My first PFS game online, please hint me, if I'm doing something wrong.
I've played several PFS games during conventions and has GMed some at my place. Still pretty new to most of the stuff.
Sothy Samnang |
have you at least done a pbp before? I imagine its not much different, just with pfs rules.
Yes, I have played by post before, no worries. But every DM is different.
Therbin Warrak |
This is my first PbP. I get to play occasionally locally but I thought this might let me start another character. Please let me know if I need to do something differently. I'm looking forward to the adventure.

Great thanks for link, Nadra! I've read both threads (linked and predecessor) and it has tons of good stuff there.

@DM, how I can rescribe spells from scrolls in to my formula book in Pathfinder Society? should I roll my Spellcraft checks? Scroll do not expire in case of failure, so can I retry several times if time allows? Can I make this during our travel?
Therbin Warrak |
I've updated somethings on my online character sheet (url). Wife has a long list of things for me to do this weekend so I may not be able to update my profile here until Monday.

@DM, how I can rescribe spells from scrolls in to my formula book in Pathfinder Society? should I roll my Spellcraft checks? Scroll do not expire in case of failure, so can I retry several times if time allows? Can I make this during our travel?
This is what I found in the rules:
"An alchemist can also add formulae to his book just like a wizard adds spells to his spellbook, using the same costs, pages, and time requirements. An alchemist can study a wizard's spellbook to learn any formula that is equivalent to a spell the spellbook contains. A wizard, however, cannot learn spells from a formula book. An alchemist does not need to decipher arcane writings before copying them."
and
"Spells copied from another's Spellbook or a Scroll: A wizard can also add a spell to his book whenever he encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard's spellbook. No matter what the spell's source, the wizard must first decipher the magical writing (see Arcane Magical Writings). Next, he must spend 1 hour studying the spell. At the end of the hour, he must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell's level). A wizard who has specialized in a school of spells gains a +2 bonus on the Spellcraft check if the new spell is from his specialty school. If the check succeeds, the wizard understands the spell and can copy it into his spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook). The process leaves a spellbook that was copied from unharmed, but a spell successfully copied from a magic scroll disappears from the parchment."
In PFS it's not different from the normal rules. You can copy the spells to your formula book during your travel.

