Ugh, that water is weird! Really weird!
Was there something in the water that we could have seen/grabbed? Might as well have found out while we were in there.
Thomas Linseed |
Thomas and Midnight Lord erupts from the water with large gasps for air.
He takes off his tunic and wrings out the water as Midnight Lord shakes around, flinging water everywhere as his chains flail about, clanging in the room.
Skip Flaxseed |
Skip dusts himself off and rejoins Thomas and the others near the crypt. "Sorry about that. I'm out of anything that can blast a bunch of critters away. As long as we don't run into a bunch of centipedes or anything, I can keep going though."
Skip rocks back and forth on his heels. "So. . . should we go back to the east? There was a tunnel down there we haven't been through yet. Maybe we can find another way into that room that's blocked off by the portcullis."
Culsar Rankil |
Hey, that's a fine idea, Skip! We gotta figure out what's going on here here somehow.
Thomas Linseed |
Thomas preemptively follows Skip with Midnight Lord in tow, looking for a way to open the locked portcullis.

Thomas Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Both eastern passageways descend into water, eventually reaching a depth of just over 2 feet. At the end of the northern corridor is a swollen wooden door, barely contained by its decaying frame. Thomas wades up and realizes the door will require some brute force to open. He also hears the faint sound of frogs croaking beyond it.
Strength Check to open the door.
With the corridor crowded by a half-dozen Halffinders, Kryspi finds herself at the southern turn, which looks east into a chamber covered with a strange blue fungus on the walls, ceiling, and pillars. Its wispy strands stretch out from the wall like roots dangling in the air, twitching and swaying in an unseen breeze. Floating in the water are four decaying corpses—three large rats and one giant frog—with strange burn marks all over their bodies.
Thomas Linseed |
Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Thomas slams against the door with his shoulder, trying to break through the rotted wood.
DM Rah |
Thomas smashes the door off its hinges and the rotting wood falls into the deepening water in the room beyond. The chamber is in an advanced state of decay, with a gaping hole in the ceiling admitting a constant trickle of water. The three stone sarcophagi in this room are almost completely covered in a thick carpet of moss and fungus. On one of the sarcophagi a giant frog sits, looking at Thomas with bulbous eyes.
Inside the room the water is 3 feet deep. Small or smaller creatures must move through the water using their Swim skill. Regardless of a creature’s size, the water hinders any action requiring an Acrobatics check (increase the DC by +2).

After a little thought, I see where you're going with this. It's creative, and I like to reward that, so here we go.
Thanks. Sorry if it was a little complicated/not transparent what I was trying to attempt at first. I hope that didn't slow things down too much.
DM Rah |
Cade, no problem. That was a tricky encounter, and PBP can confuse conversations. Regarding climbing atop the sarcophagi, yes that can be done.
Skip readies a wand as Cade enters the room and climbs atop one of the sarcophagi. Picklebrew shoots a crossbow bolt, but misses. Kryspi moves into the room and finds herself in water up to her chin. Culsar sends his eidolon to attack.
The frog looks at all the tasty morsals piling into the area and flicks his tongue out at Cade and pulls him into the water.
Suddenly, two more frogs surface and spit their tongues at Picklebrew and the eidolon. Picklebrew ducks, and though the eidolon's arm is wrapped up in the sticky tongue, it manages to resist being pulled.

Skip stays back to avoid swimming but once Midnight Lord has moved out of the way, he steps up and fires a missile at the closest frog!

IIRC you can't charge in difficult terrain, so the eidolon approaches the frog and attacks!

"Get 'em, Midnight." Thomas urges as Midnight Lord bounds forth through the water, leaping over his master and over a sarcophagi.

Thomas hangs back, still injured fairly heavily, swimming out to the first sarcophagi.

No one is injured and all the frogs are in melee, so I'll put Kryspi on hold.
Thomas sends Midnight Lord in to chew on one of the frogs. Skip blasts another with magic. Cade attempts to pull free of the tongue, but it is just too darn sticky!
Picklebrew swims forward and stabs the third frog as the eidolon wades into the room and bites the last one and drags it off balance. Technically, the frog can't really go prone since the water is deep enough for it to swim.
The frogs give agitated croaks and attack. One sends a tongue out to wrap around Picklebrew's face. The one already reeling Cade in attempts to pulls him into its mouth, but Cade manages to plant his feet and avoid that fate for now. The third chomps on the eidolon's arm with a powerful bite.

Midnight Lord lashes out at the frog grappling Cade once more as Thomas draws his sling and launches a rock at the same beast, trying to free the frontman through violence instead of aid.

Kryspi, yes you can jump over people if moving from one sarcophagus to another, but it will require a DC 10 acrobatics (for a 5' standing long jump. Since you don't have a Base Attack of +1 yet, I'll assume you draw a weapon as a move action and jump as a second move action. Feel free to roll that acrobatics and an attack with this round's action.
Midnight Lord is unable to get its teeth on the frog puling at Cade, but Thomas flings a bullet that nails it square, but not quite hard enough to convince it to drop Cade.
Skip hurls another magical missile that takes down the frog on Picklebrew.
Cade tries to escape, but is still stuck fast.
Picklebrew pulls his frog's tongue right out of it's dead mouth! Technically you could have changed your action after Skip killed the one on you, but I'm assuming it would be an attack roll, which you rolled a nat 1 on.
Kryspi prepares to jump into combat.
Culsar's eidolon continues ripping into the frog it faces.
The two remaining frogs stick to their plan for Halfling hors d'oeuvre. The one on Cade opens its mouth wide and swallows him in one gulp. The one facing the eidolon chomps hard at its leg.

A giant slash across Thomas' face mends itself. "Is that all you have left Kryspi?" asks the halfling plainly as he looses another bullet at the same target.

Bites and claws slash everywhere, but somehow none of them manage to injure the frogs. Kryspi heals the group, or at least that's what it seems like she's calling upon her god to do, but the effects are barely noticeable.
Skip batters the frog trying to digest Cade, but it doesn't spit up the Halfling. However, a moment later a sharp kukri bursts from it's gut and Cade slides out, at which point the frog croaks... literally.
Picklebrew is up! One frog left.
