Karist |
Karist watched as the arrows flew again from the slit and he focused on the slit and in his mind the person behind that. With a quick thought and movement of his hands he mentally punched out at the person on the other side of the slot in the door.
So, I read that as this having to have the person on the other side of the door make a DC 12 save (10+1 plus my level of 1 = 12)
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
As he his mind cleared, he heard a rustling in front of him and watched Enrico push past. "I have had enough of this," Karist heard him say as he pushed past him and down the stairs heading away from the party.
Captain collateral damage |
Not sure if this was clear or not, but PCs don't have to take their turns in initiative order. So thoril you don't have to wait for corath to post before you try to bust down the door (or something).
Karist- Telekinetic fists is a ranged touch attack, not a saving throw. For that you'd roll 1d20+1 (your Dex mod+your BaB, like any ranged attack.). Also, Enrico doesn't have to leave immediatly. In the other PbPs of Emerald Spire I've seen, the GM has just played the character until the group went back to town, at which point they had the Old PC leave and introduced the new PC. Unless you want to have a three man party until you get back... :)
Karist |
And if Enrico doesn't have to leave, and you want to play him that is great....just was trying to work in an "exit stage left" approach!
Captain collateral damage |
Thoril bahses the door down, revealing a large bugbear in a circular room, about 30 feet in diameter, with the emerald spire in the middle. The bugbear wears leather armor, and grabs a moring star from his side. Dropping his bow, he grips the morningstar with two hands, he swings it ferociously at Thoril, who manages to sidestep, before stepping back into the room.
Party's turn
Enrico steps into the room and takes a swing with his falcata, but misses.
Falcata: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Karist |
Karist followed into the room and closed to a point where he could strike with his stout wooden staff. With a quick shift of his shoulders and hands, the staff lunged at the bug bear.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 151d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Thoril Falconbow |
Sorry!
Thoril jumps closer to the bugbear and swing at it with his bare fists.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Karist |
Karist took a moment, steadied himself and swung at the bug bear with his quarterstaff.
His staff struck the beast hard.
Captain collateral damage |
The bugbear swings again at Enrico, this time connecting for a heavy blow.
Party's turn, and I'll assume that you've been taking strategic 5-foot steps to surround and flank the bug bear, so flanking for everyone!
Enrico drops his torch and wields his weapon two-handed for a strong counter-strike, and the bugbear begins to slow.
Falcata: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 251d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Thoril Falconbow |
Thoril laughs. "I had no plans to back down anytime soon."
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Karist |
Karist listened to the banter of his colleagues. But kept his focus on the fiend near him and it's nasty blade. With a rapid thrust of shoulder and arms, he lashed out at the bug bear, trying to take the beast from the side.
Missed, he clenched the staff harder and then readied himself for another strike.
Captain collateral damage |
The bugbear nimbly avoids the party's attacks, then retreats to the far side of the room, back to the wall. Withdraw action, so he only, draws AoOs from, say, Enrico and Karist.
Being injured, Enrico hangs back and hurls a chakram, further wounding the seriously injured bugbear
Falcata ;chakram: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 101d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Karist |
The creature backed away, and Karist seized the opportunity by striking out at the bug bear.
whack, the hardwood staff caught the beast mid step in its retreat.
Captain collateral damage |
The bugbear falls to the ground dead. Congratulations on your first successful combat! Now it's time for loot :) I'm going to assume you use detect magic on everything, and I'll put spellcraft and appraise DCs up
leather armor
composite longbow (+2 str)
Morningstar
ring: faint transmutation
3 garnets
124 gp
Thoril Falconbow |
"Well, that wasn't too bad."
Thoril reaches for the longbow, then checks for any arrows the bugbear may have carried. He then moves to the stairway to keep watch for anything not of their party.
If the door still works he'll close that and use the arrow slit, but I understand if that's not possible due to breaking it on the way in.
Sorry, forgot to actually record the 4 damage I took at the beginning of combat. I've updated that now.
Karist |
Karist nodded in approval as Thoril took the bow, tested it, and took it with him. He looked over the other items and made four small piles with one having the ring, the others having a garnet atop the 31 gold pieces. Already he had more gold than he had ever had in his life.
