Oh, I misread that. I read it as him being 15 feet up. My mistake. The horse definitely isn't going to help with something 50 feet up, heh.
I haven't bought my own reach weapon yet because I don't like the golf bag of weapons shtick. I'm not an optimizer and I like the idea that characters aren't prepared for every situation (especially 5th level characters).
We'll have to agree to disagree that running out on a combat is a bad idea. Sometimes the best thing you can do is get out of the way of the professionals.
Just like the fight with Dakaang, this is one where the magus is going to end up soloing it. Sticking around in the hope of doing 1d8+4 (at +6 to hit) and taking 32 in exchange is not a fun trade. Sometimes, sucking up damage while contributing little (or nothing) hurts more than it helps.

I'm just trying to figure out where exactly the wind wall is. Can you step 'through' and have no problems if you are on the other side.
I'm also not sure the wayang is 50 feet up - the wind wall should only reach 5feet/level and I assume he will take care to stay behind it.
"Anya - try to get him down. Too bad he doesn't seem to have any wings. I try to blind him - so he won't cast on you."
With this words Yandu casts Glitterdust - centered around the wayang.
DC16 will or blinded
The windwall starts to glitter moments laters as all the glitter not sticking to the creature seems to be taken up by the winds.
Anya flies up 30 feet - taking out a second Tanglefoot Bag.
Ranged touch 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 1 - 4 = 21
+1 point blank, -4 assuming Anya is 30 feet away for distance. +2 for each additional 10 feet.
Miss chance if it goes through the wind wall - Anya can't yet get high enough to get over it - so depends how high up he is - 31+ needed
1d100 ⇒ 17
"Anya tries to buy some time for us. But she won't be able to last long up there unless I manage to blind him."
Edit: Just realize - taking out another tanglefoot bag from her bag is a move action and it only worked last round as Anya didn't move / just took a 5 foot step. So she will likely just have one in her hand for next round. Don't want to be seen that I save it as it seems not managing to get through the wind wall - so leave it to the GM (she has one more if need be)

It’s basically a vertical line through the center of where the Dog is/was. Good thing Ashur isn’t wearing a Kilt. You can step through and not have issues as far as I know. 50 feet up still protects him from folks on the ground, given the angle ranged weapons would need to take.
Edit: Small flying creatures can’t pass through the wall. I think Anya falls into that category.

