"Of course." the Lord says, nodding resolutely. "This is for my daughter... and I will have her returned to me, no matter what spirits are haunting this place and keeping us apart."

Unless there are other matters to talk about, it seems like Lord Prisius is willing to let you go for now - though he's clearly expecting you to be there for dinner later in the day. That's one meal to avoid worrying about, and until then, you're certainly welcome to begin exploring the area and talking to the residents.

There are four exits in this room - one, right across from the entrance, seems to lead to the kitchens. Two more are on the eastern wall - both of which seem to be closed, and look like they lead to private areas. The last room is open to the northwest, and through it you can see a great number of dolls and a number of reading tables.

"I will be sure to be back before dinner, I am sure the servants will ensure such." Harath says with a slight smile, mostly with his eyes.

Harath will first investigate the room with the dolls and reading tables. Bracing himself for any 'creepiness' about in the air, he walks in and examines the place, looking for any clues. Notes, a diary, drawings perhaps... anything that could serve as a clue of where the girl's thoughts lay before her disappearance.

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

This room is filled with a truly massive number of dolls - all shapes, sizes, and materials have been used, and the line the sides of the room in an utterly haphazard fashion. Fortunately, the spaces around the tables have been cleared, and the central passage is quite clear. There's another door directly to your south, and it's open - through it, you can see a galley with numerous pictures on the walls, and what look to be several more doors further along the passage.

As you near the far wall, you do hear a faint, quiet moaning. Moments later, a toy placed high atop a pile pitches forward and lands at your feet, squeaking as it hits the ground.

Active Effects: Human Dread (Fear Made Flesh) // Psychic (Dream) // Soulknife (Deadly Fist) 5 Mythic Overmind Tier 2 ||| HP: 104/104 | AC: 22, T: 14, FF: 20 | Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +9* | BAB: +5, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +3, Perception: +9

Where did the moaning come from? The toy pile?

Harath looks about the area where the toy fell, as well as the toy itself. He is looking to see if the toy moved of its own accord, or was pushed my some small creature or poltergeist.

The exact location the moans came from is hard to pinpoint - they seem to be coming from the very walls of the keep, and another toy starts to tremble. This one is close to the bottom of the pile... but shoots forward. As it does, the toys it was supporting start to pitch forward, threatening to bury you beneath them! ...Which, admittedly, isn't the most intimidating thing you've ever faced, but still.

Make a reflex save, DC 15. Success means you're able to avoid them in time, failure... well, buried under a bunch of soft toys until you spend a round digging free.

reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

You narrowly avoid the collapsing pile of toys, and the moaning sounds continue, but nothing else seems to be happening within this chamber... for now, anyway. After a few moments, the moans disappear as well.

Active Effects: Human Dread (Fear Made Flesh) // Psychic (Dream) // Soulknife (Deadly Fist) 5 Mythic Overmind Tier 2 ||| HP: 104/104 | AC: 22, T: 14, FF: 20 | Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +9* | BAB: +5, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +3, Perception: +9

Harath meticulously sorts through the toys, examining each one. He is beginning to look less for signs of life and more for signs of supernatural entities, perhaps a toy that doesn't belong that might have attracted a spirit.

The toys themselves seem to be nothing more than cloth, filling, and decorations - as mundane as you could ever hope to get, really. They've been made in many different styles and designs, but all of them seem to be suitable for a young girl - no hideous, bloated, or disturbing toys are anywhere to be seen, though a spirit wouldn't necessarily show a physical sign of its presence.

Harath will continue into the room beyond, that has drawings and papers everywhere, as well as desks. He will look about again for anything that seems out of place. Thinks like strange drawings that a young girl might not normally make, signs that she sensed a threat, or some supernatural entity; or perhaps simply signs that she planned to run away.

This long, wide corridor holds portraits of the Prisius family, including Melina’s mother, grandparents, Melina herself, and Lord Prisius. There don't seem to be any unusual markings in the hallway - and all the desks were back in the room with the dolls - but there are another two doors on the wall. The northern one is closed, while the southern one is open. Inside, you can see three beds and a young man inside. He looks tired, worried, and not especially friendly at the moment. "Who're you?" he asks bluntly, raking a hand through disheveled hair.

"A guest of Lord Prisius, by the name Harath. Might I inquire the same of you?"

modified by their manner of dress such that would signify either that they are the stableboy, or some relative of Prisius, etc.

