Ben!! Good to see you again.
I have decided to never quit this game, because Vallen would suffer a horrible death just like Garrak and Ben...
If it's any consolation your death allow for some fantastic roleplaying and bonding with the halfling community.
Ben Sandlock |
I am not coming back to play so it is okay.
I was involved in too many games and my wife was getting upset about how much time it was taking. That is why I dropped everything. Things have calmed down now so I am thinking about starting a new Skull and Shackles game, But i have to keep my RPing limited. I don't think I can get away with doing more than running a game and maybe playing in one. Sometimes I miss being single.
Vallen Silverclasp |
One game never hurt anyone, and I think you'll make it a good one.
Pop in now and then and say hello Ben!
Hmmm that orgre must have had a water breathing spell put on it.... someone doesn't like us...
Cueta Guiding Star |
Hiya, Ben - nice to hear from you! I'm glad that things have calmed down for you as well, and that you are getting back into the pbp scene here as well.
@Nerk, I was wondering if you were/are going in that direction. It could be an interesting path to go down, but I'm not sure that all the PCs would choose the correct side (Cueta's of course!). I'd really hate to have to kill Vallen 'cause the dwarf seems to for some reason like, or at least respect, the Thayers (I kid of course - I respect them as well).
@Vallen - or a ship, long and low, and capable of handling storms (like a dwarven longship?) dropped them off in the dark. Probably not, but perhaps Paaie could tell us if she thought their ships could travel safely in a storm?
Vallen Silverclasp |
Whomever sent these creatures would have to really hate us to go out of their way to sail a ship in that much rain.
Time will teeellllll....
Cueta Guiding Star |
I was thinking more that the ship was already around. Isn't there a longship searching for Tomag, Zoriya, et all in the nearby vicinity?

Planning on spoilering the rest of Sorala's conversation with the hobs and pushing on to the next day. Looks like conversations are settling down.
Also, please remind me if I've let something slip through my fingers. This is all by the seat of my pants, and I'm something of an airhead.
Vallen Silverclasp |
Sounds good to me!
The foragers returned with 82 food today, correct? We also brought 60 food back from giving the weapons to the hobs.
Once we have the "cultural exchange" behind us, we can get some work done for a few days. I think we can sustain on half-rations with foragers and fishing until some of our gardens are running, not that people are going to be happy about it.

12 pcs, a plethora of NPCs, complicated house rules and a sandbox setting - I'd say you're doing swimmingly!

I think they return tomorrow (the day after the fight with the ogre)? Then we've always got a group in transit at that point while the other 5 are foraging, iirc.

Okay, I have it marked on our spreadsheet the foragers returned today (day of ogre attack), but I could be wrong.

More than likely I am wrong. You've been updating so I think we should go with what you have. Like Nerk, I am also an airhead - in case you haven't put that together yet :)
DM Nerk |
I always wondered why you didn't pick a blonde avatar....
I think the idea of knocking it back to 5 groups foraging was so that we could just assume food reaches Newspring without thinking about it. Now you guys are thinking about it and RUINING EVERYTHING! THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!!
Sorry, spent a little too much time with the kids yesterday. But, my point stands. The food is gathered and brought back to Newspring "automatically" in mechanical terms. In the fiction, the 6th group of foragers is bringing it back.
Vallen Silverclasp |
Ooooh right I remember now. This is what I get for thinking! Dammit brain!
I don't think it's possible to spend too much time with the kids!
Vallen Silverclasp |
I'm going to be out the rest of today and tomorrow morning.
Gair Hearthseeker |
Ugh, sorry guys, I've been absolutely hammered with work this week. Still, i should have let you know earlier. Sorry again for the lack of communication.
I'll have some proper posts up later today.
DM Nerk |
No problem, Gair ... I have a feeling that once we get Blaidd and his hosta... goodwill ambassadors on their way, there is going to be a few days of "relaxing" in game. Training, building, making $, etc. Since we've been in the new world less than a month, I'm inclined to let that happen unmolested by random (and GM imposed) encounters. Maybe we can work through a week or two in a couple of days, before we get the next thing going.
This will also allow 2pcs to get some gear going. I'm sure Vada and Paaie would like something. Gaross and Horn'Tos have sort of fallen off my radar, but they're available to forge weapons and armor.
Cueta Guiding Star |
Alright everyone - I'm out till probably tomorrow evening. Cheers!
Vallen Silverclasp |
Nerk, is the iron chain/collar worth any smithing supplies?
Cueta Guiding Star |
Hey Nerk, can Cueta use craft (carpentry) to make her sister some wooden armor, so she doesn't get her crazy arse killed? Or is that too out of bounds for the skill? By the description, it is fire-treated plates of wood strung over vital areas. Doesn't seem too complicated.
Vallen Silverclasp |
Woo 50gp worth of crafting materials guys!! Thanks Nerk!
Now I shall turn them into weapons and armor...
Kal'tos, if you'd prefer to do other things with Kal'tos that should make us set on smithing supplies for a while. Up to you.
Gair- when you get some time (after your bow is finished, probably) you should make some cold iron arrows for us to test on the demon-birds. If we figure out the cold iron is effective I bet the hobs would LOVE some special arrows.

