GM Chyro |
You can pull, but technically she's still grappled then, with those disgusting entrails around her waist, i imagine.
Only way it does that again is if it confirms another grapple.
Grint manages to pull the thing out of Elsa's throat.
Father Burdock
Grint Mavric |
If it's twisted around her, she might be grappled, but actually now I'm grappling it, so it can't really attack Elsa anymore. As I've become the one controlling the grapple on it, he must either try to escape the grapple or try to become the controller. It can't really attack Elsa at this point.
GM Chyro |
Then again, if you grappled it (a wriggling appendage), you haven't done any pulling just yet. Any extra actions happen when you roll for another grapple.
Any grappled creature can still attack, by d20.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Any set of rules that require an entire flowchart to understand and then still get confused are a set of rules I don't want to bother with imo
GM Chyro |
Grappling a slick appendage....is more of a grey area, you're not grappling the creature itself.
From my point, it's easiest to say 'Str to break Elsa from the grapple', or 'aid other'. A-ok for me and i'm going for that to keep things easy.
Father Burdock |
@GM: If Elsa was targetted before Burdock, he'll use Liberating Command (immediate action spell) to allow Elsa to get free from the grapple as an immediate action with a +8 bonus. That way, if she can get free with that, she'll still have her turn.
As Elsa gets the tentacle down her throat, Burdock casts a quick spell to grant her freedom before another tentacle goes after him!
Fort save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
He avoids choking on the tentacle, then tries to wrench it free from him!
Grapple to get out: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Just in case
Escape Artist with bonus!: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
And if that succeeds then withdraw action across the damn room far away from the tentacled horror
Thorn Dulani |
Eh I dont find it difficult but yes being grappled generally sucks. Really its compounding effects here that are making it bad. You got a sickening aura so failure to that is -2 to everything.. Which makes the resulting things harder.
Thorn noting the trouble his current allies had with the creature advances upon it and swings his Greataxe in an arch seeking to cleave it in twain. He battles against the pains of the enemy caster.
" Your power here is nothing! I will not allow such worship to go on. "
Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Axe it, Axe it Good: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 231d12 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
5ft Axe
GM Chyro |
Ok, with that, she could make it out.
After which, she & Grint have their turn retconned.
Damn man...immediate action spells? Sheesh :P
GM Chyro |
It's undead, what did you expect?
Hopefully for you, you pass the fort save, staggered 3 rounds is a bother.
Thorn Dulani |
The opposite really ... Zombies tend to be strong, but I didnt expect to much more or less than a 16.... Grint helping was likely what did it to counterbalance the blechening from sickened.
GM Chyro |
Grint, this is a slick blooded wriggling thing we're talking about. For being slick and wet, that will count as grease.
Normally a tentacle thing like this doesn't stay lying around in a square to grab.
------------------------------
Barn attic, round 4
Thorn heads for the caster.
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17Dmg: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Thorn evades the entrail and hits the cultist.
-------------
"HEATHEN!"
Cultist tries to make an arc.
AoO Thorn: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13, a miss sadly.
Making the move, the cultist says something in a horrible tongue.
Valiant resolve.
The abomination's flesh has runic lines creeping underneath the skin.
It 5ft steps East.
Escape artist tentacle: 1d20 + 5 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 10 = 20
Ok, lucky there.
Icky entrail vs Grint: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7Dmg: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5Grapple?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Icky entrail vs Father Burdock: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25Dmg: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5Grapple?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Grint evades an attempt from the appendage.
A second lashes at Father Burdock for 5 dmg. Once again a sick appendage wriggles down his throat.
Fort DC 14 vs 1d6 ⇒ 4 nl dmg
A third goes for Sivar, who ducks in time.
The 4th heads for Thorn, slapping him in the back for 4.

Elsa, Father Burdock, Grint, Sivar
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Now that she is safely away from the entrails Elsa sends a bolt of Ice at the undead horror Elemental Ray: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 in case that hits touch AC Cold: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
GM Chyro |
The elemental ray hits, but no damage shows.
Despite not breaking free, Father Burdock's dwarven constitution withstands the choking entrail.
