Dusty steps up to the last head (drawing her scimitar) and strikes with it.

Umbryl Char |
" Not really. I hesitated too long before following! I believe his cry came from the back of the house, but I'm not positive on that. We should check it out, and with haste."
As he speaks, Umbryl will draw and drink a potion of clw.
" Nice hit Dusty!"
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Dusty Fireseeker |
Dusty looks at the sandy lady. with all due respect, we do not know you from a bar of soap, so if you don't mind we'll be checking ourselves. Unless you have anything to add? Anything relevant? Like what the hunter is or what are you.
Dusty looks at sabola and umbryl. let's find him. Maybe we won't be too late. She casts a cure light wounds on umbryl clw: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 shield of faith on herself. If the sandy lady has not expanded on her statements she heads onward, on setesh's trail.
Umbryl Char |
" We definitely need to get to Setesh, but with a little caution. we don't know what an Alpha is. If it is even real."
Umbryl sighs with relief as Dusty's spell eliminates the last of his wounds. Gripping his longsword tight, he follows Sabola onward.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
" Are there any stairs leading up? I don't relish the idea of crawling through a hole..."
Though I will if I have to. Just found this group, don't want to lose them....
Umbryl Char |
" Umm. Sabola, we may have company."
Umbryl states as he turns to face the advancing creature.
His sword emitting a pale glow as he activates his arcane pool.
Spending a point to make it +1 magical for 10 rounds. Doesn't stack with MW for hit, but adds the +1 to damage...
GM Tribute |
Although the sandy creature is of powerful magic and seems not of this world, someone with exotic knowledge may know....
Although they themselves are elementals, sandmen don't typically associate with other elementals, seeing their unquestioning obedience as weak. Sandmen pride themselves as free thinkers, and when given a task by a summoner, often interpret the task as they see fit. Because of their arrogance, usually only the most confident or most desperate mages bother with sandmen. It is not uncommon for sandmen to voluntarily stay on the Material Plane, fiendishly playing with its inhabitants as they wreak silent havoc.
Sabola |
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Woot! I did something useful!
Ok, I'm not sure if that means it wants to kick our butts, or not.
"It's a sandman, some sort of protector spirit, charged with a task, could be dangerous, could be not dangerous."
Umbryl Char |
" Don't wanna take any chances. Last sandthingy we faced almost kicked our butts. It did kill the barbarian that started with this group...."
Gripping his sword in one hand, a light green mist starts to swirl around the other.
" Stay back. We're just retrieving our friend..."
He directs toward the sandman.
Dusty Fireseeker |
Dusty looks at the creature. please, we wish to see to our friend.
She looks at Sabola. Setesh is the priority turning to look at the sandy lady unless something else comes up. Go.
GM Tribute |
Sabola expounds on his knowledge of sand creatures, and informs you that sand creatures are highly resistant to nonmagical weapons that slash or pierce. As you lever Sabola up, the sand creature exudes an aura of sleep. She seems to be upset you are leaving her.

If she can, dusty firebolts the creature.

GM Tribute |
The sandy creature burrows through the earth and strikes at Dusty after she strikes the creature with a bolt of fire scorching the sand. Dusty swings at the creature first with any weapon handy.

Falchion Damage: 2d4 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 15
If Dusty did not make her save, then Sabola will wake her up instead, and instruct her to wake Umbryl.

She then attacks again

damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Umbryl Char |
Unfortunately it takes a standard action to wake someone from magical sleep... Gm are you sure she needs another save? Most critters with abilities similar to this, once you save they can't effect you again for 24 hours....
Setesh Bantling |
@Umbryl: Mostly just to show that I am still monitoring this thread - since I am fairly certain that this is a 'Sandman' - whilst its aura has the rider 'once you save, you are immune for 24 hours' the save vs sleep provoked by being hit by it does *not*...
The slashing weapons, normally dealing lethal damage, have little effect on the sand creature as she reforms. Sabola hits with such devastating force, he can't help but mar the sand creature and she cannot reform completely.
Dusty's blow as she coasted next to her, had almost no effect. You can change your action given your AoO had no effect.
Dusty spits up a little blood from the hammer blow that hits with almost full effect as a sandy right cross does massive internal damage to the priest. She did do 9 damage, but no sleep
In a shrill voice the sandlady echoes in a primal scream that bounces off the walls: "You pups think you can take me. Not gonna happen. Give it your best shot."

In fact, I don't think we can take him, but we may as well give it a try eh?
Dusty Fireseeker |
Dusty steps back five feet, dropping her scimitar and drawing her mace.
She then she casts CLW on herself
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Sabola, you hurt it. Keep striking!
Sabola |
Sabola's attacks (still with Divine Favor and the Destruction Judgement):
Falchion Hit: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 = 28 Woot!
Falchion Damage: 2d4 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 15

Falchion Crit Damage: 2d4 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 14
So 29 damage (minus whatever DR) if that crit confirms, which since a 15 hit earlier, I'm hoping it does!

And the Will save vs Sleep!
Will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 beats DC14!

"Priestess, either get Umbryll up, or heal me!"

Sabola will, as a Swift action, change his judgement to one of Protection (+1 to AC)
Umbryl Char |
In the darkness, Umbryl hears a hissing sound, as if a hundred snakes crawled around him.
Snakes! Must move away before they bite me! What's wrong? Why can't I move...
And still the hissing sound moves around him....
GM Tribute |
Then a creature of puffy air appears and speaks in a whistling, shrill common voice:
"The lords of air are happy you have killed that abomination."
In a sing voice the creature addresses Sabola:
"Your boon is to travel our domain without trodding on hers;
figure out what the boon is and it can be yours!"
As it disappears, the creature blows the sand residue away.
Sabola |
Sabola will cast CLW on himself.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
And he will turn to Dusty, "Wake Umbryl, we have a companion to save."
Without waiting to see what she does, Sabola heads after Setesh.
Dusty Fireseeker |
apologies, I had some net issues
dusty steps behind sabola, and using a scroll, casts a cure on him
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM Tribute |
Sabola crawls up into the crawlspace and continues to squeeze his way through the narrow passage.
Level 2 put on the map--colors represents 15 feet of squeezing.
Dust blankets this room. The walls, once brightly painted to depict life in ancient Wati, are now faded. A smaller room or alcove takes up the northeast section of the room; it was once closed off by a wooden door that since has rotted away, leaving only its hinges in the doorframe. A strong, cloying odor of decay pervades the room. Setesh is unconscious in the far corner.
A winged, fiendish head awaits. The head is larger than a human head, typically between 12 and 20 inches high with a 15- to 35-inch wing span.