The clothes of the guest are quite nice - much richer than any peasant would be wearing, though at your reasonably polite tone, he does take a breath and run a finger through his hair. "Jacobius Kranshup." he said. "Sorry, I'm just... worried right now, but that's no call to be rude." he does, however, narrow his eyes slightly. "...You're not one of the servants here." An observation, not a question... and he does seem a little more wary now.

"Indeed, I am not. While I am here at Lord Prisius's behest, I am not unduly beholden to him. Am I correct in presuming your cause of worry is the young lady who has gone missing? Or has some other ill befallen this house?"

"No. Yes! Gah, sorry. I'm really not thinking straight. Yes, Melina's missing - and she's my fiancee, so of course I'm worried about her!" He glances furtively down the hall, lowering his voice. "We were planning to move into the city so I could go to medical school, but she right after accepting my proposal. Nobody's seen anything of her since then, and I just want her to be safe! It doesn't help that my room seems to be the most haunted in the whole- there!" he points over to the desk, where a number of books simply slide forward and drop to the floor. "You see? I can barely even sleep here! There's definitely something wrong with this place..."

"Well, then, I shall need you to tell me everything. The long story of your time with the girl, leave nothing out. Any small detail could lead to her return. I am trying to figure out if she simply left or was taken, and if she was taken, by what or whom. At the moment, anyone could be a suspect."

as a heads up, i think i will try to get a question or two from the poet uncle before dinner as well

The boy doesn't seem to be lying - he's honestly frustrated, worried, and somewhat angry at his own inability to help the situation. However, he does begin to explain their relationship - how he's known Melina for years, despite her father's dislike, and how he came as a suitor after he heard others had been turned away. There was his joy when she accepted his offer, and the plans they'd made for living together... Lord Prisius' fortunes had been in decline for quite some time, so Jacobius had wanted to generate his own income instead of expecting to inherit the lands and what little wealth might remain.

He does pack in as many details as he can, trying to report anything that could be relevant... and you eventually hear a scratching noise from behind you.

"Do go on!" Horonimo said. "I knew following you was the right choice - this is excellent material!"

Jacobius simply glares at the playwright... but finishes his explanation, more worried about finding Melina than hiding things from an obnoxious, self-absorbed twit.

"Ah, the playwright. I did have a question for you, of great importance. You see, it appears to me that of everyone present, you would be the most promising candidate to tell me how this place came to be so very haunted."

"Well, it's pretty recent." Horonimo said, pulling out a sheaf of notes. "It really only started up after Uncle's fortunes started going south... richer places don't stay haunted for long, since we can just pay priests to fix the problem." he said. "It's probably my Aunt's ghost, though I must say, rattling things at her husband because her daughter's gone isn't very good material." He sighed heavily and shook his head. "Had to cut that out of my drafts right away - wouldn't please an audience at all."

know religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 does that stack up with what i know of ghosts? OOC it seems odd to me that the ghost was around to be restless about the daughter's absence, unless it was restless about something else...

To the best of your limited knowledge on the subject, it does seem to stack up. Ghosts are strange to begin with, and many of the things they do don't make a lot of sense to begin with. It's entirely possible that a ghost could start haunting someone over a matter like this... but it could be something else, as well. There's no way to tell.

"Hmm, so no other potential ghosts around here?"

no further questions at the moment for these two. are there areas that i can access that i havent?

Yes, there are other areas. The kitchens, sitting room, and Melina's bedroom have yet to be examined.

"Not that I can recall." Horonimo said, shrugging. "At least, my aunt's the only one we know of who died around here in the last few years. I suppose it could always be the ghost of some robber who sneaked in, tripped, and died without anyone noticing, but that would be a ridiculous plot development and a shame on all storytelling."

"ah, I see. Dinner draws near, and I have more investigation to do, so you'll have to excuse me as I see to it."

Harath heads to the girl's bedroom to investigate.

Through the sitting room is one of the main bedrooms of the keep - and it's very obviously a girl's. The room has been filled with gifts, from dolls and toys to paint supplies, collections of stories, and nearly anything else a young girl could want. The bed clearly hasn't been slept in for some time, judging by the neatness with which somebody has tucked the sheets in - but even as you look, the topmost blanket is suddenly dragged towards the wall and the moaning sounds begin again.

Active Effects: Human Dread (Fear Made Flesh) // Psychic (Dream) // Soulknife (Deadly Fist) 5 Mythic Overmind Tier 2 ||| HP: 104/104 | AC: 22, T: 14, FF: 20 | Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +9* | BAB: +5, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +3, Perception: +9

In a calm voice, so as not to attract those from the hallway, Harath says, "Spirit. Communicate with me. Why do you haunt this place?"

