Silian d'Thuranni - Elf Druid

Set 1:

4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 4) = 19 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 4) = 20 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 5) = 19 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 4) = 18 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 5, 4) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 2) = 11 9

Not too hateful...

Set 2:

4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 2) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 1) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 5) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 3) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 1) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 2) = 16 14

I think I am inclined to choose Set 1.

Background:

Silian has always been a brat prince, spoiled by the stations of his family (will take Favored in the House asap). His Dragonmark developed early (Least Dragonmark as first feat), and Silian has used that to his advantage in throwing his weight around the House. When the Shadow Schism took place a quarter of a century ago, Silian was thrilled that his family was making a name for themselves.

Though he is blessed with the Mark of Shadow, Silian's talents have ever lied in the ways of the natural world. During a childhood excursion, Silian was set upon by a mother blink dog defending her nest. Though the good-natured creature sought only to scare the elf, the scratches he received made him hate and lash out at the creature. The dog would have easily overpowered the elfin child had it not been for the convenient attack of a displacer beast. The feline spared Silian, admiring his cruelty towards the blink dog. As she ripped open her foe and began to consume it, she bade the young elf to take some of its hide and fur as his trophy. She introduced herself as Rylsiali, and informed the youth that she would see him again.

When House Thuranni took the very image of a displacer beast as their herald, Silian knew he was destined for something more than shadow politics. He would make his family proud, and so he set off in search of his path, letting his curiosity lead him and his family's status save him.

Ok just wondering if I could use the rolls I have for a changling rogue being the half dragon is a no go?

I'm...Sorry? I'm not sure I quite understand what you're asking.

If you're asking about using the previous rolls, then yes, you can.
If you're asking about a half-dragon...The answer is a flat no.

In other news, I'll be making my choice of final 4 tonight, at 22:00 EST.
Final character stats are unnecessary until after I've made my decision, I'm looking more at the characters themselves than at their numbers.
I'd like to encourage you all to post any character biography before tonight's choice.
Other than that, I'll have the post up later, see ya then!

Krik' is a dragonwrought desert kobold, he has spent the majority of his life traveling between various kobold holdings in his lifelong quest to unite his peoples and secure their place among the humans.

Only recently, after passing his right of passage, has he decided that it is time for him to travel among humans, and other races to bring forward the rights of kobolds everywhere!

It's not that Krik' hates humans, he's never even tried one, though he has heard they are pretty good with a little mustard. They just seem to think that brawn makes right. With his dragon heritage for sorcery, he finds delight in out-witting humans. He isn't above playing the kobold stereotype, if a human assumes he is weak just because he is smaller, and cold-blooded, too bad for the human.

He has found that human children are often a delight, and impressionable. He hopes that in his final years he will be able to instill ideas and legends that will help his people long after he has passed on.

crunch:

This is minimal until I know if Krik' will be playing, it takes a bit of time to put crunch together and stat out a character. Here are the basics:

Finally got the background together for my human dragonmarked soulknife, Kalas D'Orien:

Kalas made his way through the city, the early evening rain shower drenching his clothes and skin. For the umpteenth time he wished he’d splurged for transport on one of the many covered skycoaches for his journey from Terminus in Lower Tavick’s Landing to visit 'Aunt' Selkatari at the Gathering Light in the Overlook district of Upper Dura.

The young scion of House Orien hurried along Sharn’s elevated roads, stairways, and skybridges as he climbed ever higher toward his destination. As always, the journey across the breadth and height of the City of Towers afforded Kalas the opportunity to reflect upon his past. The young man had been born in the city of Passage to Thoris D’Orien, dragonmarked heir of the Couriers Guild, and his wife Lashkatari, a kalashtar originally from the city of Sharn who also worked for House Orien. Kalas possessed only vague memories of his mother, as she was killed in the Last War during a Thranish assault on Wrogar Keep when Kalas was very young. Despite the loss of his mother, the young boy had a pleasant childhood in the House enclave in Passage.

