GM Brute Squad |
No, not at all. Though, there is a Shaman who comes here for herbs sometimes. Her name is Telmayne Fire-Eyes, I think, and harkens from the Skaldwood. I have asked her why she comes here for supplies as we are not the closest market to her home. She said she senses a strong connection to her people within the market, and honors that connection by coming here. Perhaps she will know more about flying fruit and scary scarecrows.
Ashur Glaber |
"Yea, we should talk to this Shaman. With my luck, this place was built on a Shoanti burial ground... Is she back home now?"
Geography: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 Where is the Skaldwood?
GM Brute Squad |
Zeeva furrows her brow at Ashur’s comment. That would be most unfortunate.
Well, she’s not here at the moment if that’s what you’re asking. It’s not like I keep tabs on her everywhere she goes.
The Skaldwood is a small forest not far outside of Korvosa’s walls. Ashur knows where it is.
Erin Alegra |
"Close but not quite, it is, or was Shaonti sacred grounds at one point. These lands used to be theirs. You see that castle up there?"
She says, while pointing to a large castle to the north that is situated on a pyramid-like structure.
"That is Castle Korvosa. It was built on top of some ruins that supposedly hold some artifact of great power the Shaonti were charged to protect. I assume they still have a grudge against the people that threw them off their lands"
Ashur Glaber |
"Close enough. Either way, let's head to the Skaldwood. Hopefully Telmayne will know more." When everyone is set, Ashur will lead them to the small forest.
Yandu |
"You never should occupy the lands of someone else. Seldom does good cone from it. The Gnomes in Kyonin have been wiser as you. You should learn from them.
They found a city in the woods - unoccupied. But instead if usurping it they settled in the trees above. So when a thousand years later the elfs came back to claim there city there wasn't a single gnome living in it - just above.
So the elfs never had reasons to war against my kin and they still live there in peace.
Amira El-Amin |
Amira looks to the thugs, "Not turn you into the guard? That'd be against my core beliefs. I am, however, more than willing to hear the whole story while we walk to the Shoanti. So, gentlemen. Do you have any input?" Feel free to roll my SM for me. Note that if it has to do with writing, I have a +2 to the save or skill check.
Amira El-Amin |
"Fair enough. I cannot leave a transgression like this untouched, however. If I have my word that you will check in with the city guard, I will give you a writ of my authority as a member of the Abadarian clergy." She begins to write a note out. "Just give this to the guards; we can deal with this at a later date."
Amira El-Amin |
"Now I can proceed with a clear conscious. Thank you." Amira looks towards the other Pathfinders, in expectation to leave.
And as much as I'd love another 2 AC, Amira has no in-character reason to loot a crime scene.
Ashur Glaber |
Ashur will loot one. They won't need it. Consider it restitution for attacking us.
To the forest!
Bishop Shepherd |
Bishop agrees with Ashur. (Sorry in class right now, posting is tricky at best)
GM Brute Squad |
The paths through the Skaldwood are well worn. The Shoanti observe your approach warily, but direct you to their sage when asked.
Telmayne Fire-Eyes is tall and thin, though her loose clothing reveals a hard, tempered body. Her head is shaved, as is the custom among her people, and a scarlet bandanna protects her scalp from the sun. She studies you as you enter her presence with a dispassionate eye.
Ashur Glaber |
"I assume you're Telmayne Fire-Eyes? We're Pathfinders and we've just come from Korvosa." Ashur will tell her about the scarecrows, the animated produce, and the chanting.
"What do you know about the Green Market?"
GM Brute Squad |
She listens indifferently to your tale. The stories of my people speak of that place. I suppose I could tell you some of the history of my people. Maybe it would help you. Maybe it would not. The telling is free - but answer me this: After my people were driven from our lands, why should I?
And make some social skill rolls as you answer her question. :)
Ashur Glaber |
Aww, that's not fair...
"Because maybe there are restless spirits of your people that you would like to help. I was told that you felt a strong connection to your people while in the Green Market."
Diplomacy!: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (16) - 3 = 13
Erin Alegra |
Erin steps out from behind Ashur and pipes up.
"Ashur may be as blunt as the business end of a hammer when it comes to conversation, but he is right. He is also someone you want on your side if this gets messy. We have the same goals, trying to figure out what exactly is going on in the market. It only makes sense to help each other out here. If it makes you feel any more disposed to assistance, I am not really on good terms with the Chels that drove you from your land either."
Diplomacy 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Amira El-Amin |
Just finished 14-hour workday; gonna keep this one short n' sweet before we move past a diplomacy moment
"Telemane, we are here to help your people as a whole. Most presumably by honoring the deceased. You see, a strange occurance has happened; scarecrows springing to life, as well as a violent entity possessing foodstuffs. If this is some kind of curse placed upon the Chelish settlers, you know very well Zeeva is a friend to all and does not deserve this backlash. And we need to know what's behind us to move forward."
diplo: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Ashur Glaber |
You told me to make some social skill rolls, so I did. I didn't think it was a good idea either... lol
Ashur seems to almost get giddy at Erin admitting his rightness. "What they said."
