Brother Guiness glances around, seeing people preparing for battle but not moving to open the door.

They must be waiting for me to open the door, I suppose. Ah, well, I'd better get to it.

After checking to make sure the group is ready, BG moves up to the (second) secret door and opens it, saying "After you, Gansu..."

Boudacia reverts to bat form and, accompanied by Wayne, moves up behind Brother Guiness to be ready for action when he opens the door.

I have not scribbled on the map for this. The ground has been trod over before and I am flying, so no need. Yes?

Correct!

Brother Guiness opens the door and steps back a little, fully expecting a battle!

BG Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

The rest of you are to far back to see properly between the combination of the 2 secret doors.

Brother Guiness sees:

A curving wall of glowing green crystal bulges out into this chamber from one corner. A stout wooden table stands along the wall opposite it. On the table, among other clutter of various tools and things, lie three rotting human corpses and the remnants of a large spider (medium size creature).

One of the human corpses has had all of its extremities severed, and its torso has been opened to reveal the internal organs. Another dismembered corpse has spider legs sewn onto the stumps in place of the removed limbs, all of which are neatly arranged near the rest of the spider's corpse.

A bucket full of reeking, old blood sits on the floor under the table, and needles with lengths of silken thread attached are stuck in a hand-sized block of bloodstained wax atop the table.

Gansu steps carefully into the room.

"What the devil went on in this place?"

He looks around for a moment.

Then, (assuming nothing jumps out at us) he murmurs something, and his eyes begin to softly glow.

Casting detect magic.

Gansu sees nothing different at first, but once he casts his spell he does see 2 small vials and a scroll tube on the table glowing slightly. He then looks towards the other side of the room, towards the large glowing green-glass rock wall that draws his eyes towards it with its magical aura.

The wall, it glows, it is so beautiful! so mesmerizing! such a magical glow as you have not seen before! And suddenly Gansu realizes the glow is so bright, so strong, the pain! THE PAIN! He suddenly realizes he may never see again!

Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

But he can't seem to tear his eyes away from it!

Gansu finally manages to tear his gaze away from the wall and he can see again. The Detect magic spell is gone.

As smarty-pants-taking-20-ruins-all-my-fun :P ;) Aldhranhald looks closely around the room, at first he sees nothing special, until he glances upwards to the ceiling. He realizes that just ahead of them, cleverly concealed in the ceiling there are some sort of panels, and then he studies the floor below them more carefully and he realizes there are four sections all together that are some sort of pressure plates directly under those ceiling panels. Now marked on the map.

As he then tries to understand what has been happening in this room, his best guess is that someone has been experimenting with the idea of creating undead creatures and also trying to mix them with other body parts. I know, DUH! but it's really all I got. And really? No knowledge religion or nature while you're at it? ;) :P

Tamlara does NOT detect any undead.

EDIT: One moment ... I posted this and realized I need to check some info, one moment pls.

2nd EDIT: My mistake. Pls read the following for Tamlara.

Tamlara at first detects nothing, and certainly not on the table as some may have suspected, but she feels the spell drawing at her and as she gazes up towards the ceiling she does detect two identical auras ... ??? ... in the ceiling? in the same area those panels are in? She is very confused by this.

She continues studying the auras a moment longer and comes to the conclusion that they are both very faint auras.

With Tamlara there to aid, Aldhranhald discusses the mechanism of the trap with her and then, standing where they both believe they'll be safe in case their disabling actually triggers the trap, he works carefully with her to disable it.

Okay I know this is awfully metagame, but I'm hoping to get an Aid from Tamlara on the trap, which was the reason for the lengthy description of working closely with her. If she successfully aids (she'd have to roll a 2 or 1 not to help), the total of the disable check will be 18. Unless of course the GM is in a good mood and wants to see what Tamlara rolls first, and then, if hers is higher than mine, allow my score to aid her??? :D Also, extremely intrigued by the undead she's detecting in the ceiling.

Without disturbing the trap-disarming efforts, Gansu goes over to approximately under where Tamlara indicates there are undead auras. He hoists his blade and uses the long handgrip to brace it pointing upwards.

"I usually use the edge of this blade, but the point is also sharp.
If anything comes out, they will discover this."

