If they DO wind up on an alien plane and don't die in a few rounds, why not have fun with it? They're likely stranded for the rest of the game, so try making up a "rules-lite" minigame just for them on the side!

We have a specific section to discuss scenarios with other GMs. Please use that for these kinds of discussions. It is fine if you post a link in this thread asking for opinions. If you have to spoiler your entire post it gives me the impression this is not the right thread to place it in.
Thanks, happy gaming!

Just out of curiosity, how many PBP games are people playing in?
I just started my 2nd concurrent scenario and have one PFS AP and one non-PFS AP going and that's starting to feel like a lot.
Magabeus |
I currently have 17 campaigns on my campaigns page.
1 Flaxseed Station
1 Castomir Station
1 Campaign that I use if I select players for a game by lottery
1 PFS scenario I GM
1 PFS module I GM
1 ACG game
4 SFS scenarios
1 SFS AP
2 PFS modules
3 PFS scenarios
1 Core scenario
Some of these games are almost finished, I intend to reduce this list a bit to keep quality of the games good.

Depending on how busy the games are, that can be quite a bit. I currently have 2 non-PFS AP's going (but only 1 posts regularly), and am about to end Solstice Scar and start 2 new PFS modules. I find about 3-4 active games to be my current max I want to take on. Otherwise I have to take time away from doing important things in my life to keep up.

Varies significantly.
You will find your comfort zone, and the tipping point where you are having a quality game vs 'going through the motions'. I recommend staying on the side of quality :)
GM Aerondor |
I'm towards the top end of the lot I think.
Currently I am playing 10 PFS, and 3 SFS, along with 2 APs
GMing.. 3 PFS - although one of those is about to end. Have another four PFS or SFS starting over the next six weeks, but at least one more of the existing games I'm GMing will hopefully have dropped off my that stage, should should leave be at around five.
My comfort zone is typically around four games GMing and around a dozen being played.

Two thoughts on how many games a person can enjoy:
As a general rule, as people get more experienced, they can participate in more games than when they were less experienced.
Most people probably find their limit by going over it slightly, and realizing 'Hey, this isn't so much fun right now!' and then gritting their teeth until one or two games end and they are back under their limit.
Depending on the exact kinds of games, I find that I can run about five and play in about six at the same time. If it goes over that, it's not as much fun anymore.

I can't handle running more than 1 game at once and my level of fun while playing drops off quickly after about 8.
I'm currently trying to get my pbpbs all the way down to 0 so I can take a month off and refresh as I've found myself getting irritated at small things that I shouldn't let bother me as much as I should.
So far I'm down to 5 games remaining and the most recent game I joined started Oct 6.

As mentioned, everyone has their personal limits and typically it's found through trial and error.
I myself average GMing 3 games at a time, and playing similar amount of games.
Gummy Bear |
To add to the data pool, I find that my limit on playing is A LOT higher than my limit for GMing. During the Gameday, I think I had around 7 PFS games and 2 AP games. Running 1 game is my GMing max, I can't do more than that.
I'm in the same boat Pirate Rob, a break is going to be nice once my current wave of games has concluded :)
thunderspirit |
I'm currently running a module and an AP, and ran a pair of tables during the first half of the PvP Gameday. (Both those were the same scenario and they tracked pretty closely together, so it was less stressful.) I have a few more in which I'm playing but am slowly paring those down.

There is a lot less work involved in playing than there is in GMing, at least in GMing with an eye towards detail.

Looking for some advice from the community: what is the attitude towards taking ten on knowledge checks in this format?
I have a bard that uses the Analytical trait that allows them to take an eleven when they take a ten. I use this fairly often at the table, combined with other knowledge boosting abilities when something looks important.
But there is no way I can ignore the spoilered DC sitting right there on the screen, and no way that I can make the decision to take ten or roll without bias. So, what conclusions have the rest of the community came to on this topic?

@DM Livgin no way that I can make the decision to take ten or roll without bias
Maybe make a global RP decision: is your bard one to play it safe and take 10 whenever he or she can (which would seem to fit, given the trait) and you have the bard do that even when the player knows the DC will not be reached ; or the opposite: the bard loves to gamble with fate and always rolls (and you do so even when the player sees taking 10 would make the DC)...
Khellek the historian |
I generally take ten on my knowledge checks outside of combat. To make things easy for this, I keep them spoilers in my header.

Just check with the GM/group in the discussion thread at the start of things. I would bet most won't care at all. If you have built a character such that takes 10 usually works and that is what you had planned to do, well then it would be silly to say you no longer have that option.
There are a very small number of GM's that don't actually put spoiler DC's with the info. They ask everyone to make their rolls, then PM the appropriate info. That is probably the 'technically' most correct way to handle it. But it slows things down by about a day each time checks are needed. PbP is slow enough already that it seems unnecessary to most of us.

Just out of curiosity, how many PBP games are people playing in?
I GM in FtF games in our local shops, but I don't GM in PbP. I just don't feel like I have the time to devote every day needed to do it well. Posts as a player generally take much less time and can be done even on lunch break at work. Though very much formatting can be a pain on the phone.
I am a player in generally 1-4 PbP at any given time. Usually only 2.
Then every so often, I try once again to get in a long running PbP AP/campaign. So far all, one of those died pretty quickly. The only one that didn't die, was not a good match for my play style. So I quit to make room for them to find someone that was a better fit.

Is reporting my Gameday game (as I did) the same as reporting the session as normal? If so, it doesn't seem to have 'stuck,' if my chosen GM credit beneficiary's Sessions roster is any indication.
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Thank you. It is indeed there.
I assume that means my players have had their credit thusly registered as well?
chadius |
Only report your games through the pbpgameday site, don't report it in the normal place and pbpgamegay.
Usually it takes a while to process all of the gameday sessions, so I'm not surprised you haven't been credited yet. It took 2 months for my Game Day 4 boon to show up, so I'd be surprised if you didn't get credit by 2018.

Is there a master event for reporting non-gameday pbp games, or does each GM just create their own?

Every GM creates their own event. We do not have a master event for Flaxseed games.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to check in and make sure everyone's Gameday 6 games have either been wrapped up properly or are still moving forward. If any of you are players in a Gameday game where the GM has not posted in over a week, let me know and someone will help you out. If there is anything else I can do to help wrap up Gameday successfully for everyone, let me know.
GM Glyn |
I’m a player in a Gameday 6 game that is running long, should our group go ahead and roll boon chance?
Magabeus |
Glyn, can you get us a link to the game? The Port Godless game you are in started in July, while Gameday started August 25th.