Sorry for a delay, because of vacation my Internet pattern changed drastically.
I delayed party a bit, but I will look over threads in future more often, to avoid that.
Nadra |
I dunno about you guys but I got a nice +8 to diplomacy so I can try to talk our way through this... I just need some pointers in exactly what to say. Judging from what happened to the others, I think mentioning we're pathfinders is a bad idea. So should I just say we're humble explorers (which we technically are), roll the dice and hope for the best? Should I add anything? Lets talk it over before I, or anyone else, rolls
Therbin Warrak |
Can someone tell me how to connect an alias to a pfs character. I created the Therbin alias before creating the pfs character and don't see how to connect them. Do I have to create another alias? If so, can I delete the old one?
Nadra |
so the new blog post has be wondering, when do we record the adventure? Now or when we finish. I'd hate for this adventure to run long and I technically can no longer use Nadra anymore since she's an aasimar and the race is getting retired.
GM Baerlie |
Usually when we finish this adventure. I have to read the blog post first, maybe I can make an exception.
Update: I would say if we finish this game before August 13, you get the chronicle as usual. If the game takes longer to finish, I will post it on August 13 and send the chronicles before that. My experience is, that if players are posting regularly, PFS scenarios finish within a month.
Sothy Samnang |
As I tend to have role play heavy home games (16+ hours for scenario, 28+ for module, splitter in sessions, that span month or more), I decided to put a date of first game session on my chronicles, so that other players not be affected by specific events in community while they are playing. Last year, I had a player, who was Shadow Lodge member during faction retirement. He was greatly upset by this turn, but I said that he can keep playing till end of adventure, when he need to choose new faction.
Sothy Samnang |
2Nadra, sorry :( I missed your first discussion post about you deal all the negitations :( I started the "humble travelers" line, so you can emphasize and expand around. Hopefully, I won't bring team to trouble with my introduction.
Me is http://facebook.com/Tiaburn and feel free to add me and message in case of emergency.
GM Baerlie |
Ok, I make an exception. I will fill out the reports today or tomorrow with today's date and send you the chronicles. But please finish this adventure. Usually it's not allowed to play two campaigns at the same time with a character, so playing PBP and attending the public game on August 10th would not be legal (but should be when you have your chronicle).
All I need for that is your PFS #, names and email adress to complete the chronicles.
For everybody:
Please fill out this form.
Sothy Samnang |
@Nadra, verify this with your Venture Officers, because I don't believe this is legal. According to "Guide to PFS" the Character locked in multi-part adventure like Module/Adventure Path cannot be played before end of that adventure. I haven't found any reference mentioning that Online game is considered multi-part adventure.
@GM, thanks for confirming my point of view about two games and going forward.
Nadra |
Thanks a lot for this, I had no idea about all these rules and stuff... though I'm not surprised to be honest. Guess I'm just overly paranoid wanting to be sure i can keep Nadra and not knowing how long a pbp society game takes. I have two other pbp (but those are APs) that have slowed to a death crawl.
Nadra |
Well i know i post a lot, mainly because my current job's pretty lax about me being online. That's going to change however cause i literally just got a call saying i got a full-time position I had interviewed for last week. Really excited but my posting will probably slow once I start.
Therbin Warrak |
Congrats on the new job, Nadra. We'll try to keep up the pace in order to finish in time. After reading the blog post, I'm considering trying to get an Aasimar and a tiefling grandfathered too.
Nadra |
Thanks. Still don't know much about anything though i just got a couple dates for paperwork and drug tests.
Anyway, if Nadra gets in fine then I may build a Tiefling instead for the public game. Dunno what I'd play. Maybe a bloodrager or something.
Therbin Warrak |
I was thinking of a paly like yours for the Aasimar although could also build an awesome healbot cleric but not sure how much fun that would be. For the tiefling, I'm thinking arcane of some sort - wiz, sorc, arcanist.
Re: merchant leader - I know Nadra has a high chr and diplo but also might be against her character. Billin has a 19 chr but dont think he has bluff or diplo. I was thinking he could use his limp as a selling point too.
Nadra |
Anglekin is perfect for a pali, +2 str and cha. I love their no penalty thing and completely understand why they're a fairly OP race for PFS along with tieflings. I like more melee classes though so i'd probably get a pitborn heritage for my tiefling.
with the game, i see your point and am trying to see a way around it. Billin could always make it untrained, through which may be our best case scenario.
Nadra |
bla... i'll post it here since I'm not 100% how the pali code likes suggesting a lie even though I'm not lying. Billin, what if you wear armor as a precaution since you had gotten hurt in the past. Like you used to not wear armor, then you got raided or something and got the bum leg, now you wear armor to help prevent something like that from happening again. Someone else would just have to suggest it to him...
Therbin Warrak |
That sounds like a reasonable story. I think you should try not to talk Nadra, then I don't think you would be lying.
Nadra |
I like reading about the epic divine stuff, but the rest is meh. I don't think GM will ring your neck if you just "off screen" it as in "Billin tells them about their caravan and their journey here, though when it comes to his end goals, he plays the role of a tight lipped merchant as well as he can" or whatever and then roll the bluff.
Therbin Warrak |
From page 2 of gameplay posts when we were trying to come up with idea:
You could be merchants from Kerse who want to deliver goods to Isarn. Let's say you transport finest clothes and shoes. You don't want to sell something at the Gray Revelation Inn, you are looking for a way station to stop on your trip to Isarn. Passad says
I agree with Nadra, I don't know that we need to go into greater detail. Baerlie would have to let us know if it is needed.
Therbin Warrak |
re: Billin's last gameplay post - as a guard, my character should probably not comment on the merchant's plans. Maybe one of his "assistants" - Sothy or Caledonesis - could remind him that he is looking to set up a trade route between Kerse and Isarn and wants to find a way station where both he and his goods would be safe. Hopefully, this would give us reason to do a more thorough search of the grounds, including a better look at the stable.
Therbin Warrak |
I obviously over-reacted but I envisioned the prisoners being taken out the locked door near the exit. My character couldn't see the cell-lined room from his position so he went to block the exit.

FYI, as a warpriest, I have the heal skill (which I don't think will help with the prisoners) and 2 CLW. I can't channel energy at lvl 1.

Done but make sure I filled out correctly. Wasn't sure if you wanted 2 or pfs#-2 for character number.