A nodachi has the brace property. I am assuming that dropping out of the ceiling onto someone would count as a "vertical charge" so I am bracing my weapon to receive this charge attack.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! :O :O :O Literal LOL! I NEEDED that! Thank you so much! :D To the tune of raindrops falling on my head right? - Yeah, I HAVE to give bonus XP for that one! 100 XP! Did that just come to you naturally or did you have to think on it and if so how long?

*******************************************************************

Gansu, Do you understand the trigger for this trap are the pressure plates in the floor that you just walked onto while they are working on them? Also, you didn't position your icon so I did that for you. I realize you did not know where the auras were. Now technically, I think either Aldy or Tammy would/could stop Gansu, but I know there is really not any serious danger here, AND I have to do something for someone choosing to walk into a trapped area, so ...

Tamlara sees the last wire she needs to cut to finish disarming this trap, but she and Aldhranhald are so focused on disarming the pressure plates in the floor, that they don't notice Gansu walking forward and stepping out onto those pressure plates!

Just as they both yell for Gansu to stop, they hear a "click" and suddenly the panels in the ceiling drop open!

Everyone sees a cage falling from the ceiling! Strangely enough there seem to be two skeletons in it?!?!

Reflex Save Rolls:

Aldhranhald Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Tamlara Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Gansu having chosen to stand there and wait for something to fall and bracing his nodachi, I am going to rule auto-fails or chooses not to take the reflex save.

The cage is open on the bottom, so as to trap potential victims inside with the skeletons! The skeletons are suspended in leather harnesses, so as to protect them during the fall. We will simply use the white dashes from the trap mark to represent the cage.

Tamlara just barely gets out of the way of the cage, while Aldranhald does it easily enough, but Gansu gets trapped inside with the two skeletons!

Attack of the falling cage\skeleton: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Falling damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9

To be clear, this is not an attack by the skeleton! This is just the potential of taking damage from the cage falling on you. So 9 damage. Gansu now finds himself sorta entangled with the red skelly that fell on him, we'll sort that out in my next post. Gansu, go ahead and roll your attack and double damage for bracing. Since you were bracing you will be attacking the red one.

After his attack we go into initiatives!

Initiative Rolls:

Aldhranhald Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Boudacia Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Brother Guiness Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Gansu Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Sama Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Tamlara Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Blue Skelly Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Red Skelly Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 1:
Blue Skelly

Followed by:

Block 2
Tamlara, Brother Guiness, Aldhranhald.

Block 3
Red Skelly

Block 4
Sama, Boudacia, Gansu.

I'm going to go ahead and post Blue Skelly's attack to save time. Scratch that. Gansu's attack may cause something different to happen. Basically I did roll it out and Blue killed Red! Hahahaha! But since Gansu's attack may do that I better wait! I will retcon it to that if red survives Gansu.

It does look fairly heavy. VERY difficult if your trying to do it alone, easier, though still heavy, with help. Bars look fairly solid. Bendable? The bars may not be as close to each other as they should be? Squeeze through? - Ideas. Thrown out. At random. To think about. ... DM in a weird mood? Possibly very tired from all the OT? BG is pretty wide, especially in armor, so I think he will just go for a swing in between the bars with his axe on his turn...it worked better on the zombies than his warhammer, right? Note, I am away from my computer this weekend, so I will need help having BG's icon moved when his turn comes up.

Gansu, Do you understand the trigger for this trap are the pressure plates in the floor that you just walked onto while they are working on them?...

I thought it would be clear that I was going to do so without stepping on the trap from this statement:

Gansu Kaichuta wrote:
Without disturbing the trap-disarming efforts,...

However, since we have gone ahead, can I use my readied attack (from the brace action) to attack the cage as it falls (like an attack against an inanimate object)?

Battle Grid ***** Treasure Chart ***** Emerald Spire Skills

Gansu, yes, I saw that statement, which I took like it says, 'not disturbing them', but it was this statement that made go the way I did:

Gansu wrote:
approximately under where Tamlara indicates there are undead auras.

