Question: Would it be possible to acquire a prayer piece via some method for the character at some point during or after Second Breath?
On pg. 38-39 of Glories of the Most High: The Unconquered Sun, for reference.
Would slightly alter my character generation, mainly in the use of a flamepiece for familiarity with such weapons, in addition to a bow.
Alas, I don't own GotMH yet, so I can't promise that.
I just went and bought the bundle, however, so let me get back to you shortly.
Okay, so I've read the writeup on prayer pieces. Frankly, they seem unnecessary to me; given the option, I'd probably rather have a plasma tongue repeater upgraded to not require Repair, simply because it's so much easier to get your hands on the proper ammunition. (Yes, it's more expensive, but it's also a lot faster - at 5 hours per bullet, you'll need extensive use of Craft Charms to keep yourself supplied with sufficient ammo...) That said, though, I can't see any reason to keep them from you, so I imagine at some point you'd be able to either find or make one if you so desire.
Alimah has been hiring for her expedition from among the residents of Gem, so it would be easiest by far to be from there. The game will take place largely in the South, so I would strongly, strongly recommend that everyone speak Flametongue to some degree or another.
Oh, Crux: I don't have the Scroll of Heroes (one of the reasons why I'm not using Merits and Flaws, though probably the least of them), so I don't know what the Library Background actually does. I'm debating ordering it, but in the meantime, can you tell me what your two dots are supposed to do?
It's a collection of books and materials that aids in research. It starts at one die to Lore rolls and goes up to two dice to Lore and Occult rolls and one die to any other ability as long as it can be researched. It is a full sized library and is not easily maintained. Library requires either resources or contacts or backing to maintain one.
A two dot Library adds one die to all my Lore and Occult rolls when I have the time to use it. It starts at one die to Lore rolls and goes up to two dice to Lore and Occult rolls and one die to any other ability as long as it can be researched.
I wanted an in game reason to continue to increase my occult and lore abilities and thaumaturgy too. If Library isn't allowed, what about an artifact that would do the same thing.

Really, the prayer piece is there because some people, such as I, would like to have an actual handheld gun, rather than a small flamethrower, in our Exalted. Just that they decided to make them, in my estimation, exceedingly rare in the Second Age, given the time necessary to craft the ammunition. The time constraints are rather exhaustive, until you hit about Essence 4 to 5 with Craftsman Needs No Tools to speed the process to 2 or 3 bullets in an hour.
If you'll allow them at some point, then, I'm likely going to have him craft his own. He'll need to pick up the appropriate Lore, Occult, and Craft abilities along the way, so I don't expect this to happen right away. Can I assume that Craft (Air) would be appropriate for creating the item, or would a mix of Fire and Air be more appropriate?

Fire and Air would be needed to make the gun itself, and (per the rules) Air alone would make the bullets. I think the actual Craft roll for both would be Craft (Air) - the Craft (Fire) requirement would just be a minimum you would have to meet.
Alternatively, I think I would allow Inexhaustible Bolts of Solar Fire to make prayer piece slugs as well.

Sounds good to me.
Pretty much done here. Let me know if anything needs adjusting, or if there are any errors I missed.
Backstory: Auric has spent life until this point as a blacksmith, a desert guide, and a Guild mercenary. He grew up in Gem, the son of a skilled blacksmith who was much favored by various mercenary companies that passed through the city. Auric would listen raptly to the adventurous yarns spun by the mercenaries as they would come to the shop. When Auric came of age, he almost immediately joined the best company he could find in Gem, The Company of the Talik, recently hired into Guild employ. He has spent the intervening years building solid relationships with several mercenary companies through the South, many of them people he knew from his apprenticeship days with his father. Auric has never looked back from that point in his life, and dreams of founding his own company someday, to be known far and wide in the South. For now, he keeps working hard, and hopes that a little luck will let him begin his climb to the top.

Background looks good - have a point of Backing (The Company of the Talik) and a point of Contacts as well.
I edited my last post; you might want to take a look at it.
Thanks, Davi. I'm still ready to go, but I want to make sure we have all the people we want/need before we officially get started. I think I'll try to get things moving on Saturday though regardless, just so we don't lose what momentum we have...
Shisumo(Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior))
Are we ready to start today?