The next day I will start generating money for labour using my awesome survival.

Nerk, another question - would a team of fishermen be sailors or craftsmen?
SAILORS
Earnings gp, Goods, or Labor +2
Create 1 Goods, 1 Influence, 2 Labor (90 gp); Time 0 days
Size 5 people
Upgrades From Laborers
Sailors know how to sail a ship, navigate while at sea, and defend the vessel against pirates and other hostile boarders. A typical sailor is a 2nd-level expert (NPC Codex 260) with 2 ranks each in Acrobatics, Climb, Perception, Profession (sailor), Survival, and Swim.
CRAFTSPEOPLE
Earnings gp, Goods, or Labor +4
Create 3 Goods, 2 Influence, 4 Labor (200 gp); Time 2 days
Size 3 people
Craftspeople are trained in a particular Craft or Profession skill and make a living using that skill. Examples of this team are alchemists, carpenters, leatherworkers, masons, and smiths. A typical carpenter is a 4th-level expert (Pathfinder RPG NPC Codex 261) with 4 ranks each in Climb, Craft (carpentry), Diplomacy, and Knowledge (engineering and local). Craftspeople in other fields have a similar skill arrangement.
Thanks!

Craftspeople.
Hopefully, that will be exciting because fewer people/better results, rather than sad because bigger initial investment. I will say that, despite their heavy penalties, Walton and Sai would bring in 6 food/day if they took 10, which might be an easier way for me to handle it. A team would bring in 7.Vallen Silverclasp |
Oh wow. We definitely need to make some fisherpeople teams, that is more effective than a farm and cheaper/faster! Of course they're harvesting a resource they can exhaust, like the foragers, so we can't have a bunch of them. But bringing in 7 food a day now would be HUGE.
I vote we work towards constructing a least two fisherpeople teams.
Would you say one fisherpeople team per longboat, Nerk?
Cueta Guiding Star |
What a time for Cueta to have an existential crisis and to roll really well on a dip check, eh?
Does no one but Ingwe, Melilla and Cueta speak Polyglot?
Cueta really doesn't have much fight in her right now - thanks, Vallen ;) - though I suppose she can summon it if need be. She doesn't much care for being insulted after all.
Vallen Silverclasp |
Indeed! I'm interested to see how this turns out. I want to see Zoriya swoop in with a natural 20 on a diplo roll, both making Ingwe look like a fool and convincing Melilla to leave.
Cueta Guiding Star |
Oh yeah, no census - I was curious about us PCs really. We really need a super-secret language that no one else can hack so we can talk about all these needy Newspringers in front of them. How about everyone take a level of druid?
Kidding.
Cueta's going to hold off on saying anything to see if anyone else wants to chime in.

I was gazing wistfully at the sailors, thinking the skills may translate enough to make a ruling in that way, but I think I like your optimistic take on it, Nerk. And even more now that Vallen points out that fishersentients can be constructed ASAP.
Besides the exhaustible resource thing, there's another issue with them though: there are lots of seafaring bad guys in our neighborhood. I think that relatively soon we should 1) hexplore some more so that our foragers can (hopefully) start rotating between Newspring, 15C and 14E. Then work our way south around Lillend Bay and hopefully find safe places in other hexes for our fishers to go to when the Newspring hex is tapped out.
Cueta Guiding Star |
Also, Gair and Zoriya, haven't heard from either of you in awhile. Everything OK?
Vallen Silverclasp |
I have one of these new fangled smartphones now! This will allow me to obsessively check for posts from anywhere yay!
Hope Gair and Zoriya are all right, they haven't even checked in lately.
Cueta Guiding Star |
That's great - I hope they are both back with us. Good players and nice people.
Cueta Guiding Star |
Vallen, I got mine like three months ago and it's super neat.
I don't think I can go back to a dumb phone. I rarely use mine to make a phone call anymore, and yet I use it all the time. And most of the time I'm not even wasting time!
Vallen Silverclasp |
Oh no. Gwenci is more powerful than we possibly imagined!
Now to figure out what he's taking about.
Vallen Silverclasp |
I think Blaidd is telling him to say he agrees that Melilla should stay and they want Gil and Lady Kralish?
Thoughts?
I agree Tomag lol.
Cueta Guiding Star |
Take that, English!
That's great! "Toddler-level communication" linguistics achievement unlocked!
I think Vallen and Tomag are correct. Sorala's going to make sure...
Tomag |
Did I not mention it, Nerk? Tomag's going to take Intimidating Presence and assorted other Intimidate-focused combat stuff eventually. The smile is just him trying not to terrify goddamn everybody at all times.
