Don't forget to keep your HP up-to-date in your quick-reference bar! o wo/ PbP is slow, and you do NOT want to get killed because you thought you had more HP than you really did.

The creature in question might have disagreed with your assessment - it certainly didn't hesitate to lash out with both of its claws...

Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19

...although some quick legwork let you easily avoid the beast's swipes. Maybe that injury had hurt it worse than you'd thought, since it probably should have been able to land one of those strikes.

HP: 174/174(188/188 Rage) -4CHA Checks in Abyss [MP 9/9 ][LP 2/2][Rage 23/23][Perform 28/28][Trance 8/8]| AC: 24, T: 19, FF: 24 | DR 5/Evil: Pro. Evil | Fort: 19, Ref: 19, Will: 15 | CMB: +15, CMD: 26 | Init: +16, Percep: +19:

Round 6

Sword Swing: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 20 + 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 20 + (6, 2) + (5) = 38

Again spinning and dancing Hadran delivers another strike. He smirks just a bit surprised at how resilient these creatures are.

You hope. o wo~ ...Probably a good idea to have the DR and Energy Resist in your quick reference bar, though, following the format in my alias. XD

Blow by blow, you were hammering the creature down, and you could see cracks in the ground beneath its feet as you continued your assault. The bad news? They were fairly resilient monsters, and didn't easily fall even under heavy blows...

Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20
Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31 for Damage: 2d6 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (1, 4) + 7 - 5 = 7
+ Grab: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (17) + 19 = 36

...and while its first strike missed, it managed to grab ahold of you with the second.

HP: 174/174(188/188 Rage) -4CHA Checks in Abyss [MP 9/9 ][LP 2/2][Rage 23/23][Perform 28/28][Trance 8/8]| AC: 24, T: 19, FF: 24 | DR 5/Evil: Pro. Evil | Fort: 19, Ref: 19, Will: 15 | CMB: +15, CMD: 26 | Init: +16, Percep: +19:

Damage: 1d4 + 13 + 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 13 + (3, 5) + (6) = 31

Hadran not surprised to be in the clutches once again finds his opening and delivers a mighty punch causing the armored shell to crack and break further.

Well, let me put it this way... as a deity returning to power, you're quite likely to fight Outsiders at some point in time. XD Not these guys, though. I figured they were tough enough for this level.

With a final shudder, the second Chuul collapsed to the ground, its shell badly crushed by your repeated blows. Its claws loosened in death, allowing you to push them apart and drop back to the ground, leaving the two massive corpses in the hallway next to the room they'd apparently come from.

Hadran looks to the floor again.

If this continues this place may flood. I am not prepared to be underwater at this state of my power. I need to find this master.

He spends the next few moments resting regaining his breath from his rage as he mends the damage to his vessel with the wand.

CLW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (7, 2) + 2 = 11
CLW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4
CLW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10

After healing he sits a moment and drinks a bit of water before moving on and continuing his search.

Moving forward checking rooms as he goes. After resting.

Heading onwards, you see an area where the organic structures of a room are badly decayed, exposing the island’s dark bedrock beneath. A steady glow of light and the rhythmic sound of sharp metal on stone come from the corridor ahead.

Hadran heads toward the noise.

A floating will-o’-wisp globe illuminates this chamber, which contains rubble and debris from an excavation against the face of the northeast wall. Water streams into the room from cracks in the wall as the surf pounds against the other side. Five skum labor next to the northeast wall, digging frantically through an old foundation wall that seems to grow new layers as they dig. They're quite focused on their task and don't seem to have noticed you yet.

"STOP>" He states.

"You master has lost. The villagers have returned and the work above has stopped. Leave this place now."

At your shout, the five Skum whirled around, hefting their tools as they saw you. One of them laughed a moment later.

"You know nothing. The Master will be free once more!" It growled. On the bright side? Despite their obvious hostility, you were much faster off the mark than they were... so there was that, at least.

Your strike neatly bisected your target - and they hesitated for just a moment before swarming forward, stabbing out with the tridents they'd been using as makeshift tools.

Yeah, about that... XD

As you cut down your fourth foe, another Skum appeared behind you - but this one looked a little more solidly-build than the others, and he was wearing a sturdy-looking brown robe. As soon as he saw you, his hand snapped up with a slender wand held within. A ray of green light shot out of the end-

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

He then moves to engage the new threat wielding the wand.

Yes.