I can get my background up tonite. Going to expand what I've been talking about in thread.
other than that, I'm ready. :]
DM Shisumo, I've added some special items to my list of equipment as we spoke about earlier.
Also, the reason I took the Library background is to have an easy in-game way to improve my Lore and Occult ratings and abilities. The Library background represents a sizable number of books which aren't easily portable and it's a drain on Resources as well. I was thinking that perhaps an artifact, such as a Dragonking crystalline book, could offer reference on Lore and Occult subjects and give me what I was looking for. Otherwise, I have a wagon full of well wrapped tomes.
Finally, I want to have items on hand that Lady Almah would want. Does she prefer Age Staving Cordial (no one would know), some Life's Little Luxury Blends (deodorant, dyes, or special perfumes or incense), or even Blood-Staunching Compresses? I'll have two of whatever she likes prepared.
Okay, so that didn't work - I'm on vacation at the moment, and family stuff wound up eating all my free time today. I'll try again tomorrow if I Can find some free time and someplace with wifi, otherwise I'm back home tomorrow night and will get things started Monday morning.

I was thinking the same thing about the artifact - honestly, Library sounds like a really lousy background, since the benefits are much worse than you'd get with even a single dot Artifact, given the upkeep cost. Even allowing for the idea that you would want something with little or no commitment cost, I'm having serious trouble figuring out why you wouldn't want an artifact that have the same mechanical benefit without all the drawbacks for 2 background dots. Let's assume you have a crystal reader or something similar that grants the same 1
die benefit to Occult and Lore rolls as long as you have it handy.
As for what you hae onhand, you haven't actually met Lady Almah yet, so you don't know what she might want available. You can pick a couple items for yourself instead, however.
Lynora and others who might not be finished with characters yet - we can begin with role-playing and fill in numbers as we go, if need be, so don't hesitate to join in if you're still wanting to play.
Sorry for not posting lately. Very hectic school week right now. Most likely won't have the mental power to post properly again until after Saturday, but I'll try to get some little ones done tomorrow.
Sorry!

Pssst Shisumo.
Don't forget the Scion game too. :)
fray(M carbon based dice form graphic guy 10 / geek 5 / collector 6 / daddy 2 / GM 4)
oops.
I had forgot equipment.
Copied Unfetter's list for a quick fix. Though I wouldn't have a Buff Jacket, probably the next lower one. I'll fix that up tonight when I get to my book.
/my bad

Nope, I'll keep the buff jacket.
Shisumo(Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior))
Yeah, there really isn't much of a lower one...

handy link to the above post - might want to stick it in your character profiles so you can find it later:

From the perspective of your GM, I would suggest taking all of the available followers and Dashki. This is a converted D&D mod, after all, and while individually you are probably tougher than your 1st level D&D counterparts would be, don't forget that healing in Exalted is a much different, much more painful process than in d20/Pathfinder. Indeed, it's going to be two days even before the arrow-cut on Unfettered's cheek is fully healed. So, individually you might be much more potent, but you are also much more fragile without the kind of healing magic D&D usually provides. Someone else to soak up damage might be useful.
Regardless of who you take, when it comes to actually using dice, I would prefer that Davi run Axe, Adz and Dirk where necessary, and Wandslinger run Unfailing Stone, Trevvin and Yesper. If you decide to take Dashki, then Dax would be a good choice to run him, since Crux is by far the least martially-inclined member of the group just now...
And in answer to your questions, Unfettered, you are more than welcome to have suitable lockpicks.
Aren't Trevven and Yesper busy convalescing right now?
Indeed they are, but who knows what might happen going forward? I'm basically saying that, in general, I'd prefer you guys handle your own followers when the dice come out.

Anyway, I'll bring along all three of my men, although I admit I don't really get Exalted's combat system.
We'll take care of that soon enough...
Also, fray, don't forget that Ata has a buddy he can call upon if so desired.

Oh ok. I didn't know I was able to call upon him I thought he was more GM NPC tpye. Good to know.
I also need to put up my background... thought I did that already...
By the way, these are great links for everyone to read through. Very, very, very helpful stuff here. I would encourage all of you to take a serious look, even if you have some previous Exalted experience.
