GM Chyro |
As far as the crafting is concerned, i'm fine with it.
Tessa & Thorn should have some patience, as a certain destination isn't fit for just the 'two' of you to visit. Unless, of course, they want to be fertilizer ^^.
Thorn Dulani |
Then we sort of have an issue.. Why would our characters NOT want to go there? Why would any adventurer wish to go somewhere unless the world is suddenly going to Coddle us?
GM Chyro |
Oh i'm sure you want to go there, i'll not obstruct, but it's less safe to do so by just the two of you.
Go ahead, it might even make for a fun scouting venture in the 6 days downtime the other three are celebrating.
I'm not going to stop you....
Thorn Dulani |
I dont really see an alternative. We have no linking reason to the other three.. they are getting equipped and all manner of.. things.
So unless you do something along the lines of skipping past that much like the travel they would have gotten back, that is the only mission that seems worth it to gather currency we need. It also seems like a big deal and it doesnt help that BOTH chars have forms of divine power.

Just imagine us as door to door divine servants. I suppose if you think about it, all adventuresome heroes can be thought of that way. KNOCK KNOCK FREEDOM AND GOODNESS WOULD LIKE A WORD.
GM Chyro |
Que the grumpy lich yelling: "I don't buy at the door, SCRAM!"
GM Chyro |
Do Elsa & Grint have any plans for downtime?
You've put Father Burdock to work for the next 6 days.
If people want to do any 'jobs around town' during that time, add 9gp to your cash for day spent working.
You could make diplomacy checks to gather rumors for potential profitable 'field trips'.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa could do with some scrolls....but thats it.
GM Chyro |
I'm not stopping you, buy all the scrolls you want.
GM Chyro |
That was your cue of ambush over and getting aquainted.
Tessa & Thorn, you have now been branded targets, by aiding in the party's defense.
Congratulations on getting involved in matters of ominous doom.
GM Chyro |
Thorn, you're still to fill in your items in the loot sheet.
GM Chyro |
Please update your personal column in the loot sheet.
GM Chyro |
4th of july holiday weekend, right?
Weekends aren't such a big deal, don't worry.
Thorn Dulani |
The whole week really because my Part-time is in the service industry. Normally I have time to sit down and post things like loot in an organized fashion, I generally correct myself.. Today was the start of my actual weekend so I got lucky.
Happy 4th btw.
Grint Mavric |
I'll be off from wednesday the 8th till friday night the 17th of july. I'll probably log back in on the following saturday. Having a small vacation on an island along the coast.
Bot me if needed and please don't get me killed ^^. Good luck!
GM Chyro |
Worry not, it's not a tropical island to miss out on.
GM Chyro |
So I guess this is a field test...
Intended pun?
GM Chyro |
Behave, or i'll put you in the cornfield.
GM Chyro |
Thorn, could you please add the stats above your picture like the others.
GM Chyro |
Father Burdock, you mention that about AC.
Yet i recall Lyssa pumping her AC on lvl 3, granted 4 of that was MA.
She needed crits to be hit as well.
GM Chyro |
Tessa you only took 4 dmg.
The ? was about the crit confirm.
"Tessa" |
Ok.
Re: Know Arcana check: I'm not trying for monster lore, I'm trying to identify materials manufactured by magic. It's a different check with the same skill for a different type of result. Tessa is working out how to go about putting together a scarecrow, not trying to figure out what a scarecrow is. DC is 20+spell level for creation of said thing.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/knowledge
GM Chyro |
Materials....mere straw and stuffings. ^^
It's the spells on it that make it a problem.
"Tessa" |
I'm going to assume a success then and that she knows:
Scarecrow
CL 6th; Price 15,500 gp
CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Craft Construct, command, fear, geas/quest, hypnotic pattern, creator must be caster level 6th; Skill Craft (carpentry), Craft (sculptures), or Profession (farmer) DC 12; Cost 8,000 gp
Which is the result I'd get in PFS.
GM Chyro |
I'm going to have to disagree on her knowing that.
The materials are non magical to start and the magic used to animate it are gone when you slew it.
In no game i've ever played in, do we get the crafting info if we know what construct we'd be dealing with. Knowledge goes as far as its properties and abilities, not the crafting requirements. Particularly if you hadn't identified it as the scarecrow.
As far as you know, it's a straw man-thing that attacked you.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
I really do hope this game never turns into a PFS game.
"Tessa" |
Why exactly is a trained magician unable to use her knowledge of the arcane to work out how a construct is put together?
This is like saying a blacksmith can't figure out how a sword is jointed, or a tailor can't determine how a piece is stitched because they don't recognize the name of the thing.
Constructs are generally understood arcane things, and since tessa clearly didn't recognize this one as one she already understands, it makes perfect sense she'd stop to figure out what she can from it's corpse.
Your ruling, your game, but it's absolutely a house rule and it's a pretty silly one.
Incidentally, you'd enjoy PFS elsa. You can cast light out of combat and it stays up.
GM Chyro |
Elsa is not a consumer of PFS, to put it mildly.
Skill checks topic 'retry' mentions the 1st roll represents what you know of the item/person/topic. Anyone knows a common scarecrow object, but not every arcane caster knows the workings of every construct per sé.
A monk i have has Kn. religion, but he doesn't know everything either.
Combined with non magical materials to perform 'autopsy' on, that leaves nothing to work with.
-------------------------------------------
Anyway, on with the rescue and investigation.
I see Thorn rolled great, but i'm tucking in for the night and posting tomorrow. (later today, technically)
Quick edit: Thanks Thorn.

