Paeter Linseed |
As Dorvhan blesses Paeter with the luck of Desna, the halfling lashes out quickly with his shield and trident, hoping to take down the injured Pharasmin quickly. "The incursion with the demons and the lying bastard with my longsword has left my exposed heart cold. I will end any threat to myself with impunity and show mercy to no one!" he cries as he stabs and slams the man before him. "Surrender and throw down your weapons or you all will end up like him."

Syrak trips one of the Pharasmins and puts him on the ground! Pandoor and Dorvhan try to talk reason and it seems to put a pause in the leader, as he calls out, "Wait! Positive energy should have had an effect on them... maybe they are true!"
The others stop and look at their leader as he raises his hands. "Quickly, explain yourselves!" demands the leader.
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
Dorvhan knows that giving through truth is risky, but worth it, "Thank you! We have donned magical disguises of great power to infiltrate the area. We are.... We are Pathfinders. We've come to ferret out a plot and item that is antithetical to all our best interests. By Desna, if one of you has prayed for a spell to see the truthfulness in another's words, I would gladly submit to it."

Pandoor Flaxseed |
Zombie-Pandoor nods profusely. "My companion here speaks the truth. Please hear our plea, we don't want to harm you! Dorvhan here a priest of Desna!"
EndlessForms |
The leader looks to his companions, who shake their heads. "None of us has magics to reveal the truth in your words or appearances but you do not act as the other undead and you certainly do not respond to our magic in the same way. If you would allow me...."
He tries channeling one more time but when he sees that you are still unaffected he shrugs and says, "I must trust that your disguises are indeed as good as they seem. I am Kuryn, a priest of Pharasma. We are conducting raids and trying to free living captives. We’ve been in the area for a few weeks now scouting the area and have finally set to freeing the prisoners here in Corpselight."
Kuryn looks about nervously. "Indeed, I am inclined to believe your story about disguises because you are not the first such infiltrators we have encountered. We encountered several of them a few weeks ago. Thinking they were undead Gebbite abominations, we dispatched them. Only later did we realize our mistake, but by then it was too late. This was in the swamp about a mile south of the town."
Kuryn then continues after a moment's pause in recognition of his mistake, "If you can tell us, what is this plot and item you are seeking?"
Pandoor Flaxseed |
"You... you killed our fellow agents..." Pandoor puts a knee on the ground and would have cried if he weren't undead.
"We must find their corpses. I fear they turn really into zombies this time..." says Pandoor, not really interested in explaining the goal of their mission.
Looking at his dissacated hands, he thinks at loud.
"This spell is truly powerful. It doesn't dispel itself even after death..."
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
Dorvhan lets Pandoor continue to parlay. Meanwhile the dwarf begins tending to the humans, making sure the Pharasmans can help them out as the Pathfinder team goes deeper into danger....
Paeter Linseed |
Paeter, already angered by their attack, has his mood even further soured as he learns of Joktan's death at the hands of these glorified cultists. "Since you have slain our allies, we will need you to take us to their bodies immediately. Our mission is of no concern to you at this time." he says glaring at the Pharasmin leader, keeping his trident in hand.
Syrak Divinion |
Syrak ponders in thought for a moment.
Syrak puts his hand on Paeter's shoulder, trying to calm him down a bit.
"They will have to answer to Pharasma in time for their crimes."
Syrak turns to the Pharasmans "We do need to know where their bodies lie though. Returning them to their friends and families is of vital importance to us. After we recover their bodies we will gladly tell you what we know of Corpselight, both the living and the undead. Your quest is noble and I am thankful we were able to talk rather than waste our efforts destroying one another."
EndlessForms |
Kuryn says, "This is a dangerous land, no matter what disguises you have. If you will not tell us about your task, I will at least urge you to complete it as quickly as possible."
Kuryn continues, "We can not accompany you as we have more work to do here saving these people. But your companions were buried about a mile south of the last human farm on the south side of town. You will see there a temple of Urgathoa which we overtook and used as their resting place."
----
Following Kuryn's directions, you venture south. A twisted, forking path of dry land winds through the swamp here. A low, solitary hill rises from the horizon to the south, an ominous stone cairn marring its smooth crest with a ghastly crown. The area is covered in an unnatural pall, and even natural sounds seem dulled.

The temple of Urgathoa stands somberly atop the low hill, it’s dark, smooth stone seeming to suck the hollow light from the air into itself, giving off an aura of darkness. Large double doors stand ajar, providing a glimpse into the square sanctuary within. A black altar stands on a raised dais along the south wall, covered in cobwebs and dust. Small torches are set into pillars throughout the room cast an eerie, flickering glow on the entire chamber.
Joktan Heth, once a human Pathfinder but now a vile mass of writhing worms in undulating humanoid form, stands atop the altar. Surrounding him on the temple floor are his undead minions, who watch his every move, swaying back and forth and chanting in a tongue at times guttural and at others sibilant. Three creatures with long, sharp teeth, and pallid flesh that is stretched tightly over their starved frames surround the altar.
You recognize the other undead as ghouls.
For Joktan:
The robed figure of slithering worms jerks his head up at an unsettling angle when he senses your approach. “Welcome, Pathfinders. So it just occurred to me that LoH might not work with undead anatomy. Although looking at the spell it says "treated as undead for the purposes of channeled energy, cure spells, and inflict spells, but not for other effects that specifically target or react differently to undead." Lay on Hands isn't any of those but is quite possibly expected to be effected. Lemme know GM.