When Kalas reached the appropriate age he underwent the Test of Siberys, but failed to manifest a dragonmark at that time. His lack of a dragonmark did not diminish his worth in his father’s eyes, and when Kalas turned eighteen years of age Thoris created a position for his son in the Couriers Guild in Sharn. It was on the lightning rail journey from Passage to Sharn when Kalas manifested his dragonmark - as well as his psionic abilities. A band of raiders (purportedly from Droaam) attempted to hijack the train and kidnap a young Brelish noblewoman. Kalas and Thoris joined with the House Orien guards upon the train to repel the gnoll raiders. Battling side-by-side with his father against a gnoll berserker, Kalas suddenly teleported behind the creature, allowing both he and his father to flank the creature. The fierce gnoll knocked Kalas’ weapon from his hand, but in the next instant the young man manifested a blade of psychic energy from his fist and thrust it up beneath the creature’s jaw, killing it instantly. Shortly thereafter the House Orien guards succeeded in routing the invaders, saving the lightning rail passengers and the Brelish noblewoman with minimal loss of life.

After their arrival in Sharn, Thoris took Kalas to meet the kalashtar and Adarans in Overlook. There he met 'Aunt' Selkatari, a kalashtar of the same spiritual 'lineage' as his mother who oversaw martial training and monastic discipline at the Gathering Light. Selkatari agreed to train Kalas in the abilities of the soulknife, and to teach him the ways and customs of his mother’s people.

For the past year, Kalas has split his time between his duties in the Couriers Guild and his training with the kalashtar and Adarans in Overlook. His assignments with the Couriers Guild have taken him from the lofty heights of Skyway to the House Cannith foundries in the Upper Cogs, and all places in between, allowing him to meet all manner of interesting characters. Through his studies with the kalashtar, he has come to embrace the faith of il-Yannah, the Path of Light.

I haven't picked another character to pair Kalas with yet; I thought I'd wait to do that once the characters are selected (and if Kalas is hopefully picked!). Kalas' background and duties with the Couriers Guild make it possible for him to have met and interacted with just about anyone. I hope he meets the needs for your campaign. Thanks for your consideration!

I'd like to submit a character for this. Just in time for the cutoff too!

Zan Lia is a female human illusionist of oriental descent (need to look into Eberron more to tell you the specific race). She has a rather average build, with long elegant legs and a regal-looking profile. Her head is shaved bald, though her thin eyebrows tell you her hair must be jet black when allowed to grow. Her eyes are dark and almond shapes, seeming to hide behind them a mystery. Those first meeting her see her as rather exotic in appearance, though not so unusual a sight to turn heads (it is Eberron, after all).

Zan Lia is a human who originates from the fallen nation of Cyre. She began her life in an upper class home in Greenland, learning lessons in art and wizardry from her sorcerer father. She proved to have inherited a solid innate grasp on illusion magic, even if she didn't inherit her father's magical abilities themselves. She spent most of her childhood alone, and as a result developed an introverted and slightly antisocial personality, more comfortable in her tomes than in the company of peers. Nevertheless, she was also taught the Cyran tago, just as any other Cyran is, and developed a sense of patriotism and appreciation for her nations' love of the arts.

A surviving witness to the devastation of the Day of Mourning, Zan was only 16 during that fateful event. Her parents joined the thousands of others leaving the region, yet in the anarchy of that exodus she was separated from her parents by a self-styled warlord who looked to take her as a wife. Luckily for her, she escaped the encampment and managed travel to Lyrenton with others who were not foolish enough to stay in the wake of such devastation; she was taken care of by a fatherly merchant during those travels. In Lyrenton she became an apprentice to a practiced wizard of some local renown, and further developed her arcane skills while trying to develop her own personal identity.

After 2 years in Lyrenton, Zan decided she needed to move away. The Dead-Gray Mist was visible from the city limits, and the constant reminder of such turmoil was too much for her. She stole a wand from her master and pawned it to pay for a trip on the Orien Rail to Sterngate, and after a short stay there another trip via lightning rail to the mythic city of Sharn. She has somewhat naive hopes that anyone can make a life for themselves in the big city, and hopes to become an arcane mage as great as her father was. Secretly, she has a far-flung hope that somehow she can become reunited with her parents some time, though she doesn't make active moves toward that goal.

Zan is True Neutral. Though she finds comfort in order and values law, she is prone to hasty actions and wanderlust. Though she was very introverted as a child, her travels have exposed her to many different types of people and she has opened up more to "outsiders". She still needs her alone time, and finds silence and artistic contemplation to be refreshing, but she is also eager to understand others. She is usually quiet and submissive in conversation, allowing those with a more aggressive attitude to walk over her at times.