Your strike got rid of the last of the normal workers, carving deeply into its body and sending it tumbling to the floor. Another burst of green light shot out of the wand-

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

-but ended up being no more accurate than the previous shot had been, and you distinctly heard the creature spit out what sounded like a curse of time type. Sometimes fortune just didn't favor people, it seemed.

Or is he? Hadran is guessing at this point :)

Ray of Enfeeblement. XD

Your blow was a solid one, but this member of the Ulat-kini was clearly made of tougher stuff than his brethren, and he stepped back to give the wand one more try.

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

With what definitely sounded like a curse, he simply hurled the wand away, apparently no longer interested in attempting to use it.

You were definitely making headway against this foe - but he clearly wasn't done yet. Stepping back again, he raised one hand - and this time a torrent of electrical energy erupted out of his hand and lanced towards you as he launched a Lightning Bolt. On the bright side? You were agile and durable enough that even with a powerful bolt like that one, surviving it wasn't too hard...

Reflex DC 22 Halves: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Electric Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 3, 3, 2, 1, 3, 3, 2) = 26 Halved to 13, minus 5 from your resistance, total of 8 Damage. XD ...Even minor resistances are pretty nice, aren't they?

Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Damage: 2d6 + 13 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 13 + (1) = 19

Hadran follows the caster stepping again and delivering another solid blow with his blade opening a new wound on the creature.

The Ulat-kini clutched a fist tight, and a cloud of red energy appeared around it - quite recognizable as a Vampiric Touch spell-

Melee Touch: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 for Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 4, 3) = 21

-that he drove right into your torso to sap away at your energy and add it to your own. There was a heavy thud from behind the wall the other Skum had been digging a moment later, a sound which repeated itself a second time... then a third. With each thud, a few more cracks in the stone could be seen.

HP: 174/174(188/188 Rage) -4CHA Checks in Abyss [MP 9/9 ][LP 2/2][Rage 23/23][Perform 28/28][Trance 8/8]| AC: 24, T: 19, FF: 24 | DR 5/Evil: Pro. Evil | Fort: 19, Ref: 19, Will: 15 | CMB: +15, CMD: 26 | Init: +16, Percep: +19:

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Able to identify the spell Hadran knows what it is capable of. He calls fourth a bit of godly energy in attempt to end this battle.

Ulat-Kin second roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

As sheer energy is released the touch from the creature falls harmlessly to the side. Hadran is able to position and repost the attack.

Sudden Block Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Damage: 2d6 + 13 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 13 + (4) = 22

Attack for the round: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Damage: 2d6 + 13 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 13 + (5) = 22

Hadran will attack if creature is not taking down by the sudden block attack, if it is he will position himself for what is trying to break through and ready to attack it. So since sudden block is imediate like this is this the best way to handle it. When I use it I just make the second roll for the bad guy to help move things along or do you want to make the roll still. I'm sure by raw I'm supposed to use it before I know the result of the attack, but after ID'ing the spell it seemed like a must to not have this fight drag on with a bigger bad presumably coming through the wall. Just let me know. Thanks as always.

Either way works, really. XD Allowing you to do the reroll has the added advantage of letting you know how you'll react - although in the future, I'd like it to always be the first roll you make in your post.

After both of those blows, the Ulat-kini was badly wounded... but still not dead, and another torrent of electricity erupted over your body.

Reflex DC 22 Halves: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32
Elec Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 5, 2, 3, 2, 2, 1, 5) = 27 Halved to 13, minus five... same damage as before. XD Kind of weird, given how many dice're involved there.

The crumbling wall finally shattered a moment later - and behind it was a three-eyed, fish-like creature floating in a deep pool of water. A blast of mental magic rocked you a moment later-

Will DC 22: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27

-but you managed to shake off the power before it could truly start to take control of your mind.

"So the master shows himself."

Feeling this needed to end sooner rather then later Hadran steps again following the Skum. He summons his raging strength from within and strikes with the grace of a true angel of battle.

Starting rage and battle dance

Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Damage: 2d6 + 18 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 18 + (1) = 24

I will be leaving town tomorrow for a funeral on Friday. May not get to post again until Sunday or Monday. Just a heads up.

As a good rule of thumb, if I just tell you what the spell is, I probably rolled Spellcraft for you to save some time. XD So you don't need to worry about it after that point.

...Also, I keep mentioning this, but you really should include your currently active spells and buffs at the bottom of your post, with both effects and numbers (like temporary AC buffs). That way I don't forget to count them - and if they're not listed properly, they may not be counted even if you mention them later. It's, uh, motivation to make it easier on both of us. XD I run a LOT of games, so it really is important to make it easy to find the important details. And it helps ensure you don't forget about them, too.