In order to be under them, you would have to walk into the trap area. I debated asking for clarification, but at the same time I know this does not seriously put you in danger (the falling cage damage was the biggest threat and it is over with) and I thought this would be a lot more fun for everybody instead of - the trap gets disarmed, and you all never find out what it was. *** That said, if you want to attack the cage, yes, you can, but that makes no sense to me. The cage is made of iron. 1 inch bars. Overcoming that hardness is going to be tough enough and then it has a LOT more HP than the two skeletons combined! Put it this way, if you hit a skeleton for a minimum damage roll of 1, so 7 total, after overcoming it's DR 5/bludgeon, so you do 2 damage, it will only have 2 HP left. They have 4HP! Just kill em!

"What the-"

Gansu thrusts at the Skeleton as it falls towards him.

Nodachi: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

I doubt that is a hit, even if they count as charging and are flat-footed at the same time. :(

"Blast! All right, you old bones! Let the cage match begin!"

Gansu touches a hand to his head where the skeleton struck him.

Healer's Way (lay on hands): 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Swift action to lay on hands. If I am allowed to take a 5' step I will also move to the northeastern square of the cage.

Tamlara: FYI Sneak attack works fine against undead. There might be a penalty to hit through the bars but your sneak attack die could bring your damage over their DR.

Gansu swings his Nodachi at the skeleton, but is too startled by the whole dropping cage to hit anything. He then steps out from 'under' the skeleton hanging in the leather harness.

The skeleton to the north then swings both it's claws at Gansu as Gansu is extricating himself from the other skeleton.

This is where I am going to retcon the attack that I had rolled earlier for the blue skelly, so I won't actually roll the dice again, I'm going to post the final numbers he rolled before instead.

Blue Skelly's first attack rolls a 16 misses Gansu, but slams into the other skeleton! He rolls a 1d4 + 2, getting a total of 5 bludgeoning damage. The skeleton to the south crumbles to the ground!

His second attack rolls a 17 however does hit Gansu.

damage (I don't have this one written down): 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Sama, Somehow magically suddenly jumping ahead of 3 other party members waves a hand in the air but she never chose a target for the spell (Please remember to specify which hostile is your target/s!) so the spell fizzles in mid-air. She missed anyways to be clear, I'm just being a little more narrative and trying to emphasize 'choose your targets' in a nice way.

Brother Guiness then steps up and he manages to take very careful aim and swing his axe at exactly the right angle to get through the bars! His axe smashes into the skeleton and while it becomes obvious to him that hs axe is not 'cutting' into the skeleton like it does on other targets, he still manages to smash the skeleton and make it crumble to the ground! (DR5/Bludgeoning, but only a total of 4 HP, you got exactly what you needed!)

Tamlara, what Gansu says about sneak attack vrs undead is true in Pathfinder! As crazy as that seems to me, but, that's RAW.

Now, for reasons, we are still in initiative!

Seeing both skellys crumble to the ground, everybody starts to relax thinking the immediate danger is over with, when suddenly, the pile of bones in the southern corner suddenly stirs, rising up outside the cage to take on a human shape. Its long, bony fingers reach out to claw at the living!

1st claw attack at Aldhranhald!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
2nd claw attack at Aldhranhald!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

But the skelly was still off balance from the sudden move and totally misses!

Maybe Gansu and BG should do ALL their attacks going in between the bars of a cage? They both did so much better when making an extremely difficult strike! :D ;) :P

Gansu takes a step to the south so he can reach the 'remaining' skelly, which is RED by the way. Please use the colors to specify your targets. Otherwise I may have to make a post asking you to clarify and then I have to wait for a reply or else I have to make the decision for ya and we end up with a misunderstanding, yada, yada, yada ... and swings his Nodachi almost as if the cage was not even there! He swings down with his sword slicing the skeleton clear in two and then on his upswing he slices one of those sections into two more sections! The bones crumble to the ground, and do not stir again ... for now?

But suddenly the Skelly to the North starts stirring again and he suddenly rises into human shape outside the cage!

Whose he going to attack? Going counterclockwise from North to South = 1d4

Target chooser for first attack!: 1d4 ⇒ 3 Boudacia!

Blue Skelly's attack on Boudacia!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

And he strikes her dealing damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Target chooser for second attack!: 1d4 ⇒ 3 Boudacia again!!!

Blue Skelly's attack on Boudacia!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

And he strikes her again dealing another damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

8 points total damage to Boudacia!

BG & Aldy each get a flanking bonus! And if Gansu steps over then he and Tammy - or he and Boudacia - can get it also!