For a few moments, the moaning grows louder - and the blanket jerks back and forth several times, very emphatically, then stops. A few moments later, it begins to be tugged from the opposite end, heading towards you, and presses in on two sides. By the time it's done, the blanket has formed the unmistakable shape of an arrow pointing straight out of the room and to the far wall of the sitting room. The only thing of note in that direction is a bookcase, one of several within the chamber.

The door to the sitting chamber shuts a moment later as Lord Prisius comes in, pushing Horonimo back before he does so to prevent the intrusive man from butting into this private part of the keep. "Have you found anything?"

Active Effects: Human Dread (Fear Made Flesh) // Psychic (Dream) // Soulknife (Deadly Fist) 5 Mythic Overmind Tier 2 ||| HP: 104/104 | AC: 22, T: 14, FF: 20 | Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +9* | BAB: +5, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +3, Perception: +9

Making a note to inspect that bookshelf later, Harath turns to respond to Lord Prisius.

"No, milord. I have collected pieces to a puzzle, but yet more pieces remain before a cogent picture can be formed. Have you any ideas as to why this place is so haunted by a ghost or ghosts? Have you had any agents of the divine look into it?"

Remembering the books that slid from the desk of Jacobius's room, he makes another note to check those.

"Well, it's only been a few days. Might call them if it keeps going on, though." he grunted. "Way I hear it, their exorcisms only work half the time, but I suppose it'll be worth a try if it means I can get some rest. Finding my daughter is more important, though." he said, glancing around the sitting room. "She's far more important to me than some toppled dolls or chattering plates."

Active Effects: Human Dread (Fear Made Flesh) // Psychic (Dream) // Soulknife (Deadly Fist) 5 Mythic Overmind Tier 2 ||| HP: 104/104 | AC: 22, T: 14, FF: 20 | Fort: +7, Ref: +10, Will: +9* | BAB: +5, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +3, Perception: +9

"Understandable. I have a few more investigations to complete in these halls. Are there any areas you'd like to draw my attention to? I must admit, I am coming in blind, which is a good thing and a bad thing."

Lord Prisius shook his head. "Nothing truly stands out to me. You're free to keep looking around and talking to people, but..." he seemed just a bit doubtful that this would turn up any results.

There are a few areas you've yet to visit - the kitchens, for one, as well as the stables where the boy Melina was teaching works.

"Anything you'd suggest, before i keep going?"

Lord Prisius simply shakes his head. "Not much to suggest when it comes to ghosts. I've always left things like that to priests." he said, glaring over at the table inside of the bedroom as a few books start shuddering back and forth, then topple onto the bed and over the arrow pointing into the sitting room. Under his breath, you can hear him muttering, "Messing up my Melina's room, are you? Oh, yes, I'll call the holy men..."

"Hmm, I shall see to some books then." Harath says, now inspecting the books in the bookshelf that the blanket pointed at.

Lord Prisius nodded, a smile on his face - and with no warning at all, you feel a sudden blast of power shooting directly into your mind.

Will (DC 13 Negates): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Repelling the mental intrusion is almost laughably easy for your well-honed mind - and the lord of the castle lets out a roar of frustration as he prepares his next assault. "YOU'LL NOT TAKE MY DAUGHTER AWAY FROM ME!"

Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Initiative (You): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

He was just a bit more prepared than you were - and waves of kinetic force abruptly converge on your location, sent in by the power of his thoughts and backed by considerable willpower.

Force Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5) = 16
Fortitude (DC 13 halves): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 A Mythic Surge might change this result if you choose to use it.

Harath, displeased at this turn of events, attempts to snap the man out of whatever compulsion holds him. "I'm not here to take your daughter, but you'll lose a lot more by attacking me."

intimidate (demoralize): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Despite his sudden surge of anger - and outright hostility - there's no sign of any possession, enchantment, or mental influence affecting Lord Prisius. Despite that, the moans from behind the wall grow even louder as the man's energies surge - though there's quite obviously a degree of fear in his eyes as well.

"You already know too much!" he growled, even as the forceful waves continue to pound your location.

Force Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2) = 8
Fortitude (DC 13 Halves): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

However, that was a power that had already been set in motion... and a field of glowing armor appeared around the man a moment later. You're able to recognize it as Inertial Armor, a protective psionic power similar to the more-common Mage Armor spell. "And for my daughter, that's a risk I'm willing to take!"

