Luther attacks again.
flail: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d100 ⇒ 73

Keeping us moving along as the next hit on the Necrophidius will drop it – going to assume Drusellia delays until she can see something.

Luther’s flail crashes into the dry bones of his foe – whatever manner of beast it is, it is now struggling to stay in the fight…

GM Only:
Necrophidius = 5/42HP

Looming out of the mist once more, it snaps at Luther… this time, its jaws clasp the Abadarian’s wrist and Luther feels the warmth of blood pouring from a deep bite…

Necrophidius, Bite vs Luther: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26, hitting for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 plus Paralysis

Symon is dazed for 2 more rounds.

Brent, Armitron, Drusellia and, dependent upon Fortitude Save, Luther may act now.

Mace Attack Flank as it just struck Luther1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Mace Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Miss? 1d100 ⇒ 60

As Luther is attacked, Armitron steps forwards and swings his weapon in an upward arc… the bludgeoning end of the mace crashes into the head of the necrophidius and, with a cracking sound like a snapping twig, detaches the skull from its spine… As the skull arcs across the room, smashing on the wall behind Symon, the rest of the bones collapse back into the fire pit.

Combat Over.

Luther hardly looks at his injury. "Let's move on."

The door to the east is the only exit from this room, leaving the troglodytes and the skeletal abomination behind them, Symon confirms the door is safe to open and the friends are able to move on… the corridor beyond is plunged into darkness – illuminated by the flames in the fire pit, it heads east for fifteen feet or so before turning to the south and into darkness… At the corner where it changes direction, an iron door leads from the corridor… warm to the touch, the sound of clanging metal is clearly audible through the door…

"Armitron, this is how angels get around." Luther says with a wink.

fly:

The subject can fly at a speed of 60 feet (or 40 feet if it wears medium or heavy armor, or if it carries a medium or heavy load). It can ascend at half speed and descend at double speed, and its maneuverability is good. Using a fly spell requires only as much concentration as walking, so the subject can attack or cast spells normally. The subject of a fly spell can charge but not run, and it cannot carry aloft more weight than its maximum load, plus any armor it wears. The subject gains a bonus on Fly skill checks equal to 1/2 your caster level.

Luther casts longstrider on Symon too (+20' movement speed) to help Symon rush in and get a good flanking position.

Drusellia's whispered suggestion about this being a forge ring true as Symon silently opens the door and, without noise, slips into the room beyond…

…as the door is opened, a wave of heat floods out – inside the room, a huge stack of barrels is positioned in the north east corner whilst, towards the south, a hot glow of magma comes from a slowly moving pool – and, adjacent to it, a great anvil being worked at by a snake-bodied humanoid figure. Spines of crackling flame dance along the creature’s blackened, fiery-red scales…

Knowledge (Planes) DC16:
This is a Salamander – native to the plane of fire, they are feared for their war-like temperament. A typical salamander lair would have a temperature of several hundred degrees – they can tolerate lower temperatures, but are even more short-tempered than normal in such environments.

Symon – whilst the corridor is unlit and, heading southwards, becomes lost in the dark – the room containing the forge is well lit. There are brass torches in sconces across the wall and, towards the south of the room, the glow from the magma pool provides a fierce red light…

Combat Over

Looking around the room, it seems that the salamander was in the process of working on a number of falchions – all being forged to the same design as those used by the troglodytes… and none, in their current state, worth more than the material value of the metal used. More interestingly, by far, is a highly polished breastplate resting near the anvil; intertwined serpents are expertly etched into its surface and a cursory examination of its aura confirms that it is magical - a faint transmutation aura swirling around it…

It is a Spellcraft DC20 to identify the properties of the Breastplate.