I haven't built her yet, but she'll be an illusionist wizard, focusing later on shadow magics. Maybe go Shadowdancer later, though probably not.

Here's rolls for the character:

Set 1: 8, 9, 12, 12, 12, 17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 6) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 6) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3, 6) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 6) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 5) = 21
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 4) = 9

Set 2: 9, 11, 11, 13, 14, 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 4) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 1) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 1) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 2) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 5) = 14

I'm tempted to go with the first set for a 17 into INT, but we'll see.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Good evening everyone, it is now 20:13 EST, and it's time to give you all my final decision (though I'm a bit late!). I would like to mention that I'm adding an extra slot, bringing the total party size to 5.

Those on the following list, please get working on your final crunch for your characters :)
* denotes character crunch has already been submitted

Edgar Lamoureux - Totem, the Warforged Totemist*
I've never seen a Totemist played, and I'd love to see one!

Max Hellspont - Kalas d'Orien, the Human Soulknife*
Soulknife is one of my favorite classes, and I've not seen much psionics in games I've been in.

Dragonblood472 - Silan d'Thuranni, the Elven Druid
Your choice of displacer beast is rather unique, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes from it.

Spazmodeus - Unnamed Changeling Rogue
Who says a Changeling has to have a name? Or even only one! Not much from you, but every party needs a rogue, and Changelings are loads o' fun, especially when paired with a good Bluff skill and several sets of equipment/clothing. Muahahahaha!

Shane Gifford - Zan Lia, Human Illusionist Wizard
A specialist? Cool. From the Mournlands? Even cooler!

My sincerest apologies for those not on the above list, but please don't take it personally; I'm trying to keep relative party balance and the like.
As stated above, those on the list, please go ahead and create full characters and profiles! See you soon, when all 5 are finished.

Thanks for receiving my late entry! Here's the character sheet; I'll move it onto an alias soon. Zan Lia

I'm not sure who Zan would "pair with" for party cohesion; maybe some stroke of chance landed her with someone as a new friend? Maybe she's intrigued enough by the warforged to spend time trying to learn more about him?

Thanks for accepting my application, Damien. Looking forward to starting the adventure!

Shane, your physical description of Zan as well as her meditative nature sounds like she could be of Adaran or Riedran descent. Perhaps she found her way to the contemplative Adaran and kalashtar community in the Overlook district of Upper Dura, and met Kalas there?

The Exchange

My post was eaten that said that I could work with knowing Zan, now that I don't have an artificer buddy, but Zan meeting up with Kalas works too.

Careful, Shane. They all wanna get with Zan Lia :P

Dark Archive

Silian is a drifter, finding himself in whatever trouble he can, so he can know anybody else from practically anywhere. He hails from the Lhaazar Principalities, so he's done some traveling.

I'll have his sheet/profile ready shortly.

Alias created.

For my character's ethnicity, it would seem "Cyran" is an ethnicity of its own (looking at Five Nations as a reference), so that's what I'll put down for that.

For the tie-in, I like Max's idea of a connection with the Adaran/kalashtar community of Overlook. I would say that after staying in the community for a month or so she was invited to the Gathering Light, a community hall for the Adarans where her quiet intelligence and exotic dancing style earned her a place among the locals, as an equal if not one of their own. There she could have met and befriended Kalas, especially if he is the type who's friendly to newcomers. Though she would be highly interested in learning more about the psionic powers and heritage of Kalas, she would shy away from any attempts to convert her into a follower of the Light. Though she doesn't say so in as many words, she finds herself much more comfortable when surrounded by shadows and darkness.

On a somewhat related note, these two becoming good friends could have an interesting light/dark interplay. His outgoing personality and devotion to the Light contrasting with her quiet and passive study of the shadows. I'm not sure exactly how devoted you wanted Kalas to be, or how outgoing he is, but it's a thought.

I can see the connection between Kalas and Zan working well. Kalas is a sociable fellow, and is used to meeting and interacting with all sorts of people in his line of work.

Kalas is rather new to the Path of Light. It's more of a philosophy than an actual religion - meditating to bring about world peace and so forth - and he wouldn't try to actively convert anyone. He can respect Zan's desire to stay in the shadows.

Looks like everyone but Spazmodeus is up and ready.
I'll take a look over everyone's full builds, and then once Spaz is ready, we can start!

Moving things to the Discussion thread for this campaign, please go on over to there.
