Father Burdock |
"Interesting; haven't seen dwarven craftsmanship like this since I left home.", Burdock indeed curious as Grint suggested. "I wonder if the forge is active.", he ponders, putting his ear to the door to listen for the telltale sounds of blacksmithing.
Taking 20 for a 23 Perception check to listen through the door.
GM Chyro |
You can hear a clear beating of metal upon metal and the heavy wheezing of the bellows. Someone is working down here. You also hear what you think to be manacles and chains.
GM Chyro |
I'll push this forward.
Without apparant traps present, Lyssa opens the door. Ahead is several feet doorway before the room itself. Although the 5ft wide passage leaves merely that much ft wide los. Ahead stands a dwarf in chains and manacles, working the smithy.
The dwarf has seen you, but something in his eyes hints he's trying to warn you.
Lyssa Kail |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Lyssa carefully moves up to the dwarf. "Hello? May I ask what you're doing here? It seems a strange place for a smithy."
GM Chyro |
The copper bearded dwarf continues his work.
"Erm yes, well, dwarves work their smithies underground lass. Would you like to come see my work?"
Father Burdock |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Burdock is in shock to see another dwarf here, the first he's seen in over a months time. With his darkvision and dwarven instincts, he nods at the dwarf, although noting the deplorable conditions and obvious signs of captivity.
"It's good to hear the anvil sing. Any reason why we shouldn't see your work?"
Burdock holds up his silver holy symbol of Torag from his neck as a sign to the other dwarf.
GM Chyro |
In a clearly forced smile he replies;
"Well two guards have been aiming their crossbows at me, doorway is flanked...."
He would continue, but a quick side glance halts him to do so.
GM Chyro |
Ah, you moved your token.
Lyssa walks into the room as if nothing is wrong and is beset upon from two sides.

Father Burdock |
Assuming I can go too :)
Burdock, furious over the situation, charges forward, ignoring the threats of the foes, drawing his hammer as he prepares to swing at one of the dwarf's captors.
Double move and eating a pair of AoO's.
GM Chyro |
That depends, if Grint moves into the room, he'll eat them instead.
GM Chyro |
Grint moves forward a bit, but stays in the walkway.
Father Burdock comes in, to swing his hammer some more. He takes 2 attacks in the process.

