Sorry, guys, had a host of Real Life things come to a head over the past 48 hrs. (Long story made short: after a press release early Wednesday, my wife's position was eliminated and she was sent home on Thursday.)
I have struggled to get into the proper mindset for this and my other games since then, and I apologize for not being able to give y'all the game you deserve. Can I please request a pause until July 5?
Pandoor Flaxseed |
Indeed! RLCF! :)
GM thunderspirit |
Thanks for your patience, all. It was a good decision on my part.
Game on!

In today's edition of Pirate Rob knows too many rules:
Start/Complete Full-Round Action
The "start full-round action" standard action lets you start undertaking a full-round action, which you can complete in the following round by using another standard action. You can't use this action to start or complete a full attack, charge, run, or withdraw.
In the Combat chapter (not the magic chapter)
---
Pretty much the only thing this rule ever gets used for is casting 1-round spells. which "A spell that takes 1 round to cast is a full-round action."
Meaning the above rule is applicable.
---
I'm happy to stop leaving rules notes if they bother anybody.
GM thunderspirit |
Doesn't bother me to be shown where I'm wrong. :-)

2 people marked this as a favorite. |
I prefer that you CONTINUE to leave these notes.

Same here! Please do continue, it's a pleasure to learn more about thèse!

I've been slow overall this week and still will be until next Monday. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Ok, news time:
I've been back in Indiana working on the family farm for a few months now but unfortunately it's only been "part time". Of course, on a farm this means I was still working 50-60 hours per week but I'm paid by the hour and I don't have benefits, so I've been making about 2/3 as much as my salaried cousins (probably 1/2 as much if you take out how much I'm paying for market insurance).
So I've been looking for a more secure job with benefits but nothing had come up yet and my aunt (who is the director of special ed) happened to mention me and my background to the high school principle. He called me as soon as she left his office (she didn't even have time to call and warn me) because by total coincidence they just had a biology teacher retire the day before and were in desperate need to find one before the end of the month, as school starts on August 11.
Anyways, I just had my interview (with my former high school genetics teacher) and it looks like I will be teaching the freshman biology courses at the high school this year! Unfortunately because I'm the new guy they're also giving me the "learning community" classes this year (the classes for the students who struggled in middle school) and as I have no background in education I think this will be quite a challenge for me but nonetheless I'm pretty excited that this opportunity just sort of fell into my lap. And they reassured me that I won't have to have the learning community classes forever, which would be nice.

Congrats, EF!
Dorvhan is a HS teacher (and by most accounts, a pretty good one). Don't hesitate to ask questions, will full understanding that he isn't gonna be able to firehose you with all his knowledge. :-)
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
Huzzah! That's awesome.
I'll echo what Chris said. My degree is not in education, but I too became a teacher (starting in biology no less.) I've learned a lot of lessons the hard way. I'd be happy to spare you that pain.
Part of my latest promotion includes helping mentor new teachers, so seriously, don't hesitate. I'll drop you a PM with my real contact info.
Pandoor Flaxseed |
Yay! That's great news! Congrats, EF!
BTW, what's a HS teacher? That's a whole lot of teachers on these boards. My brother, Lithrac, is a teacher as well. :)
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
I had no idea you and Lithrac were brothers! And thanks for the compliment TS.
HS = High School teacher (Years 9-12)
Falco Flaxseed |
Awesome! Yeah, I knew you were a teacher as well, but I didn't know (or forgot) that you started in biology. That's awesome!
Yeah, I imagine this year will be a strong learning curve for me in learning how to teach effectively at that age level. I taught a 400-level genetics course at Wisconsin but that is a totally different beast because it was quite advanced material at a quick pace and the students wanted to be there and were very motivated to learn independently between classes.
At least going in with a masters I'll get a slight salary bump and (I think) in Indiana I can basically apply for a "highly qualified" teaching license after one year of teaching. With only a bachelors degree teachers need to go through a Transition To Teaching program which costs around $8000 and takes 1.5 years, although you can do it while you are teaching. So I think that will make things things a little easier for me.