With one final blow, you managed to drop the Sorcerer - but that still left its master, whose thoughts bombarded you in a language you didn't understand. It did seem very... insistent, however, and its tendrils lashed out at you in a dizzying barrage.

Your weapon sunk into the creature, and it let out a loud cry. It darted backwards - cautiously, so as to avoid taking another blow - and abruptly the stone wall in the opening reformed, sealing shut from either side to block your way to the creature.

After taking a few moments to rest Hadran will continue to search the corridors looking for this creature.

The path does, in fact, continue to the south - where it ends in one last chamber, and no other routes. This chamber is partially flooded, its dry western section reserved for an alchemical lab cobbled together from salvaged Azlanti equipment. The lab appears to have not seen use in weeks, as dried chemicals and reagents have gummed up its condensers, extractors, and crucibles. Thin copper sheets hover above the makeshift lab, engraved with esoteric formulae. There's no sign of any other creatures here (although you do remember that the sorcerer came from this direction earlier).

I must have missed a secret passage or something.

After searching the room and thinking on the lay out he will go back over his tracks and search where there most likely could be connections to another room that fits into his mental map of the place. He will keep detect magic up as well while searching.

So passive take 10 is a 26 perception when going back through looking for a possible secret or magic door.

There's quite a bit of magic in the unused alchemic tools - probably enough to get six doses of some kind of anti-curse elixir if you grab some of the bottles. There's also a Wand of Remove Curse with six charges lying on the ground nearby.

In your mental map of the place, though, the wall the creature came through was on the outside - rather than turning inwards like all the other rooms. There was also a large empty space that didn't seem to have anything connecting to it... but you did detect an illusion over where the creature had retreated.

As you reach out, the illusion on the outer wall fades, revealing a much larger chamber within. Inside is a large pool of water, and with your keen sight, you can locate a number of cracks in the walls and some fish. It was connected to the larger ecosystem, then, which presumably explained how its inhabitant had been fed.

More of a problem? There was no sign of the creature that had attacked you, and your Detect Magic wasn't registering any auras from within the room.

Hadran begins searching the room perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29

The majority of this room was taken up by the large pool in the center. It seemed to be some fifty feet deep, and half again as far across, with its own small ecosystem supporting life within. There continued to be no sign of the creature you'd fought - but you did remember that there'd been a solid period of time when you hadn't been looking at the wall...

Of course it wished to be free.

After the search and though Hadran heads back to where the skum had been working to mine out to the sea.

Heading backwards along the path - they'd been digging on the wall that the creature had broken through - the sounds of battle soon returned to your ears. Hurrying along, you ran all the way back towards the entrance. There, near the exit, another man was brawling with the aquatic beast. A dog was by his feet, angrily snapping at any tentacle that came close. Midfoviing lay on the ground nearby, looking stunned (but not in immediate danger). Every few moments, the creature feinted slightly as it looked to get closer to the exit, but at least for now it was being held at bay.

You're in combat and may act. Burkhardt is 10 feet from the creature, Hadran needs a move action to get into melee range.

"Erstehund, the beast seems shy, but we agreed to a fight to the last! Shameful." The man was dressed timelessly in a tailored button-up shirt and suspender-ed pants, with curly blond hair supporting a baby blue fez that matched his eyes. Currently, his sleeves were rolled up and he was all fists. He yelled at the creature as he stepped forward, he yelled at the creature with a tone of voice that was simultaneously commanding, intimately familiar, and udderly alien, "¡ʎןןnq pǝןɔsnɯ-ʎqɐq noʎ 'ǝɹǝɥ ǝɯoɔ," delivering a timely fist that allowed the dog another bite.

-who didn't seem weakened despite the insult the rather dapper figure had tossed out. His fist was a little more accurate than his magic, though - but it was followed up by a truly heavy stroke from Hadran, whose blade stabbed into the already-wounded creature's body and tore through it, very nearly bisecting it. That was too much for the creature to handle, and its dying body collapsed to the ground, having never reached the freedom it had sought.

The man stared at the alien thing's corpse a moment before dusting himself off and straightening out. "Friend, that was quite the thrust! Bravo, bravo!" He clapped loudly (with no hint of sarcasm), and shot the dog a bemused look. He opened his mouth to speak again, but stopped short while a puzzled look passed. He repeated that process again before giving up and continuing in Common, "Huh. If I were to guess... that battlecry sounded... Draconic? That's the first one on this list of languages I am discovering I don't speak."