Botting Father Burdock's turn.
Father Burdock swings his hammer towards the attacker.
Warhammer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Smack: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9, he smashes square onto the man's head and he drops over.
At this point, red will bleed into KO on his next turn. Sabel, if you want to hit him before he does go ahead, otherwise this is over.
GM Chyro |
Well, guess not.
The red guard faints after continuous bloodloss.
Combat over.
The dwarf obviously sighs with relief.
"At last those two are dead, you wouldn't believe the gossip they exchanged between the two of em. Like little nancy schoolgirls. Could you be so kind and release me of my restraints, there should be a key in one of those guys' pockets."
Father Burdock |
Thanks GM! Got busy yesterday.
"But of course!", Burdock tending to the prisoner before he takes care of the party's wounds.
Roll any CLW's you need if you got hurt!
"Why were they keep you here?"
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa looks at the dwarf imperiously, yet another oddity in this place of odd things.
GM Chyro |
The dwarf rubs his wrists, which give off a shaded pattern on his skin.
"Aye, thank you.
I am Gurin Copperbeard, smith from the dwarven city of Janderhoff.
A few weeks ago i, along with some of me colleagues, were on a trade caravan to Kharum. While i was makin' some new weapons from some iron we had obtained, we were attacked by surprise in the late evenin'. Those arrows fly fast. To my surprise, i was taken, probably they saw some use for me. I had been drugged and woke up within this small forge, i've been made to craft daggers, swords."
He points at the weapons in the rack on the northern wall.
"Help yerself with them, better you take em than these weird lot.
But it surprises me, to see a group such as yourselves coming all the way down here, you must have some beef with them then?"
The weapons in the rack are a mwk Greatsword, 2 mwk short swords, a mwk halberd and a 2 piece set of daggers.
2d100 ⇒ (27, 24) = 51
A dagger of Defending & a dagger of Dispelling
GM Chyro |
Gurin looks sideways.
"Don't mind if i do. But i'm assuming you've come from above? With this masonry, i can tell we're beneath the ground to some degree. I can stay here, unless you know of a safer place to hide."
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa inspects the Daggers Spellcraft 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 Spellcraft 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Elsa identifies the dagger as a Dagger of Dispelling not sure what that is
This dagger has some magical properties...
Grint Mavric |
"It's a real oddity for a cult to let a dwarve slave for them making daggers and the sort. It makes them seem more organised than I had initially thought. Don't mind if I do take that greatsword. I admire your craftsmanship master dwarf even though you were imprisoned this is some fine work."
Grint says as he feels the weight and balance of the greatsword in his hands.
"This will do nicely."
GM Chyro |
A dispelling weapon functions like a spell storing weapon, but it may only store dispel magic; however, the caster level check to dispel gains an additional bonus equal to the weapon's enhancement bonus.
Gurin nods.
"Aye, that makes sense. Maybe only prisoners that are useful in any way to them. I'm sorry i cannot be of more help than this."
He notices the symbol around Father Burdock's neck.
"By my grandfather's beard, a cleric of the Forge Father, haha! From what city do you come from?"
Father Burdock |
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Gurin!", Burdock shaking his hand firmly. Upon mentioning his location, Burdock smiles. "Aye, that is my former home! My brother, Turk Kilnborn, is one of the new priests."
Upon the dwarf's insistence of looting the weapons, he can't help but inspect the quality.
Spellcraft @ 1st dagger: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
@GM: I take it they're both +1 daggers with their respective enhancements?
"Such fine craftsmanship; you do the Dwarffather proud, showing such pride even when captive.", Burdock nodding approvingly. "A defending blade; a good defensive armament to be sure. Know who these were supposed to go to?", Burdock commenting on the paired weapons.
Upon the last question, Burdock answers, "I call Kharum my home now. Torag has called to me, that my skills at the forge are needed elsewhere... and what an adventure it has been since being in town.", the dwarf looking at the rest of the party. "But as you can see, there is evil afoot and something leads me to believe that my new home will be threatened if it is not stopped."
When Gurin asks about a safe location, he ponders for a second. "There are some sisters of Irori that have a chapel up above. I can take you to there. We also have a couple of other allies there. I think strength in numbers would be better for you all."
GM Chyro |
Yes.
Gurin shrugs.
"Likely to some important nutjob among them. I've seen a robed figure collect an occasional weapon here."
At the mention of a safe place, he nods.
"Aye, that would be great."
Sabel Ea'tari |
Sabel stays in the background whilst the group talks to the dwarf.
This place reminds me of the past too much. Want to get out of here...
GM Chyro |
Then you're going to love the rest.
So Father Burdock (or all of you), unless decided to just give directions, escorts Gurin to the chapel. He does wonder, why you're walking around with a woman in a straight jacket.

Is it your imagination, or does her collar look a little loose?
Meanwhile;

The eastern door appears to be locked.

No clue whatsoever
Grint tries to budge on the eastern door that's in the party's path.
Strength check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 He bounces back a little and sighs.
"Well this door won't budge easily. Lyssa could you help me with this?"
Father Burdock |
Can't make either of those
What do you mean by eastern door? Has Gurin been dropped off to the chapel at this point and we're trying to explore another door, or are we still in the process of escorting Gurin and this happens? Finally, which door are you referring to being locked?
GM Chyro |
I'm assuming that you had indeed escorted Gurin to the chapel, prior to the current information of the door being locked.
Looking from the map's perspective, the eastern door is the right one at the room with the spiral stairs.
GM Chyro |
Nothing today.....?

Lyssa Kail |

Lyssa takes the lead, and carefully proceeds into the hallway. when she's had a moment to inspect the door, and everyone is is ready for it, Lyssa opens the door.
GM Chyro |
Lyssa sees nothing is in the corridor.
Both she and Grint hear some muffled voices from behind the door.
It's unclear of what is said though.
I 'might' be able to make a post early in the morning, and hopefully we'll hear where the others want to be. Otherwise i'll fill the spots in the order.
Father Burdock |
Burdock will take second.
