Hi everyone!
If you can let everyone know what race/character class you would like/are planning to play for Wrath of the Righteous, I'd appreciate it.
Very Broad Creation Rules (which are unlikely to change but may be added to):
- 25-pt build
- starting level: 1
- Any core race or any of the demi-humans (tiefling, aasimar, etc) - Other races may be ok'd
- Alignment: One of the big themes is the redemption of evil. As such I may allow an evil PC but only if the player has the intention of his character working towards redemption. In general, good-aligned or at least good-leaning would be preferred.
- Two traits which you can choose freely from any non-AP source. There are Wrath of the Righteous campaign traits, but I'd like to suggest them based on your characters background. The campaign trait would be in addition to the two traits you choose.
- Wrath starts in a city called Kenabres on the border between Mendev and the Worldwound. Your character does not have to be from this region, but I would like to figure out what drew you to such a dangerous and crusade-filled city.
- Beyond your background, I'd like to know if you have any goals for your character. These can be either goals your character has, or goals the player has for the character that the character knows nothing about.
- Hit Points - max at first level and average on following
- starting wealth = average for your class
Allowed sources - any Pathfinder source published by Paizo (if there is a mechanic that you like but dislike the lore attached, please let me know, and I'll see if there is another way to make it work). I am very happy to look at any non-Paizo Pathfinder material that you are interested in. Since we will be going Mythic, I would recommend looking at Legendary Games expansion on mythic. (Sadly I only have a few things since they haven't released the pdfs from the KS.)

So excited about this!
Character's race is Demonspawn Tiefling, Class is Monk (with the Tetori, Hungry Ghost, and Qinggong archetypes, with the one difficulty in that resolved as discussed with GM.) To make that a little less bizarre-sounding, this character will be a monk of a type that primarily specializes in grappling.
Chavamana, I'll need to make a couple of revisions to the character based on the rules you posted -- I'll let you know when I've done this.
Do the characters know each other before the game starts, will we be meeting for the first time in game, or is that something we can decide among ourselves on a case-by-base basis?

I would like to leave that up to you guys. I am of course happy to provide suggestions as to where background may have intersected if someone asks.

OK, character has been rejiggered. Let me know if there are any questions, concerns, necessary changes, etc.
I'm guessing Drea probably wouldn't know anyone from before, which would make sense anyway, but GM, please let me know if someone else's background coincidentally intersects with mine.
1) Bring demons to the side of good. This is a big deal for her, and even convincing, helping to convince, or simply witnessing a change of heart in Just One Demon would be a major moment for her.
2) Find love. Drea is very lonely and a bit of a romantic. This could be either with a PC or NPC, if it happens. Like most of my characters, she is bisexual, although I suspect Drea leans somewhat more towards women. I'm not sure what her "types" are yet, although I have some vague suspicions. I can try to put more thought into that if it would be useful to you.
3) Deal with the kissing thing. Loosely connected with but not identical to (2), Drea would like to figure out her "Rogue-from-the-X-Men" problem with kissing. Possibly could be handled through finding a love interest who is immune, learning to somehow suppress the effect temporarily, just dealing with it and learning to be content with holding hands etc., or some other thing I haven't thought of at all. (If it's a "learn to suppress" thing, as a player I'd prefer it neither be early nor easy.)
4) Protect Golarion from the Worldwound. Probably goes without saying, but hey, thought I'd put it in there.
Out-of-character goals:
5) Learn about her past. This is not exactly in-character because Drea is a bit afraid of learning about her past, but as a player I might be interested in her finding out things / meeting people who knew her from before her memory loss. She wouldn't shy away from it if presented, but she probably won't be actively seeking it out, which is why I'm putting down as a player goal.
So, just putting my thoughts on her in coherent form. You may already have gleaned some or all of this from her background. All of this comes with an "unless you prefer otherwise to better fit into the campaign" assumed.
LIFE BEFORE THE RITUAL:
Her memory of her life before the ritual is spotty and indistinct at best. My assumption was that she lived in the Abyss. Her Knowledge Planes skill, which will grow over the course of the campaign, mostly comes from flashes of memory regarding where she lived, the beings she lived with / dealt with / fought against (the last two probably including non-Abyssal creatures as well), and possibly travels to other planes.
She does not at present remember any particular friends, enemies, acquaintances, lovers, etc., from before. It is at the discretion of the GM whether she will meet any during the campaign.
Exactly what she was like before the ritual is also something of an unknown. At some point in her past she was certainly doing Evil Succubus things. There are, however, probably two main possibilities:
1) She was your basic Evil Succubus right up until the ritual. The memory loss / treatment by Elena set her on a different path.
2) She was already reformed or on her way to reforming when the ritual occurred. Elena helped her at least in part because she intuited this.
Which is more likely may be connected to what the ritual was, why (or if) she was selected for it, and why (or if) it went wrong.
THE RITUAL:
She does not know what the ritual was for, and whether it went horribly wrong or exactly as intended. If it went wrong, she does not know why, or whether it is connected to something about her. Likewise, she does not know if she was selected for the ritual randomly, or whether there was something specific about her that led to the selection.
The basic scenario I had in mind was along the lines of "X years ago, she woke up in a pentagram, with almost no memories, surrounded by dead ... cultists(?)".
I'd figured the ritual took place in Varisia, within a few days travel of Sandpoint, but that is easy to change if desired, as Elena could have been travelling/adventuring.
She currently has far less natural power than a typical succubus. Over the course of the campaign, she will acquire far more. Whether either or both of these things are connected to the ritual, or have another reason, is left to the GM.
AFTER THE RITUAL:
Fairly straightforward here, she was essentially raised and trained by Elena in Sandpoint. She is probably familiar with Elena's friends and relatives (although I doubt that will come up in an adventure so far from where any of them are, but hey, who knows.)
Her reasons for joining the crusade are complex. Some of it is a desire to prove that demons can be reformed (and therefore that she will neither regress nor prove unique in the world.) Some of it is guilt over her dim memories of things she did in the past, and a desire to put a stop to demonic predation as a result. She would much rather reform than kill, but understands some hard decisions may be ahead of her.
TEMPTATION:
Temptation to evil can come in many forms, but Drea (perhaps like all Succubi?) has what is likely a biggest weak point in energy drain. It slots right to the pleasure centers of her brain and increases her power (eventually a considerable amount). And she is always, always hungry.
She is essentially an ex-addict. While that makes her uniquely suited to counsel people in similar situations, it is also a point of potential failure. One of her greatest fears is that she will resort to using it in some emergency, with the best of intentions ... and then be unable to stop.
She is of course aware of this and on guard against it, but it is always tempting nonetheless. Of course, it is entirely possible that some form of temptation will end up coming from a different and unexpected direction altogether.
She has made the Vow of Fasting as one of her 2-3 Monk Vows because taking too much pleasure in consuming something (or gaining too much power from it, in the case of potions) is uncomfortably reminiscent in manner and quality to the high obtained from energy drain. She is worried that one would lead to the other, and she may be right. (The Vow of Truth and, if she makes it, the Vow of Peace are more to keep her on the path of good in other ways; lying and violence, again often with the best of intentions, are temptations for everyone including her ...)
OTHER:
While she has learned to repress draining people's souls when she kisses them, she still causes injury by kissing. She does not know if she will ever find anyone immune to this, or if there is a way to stop it from happening. She has had little romance in her remembered life and is rather lonely.
She is very nervous regarding how other crusaders might react to her. She has packed her bags with books and games, in part because she has heard that war means a lot of boredom punctuated by the occasional nightmarishly frantic period, but in part because she hopes to make friends.

