Victor grins.
You know me too well.
Victor heads towards the staff door, then stops and heads towards George. He speaks in a hushed voice
Hello George. You look like you're not having much fun. Come with me.
Victor heads off to the servants door.

The of the show passes without incident, and you soon find yourselves in the lamp-lit street several blocks from your hotel. A fog has descended on the city, and distant hoofbeats and the rattling of carriages echoes through the sparsely-traveled lanes.

Going back to the hotel?

Van Winkle will stroll back to the hotel enjoying the nation's capitol.

He says, "Hoadley, if I am not mistaken, Chekhov wrote this play two years ago, it is amazing how quick they can translate things nowadays. How advanced is the theater in Ottawa?"

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

There's a theater in Ottawa?
Victor tries to search through his foggy memory.
I remember pubs..... pubs..... maybe a bar? And an airport.
Replace "airport" with whatever they call it. I think they called it an airport back in the early 1900s.

Back then I think they just used farm fields. This is just around Kitty Hawk I think. Is it 1902 or 1904? Maybe it is 1906 for there to be airplanes.

George says, "I have never been that far north. I went to Montreal and Toronto on business. Vaudeville is always entertaining."

Morroway taps his cane and listens in to the conversation about theater. He'd not been to too many shows, generally being tied up managing business affairs. This little unplanned excursion was shaping up to be the strangest sort of vacation he'd been on, and perhaps just what he needed; an alien threat could be an excellent contract opportunity.

The fog thickens as you approach the hotel. Hazy globes of light illuminate the path, and you hear footsteps behind you, getting closer.

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Victor spins around.
Hello good sir/madam! How are you?

Morroway shoots Victor a shocked glance, then looks for a place to hide himself. Stealth: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 = 8

Van Winkle says, "Morroway, do you think the Dodgers will beat the Senators next week?

When Victor spins around, he soon sees Vasily Petrov emerge from the fog.

"I am well, thank you. Did you enjoy the theater? I did not see any suspicious activity at the hotel, but the streets can be dangerous in such conditions, so I sought to find you here."

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

Morroway remains silent, weighing the man's words.

George says, "Privyet, Mr. Petrov, do you have anything interesting for us?"

Vasily is caught off-guard by the informal greeting, but shakes it off. "As I said, I saw no activity in the hotel. Is it possible whoever was tailing you already got what they wanted? At any rate, I can escort you to the hotel where two of my men are still keeping watch."

As you approach the Willard, Petrov whistles into the night. After a few seconds, he whistles again, concern growing on his face.

"Stay here," he says, running off into the alley. Several seconds later he returns, his face pale. "Alan isn't at his post, and there is blood splatter on the stone. I can secure the area myself, but you look like you can handle yourselves if you want to join in."

George checks his revolver and says, "It is too bad about your men, but I am somewhat glad these things have tipped their hand."

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

"Sir, I am a consummate professional. I will gladly help you secure this building." Morroway draws his pocket pistol and checks the chamber.
"Does anyone else have a pistol?"

We haven't heard from Harry or Evelyn for a while. Unless they pipe up, I'm going to assume they're not taking part here.

Petrov quietly creeps around to the front door, and sees through the windows that the activity seems to be continuing as normal inside. Whatever the threat is, it isn't present in the lobby.

"To your chambers, then? I have a man watching your hallway; I pray he kept a sharper eye out."

I though we were waiting at the hotel for the others to come back. Harry had been talking to other people just on the street and received no new intel, so came back to the hotel to wait for the others to get back from the theatre. Is this close enough that he might see/hear the others??

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Victor takes out his first revolver and loads it.
He holds out his second one. If you don't have one, here.

Oh, sorry Harry, I thought you were with them.

The group enters the lobby of the hotel, and sees no sign of nefarious activity. In the bar, Harry is lounging with a drink and a newspaper, having spotted nothing alarming.

Petrov approaches him. "When were you last in the room?"

With some concern, he examines the drink, sniffing it and sticking his finger in to taste. "How much of this have you drank? My man guarding the rear has disappeared, so your shadows may be making a move against you."

Alarmed, Harry stutters out a response to the man.

"Umm..I'v just got back but a few minutes ago...and only just ordered this drink...I have not yet been up to the room......what's going on??"

