Aerin Whispersson |
Aerin breezes in, a sussurus gliding along the floor, before slowly settling in the corner like a swirling pile of windblown leaves.
GM Bookrat |
Hello everyone!
If like you to set up your character headings similar to what Aerin and Saloom have done.
Please ensure the following are included:
Race
Class
Level
AC
HP
Saves
Passive Perception
your spell slots in the form of 2/2 (and when you cast, 1/2, etc until your out).
Spell DC
whether you have inspiration
Optional: attack bonus and damage
If you don't know how to do this, you can edit your profile and use the race and class sections in your profile.

Portals in Sigil typically require a key to open up. Otherwise there just doors. Or arches. Or gates. Or Windows. Or whatever they are that they're set in. But regardless, a key is topically required to open them.
Those of you who are familiar with Planescape, please help out with explaining the setting and how it works when you see an opportunity to explain it. I greatly appreciate the posts explaining the setting done in the recruitment thread; let's continue the tradition.
GM Bookrat |
Oh, and your characters started the game in Sigil. However you got here or why you're here is up to you, but the opening post says "as you're walking through the streets of Sigil..."
I apologize if I wasn't clear about that. You weren't sucked here out of your home or anything. You were in Sigil for some reason, and then while you were there, the pain started and guided you towards this building. If anyone wants help with that reason, I'm happy to discuss.
GM Bookrat |
Some of you have NPCs written into your backstory. If you would like me to weave one of them into the adventure, please post a description of him/her/it here, including race, age, looks (please stick to one of the avatars, as I'll be creating profiles for them), and how they relevant to your character.
Please don't just pick any old NPC, but rather one that has importance to your character in some fashion, good or bad, and has a reason to be in Sigil or on the Planes.
Soolam |
She is about 19 years old (the same as Soolam), give or take a couple years. I couldn't really find a picture that describes her properly, but she has oddly long hair for a gith, and green-brown skin. Probably high intelligence and dexterity, middling constitution, charisma, and strength, and low wisdom. I view her as being quite impulsive.
Soolam wishes to get to know her, and he almost robbed her at one point. So she probably hates him.
Tiberius Veilbreaker |
Whether you introduce them or not is up to you. I don't have many either way
Tiberius's sister:
His sister is lively and energetic. A couple years younger than Tiberius she is more than a tad bit furious that he left her with all family stuff to deal with and then disappeared with hardly a trace. She believes in honoring traditions when possible but also believes that new ideas should be welcome (that's sort or a family trait) she is attractive, at least, to dragonborn. And is fiercely independent (likely a side effect from her situation) but believes the clan and family are some of the most important things in a life. Another reason she can't understand Tiberius up and leaving. She holds most of the family wealth, which, is(or at least was) quite considerable. She has innate magic, similar to but different from her Brother.
The "Entity":
If you ever want to let this come, feel free to pick an old one at random or make up your own!

The obvious NPC for Aerin would be his long-ago departed father, and that is too painfully hackneyed and clichéd for me to even contemplate! :)
Usually I leave several open hooks for a DM in my character backgrounds but I think I failed that miserably this time.
Looks like Aerin is a lone wolf and will likely stay that way.
GM Bookrat |
That's fair. I didn't want to force you to go in case you wanted to explore the building more. But we can move forward.
I won't be around much today (have a home game to GM on Saturdays) and a kids bday party to go to (which I'm at now). I'll try to post either before my game or tomorrow. Maybe give others some more time to chip in.
Oh, and by the way, if you guys feel that you don't have anything to add and are waiting on me before you post, go ahead and let me know that you're ready to move forward here in the discussion so I know you're waiting on me.

Sorry, was traveling for work all day today, will try to get a game post out tomorrow

Rules Interpretation Question re how thunderwave works. I see different answers on rpgnet, reddit, et al, whether the area of effect must be centered on the caster or can essentially be placed "in front" of the caster if desired.
It seems like the majority opinion is the latter (making it notable more useful), including this sage advice http://www.sageadvice.eu/2015/04/29/thunderwave/
but would like the GM's official ruling.
GM Bookrat |
The point of origin starts from you. The spell is not centered on you.
With cone effects, the PoO is you. The square in front of you is affected, then the next two, then the last three.
The way I've been running it in my home game is that the somatic component is you clapping your hands together, and the PoO is your extended arms.
As with all Cone PoO spells, the caster decides if the PoO is part of the area of effect.

Aerin - I could have sworm that Thunderwave was a cone, not a cube. I was wrong. Sorry about that. Anyways, I agree with Sage Advice on that one. It's actually kind of hard to interpret the rules otherwise, as page 204 under "Cube" specifically states that the point of origin for cubes is somewhere on the face of the cube.
Everyone else- I will be doing audits of character sheets over the next week.
You should also include your background's feature on your character sheet.

Got it, thanks. I suspect this is a case of where the spell description was written assuming the spell should be centered on the caster (otherwise why would it be a cube? Especially for what is essentially a sonic effect), but then people realized the use of the spell would be extremely niche so they "officially interpreted" it in way to make it more useful.
Well, Aerin isn't going to start blasting people out of the way, not yet in any case.

Perhaps it is just me, but I am having a hard time picturing where everyone is relative not only to each other, but to the house the man went into. Can we get a description of the relative locations?
Soolam |
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to be gone about a week. Soolam will follow everyone else, and mind spear any hostiles. If anyone comes close, he will switch his discipline to psionic weapon (on his dagger), and attack with that.
