"On yer guard!" The dwarf stated tersely, stopping suddenly and motioning for his companions to do the same before training one of his cold-iron wrought arrows at a spot on the ceiling. "There be something up there..." growled Gared.

At Gared's warning, Yamyra immediately calls up a gobbet of acrid energy, hovering just above her fingertips.
Also readying an action to loose an Acid splash at anything in range that threatens.
DM Eric, on the map it looks as though the chamber we are in might connect with the hallway Yamyra was investigating before the centipede swarm attacked in the kitchen. Is that the case, or can we not tell yet?

Gared's warning draws everyone's attention to a possible threat lurking in the shadows. However, it is not until Horven holding up his everburning torch, you see the source of the threat. It looks like nothing but a crab-like monstrosity clinging tenaciously to the rough stone in the far side of the cavern, about 35 feet above the ground.

The creature moves slightly and even Gared is nearly caught off guard by the blinding speed of a thin filament which arcs out from the crab-like creature, and strikes Gared on his arm! He feels the strand stiffen and then to his surprise feels himself pulled towards it! Only his dwarven stability manages to keep him rooted in place.

Round 1: Gared, Fancy, Horven, Carmina, Ganer, Yamyra, Crab (??)

MAP

Gared, you may take your readied action in addition to your normal actions this round. However, you are currently attached to it and being pulled towards the creature. As a standard action, a creature can rip the filament free with a DC 20 Strength check. A caught creature can also attempt to escape a filament by making a DC 25 Escape Artist check.

Yamyra, your readied action does not trigger as it is out of range.

Can we attempt 'Aid Other' actions on the Strength Check? If so, how many?

Grand Lodge

Yamyra, I am going to rule against this since the filament is too narrow and slippery making it difficult for two or more characters to focus their strength at one spot for an Aid Another action.

Male Dwarf Zen Archer Monk 4//Preacher 1, HP: 46/46, AC(wMA) 21 /t 17 /f 19, F 9, R 6, W 10,(+3 vs spells/poison, +2 vs transmutation) Init +2, PasPer 22(24 stone), Darkvision 60'

Could Gared attempt to aid another on this check since it's attached to him? I'm going to resolve my resolve my readied action in the meanwhile.
Gared's mind was fast at work in trying to identify the creature when it struck him with the filament. The dwarf cried out and launched an arrow back at the thing.

That makes sense. Just wanted to be sure.

Grand Lodge

Even as Gared's arrow flies out towards it, the filament shuddering indicating the shot found its mark, he realizes this is a cave fisher, which is a highly specialized predator that dwells in caves. It uses a filament to hunt for its prey. Being a vermin, it has only basic instincts. He also realizes this particular specimen is quite a bit larger than the typical specimen. (Advanced template.)

Gared, you cannot attempt an Aid Another here as you are the one attached. Go ahead and take your action here, as I believe the others are waiting for your actions here.

Trusting his balance and companions, Gared stepped forward, planting his feet and firing another pair of arrows at the cave fisher with a determined expression on his face. "Bah, I be gettin' tired o' these damned vermin! This place could be good shelter fer a decent fishin' village if naught fer all these pests!"

Gared, you are not within 30' of the cave fisher. According to the Maptool measurement you are currently 60' away from it, taking into account the 30' elevation of the monster. I have factored this into your shots, fortunately you still hit :)

Gared's first shot flies above the cave fisher, but his second shot flies home causing the line to shudder once again. Fancy has less success, as her attempts to snap the filament prove futile.

Horven rushes up, his crossbow at the ready. Glancing at the filament he shakes his head, "Damnit, I can't cut the thing! At least I know where it is at..." He lets fly his bolt but as he fires, there is a loud 'THWUNK' followed by an expletive which causes Yamyra to look up. "Stupid goblin piece of crap! The string broke!"

Ganer wondered for a moment what he should do. He didn't suspect that he would be able to hobble over to the beast before the others killed it, but he could at least try to help Gared get that thing out of his arm.

Gared meanwhile struggles to maintain his footing but the cave fisher's pull is too strong. He finds himself yanked closer towards it. (Gared is pulled 10' closer to it.)

Carmina examines the statue further but the ranseur is carved as part of the statue and cannot be removed.

Yamyra easily determines the east passageway does link up with the corridor she and her companions explored earlier. She also notes a passage heading west which has not been explored yet.

Fancy examines the remains of the cave fisher. In addition to the spider husks and other remains of its meals, she sees something tied to one of its legs. A small leather pouch by the looks of it. Within are a dozen polished rocks, 23 tiny teeth, and a bracer.

Horven walks over and looks at the gear. After picking up the bracer and looking it over he says, "This looks like a well made bracer but they usually come in pairs. I cannot help but think I have seen this one before..."

Gared followed not far behind Fancy, bow ready and darkvision scouring the new area for danger, and moving quietly.

Grand Lodge

I am going to fast-forward this a little...

You proceed west along the corridor. The passageway ends in a large room with a pair of corridors heading north and south. This room seems to have once served as guard barracks, but the beds and other furniture here have long since crumbled into almost unrecognizable ruins.

A quick search shows this room is empty, so you continue onwards. A quick check along the northern corridor shows it leads back to the prison cell block room (and the humanoid, which still lurks in the same cell). Nothing else of interest is found, so you turn back and head down the southern corridor.

After a short distance, you see a series of stairs that descend ever deeper into the Crow...

I will pause here so as to give you guys a chance to rest if you so desire. It is about late afternoon at this point in time. As an aside, I believe this level was the most boring level of the entire dungeon...but don't worry. The next level is MUCH more interesting, he he.

"I don't know about you, but it's going to take me at least a few hours to put my notes in any manner of order, especially as all our 'not-immediately-vital' gear is still up on the other side of the Sicatite Doorway."

Gared turned to examine the halflings, particularly Horven. "Let us return to camp for the night, then. There's no use in extending our foray for the time being. We'll be better prepared in the morning, and I'll have the opportunity to tend our wounds and Horven's illness."

Actions for the night:

Gared will cast Keep watch as the night begins, and provide long term care by taking 10 on his heal check for everyone besides himself in the group as the night goes on with an additional +1 for the guidance spell, but still paying attention to his surroundings. He'll also take 10 on a profession cook check for a total of 18 +1 for the guidance cantrip, and take 10 on a heal check to treat the disease of anyone he believes to have contracted any illness after examining the party. Any saves vs disease should be made at +4. And everyone should heal 6 hit points and 2 points of ability score damage instead of 3 hit points and 1 point of ability score damage due to the benefits of long term care. This is all assuming we sleep through the night.

Nothing troubles your journey (although when you pass through the chamber where those blue-skinned creatures lair, there were a few glares pointed at your back but Carmina is able to cow them without much trouble).

Finally settling in for the evening, you all busy yourselves with various tasks. Yamyra with sketching a coherent map of the complex, Horven fixing his crossbow string (and a few extra moments working on his carvings). Gared, however, is the busiest one of you all. He putters over Horven like a mother hen fussing over her chicks. No one interrupts your rest. Still, he efforts are very helpful in helping Horven finally throw off the last vestiges of his filth fever. You all awake early in the morning ready to start the new day.

Horven is cured of his disease. Also everyone (except Fancy) will heal 6 hit points of damage for resting.

Gared examines the door thoroughly but finds no traps or any locking mechanism on it. The others watch carefully for any signs of danger but nothing accosts you.

Horven steps forward with a finger to his lips. "Let me see if anything is on the other side." He presses his ear to the door and listens intently. After a moment, he steps away from the door. "I hear...something...I am not sure...slithering on the other side." He shrugs, a confused expression on his face.