I don't have a character in mind yet. I need to wrap my mind around such proper nouns as "Kenabres:, "Mendev", and "the Worldwound" first. That usually suggests characters to me.
But if those of you who know me have suggestions, I'm all ears. (Or eyes in this case, since I'll be reading your suggestions and not really listening to them.)
The Dreamer Lost in Twilight |
You could use the new character background generator "Who the F*** is My D&D Character" (language NSFW). Paizo actually won't let me link to the URL, which is http://whothef***ismydndcharacter.com/ with the asterisks replaced with the obvious letters.
Examples:
inventive Human Bard from the forest of sadness who suffers from nosebleeds
warm-hearted Half-elf Sorcerer from an unchartable island who was raised by ghosts
old-fashioned Elf Barbarian from a small family farm who suffers from claustrophobia
The Dreamer Lost in Twilight |
So, so far there's been no:
1) Stealthy sneaky type
2) Dedicated healer
3) Utility/noncombat caster
The group isn't short of fighty types, especially since I've been told that someone who hasn't weighed in yet is likely going with either a ranged Ranger or big-damage-melee Ranger. But of fighty types, no one has yet chosen a:
1) Mounted combatant
2) Person with a dangerous pet (although this can be a bit redundant in a large party)
3) Whichever one of ranged or big-damage-melee remains unchosen
Hope this wasn't completely unhelpful?

Given the setting, I'm thinking I'll go Sanctified Rogue. I don't know what order I'm working for, so suggestions as always are appreciated.
If you can think of some of the things you'd like to be important to the deity that is related, I can suggest some gods which will in turn immediately suggest the orders.
The city that you are in is full of crusaders, so there are a number of Orders of and Hammers of, etc. And most of the groups that go into the Worldwound do like to have stealth scouts/someone who can deal with traps laid by abyssal saboteurs.
The gods that are most notably attached to the crusades are Iomeadae, Torag, and Sarenrae. But all of the major good gods tend to have people working there.