Harath bolsters his body with Biofeedback, granting him some protection from the impending attacks of the crazed man.

Heavy thumping can be heard at the door to the chamber, but nobody on the other side seems able to break through - it's locked too tightly from this side, and the lord of the household retreated a few steps as psionic bombardment continued to strike the place where you were standing - moving even a few steps might have been a better option.

Force Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1) = 9

Another psychic barrage shot directly towards your mind a moment later...

How is the door barred? A lock, a bar, or something else?

also, it would have been nice to know it was some sort of area effect. maybe i totally misread what you typed, or it wasn't apparent by design, but it wasn't clear to me that it was an area effect. I did understand that it was ongoing, but from the description i imagined it to be more of a mental pressure than an orb of energy. Also, should i have made some roll to identify the power? if so, is that something i should ask to do, or would you have prompted me for such a roll? not angry, just wondering.

The door is both locked and barred. Upon realizing it's a power, you can make a check to identify it - the note on the armor was meant to be a tip. The kinetic force is only technically an area effect - though the area seems to be one square, which you hadn't mentioned moving out of. In general, I don't specifically prompt for knowledge rolls - those are left to your discretion, as a way of trying to get more information when you'd like to delve further into a given subject.

those 1d4s are bleed damage, 1d4 happens on each strike and then 1d4 happens on each round until it is healed. I forget when you wanted that applied, whether it be the [top/bottom] of [his/my] turn.

"Lord Prisius is possessed! Get a priest!" Harath shouts to those outside.

gonna use untouchable aura if he melee attacks me

All you can hear from the other side of the wall is vague, indistinct shouting. The thumping on the door doesn't entirely stop, though it does slow down a little.

"Fool, do you think a mind like mine could be possessed!?" the Lord shouts as the shimmering barrier around him deflects both of the attacks. A trickle of knowledge does make its way into your mind - that powerful barrier of his is a long-term power. Unless it's somehow disrupted, his defenses aren't going to weaken anytime soon... though at least he doesn't seem like the healthiest person around. However, it's becoming increasing clear that he won't be so easily subdued... you may not win this unless you give it everything you've got, and there's no sign at all that he plans to show mercy.

He steps five feet backwards, and you can feel your physical flesh start to heat up as he focuses on it...

Knowledge (Psionics): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Harath, growing desperate, sees only one option... an appeal to sentiment. Perhaps a vestige of the man's tattered mind still cares for the belongings in here.

"You don't like me touching the books, eh? How about THIS?!"

Harath steps forward, raises his hand and points at the bookshelf. A sonic scream blasts from his palm and hits the bookshelf

The bookcase dented inwards as the sonic power struck it, with books flying away from the room... but that was undoubtedly the least interesting part of the destruction. While the shelf hadn't been completely pulverized, enough damage had been done to reveal that the bookcase itself was part of a cover - and a thick handle had been expertly concealed behind the books, leading to what looked like a stone door of some kind. Enough pulling force on this end could almost certainly reveal whatever it was hiding.

Even as the man roared in wide-eyed anger, his mind continued to send forth a stream of force, looking to truly ignite your body and deal enough damage to bring you down.

Harath spends another PP and another MP to manifest Minor Metamorphosis, granting himself resistance 5 to fire and 5 temporary hit points. Additionally, he moves over and tries to pull the once-concealed handle to open the door, hoping that his salvation lie on the other side.

As the handle was pulled downwards, the door hidden in the back wall almost exploded outwards as a young woman in a fine (if dirty) dress came rolling out. Both of her hands rose up as her brow furrowed in concentration - and the glowing armor around Lord Prisius abruptly vanished. "Don't just stand there, stop him! I don't have offense!" she cried.

"You'll go back where you belong, Melina!" Lord Prisius cried. A psychic assault whipped towards the girl a moment later, seeking to flood her mind with sounds and images to render her unfit for action.

The attack just barely managed to connect with the Lord, sinking deep into his body and sending him staggering back slightly, even as Melina continued to focus her own psionic energies before sending out a wave of confusing energy, targeting only her father with the burst. "I'll explain later - don't let up!" she managed to cry out as she put forth her best effort.

Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Unfortunately for her, this one wasn't even a contest - Lord Prisius' rage threw off the psionic power with no effort at all. In response, he simply clenched his fist tightly, channeling his mental energies and sending in another wave of concussive, kinetic force straight to your location.

Force Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) = 10
Fortitude (DC 13 Halves): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