Yes - she can't get through. She needs to get over it - that's why I asked (edit: actually wanting to know how high). Anya is 30 feet up - exatly in the same space where she is on the map. But I don't think she can throw this round even if the angle would allow it - see move actions - edit of my last post. So she might only appear as a danger and hope to stay up until her next turn - or the Glitterdust worked.
Arkwright |
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Arkwright swears loudly as he is struck by the bolt of lightning which Erin had nimbly dodged, but his spirits are raised as the creature flies up to the ceiling.
"Excellent..." he says with a wide smile. "I've been waiting for an excuse to try these..."
Carefully he clicks his shoes together, whispering "there's no place like the ceiling, there's no place like the ceiling, there's no place like the ceiling..." and suddenly rises up above the ground, flying up to move beside the flying creature.
"Hullo!" He says with a smile. "How's the weather been up here?"
Failed my save, takes 32 damage. 36 health left.
Standard Action: Activate Winged Boots
Move Action: Move next to creature up on the ceiling (not obstructing ranged attacks from floor)
Charlotte Amberdagger |
Charlotte takes a look around and sees the Wayang 50 feet up! Well, lucky for her she has something to handle that. She looks at Anya and Arkwright and yells loudly: HEY GUYS LOOKOUT!!
Standard Action: Casts Fireball on the Wayang--Uses Ranged touch attack to precisely hit him and avoid Arkwright and Anya.. DC 17 Reflex save for the Wayang equal to half damage.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 2 = 15
Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2) = 24
Ashur Glaber |
Ashur will follow Tanrov out of the room. I can't fight him, so I'm just gonna end up taking damage for no reason. Better to let the guy who spent 16k on winged boots handle it.
GM Brute Squad |
The strange little man says another incantation, and a cold arctic wind starts to blow. large hail stones, sleet and snow rain down on the patio. He then retreats a little farther to avoid the approaching Elf. (now at 70 feet high, 30 feet of the north-east corner of the patio.)
Ark, Erin, Char, Yandu, Anya take 5d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 4, 6) + 4 = 22 damage, 10 of which is Cold damage if that makes a difference.
The Patio is now difficult terrain from the ice and snow quickly gathering on it.
Yandu |
Spellcraft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
YanduSummoner tries in vain to identify what hit him.
Lifelink - taking 3 HP damage from Anya to keep her from passing out.
YanduSummoner makes a hasty retreat out of the area with the snow.
"Anya - come back - it is too dangerous there."
But the Eidolon isn't listening. It flies up another 30 feet to get closer to the wayang before throwing the tanglefoot bag.
Attack touch: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 = 15 Point Blank +1
Yandu has a total movement (double move) of 45 (Sprint). I'm not sure how much of the way is difficult terrain - but I should get out of the storm at least.
Anya is down to a single HP. Couldn't dismiss her without risking dying myself. Unfortunately Anya has fire resistance - not cold.
Arkwright |
That last icy blast having chilled him to his bones, Arkwright mutters a curse and flees away from the creature, casting a spell that causes him to waver before the creature's vision.
"That last blast nearly got me!" Arkwright coughs out, almost falling down on one knee. "It's up to you fellows!"
Cast Mirror Image- 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 images
Descend at double speed (120ft) and get the hell out of the room.
5 health left.
Charlotte Amberdagger |
Yandu |
"Anya's distraction won't last long. And she is very vulnerable where she is right now. I will best get her into safety. So don't count on her."
Tanglefoot bag: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
GM - the goo should last 2d4 rounds before becoming brittle. I did roll in the spoiler above but won't open it myself. Spells need a concentration check DC 15 + spell level. I don't think a reflex save is needed as the wyang has no wings. But the half speed might apply even to magic flight ?
Action Yandu this round: Dismiss eidolon (if still on this plane).
"Anya - you fool. I do love you - but better get out of there. I will summon you back when it is safe again."
Ashur Glaber |
"Well, I'm not hurt. Since I was useless in there, he didn't bother attacking me. I'm just a little tired, which is enough to hinder my fighting skills. But I did buy a remedy for the fatigue, so just get me up there and I'll tear him a new one."
Erin Alegra |
Erin's next action will be to cast Lesser Restoration on Ashur.
Use Magic Device 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 Success
Erin produces a wand, recites a short incantation and hits Ashur with the wand, probably a little harder than she has to.
"You should feel better now."
Ashur Glaber |
"I didn't know you could do that. I feel much better now. Thanks." Ashur starts stretching out his muscles as if to make sure he isn't sore anymore.
GM Brute Squad |
I will assume combat pauses until you have sorted out your strategy.
The Wayang points his finger at Anya, releasing a ray of force to knock her out of the sky. Concentration: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31. Anaya takes 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 damage.
That knocks her out of this Plane, yes?
Yandu |
I expected worse than 8 HP. Yandu will take the hit via life link before dismissing her. That allows him to get her back. Otherwise she would be gone for 24 hours.
Yandu seems to shake in pain as he releases Anya.
He takes out a wand - but seems to weak to use it on himself this turn.
Ashur Glaber |
"Yea, sorry about that. Watching my words isn't a strong suit of mine."Ashur laughs nervously. "I came prepared too, but I didn't use it since I couldn't fight him anyway."
Yandu |
Yandu doesn't mind if someone else uses the wand of CLW - he has use magic device - but it is not foolproof - and his standard action is used up this round. But if the group wants to go back in - the tanglefoot bag will last 2-8 rounds. 1 gone.
Yandu will just hunker down then until back in a better state. Don't want to slow down whoever is cappable doing something. But maybe waiting (several minutes) and be back with a plan is the better solution.
PS: I do have haste to add - but don't want to burn everything right now. Thinking about it - I could send in some eagles to harry him. But I doubt they will last long.
Ashur Glaber |
Ashur can use wands without failure. OOC I also vote we wait and go back in. IC, Ashur wants to go back in and rip the wayang's face off. Here's rolls for the wand charges.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
so 32 back from 5 charges.
"Yea, send Tanrov up there. He won't stand a chance between the two of us."
Ashur Glaber |
Well, doing wand charges now does speed things up. But it is definitely more efficient to get channels. So no winged boots which means we can send one person after him.
Ashur Glaber |
"I was serious. Last time I faced a caster, he hit me with two spells and I saw my maker. They don't mess around."
Ashur Glaber |
"Uh, it did stop me." Realizing he wasn't going to be believed, Ashur sighs and gives up. "Whatever."
Charlotte Amberdagger |
Sorry for the late post, worked a long shift today
Charlotte takes a look around and asks if anyone is still hurt. Seeing that some people are still got massive damage, she begins to pray."Oh great Sarenrae, please show us your grace and mercy, to grant us victory over this poor wretched soul."
Channel Pos Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) = 3
Charlotte looks at the party and it looks like not even a scratch was resolved. So she prays a little harder..
Channel Pos Energy 2: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) = 7
After realizing that Sarenrae is hinting that perhaps this is not for them, Charlotte pulls out a wand and begins to tap each injured person one by one.
Arkwright |
I'm down by 55 health. And does anyone know how high the doorway is between us and the enemy?
Arkwright cracks his fingers and starts practising waving them through the air. "Ashur, I can make you taller or smaller, and also faster. Any of those help?"
I've got Reduce Person, Enlarge Person and two Hastes ready for service.
Charlotte Amberdagger |
Starts once again with another Channel before she pulls out the bigger healing spells:
Channel Pos Energy:3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7
Charlotte sighs at the ineffectiveness of her God. It must be because we're in Tian Xia. She thinks.
Looks at Yandu and touches him:
CMW Domain Spell: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
Moves then to Arkwright
Arkwright CMW Domain Spell: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 8) + 6 = 21
Moves to Tanrov
CMW Domain Spell: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 2) + 6 = 15
Taps CLW Wand Twice on Yandu:
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Moves to Erin and taps twice more with her Wand of CLW:
Tap 1 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tap 2 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Still sees a few others beat up so she starts tapping:
Arkwright:
Tap 1 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Tap 2 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Tap 3 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Ashur:
Tap 1 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Good thing, I can always get more of these wands, and this one was brand new! Charlotte thought as she moved around and taped each wound.
Are we good to go? Charlotte looks down and realizes she has some serious frostbite. She taps the wand as well.
CLW Wand on self:
Tap 1 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Tap 2 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Tap 3 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Tap 4 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Tap 5 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Arkwright |
Arkwright gives a sigh of relief as the coldness disappears from his bones before the healing light. "Charlotte, I would very much like to kiss you passionately on the mouth. After we're done with all this, your drinks are on me for the night."
Readying his rapier, Arkwright stands in formation with the rest of his group. "Ready."