Bishop Shepherd |
"My friends speak the truth. The transgression against your people occurred many lifetimes ago, yet now strange and weird things begin. Something has happened, and I fear that a mutual enemy is further taking advantage of the memories of your people."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
GM Brute Squad |
Telmayne holds up her hand to cut off the negotiations. Very well! Sit down, and listen. She waits for you to get settled before starting.
There was once a great shaman of my people who dedicated himself to unity and peace among the Shoanti quahs. The Chelish invaders executed him centuries ago, and buried his shrine to remove any memory of the peace he once preached.
This shaman was known as Galdron Greenheart, a name he adopted when he set aside the warlike ways of our quah. Stories recount that he was moved by an ancient legend that spoke of unity between the clans to lay down his weapons and provide a place of peace where all Shoanti were welcome. Without weapons, however, he could not defend himself against the Chelish invaders who saw him as a potential threat for his ability to inspire and unite our people.
His shrine was located where the Green Market now stands—likely buried beneath the current marketplace. I feel his spirit there even today, and his rage at the violence between you and your rivals is likely what motivated the strange events you described. Only by calming him can you restore balance in the Green Market. Locate his shrine and place upon it a Shoanti symbol of peace; seven broken Klar blades in the shape of a star is a traditional symbol among my people.
When you uncover his shrine, Galdron will likely lash out at you as he did before. If he manifests with fire, he has forgotten that he left the Sklar-Quah, the Sun People. He wanted to be of all quahs and none—the Green Heart. He left this world a man of peace, not a man of war, though his spirit may not remember it.
Amira El-Amin |
Any knowledges for Galdron or this "being a spirit" thing? Gonna chuck out a History and Religion, since they'd make the most sense. Also, what's the travel time between here and Korvosa?
Kn(H): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24Kn(R): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
"Many thanks. This information will be invaluable," Amira says as she stands to bow.
Bishop Shepherd |
"Your story sharing is much appreciated. I can empathize with Ser Greenheart's wishes. I long for the day when bow is replaced with ballot. When men can reason and discuss. My homeland is trying valiantly to do the same." A look of longing passes across the ranger's countenance.
"Am I correct in assuming that we must use force, ironically, to return his spirit to peace if he has forgotten?"
Yandu |
"It would be a pity if we would need to use force. Greenheart seems to have been a noble man in his time. We should try to find a way to relieve him if possible. If not ...
Anya has limited abilities to interact even on a different plane. She will try whatever I ask her to help us."
GM Brute Squad |
@ Bishop, That is not a question I can answer, for I have not spoken with his spirit.
Amira El-Amin |
Ashur Glaber |
"Sounds like a noble man. A bit misguided maybe, but his heart was in the right place. Thank you for the information."
"At least using force is something we're good at."
Kulik |
KULIK listens to Telmane's story with great interest, nodding at key points. When she finishes, he looks thoughtful and takes some time before he speaks. Thish Greenheart looked for freedom. KULIK undershtand that search well. Telmane human should know we do all we can to help Greenheart shpirit find freedom and peash.
Ashur Glaber |
"Well, hopefully this will be nothing like that. Especially since we know how to appease this spirit. Let's go." When everyone is ready, Ashur will lead them back to the city.
Amira El-Amin |
Amira gives Telmayne a final nod, and looks to the remainder of the group, awaiting to leave.
Ashur Glaber |
"Yea, this is going to be difficult. Maybe I can just out anger it and it'll give up? Nah, I didn't think so either.."
Yandu |
"Does anyone know here of some magic shops or did spot some in the Green Market that haven't been utterly destroyed. I would like to buy a scroll of Enlarge Person."
I thought I was in posession of such a scroll - seems not the case. Would make Anya at least medium sized.
Ashur Glaber |
Well, it actually won't effect her since your shared spells class feature only works on personal spells and she is an outsider, Yandu.
"Hopefully that'll help then."
Amira El-Amin |
Well, it actually won't effect her since your shared spells class feature only works on personal spells and she is an outsider, Yandu.
Note that they're two different sentences. And since Enlarge Person is on the summoner list, he's good for it.
"If he was a warrior before becoming a man of peace, he'll likely be a capable fighter. In theory, it should."
GM Brute Squad |
The Shoanti allow you to leave peacefully, and you travel back to the city. There are some various places around to buy scrolls or whatever you need. The Green Market does not sell Magic items.
It's evening now as the sun is setting.
Amira El-Amin |
After a quick glance of a map of the city, Amira speaks up. "The shrine will be buried under south entrance to the market. I'll go inform Zeeva of the current plans, then return here immediately. Any objections?"
Ashur Glaber |
Carry on then
"Not from me. But since he's a spirit, I doubt he'll fight like he did in life. But one can hope."
Bishop Shepherd |
"No objections. Do we seek to do this at night? What a horrible night to have a curse.... Morning or tonight, it matters not to me. My spells are not geared towards an undead spirit per se, though they are applicable to anything that needs killing."