Grint & Sivar
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar 5 ft steps across to between the monster and Cultist
"Die you foul beast"
Stab power attack on beast: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 241d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
GM Chyro |
The stab is very much a hit, but the flesh seemingly takes it in like a fist into rubber, no damage.
Grint
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn chops at the Monster as well confused by its sudden resilience before moving up to the foul caster instead.
The Weighted Swing: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 241d12 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
GM Chyro |
Grint; look at this.
I'll go with cutting off 5ft from it, that is replaced in 1d2 ⇒ 2 rounds by what still is inside its guts.
These entrails are part of its body, still attached.
I never said they were separate creatures.
Grint cuts off 5ft from the entrail (#1)
----------------------------------------
Barn attic, round 5
Thorn
Damn man :)
Thorn cuts the monster down...thankfully for the occupied throat of Father Burdock.
------------
The cultist looks angry at the destruction of his creation.
"HEATHEN, you shall PAY for that."
Dark energies swirl around his hand, before he places his hand upon Thorn's chest.
"The dark void take your breath!"
Cast defensive, DC 19: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Touch Thorn's chest: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Aboleth lung variant, evil variant
DC 17 will please, or you start to suffocate as per environmental rules.

Elsa, Father Burdock, Grint, Sivar
Father Burdock |
It's actually a weird feat that invalidates something that would make sense otherwise: without Strike Back, you cannot ready an action to attack something outside of your reach even though physically part of it must get within your reach to strike you.
Thorn Dulani |
All these Will and Fort Saves.. Im glad I'm not a Fighter. Also these rolls.
Thorn looks at the man with steadfast eyes as he tries to force the cultist's will from him.
Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Grint Mavric |
I know the Feat, but I envisioned it that the entrails were separated from the thing and attacked us on their own. If they didn't I wouldn't have attacked it in the first place and just shoot at the origin.
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar looks at the dead beast in relief and casually tries to stabby the cultist
Disco face power stab: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 71d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
GM Chyro |
Sivar stabs into air, like Travolta.
Elsa, Father Burdock & Grint
Father Burdock |
Untentacle myself: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Chyro |
Cough cough on Father Burdock's account.
Elsa & Grint
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn looks at the cultist, stony demeanor and focused effort on the man. He speaks in both languages. " Your methods are foul. Your Minions are gone. Your creature laid destroyed. Your spells.. ineffective. Your dark lord shall not rise nor shall you ever again. Damerrich has deemed it so and as his pawn I shall carry out this order. "
The almost practiced lines spill from his lips as he steps forward and engages the main threat.
Damerrich's Will: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 251d12 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
GM Chyro |
The cultist shows a cold stare at Thorn.
He takes the heavy hit, but remains standing.
"Heathen! His coming will not be stopped."
He brings the tip of his eerie dagger to underneat his chin, and starts laughing like a maniac, before thrusting it upwards into his head to the hilt.
He drops dead......
GM Chyro |
Well i'm kinda waiting for actions before continuing.
Since my lunchbreak at work is over, my post will have to wait.
Grint Mavric |
Grint sheaths his sword, then looks around, bow in hand for any weird things. Take 10 on Perception for a 22
He looks towards het female captives. "Ladies! Can you hear us?"
GM Chyro |
Nothing unusual, aside from the makeshift altar, inscribed with dark markings, are in the attic.
The three captives, locked devided over the 2 cages, whimper in grief.
Little girl: "Daddy...the evil man killed daddy."
Young woman: "Yes we can hear you, is that fiend truly dead?
The desecration of my husband's body is unforgivable."
Sivar finds his confiscated belongings downstairs.
GM Chyro |
The dagger, when you will have it removed from the cultist's skull, appears of the same design as the one found in Kharum.
A sacrificial dagger of clearly evil design, as it has several bits to inflict most gruesome torture or wounds, evident by the carvings and gutting performed on the late father/ turned abomination.
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar after finding his gear, goes back to his fellow inmates and brings them down to the group.
Sivar addresses the party
"I owe you thanks, you gave us the opportunity to free ourselves"
Grint Mavric |
"Well we should free these poor people first, before we talk about freedom." Grint says as he searches the cultist leader for a key.
When found he'll open the cages for them.