Just a heads up guys, I've got to prep Siege of the Diamond City today, pick up my new puppy, and then I'm at a convention until Sunday afternoon. Posting is going to be spotty at best until then.

New puppy! What kind? I love dogs but if its final weight is under 30 lbs it doesn't count. I've got a golden retriever and a collie and I'm still trying to convince the wife to let me get a newfoundland now that we've got a decent-sized yard. I grew up with St Bernards so I'm a big fan of the giant-breed dogs.
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
So we wanted to get a companion to our 15 year old, 80 lb, pittie. So we rescued a puppy that is half lab, and we THINK half german shepherd. She's 8 weeks. We rescued her from a shelter in SC. She's in perfect health, but an accident early on left her with a considerably forked tongue.
Pandoor Flaxseed |
Oh! So cute! :)
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
Thanks Pandoor!
I'm also still recovering from an Iron Maiden concert. I still get wired like it's my first one 20 years ago, but I'm a LOT slower to recover.

GM thunderspirit |
I went to a Broadway in Chicago show last night. Decidedly not Iron Maiden, but similar recovery issues. LOL
GM thunderspirit |
I will get chronicles up this evening or tomorrow. I presume everyone is going normal progression...?
Pandoor Flaxseed |
Yes for the progression :)
Pandoor will ask someone of the society to cast "remove blindness/deafness" on him. However, I have no clue of the prestige cost of such a spell. Anyone knows ? (Yes, I also am a lazy dude)
Pandoor Flaxseed |
Also, dayjob for Pandoor is Perform (oratory): 10 + 17 = 27 so that's 50 GP.
I'll post the beginning of the Dalsine affair right now, since there's no level to pass. :)

Chronicles for 4-17: Tower of the Ironwood Watch, hot off the presses Photoshop!

Hey everyone, I'm posting my schedule here now, as it affects a large chunk of time.
Thursday August 3 to Monday August 7: I'll be camping in the Green Mountains. I'll have the ability to post once per day, and it'll be with a laptop, so they should be "real" posts. Don't be shy about botting me if I'm a player.
Wednesday August 9 through Friday August 11: I'll be in Cape Cod, and promised Jill I'd unplug for a bit...
Wednesday August 16 through Sunday August 20: I'll be at Gen Con, so posting will be existent, but spotty.
After that it's smooth sailing for a few months with no planned breaks in the works.
Droghedor Coram |

And I will see you there! :-D

I'll be out of the Green mountains tonight, and able to catch up. Hopefully you feel better.

As a heads up I'm going to be travelling all day Wednesday and likely won't be able to post until Thursday.
I'll then be in England on vacation for 2 weeks. Will have plenty of internet but am likely to post a bit less than normal although still managing at least once and hopefully twice most days.
Droghedor Coram |
Have fun, Syrak!
FYI, Dorvhan and I will both be at Gen Con starting tomorrow. After the convention I'm out a few more days to catch the total eclipse in southern Illinois and visit family in St. Louis. Since I like being married, my availability will remain limited through Wednesday, August 23. Drog can be botted to lament and melee as needed. :-)
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
Zinou if you come to Gen Con, I'll buy you a drink!
Just a heads up everyone, Game Day VI starts tomorrow. Check into your games. (EndlessForms is signed up for a Starfinder game with me.)
Falco Flaxseed |
Yep, I'm still interested in trying out Starfinder but I know nothing about it and don't own the book yet. I guess taking it slow through a PbP is a good way to learn.
Dorvhan Thunderstriker |
Just a heads up, I'll be AFK from 1500 EST today until about 2000 EST Monday. I'll be able to sneak in a post a day, but that's likely it.
GM Zinou |
Hey everyone! I'll be afk for two weeks from Satursday until October the 1st, I'm getting married and then we go on our honeymoon. :)
I was initially hoping we could finish the scenario before that but a near-death experience happened ;) Sorry about the delay! Also, if you're around Montreal or Quebec, throw me a PM, maybe we can catch a beer!