Van Winkle says, "Yes, it seems as though somebody has demasked our private eyes and they are nowhere to be found."

Petrov leads the group up to the room, and finds no sign of his man watching the door.

"Let's move with caution. Someone may still be inside."

Morroway makes sure the hall is clear before presenting his pistol and aiming at the door. He nods to Petrov.

Van Winkle has his gun in his shooting hand (left) and the key in his right and talks as if everything is fine and then opens the lock and shoves his shoulder into the door and has his right hand on the bottom of the ivory pistol to shore up his aim as quick as possible.

Petrov throws the door open, ready for action, but no attackers are immediately visible.

The suite is spacious and luxurious, with two separate sleeping chambers behind closed doors on the left. To the right, the door to the water closet, followed by a study. The living area in the center is richly furnished.

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Well, nothin' here. Victor heads toward the first bedroom door.
Morroway, you should look to the study.

Morroway scans the open areas before trying the door to the water closet.

Morroway throws open the door to the water closet, but finds nothing worth mentioning.

Victor opens up the first bedroom door, and likewise sees nothing immediately threatening, although there are ample opportunities to hide within.

Petrov scans the living area, looking for clues.

Where do you check next?

Detective 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14 George looks for clues.

George studies the main room, and notices that the door to the study is slightly ajar, but he is quite sure they left it closed when they left.

Van Winkle ushers the group to him but quietly and then rushes into the study,

Morroway covers him as he enters, pistol leveled towards the door.

As George throws open the door to the study, a solid slab of muscle plows into him.

Brawling: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (6, 5) + 8 = 19
Effect: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4) + 7 = 14

George is tossed to the side effortlessly, slams into a wall, and slumps to the ground, unconscious.

The rest of you can react now. The assailant is making a beeline for the window.

F#&*!
Victor turns toward the assailant and runs. You're not getting anywhere..
He dives in a tackle, aiming for the legs. Brawling: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10

Harry also attempts to strike the man as he pushes his way by.

Brawling: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 1) + 5 = 8

As George is runover he says, "Thief!!!!"

while unconscious?

-Posted with Wayfinder

I should be able to say something while I am being hit, I figure I would be unconscious by being slammed into the wall. I was trying to be coy and well just got runover... Wouldn't I have gotten a brawling attempt to because I rushed into the study at full bore? I did indeed write "rush"

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

"falling rocks", shaped like a man.

As the man runs from the study, Morroway's second shot finds its home. Harry and Victor try to grab him and keep him from escaping, but they can't quite catch up to him.

Petrov also tries to stop the man from leaving...

Brawling: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15

For his trouble, he gets only a fistful of pant leg.

The assailant continues running, and dives for the window...

Brawling: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (5, 2) + 8 = 15

The glass shatters, and he disappears into the opening.

You're all up, if you want to pursue or take some shots out the window.

Victor grabs his pistol and runs to the opening. As soon as he sees the assailant, he aims and fires two shots.

Morroway rushes to the window and pushes Victor's gun aside. "Are you mad? You're going to hit a bystander, and then we'll be embroiled in more legal challenges!"
He looks to the fallen George. "Who knows first aid? That man looks unconscious."

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Victor lowers his gun. Well... crap. He throws a quick Sorry, eh! out the window. He rushes to George. Seen a few mechanical accidents in my time, gained a bit of experience with emergencies... First Aid: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 4) + 5 = 15

George comes back from being knocked out and says, "Gadzooks, what was that?"

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Someone, we couldn't catch him. We could call the police?

Victor's shots miss my a wide margin, and the attacker disappears into the dark of night.

Petrov picks himself up off the ground. "No doubt you are being targeted as you suggested. I should leave, as I'd rather the hotel detective and police not know I'm involved, but I will be in touch."

Petrov knocks some additional glass from the frame, and climbs out the window to leave and continue his investigation.

What now? The hotel staff are sure to call the police at the sound of the gunfire, and there will likely be a lot of questioning involved. Do you want to flee, or play it straight?

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

"You lot had better get clear. I'll stay with Mr Van Winkle and handle the police." Morroway offers, putting away his pistol and kneeling next to the injured George.

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Victor looks out after Petrov, amazed at his calmness.
Bloody hell, he seems very used to this. Well, shall we leave by the window or the door?