I've got Míril all written up, except for her backstory. Let me know if I missed anything else, or if I messed up any calculations.
I'll check the calculations after work today, but is the (Gold Dragon Bloodline) intentional or a holdover from Pasara?
Characters thus far
1st-level character sheet ready and background finished
JSR - Konstantin Argentaev
Kyrademon - The Dreamer Lost In Twilight's Embrace
1st-level character sheet most likely ready, tentative background
Geo3gh - Míril Celegeth
Has background but needs to rejigger character sheet
LunarG - Sigrit Akrose
Have an idea of what they want to play but don't have details yet
Kevin - Chancre Cailean / human male inquisitor of Cayden Caylean
Jalopy - Female Ifrit swashbuckler
gmr808 - ranged throwing monk
Am I missing anyone / anything?
If not, I'll probably start up the gameplay thread for some roleplaying/getting used to Kenabres although the events that will kick off the campaign will wait until people are ready (with the exception of the people who aren't planning on being able to play until later and I've already told I'd be able to get them to mingle into the main group later).

Yeah, that was a holdover from my copy/paste to capture the format. Míril's Order will go in a similar set of parentheses.

Most of the orphanages/holy orders that orphaned children are sent to are a little further from the border than Nerosyan. That said, once the sisters (and possibly brothers) of the temple where Miril raised realized that she was unhappy there they would have tried to guide her to a priestess in Nerosyan named Cessina Clarenroth.
Cessina is a former crusader herself and currently runs a store called Dawnflower goods and has a small meeting space upstairs for Sarenrites who live or are visiting the capital city.
She would have been able to encourage Miril towards people who could help with the young half-elves skill set and written a recommendation for Miril to join the Order of the Sunrise Sword.
None of this is in any way shape or form required, but I offer it so that you can ground your character in mythos of golarion - if you want to.
If you like the idea of the Order of the Sunrise Sword (which is really a crusader group in Mendev) I'd be very open to any suggestions that you have to flesh it out, since not much exists about it currently :)
Finally if you do like the idea of that group, would you like to have already been a part of the group, or would you have been traveling to Kenabres as a fresh-faced recruit?
One other question - do you plan on having Use Magic Device and taking advantage of scrolls and wands?
Míril Celegeth |
I'd like for Míril to have been part of the Order of the Sunrise Sword long enough to know the ropes, but still wet behind the ears.
I think I will be taking Use Magic Device. I need to look and see if I can squeeze it in now, or take it at 2nd level.
Míril Celegeth |
Revised Character Bio is up, adding some details that chavamana recommended.
When updating Míril's character sheet I saw that I already had taken Use Magic Device. So happily I don't have to sacrifice a skill to get it, or wait till later to take it.

The Order of the Sunrise Sword is well established in Kenabres. They were once known for the great ballads and odes their members composed about the crusades, but after an incident in which several of their number were possessed by demons, they have altered their focus to exorcism. Commander Ashus Striegher, a somber and soft-spoken Taldan, specialized in recognizing and ending demonic possession.
Given that, it makes sense to me that the Order would have a number of followers of Iomeadae and Shelyn in addition to a large number of Sarenrites. Commander Striegher is a follower of Iomeadae, but I picture the second in command being a Sarenrite.
Beyond that I'd love to hear of any ideas that you have for the Order. :)
Míril Celegeth |
Given that Roshan grew up in Kenabres and Miril has probably been there for at least a bit of time before the start of the campaign, there is a chance that you would have met or at least seen each other, but I leave it to the two of your to make that choice.
I'm happy to have them know each other, if Roshan is.
The entirety of what is published about your order follows:
Quote:The Order of the Sunrise Sword is well established in Kenabres. I agree about the makeup of the leadership. At the moment I don't have any ideas of my own to add, but I'll let you know when I do. I'm sure I'll have some after I read up more.
Roshan Suraj von Itzal |
I'm happy to have them know each other, if Roshan is.
Fine by me as well, though Roshan is still having some tweaking/restructuring of his background, based on communication with the GM.
Some things Miril would likely know about him then:1) Miril has never seen him eat anything other than a thin rice like gruel or other substance made from what passes as rice in Kanebras.
2) Miril has never heard him utter a word, though he seems to be of at least average intelligence. Perhaps it has something to do with the hideous scarring over part of his neck, visible through the opening in his cowl. My guess would be you have already found that he does know how to write in Taldane and has occasionally made an attempt sketching things. Albeit, very, very badly. One of those sketches was probably even you. Not that anyone could ever tell.
3) He seems to have survived mostly by helping out with the caravans as they pass through Kanebras or by putting out a "hat" and putting on a show, either impromptu or as part of a larger act that occurs from time to time (Bards, Dancers and Acrobats. There is also a Knife throwing exhibition, which he has expressed interest in and seems to be learning from).
4) other than the performances, he seems to be fairly reclusive, though you have likely noticed several of the orphaned street rats seem to look up to him...no, make that acknowledge his presence and possibly even communicate with small gestures. Though that's likely just been your imagination.
5) Under his cloak, he seems to have quite a number of small, sharp objects, many of which you have seen displayed in practice either before or after the aforementioned exhibition.
Is there anything in particular that Roshan would have noticed/discovered about Miril?
chavamana |
I know not everyone has their characters ready, but I'm planning on letting you get into explore mode and find out what Kenabres is like before we kick off.
As I said on the gameplay board I'm very happy to answer questions you might have about the city on this board if it isn't something you want to ask/do in-character.
