from Paizo as a PDF.

actually i would recommond a long bow if you have the cash you can get a composite one and add your strength mod to attacks with one

Crossbow is a smart idea, but go with a light one. A heavy crossbow (without the rapid reload feat) takes a standard action to load, so you'd shoot one round, reload the next, and only contribute 50% of the time. A light crossbow reloads as a move action.

Also, if any 3PP classes (third party classes, for those who are new) appeal to any one, they can run it by me and I might allow the class
Edit: For the game, for those who read the info, most of the game will be on either Corten, the main disc, or Shkhari, the desert disc (haven't chosen which one)

you guys know about the Srd right? system reference document. pathfinder being an open game source you can find all the information for everything online. of course i don't want to get to complicated with for new comers so you can ignore me for the most part. unless you want the link in which case let me know.

ima start working on my character if anyone needs anything i'll be on and off the site for the next few hours to help anyone who needs it. feel free to pm me or leave question here. either way im on

Scarab Sages

@GM Mandarin--Do you have any issues with summoners? I know some GMs dislike having the extra character (eidolon or otherwise) adding another character to the map and the initiative order.

Not a problem just ... a tendency to find them hard to GM for
You can play one

"Flynn Elric He used to be a spy and then he lost everything and was branded a traitor."

bonus points if you know the reference, but anyway i am making a spy type character, no decision on class yet.

Scarab Sages

Excellent. I'm not 100% sure that's the direction I'll go, but it's the way I'm leaning at the moment.
In thinking about character development, are you wanting us starting from being in towns having whatever roles (blacksmith, innkeeper, etc.) and then adventure comes our way or are you envisioning us already being an adventuring party and just embarking on the next leg of our journey?

Mainly you all meet up one way (you're all adventurers, but that can just be a side job to your profession) and the rest is a surprise

Scarab Sages

Fair enough. So if I were to be an innkeeper, for example, that would make sense for your purposes? It's a background idea I have, but I didn't want to force it if it wasn't going to fit with what you wanted.

By the way, I'm thinking a background for each character and a short physical description/personality blurb

Alright. I'm going off-site for a while. To plan. "Mwa ha ha ... "

Liberty's Edge

I would like to play, I don't know what I'm going to play yet though...

Scarab Sages

Still considering character ideas. Basically leaning towards summoner, witch, or cleric/inquisitor.
Question, though: since the gods and goddesses are different than the Pathfinder pantheon, how do favored weapon and domains work?

I'ma back! Yes, Crow, you can join.
For everyone that's interested, so far we have:
- Fillion
- Anya
- Walter
- Redelia
- Creator Crow
- Alistar (from original posting thread, )
- Grease Monkey (also from original thread)
Edit for races - humans are allowed

Liberty's Edge

Thank you!

Sun: domains - law, fire, sun, strength, Favored weapon - greatsword
Moon: domains - trickery, magic, darkness, animal, Favored weapon - dagger

Excellent, thanks. Will the "other gods" have domains and favored weapons as well?

EDIT: I could suggest ideas on them if it would help and/or so it's not all your burden.

Not yet. Sorry to leave you guys again, but I'm going off site for a little longer. A tout a l'heure!

Scarab Sages

I threw some ideas together based on the identities of the deities you gave. Feel free to take them or leave them. Just thought it might help avoiding having you do all the work on your own.

Ideas:
8 Gods of Shkhari

•Isis, goddess of women, childbirth, nature, and magic (magic, plants, earth, healing), favored weapon-bola

•Hathor, cow-headed goddess of the minotaurs, love, joy, and music (charm, animals, community, good), favored weapon-battle axe

•Wadjet, snake-headed goddess of the moon (in the Church she is Lun’s assistant) (darkness, animals, chaos, destruction), favored weapon-whip

•Thoth, ibis-headed god of fengari, magic, and knowledge (magic, knowledge, nobility, law), favored weapon-longsword

•Tiamat, (fire, strength, glory, evil), favored weapon-falchion

•Anubis, jackal-headed god of guardians and law (law, death, travel, liberation), favored weapon-scythe

•Heket, (luck, healing, protection, repose), favored weapon-light mace

•Nekhbet, (nobility, death, artifice, protection), favored weapon-spiked chain

The Old One - An ancient deity. No one knows what he looks like, just his code of conduct (law, nobility, artifice, plants), favored weapon-quarterstaff

EDIT: Is channeling based on the cleric's alignment and will those be restricted by deity choice?

Hey man im looking for a group how would this work, and would you allow me to use monk, i used a cleric and a sorceress before and i would really like to try this, would it be over skype?

give it sometime brah, gm's off site. what do you need help with?

Anya_ AngelKin wrote:

Im just struggling with alot to do with the monk class.

monk is one of the harder to understand classes, first off monks don't wear armor so you need very good dexterity and wisdom at a 25 point buy thats easy

Strength for Damage

intelligence for skills

and constitution because unless your doing ranged monk you in melee

let's start there, do you have anything more specific about it?

Tsk im sitting at a 18 str a 15 con and a 17 int

Liberty's Edge

I'm thinking of playing a human Oracle of Lore... she has a 20 cha a 16 str and a 7 int and wisdom... will try diplomacy because she has a plus 12. But can anyone recommend feats? (she will mostly be melee and spell focused)

7 int wouldnt she have the brain of a high school flunkey.

Liberty's Edge

Kind of... but if i'm the party face then i won't need to be the intellectual person, someone else can come up with the ideas, i just articulate them

Pretty much yea, i wouldn't recommend dumping int like that, you would be losing skill points. the 20 cha isnt worth the lost in skill points

um as an oracle you could extra revelation feat is always nice, power attack for melee, it really depends on your weapon and all your stats

you have a positive will save so thats fine dumping wisdom but int is an important stat for the party face

@zombie Wisdom and Dex are your important stats unless you are fine with dumping your Armor class. I would recommend reevaluting your stats. remember monk has flurry of blows, you will get damage from more attacks.

hmmm do you think a monk could train his kick to be so powerful it could disengage an enemy of the same size or weight?

Liberty's Edge

ok... thank you

hmm i think there are actually feats that do something similar to that, i'm not sure on the name though. as for it being a kick that's a matter of how you describe your character attacking

Scorpion stance can trip them for one turn as a kick.

with archetypes allow, look at master of many styles monk, it will help if you want to use scorpion style and be an effective monk.

aNother question do you use the reference document or books?
