Might be unavailable for most of today, not sure about reception. Gair is generally in favour of the plan so far. He would like to try and lure some of these black birds in on the way home though.

male Dwarf barbarian 3

Perhaps we should let the other Hobgoblin chose what he wants to be trained in?

That would probably work for the best. Though I just realized I'm the only one who can speak to Hobmund Thablin and will have to put up with him. Thanks guys :p

Nah, if he speaks old world goblin Sorala and a couple others should be able to talk to him. We should try to get him to work with Ceuta and Sorala to make us a more accurate map of the surrounding area.

Love the name though :P

It kind of scares me he picked up on old world goblin, honestly. I was also considering having him work with Sorala for something, but we'll see what he wants to do other than get into a dispute with Edmund when he finally learns common. Worst case scenario... they become friends.

Hopefully Sharp-eyes is a more well-adjusted individual and I don't have to make up a condescending name for them.

male Dwarf barbarian 3

One thing we are not doing is training him to become a Wizard. Super villain creation is not on Kal'Tos' bucket list.

What, Hobmund Thablin is great! I love him already. (Although to be fair, I also love Edmund.) We should definitely train him as a wizard or an alchemist--anything with explosions, really.

And technically Paaie can talk to him too...oh, dear.

I think so, Kal'Tos.

If he wants to work on maps, that would be cool - we need to have some reliable way for our people to get around, and accurate maps will be key.

Regarding the catching of goats, what if it is done with a survival check? Something like one day of work nets a survival roll DC 15 to capture one goat, with an additional goat per two over 15?

I've got a very busy weekend in front of me and may not be around much (though I'll try to get in here at least once a day). If I'm holding anything up, please bot Cueta and Sorala.

Indubitably Never 3d6

Finding the goats will be the first thing. Presumably tracking, unless you can wheedle their whereabouts out of the locals. After that, I'm going to say it's just like using skills to generate gp on your downtime. Make an appropriate roll (survival works) and each gp you raise = 1 goat. The rate of return is a bit lower, but you're depriving me of the opportunity of making you play out the capture of (and return through a dozen or more miles of wilderness with) a largish herd of wild goats.

Maybe we should just play it out....

Male Human Warrior 1 / Ranger 2 | HP 23 / 26 | AC 15; Touch 12; Flat Footed 13 | CMD 18 | Fort +6; Ref +5; Will +1 | Init +2 | Perception +6

Sorry for the delay guys, work was brutal yesterday...

Ok, the goats sound feasible, unless we want to go the shepherd simulator route :P

Though I am curious, from a rules perspective, what happens if we were to just build an animal pen? Would it be useless until we did capture some goats or other animals?

Indubitably Never 3d6

Building an animal pen would mean that someone went out and found animals, built a pen, etc. Probably not goats, but something more suitable to the forest/coast environs. Maybe even fish pens.

Male Human Warrior 1 / Ranger 2 | HP 23 / 26 | AC 15; Touch 12; Flat Footed 13 | CMD 18 | Fort +6; Ref +5; Will +1 | Init +2 | Perception +6

Hm. Ok awesome. How about boars? Does it have to be something from the Newspring hex specifically? The joy of animal pens is that you can bring in animals from all over.

So if we had a list of what animals we have seen around, we could set out to organise a group to go catch a number of them? In the form of raising the resources required to build an animal pen?

How would something like my wild empathy ability play into this? Would I be able to make checks to help us collect less traditional animals?

On a related note, I'm hoping to find some animals suitable to train as mounts. Would we play that out in game or would we just build an animal pen and state that it's purpose will be to raise mounts?

Here's what I propose-

Return to Newspring. We have finally dealt with the most immediate threats and with the hex hex bringing in food we can composure ourselves before moving out to the east to explore THAT hex to send the foragers to next.

We stay in Newspring for a bit. Kal'tos and whomever wants to help him starts generating some supplies for myself and Horn'tos using profession: miner from the iron deposit. Gair, we need to generate a buffer so that the Forge is adding to our supplies and we're not just eating up the metalworking supplies every day. It will only be generating 2.0gp a day, which is not enough to begin crafting a glaive (2.6gp) or a cold iron glaive (5.2gp). So we need a little bit extra to get us going at first- I wholly support Kal'tos gathering some materials for us. It's going to be another 3 days before the forge is complete, so there is plenty of time.

The rest of us work on crafting and generating income for a little bit before we explore the next hex to the west.

Istiel needs three days to train with Gair to become a Ranger, as well. Though I'm still tempted to make her a fighter.... hmmmm. Just hard to give up those skill points...

male Dwarf barbarian 3

That should work for me.

Would it simply be a profession miner check?

Also for people bringing food back, can we task one of our foraging groups to make the trip whenever they have a medium load? That way we can rotate people back to Newspring occasionally.

LG Male Dwarf Cleric (Iron Priest) 5 | HP: 28/28| AC: 19 (12 Tch, 17 Ff) | CMB: +3, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +3, W: +7| Init: +2 | Perc: +3, SM: +3 | Speed 20ft | ACP: -3| Channel: 3/3 |Active conditions: Comprehend Langauges (50 min), Divine Favor (+1atk/dam, 1 min), Protection from Evil (5 min)

It will probably work how we've been doing it Kal'tos- You make a profession miner check (or take 10) and divide the result by 10. The number you get is the amount in gp of "materials" we can use for crafting metal things.

Wow! Loving the philosophy discussion. Sorry for the delay, I felt like my reply is likely to be too long for my phone.

It continues to amuse me that Kal'Tos has the best survival of all of us. With Ceuta somewhat tied up at the moment, I imagine Gair is in charge of navigation? I'll make a roll with my post later.

Well he was a miner for a while then spent a decade wandering between small dwarven communities helping them set up trade agreements to sell their goods and materials and otherwise helping them with business arrangements.

Istiel - At this point, there is no named NPC fighter in Newspring. There will be soon. You're going to hate me.

Everyone else, if you want to train up your 2PCs into a PC class (recommended) and there is nobody around to train them, let me know. Through the whims of fate, it may turn out that some of your companions have hitherto unexpected abilities.

On that note, I'm still interested in training Hassan as a cavalier. Edmund would be the person to talk to about that, right Nerk? I seems kind of weird to be training as cavaliers before we have any mounts though.

Has anyone in Newspring reported seeing an animals that might be suitable as mounts? On that note, how flexible are you on the type of mount we might use? RAW, we need to find either horses or camels...

Sigh choices.

The hobgoblins mentioned the bugbears live on flats to the east. There might be wild horses there, we'll have to ask.