"Who wants which pile?" He asked aloud. As he looked up from the sorting, he realized that Thoril had taken the brunt of the injuries from the dead guard. "Do you want me to heal those wounds, Thoril?"
Karist |
Karist nods, approaches Thoril humming the melody that he was taught some years ago by Calipha who had adopted him. He concentrated as as he felt the energy surge up and around him. As he neared Thoril, his melody audible, he blew into his right hand and drew it down and across the dwarf's shoulder.
A slight breeze like sensation followed his movements at first slowing the bleeding that then stopped as flesh and skin laced itself back together. A thin newly healed scar could be seen.
Thoril Falconbow |
"Ah, thanks, Karist. That feels much better."
In response to Corath, "Mind if I claim it? Walking in front as I do, it may come in handy if we encounter any unexpected traps."
Karist |
"Then take it Thoril," Karist said with a nod. "I'll take one of these piles with a stone for my reward. So, should we look about and see where a door might be in this room?"
Karist |
Karist looked about the room, and then walked about it again looking closely to see if there might be another entrance, trap door, or something of the like.
Karist |
"Well, Thoril, maybe you should try this passage and we meet you down where this comes out?" Karist shrugged as they looked at the passage. "We can head back down to where we had a few different paths to choose from."
Thoril Falconbow |
"It's probably better we stick together, actually. I don't want to think what I could run into alone - another bugbear could cause me quite a bit 'o trouble."
Let's proceed down the stairs in standard marching order.
Karist |
"Yea, yea," he nodded his head in agreement with the dwarf, "lead on my friends, lead on.
Karist walked towards the door and followed his colleagues back down the steps that they had rushed not that long ago.
Karist |
"Then that one it is," Karist nodded in agreement when they returned to the bottom of the stairs and were facing the three doors. "Lead on Corath, lead on."
Captain collateral damage |
Sorry, the single doors are to the North, east and south. Assuming that doesn't change anything.
A plush, human sized bed stands in this chamber, along with a table holding a bone scroll tube and jars filled with eyeballs, claws and teeth. Various metal clockwork pieces lie scattered around.
Karist |
The room was a sleeping chamber. Karist walked over to the bone scroll tube and took it into his hands and peered in to see if there was anything in it.
Karist |
Karist shook his head as he looked at the unknown symbol. He rolled the scroll up, slipped it back into the tube, and waived it aloft. "We may need to look at this later, but I would say we need to move on to another door."
Captain collateral damage |
This curing room is a good-sized kitchen, complete with decaying tables, cupboards and bins. One newer table has what seems like a child's laboratory set up, with broken cups standing in for beakers. Some sort of clockwork/magic construct, green and about the size of a human, stands in the room. It appears to have been haphazardly made, with a face drawn on it and missing a arm and leg, which are replaced with a what appears to be a human arm and a wood peg leg. Behind it crouches a goblin armed with a falchion, who mutters a brief prayer while clutching a holy symbol.
Party init: Karist, Thoril, Corath, Enrico: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 181d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 141d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
All party can go.
Enrico rushes in swinging at the strange construct, landing a solid hit.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 201d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Corath |
Not wanting his companion to be alone on the frontline, Corath takes a brief moment to examine the construct before running in to bring his sword to bear against it with both hands.
Knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Two-handed Longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Captain collateral damage |
You're not really sure what it is. It's definitely a magical construct, and you have heard rumors about green "emerald automatons" from the Emerald Spire, but they're supposed to be fully complete. It's possible that the goblin found it broken and attempted to repair it. The emerald automatons are resistant to non-adamantine weapons, and radiate electricity when severly damaged.
Karist |
When Enrico raced forward, Karist hummed a melody and blew across his oak quarterstaff when the melody came to an end. A breeze twirled about his staff.
He smiled as he felt the oaken staff harden and moved towards the goblin.
Thoril Falconbow |
Thoril leaps forward to assist Enrico and Corath. He makes an effort to get into flanking position with whoever it's easiest to flank with, and swings his fist.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 +2 flanking? I don't think it'll help, though.
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
