i would reject it, especially if those negative levels are permanent. I would accept temporary pain for some more power, but i would not give up half my being to evil influence, especially as i am trying to straddle the line of neutrality.

Well, they're the kind of permanent that requires some Atonement spells... *Coughs* That's actually in the book for this part, by the way, not something I added as discouragement.

As you spoke your rejection of the power, the effect lessened, and your own power simply consumed the infernal energies trying to change you. It didn't stop there, though - like black fire, your energy surged out of your body, then along a hair-thin line straight into the Erinyes' body. She shot backwards, forming a literal crater in the cliff, and as the dusk cleared you could see that half of her body had been badly burned. "What in the Hells ARE you!?" she shrieked, eyes wide as she clutched at her injured side. "That's... none of that is possible!"

"I am nothing of the hells, and it appears that is to remain to be the case. That is fine, the piddling blood of fiends doesn't suit me in any event. As I am of this world and its people, I prefer less otherworldly dilutions of my power. As for recompense, you spoke of wealth. We would be best served putting aside discussions of my being and concluding your side of the bargain. I must return to human pursuits and you look to need some rest and recuperation.

The Erinyes tossed a glimmering platinum coin through the air and towards you. "More wealth and power... than Kelseph... ever received." she coughed out. She vanished a moment later, likely returning to the infernal realm from which she came... but as you caught the coin, you did feel stronger.

my mission was to just take care of this warlord, and return? also does the warlord have any other loot? (other than the bow). And I suppose I should bury Vegazi and maybe next to her mother?