I loath all things related to organized play(Pathfinder and DnD), always have. It fosters a certain play style that I intensely dislike...

This is valid. Sorry your experiences have been bad, most of mine have been positive. Much like pbp I suppose.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Hey guys,
I have drill this weekend so that means sparser posting, and then only in the evenings from my laptop in the hotel.
Thanks!
GM Chyro |
You three got hit by glitterdust, in case you're wondering if you can do stuff.
Meaning at the end of your turn, you get another roll to get rid of it.
"Tessa" |
Why do you think it's absurd to cast mount in combat? From tessa's point of view this isn't a tavern, it's an enemy stronghold where she's been ambushed. Yes, if she'd failed her save she'd still be blinded, but 'wasting' her action on summoning is less dangerous to her companions than flailing around with her sword from her randomly assigned seating position.
I'm trying to ignore your antagonistic GM style here, please work with me. What's wrong with summoning a horse in a tavern?
GM Chyro |
Hold on the hostility here, calling antagonistic GM style all of a sudden.
Just because i say it sounds absurd to me?
Did i ever say you couldn't summon?
I'm in favor of original stuff, but it's the first time someone starts summoning a horse in a tavern while blind, which is absurd and somewhat funny.
Maybe you didn't notice the '^^' in that sentence. There's absurd in good and bad.
So please hold your horses in getting worked up, where it isn't necessary.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Personally, in my many years of tabletop rpg experience, no one has ever used the spell Mount in combat without some sort of shenanigans in mind...
GM Chyro |
A campaign i'm following has two teams (good and evil) on a rescue mission inside a vampire's lair. Said vampire had kidnapped and vamped the cleric of team evil.
With the vampire loving invisibility, the evil half-orc barbarian (enlarged by wizard) used a rug he took from the floor to use as a net, actually outlining the vampire.
Weird, but inventive cartoon-esque thinking.
He's announced to use his enlarged backpack for something, but i wonder...maybe as an improvised bludgeoning weapon?
GM Chyro |
Bleeding attack adds a 1d4 to an unarmed strike.
If he attacks twice, he'd deals the extra 1d4 on each, as far as i can tell and you bleed just 1d4 on your turn.
But if you can link me something that says otherwise as clarification, i'd thank you for it.
