Man, that's a really good question! I mean, I've never thought about the difference between "mundane" healing and magic healing. I know a potion of healing would actually harm her if she swallowed it, but what about just bandages, salves, ointments, tinctures... Mundane stuff? That's going to have to be up to Stormstrider.

From what I've read, and I think we discussed it with Alex, Stormy's NPC oracle, earlier, mundane healing should work the same for Tam as it does everyone else.

Good call! Heal skill has nothing to do with positive/negative energy, so it ought to work just fine.

Kairon holds up a restraining hand as Guiness readies to advance. Hold on a few moments more! Since Boudacia seems nervy, still, I may as well tend my own hurts, too. And quick as a flash, the medic dresses a few wounds on his left arm and torso. He casts his eyes over to Boudacia every now and then as he works, as though to say: See? Totally trustworthy. "Physician, heal thyself."

I doubt we will surprise them, but we know they are there and we are ready for battle. I can’t remember how you wanted to handle the whole “readied actions outside of combat” thing.

Upon hearing Guiness's readiness to advance, Kairon renews the light on his spearpoint with a murmured Φως, and squares his feet to move. Ready. The priest casts an inquiring glance in Boudacia's direction once more, but chooses to leave the matter of tending her hurts alone, for now.

As Brother Guiness prepares to open the door, he notices that there is a chunk of masonry seemingly in place to keep the door from closing all the way. He opens the door and sees:

"This large room has a wide hole in the center of its floor. What appears to be a heavy, welded steel ladder descends straight down from the lip of this shaft. The extent and depth of the space below are concealed behind the many crisscrossing, whitish-gray spider webs filling the pit."

He also notices 2 of the giant spiders lurking in corners of the room.

Since BG heard more spiders than the two seen when opening the door, he will in all likelihood do a perception check at the start of his turn before moving into the room (specifically looking for spiders hiding on either side of the door or hiding on the ceiling above to ambush anyone who comes in the door). I know it is not his turn yet, so I will wait...

Knowing that, again, the best thing Aldhranhald can offer to the battle is information, he wracks his brain for bits and pieces of lore about spiders that have the ability to cast spells, if there even are any.

Not sure what knowledge to roll here, so I'm just going to roll them all, and let Stormstrider sort out the details. :) My Monster Lore ability allows me to add my Wisdom bonus on top of my normal Knowledge skill bonuses when attempting to identify monsters and their abilities/weaknesses.

Aldhranhald seems to remember vaguely having read about some rare spiders called "Moon Spiders" that besides the typical poisons & webs so common to spiders, also have some spell-like ability to cast Obscuring Mist and Gaseous Form. Also their webs seem to be more resistant to blunt and piercing damage than other webs. (DR5/slashing) = Your welcome. :-)

The group stares in horror as two more of these gigantic spiders crawl up from the hole in the floor right in front of Brother Guiness and Gansu and proceed to spray webs at them!

Spider Yellow web touch attack on BG: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Spider Green web touch attack on Gansu: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

And suddenly both fighters find themselves entangled - and you are "tethered by an opposing force". You do get Reflex saves to try to get out of the webs, or Str checks to try to break them, or you can try cutting them.

I think Sama's held action is triggered by the spiders coming up out of the hole into her visual range...

"Not the webs again!" thinks Brother Guiness, as the sticky strands make contact with his body. Trying to shake off the webs before they can entangle him, BG tries to decide if he should draw his trusty battleaxe to better cut through the webbing, or pull his magic Warhammer that would be better at crushing spiders...

BG Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Unable to shake off the webs before they entangle him (assuming a 10 reflex save is not good enough), BG decides to take his chances just bashing the nasty critters. Besides, Gansu has the big blade, right?

BG draws his magic Warhammer and attempts to slam it into the green spider directly in front of him!

BG Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 2 = 20 (includes -2 for Entangled)

Held action to tumble into the room if the fog goes away. Until then, she's not much use. I don't think she can even use Aid Another unless she's adjacent? Not sure on that one. If she doesn't have to be adjacent, she'll use Aid Another to give Gansu a bonus to hit.

DC 17 Will Save to avoid 3 rounds of blindness. Sorry I can't find the 10' radius template. I am going to center the spell 10 feet into the room, right in front of the middle of the door. That should get the 2 spiders engaging my friends, some empty room and some of the area with the obscuring mist, so with luck I will get another spider of 2.

Tamlara, I think the DR/Slashing is just for the webs, not the spiders themselves. If it is for both, then BG just drew the wrong weapon!

I'm going to post two different actions so we can advance as easily as possible. This is the critical criterion: if Kairon can attack with his longspear through allied squares at no penalty, he will do so; if not, then he'll go with option two.

Two saves against each entanglement? I got a web thrown at me before (my last save was a 13). Does that mean I save twice for that web and twice for the new one? Here goes:

Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

I don't know the DC here but those are mostly good... If I was already entangled from before then I get a -2 to those saves.

Gansu struggles with the webs and then swings his nodachi at the injured spider.

I've had GMs that ignored the standard penalty for melee reach weapons (the reasoning being tied to the concept of "moving through allied spaces is free", and the historical factors of the Greek phalanx), and GMs that strictly enforced it. Though I think I know which way Stormstrider's gonna call it, I'm always one to float an option at least once. :)

There is a feat called phalanx formation that allows you to ignore soft cover from allies when you use a reach weapon...

Kairon, First of all. I have no problem with dual options posts like that, especially if they help speed up the game! Matter of fact I like people being smart & posting like that. All of you! Feel free to make optional posts like Kairon's. Please just be sure to make them very clear like Kairon did.

Secondly, I would apply the -4 to the attack like Gansu mentioned. What you say about the Greek phalanx is very true, but they also went through many, many, many years of very strict training. Kairon has not had that much training as a warrior as of yet. Since I am at work I can't currently read the description of the feat that BG posted, but I would most likely allow that, which would be a 'representation' of the time training for that.

Gansu, I apologize for my faulty wording on the saves there. I meant to say two saves, one for each entanglement. Thank you for your diplomatic handling of my error there. Having said that, you had already rolled tyour first reflex save earlier, even though it was not your turn yet. I am going to ignore that first one you had done when it was not your turn (it was a fail! - you're welcome!) and take the first two saves you have on your most recent post. You make it, so no negatives, just the bonus from Kairon. Fair enough?

Both the green and the yellow spiders are glittery. Though it is much more difficult to tell on the green one since it is also split in two and very much covered in grayish/greenish ... blood? ichor? If you go back and read the attack post, it was actually the yellow one that webbed you. The green one had tried to web Gansu. So you are still entangled & “tethered by an opposing force”

The one spider left at the doorway (Yellow spotted one) Will try to move backward into the hole & pull the dwarf with him ...

Spider's CMB vrs BG's CMD: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Not sure on rules here: I'm thinking for a simple success, it gets to drag BG 5 ft? And for every 5 on the roll above the target CMD, another 5 ft. Seem fair & reasonable?

The Spider moves back 5 ft going over the edge into the hole, dragging the dwarf closer to the hole.

This would of course provoke an AoO from Gansu! Feel free to go ahead Gansu! This happens as the Spider starts to move away, so BG would NOT be in your way.

Totally right, Stormstrider. I had just assumed that the spiders directly in front of us were the ones throwing the webs, but the rolls show they attacked diagonally -- tricky beasts!. And it got BG's CMD by 4 when you include the -2 for entangled, so super-close to being pulled 10 feet!

BG will wait for his turn to see what happens with the attacks of opportunity first...