Resolving to explore this further, he shook it from his mind and beamed as he extended his yet-bare forearm in greeting, "Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm Burkhardt of the Versed Vow." Failing to see any glimmer of recognition, he continued slower, "...and this is Erstehund... the First Dog?" He drew a severe frown, "Say, where are we?"

Hadran pushed by the extended hand and went to the girls side. Bending down he checked for signs of life.

"Midfoviing..." As he felt her pulse and she squirmed a bit Hadran let out an audible sigh of relief. He scooped up the dragon girl. He turned back to the man. He looked to the still extended arm then to his own holding the girl then back.

"Yes, Burkhardt. Good, I am called Hadran. You are 50' bellow the sea. In the bowls of a small island off the shore of the town of Blackcove. This creature had taken possession of many of the townsfolk. It seemed to of been having them work to free it. I know not why it was trapped here. Now why are you here with no recollection of how you got here? Come there is a lab room set up. I will lay her on the table there and care for her. There are also goods and wealth to gather."

He issues the last as if it was an order from a commanding officer and heads off to the lab area. Once there he clears a spot for Midfoviing on the table and begins to heal her wounds.

"So have you and answer?"

Burkhardt's eyebrow arched sharply at being ignored, but then it clicked. "Oh, Midfoviing is the name of the girl. One mystery laid to rest, then." He stared intently while Hardan spoke, absorbing his explanation like a sponge. "Fascinating. On the material plane, then? What the devil..."

He fetched his overcoat, an indigo ulster with trimmings to match his fez, and slung it over his arm before he & Erstehund followed where the others had gone. Arriving there, he filled them in immediately, "Well, tit-for-tat. Truth is, I haven't the foggiest idea why I'm here. Or why I don't remember languages I once knew. Or why my fists feel so... mortal." That last word might have sounded condescending, but his face was contorted with grief as he alternated opening and closing his palms. "Getting away from it, sorry. What I can recall of the few years from before I arrived here becomes progressively... hazier." He looked down to his companion, "I've already asked Erstehund and he knows no better. He doesn't know me at all, truthfully, but he feels our bond and offers me the benefit of the doubt for it.

"Beyond the suspicious amnesia, I have no reason to believe that my most recent past was spent anywhere but at my home, at the base of the Mountain of Heaven. Next clear memory comes when I wake up on a stone bed down the way, my most core possession by my bedside. I've been conscious for, oh at most, an hour?" He leaned against a table in the lab and breathed deeply. "Does that answer everything?"

Midfoviing slowly stirred, groaning a bit and clutching her head. Physically, she was fine - suggesting the creature had hit her with some kind of mental assault and managed to overpower her defenses, rendering her useless for a little while. With a little bed rest later, though, she'd be fine - although you did hear her stomach gurgle.

Strange, can it be another? What am I now to draw them too me. How many have fallen, been cast out or just forgotten with time. There is something more to all this.

He looks down to Midfoviing as she moves around.

"She seems physically fine, but from the sound of things starving. She does love food." He smiles up at Burkhardt. "Well my friend you are not the first with such memories or lack there of that I have met in my travels. If you are what I believe you to be then I can help you. You see I am on a quest to regain that of which I have lost. Though mine was taken from me do to my pride I feel you too are in search of something missing from yourself. I was once a god, I believe the same to be of you. Is this so?"

"I've only the blandest, I'm afraid, but hopefully it's better than nothing." He fished in his bag for a ration and gave it to the strange girl. "How many, then, if I'm not the first? Did they also travel with you? What became of them?"

"You see, you are correct in your hypothesis. I indeed was a god, Hadran. The god of deals, of pacts, though not as Asmodeus is..." Mentioning it made the connection for him, "...and I assume because we neither know each other, but I remember he, that you do too and he remains yet a god, yes? Dear...

"No, I am... was a god that represents agreements of a symbiotic sort, where both parties are well-aware of what the other asks, where both parties work towards another's benefit. Folk who understand that communities, commmitments, and the like are meant to be man's boon, not the other way around. Do you follow?

"I wish for us to help each of us to help the other in reclaiming divinity - the simplest and most perfect type of arrangement. But if you've entered similar arrangements with other fallen deities and they've failed in these quests, well friend..." he frowned, "... then I need to know that."

Midfoviing tilted her head, looking between the two of you with a bit of confusion. "You've met someone else like you before...? When did that happen?" she asked, clearly perplexed. "And what's this about the gods?" ...That had never really been explained to her, had it? (Admittedly, she was usually thinking with her stomach to begin with, but still.)
