Braxus would have cast shield and stowed his wand before teleportation into an unknown area, but other than that, he is flat footed. He would purchase two doses of barbarian chew, even though I can only use one in a 24 hour period. Won't be using it yet, but I would like to have it on me. Anxiously awaiting my turn.

As the team recovers, a sound is heard from behind them. Looking over shoulders, the team can now see exactly WHY the elves are so terrified.

From between the trees crawls the biggest centipede any of them have ever seen, bigger than some dragons. It's massive mandibles crunching through tree bark like paper as it rears itself into the air, letting out a roar. Wrapped around several of it's many legs seems to be several belts and cloaks marked with the uprooted tree. It keeps coming... and coming... smashing everything out of its way before it continues over the pathfinders like a stampede!

He lets loose a roar and takes a chance to swing his weapon as a form of defense. Unsure if the weapon even connects, the impact of the beast wrecks him, but despite this his rage dulls the pain and he manages to let loose with a violent series of attacks.

GOZREH'S BEARD, WHAT IS THAT CRIT? O.o That is... a LOT of damage... and all good aligned to...

Braxus is slammed into, and the great monster of a man slams back with hammer, driving it up and over his body as it twists around to try and face the thing who's good align weaponry burns it's skin and cracks it's armor. The blows lift it up into the air with ear wrenching "CRACKS!" as the thing lets out a guttural scream. It collapses onto the Ulfen, covering him completely, and for a moment there is silence before the great beast is lifted up slightly, and Braxus crawls out, covered head to toe in centipede gore.

COMBAT ENDS, PATHFINDERS ARE VICTORIOUS!

The elves look at each other, and the captain steps forward, calling down from the craig.

HAIL! I AM CEILLIA, ACTING LEADER OF THE UPROOTERS! I HOPE YE BE FRIEND, AND PERHAPS A FORGIVING ONE AT THAT?

She hops down, nimbly landing at the base of the outcropping. Brushing herself off, she points at the centipede.

That beast and it's friends have been chasing us for 3 days straight... they finally cut off our last hiding spot, killed 3, and took 4 captives, including our captain. We've been on the run since...

She looks at the ones shot, noticing her own arrow in the ulfen and wincing.

Again, sorry about that... tired minds make easy tricks. They tried several times to disguise demons as our "Rescuers" and ambush us.

Beauty of a x3 weapon and rage, and thanks for the haste and bardsong!

Letting the fury loose from his heart, a wave of fatigue floods through him. Despite this he nods to Pandora as he steps between the archers and her, suddenly protective of the bard.

"Fighting demons and witches and honoring Cayden with nearly every breath helps grow a body strong." he says with a grin.
"You'll have to finish that song another time."

Looking the elves over, he nods in understanding. "Damned things, demons. Pay no mind to a little blood letting between friends, and be sure the arrow was the least of my concern once I saw that thing." he says jerking his thump to the monstrous corpse.

EDIT adding in his own wand use. 3 charges of infernal healing coupled with the cure light wounds from Pandora puts him back to full. How hurt is everyone after that? I will offer a charge off my wand for everyone that needs it. Looks like Lore, Dai, Fen and I where the only ones in its square.

I thought we had been completely abandoned.... when we found the trail markings saying any further missions into the tanglebriar where abandoned, we figured we'd been left for dead. Odd that the General would be willing to let non-elves in, but I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth.

As she talks the other elves climb down, and begin retrieving belts and cloaks from the things limp legs. Cecilla glowers as they do, spitting to the side.

Yeah, friends, the bastard demon Fihralaz. He's a Hezrou, and it's just his style to send us back our dead and captured's things to toy with us. Even the captain's magic belt. It wasn't to long ago, maybe half a day at most. I can sketch you a quick map to the area, and I'll take my men the last of the journey home.... now that we're out of the tanglebriar proper, It shouldn't be to hard.

She calls out to one of her men who runs up and passes her a pack and a belt with the uprooters symbol on the buckle. She hands the pack over to Lore.

If your gonna help the captain, the least we can do is offer you what aid we can. Take his belt and our left over supplies.

@ Pandora,

Hezrous general knowledge:
The hezrou dwells in the vast Abyssal swamps, mires, and waterways, equally at home on land and in the water. The presence of a hezrou has an obvious effect on the nearby flora and water, causing plant life to twist and knurl and infusing water with a foul odor and brackish taste—signs much easier to spot on the Material Plane than the Abyss. Long exposure to this corruption can cause vile transformations and hideous deformities. Often, entire backwater communities of deformed mutants owe their twisted countenances not as much to incest and poor breeding as they do to a hezrou’s proximity.

Although quite intelligent, a hezrou can fairly be said to waste its intellect. They prefer the simple pleasures—slumber, the thrill of torture, the bliss of feasting on a living meal, or the joy of feeling something beautiful breaking and crumbling in a clenched fist. They do not often seek to build empires or lead cults—although few hezrous would turn away prospective minions who came to serve the demon on their own.

These monstrous and bestial creatures form from the souls of evil mortals who poisoned themselves, their kin, or their surroundings, such as drug addicts, assassins, and alchemists who cared not how their experiments polluted the environment.

Like many demons, the Hezrou is resistant to cold, fire, and ice, completely immune to electricity and poisons, and very difficult to penetrate with spells. Touching them is also a very bad idea, as the terrible muck they have tends to cause terrible sicknesses.

@Lore they are happy to tell you what the belt does, no problems there.

After finishing any questions for the elves, the team treks into the tanglebriar. Tanglebriar is aptly named not only because the dense plant growth hinders movement but also because much of that growth secretes dangerous poisons or is covered in horrifyingly cruel thorns. The entire team is bitten, scratched, or worse. Even vermin repellent doesn't seem to keep the tainted bugs away, and does nothing against the horrible thorns, oils, and worse from the plant life. The branches of trees in Tanglebriar are thick with leaves that block out most light. The forest is so thick that it takes all the teams effort just to keep moving forward, and they are all slowed dramatically.

Everyone, please give me 2 fortitude saves and 1 survival check to keep from getting lost.

Fairly certain we are going the right direction. This would have been easier if they sent one of their scouts along with us. They have patrolled this region for centuries after all. Maybe they are not quite so keen to have their missing members returned? Hmm...Perhaps the elves were not all they seemed to be. We were rushed off to find the missing members, but what is all this is a trap. If all the Uprooters have been compromised, then the ones we left behind want us to fail. We must operate assuming have no allies here beyond The Society.

Fendel leads them through the forest with map and wayfinder with supreme skill, though his mind seems to be stuck in his own thoughts. His analytic mind reviews the reactions of the elves, and narrows in on the micro expressions given by them. Surprise and elation at rescue, terror as they spoke about the fiend, a conflict that almost felt like they expected to be asked to help, but where scared of being asked. The visible relief as the team walked away into the tanglebriar. Would have been hard to fake all of that. Then there was the injuries. The Uprooters all had some sort of damage, cuts, wounds, barely staunched and badly wrapped with hurried field dressing. They likely wouldn't have had the strength to be of much use.

Of course, as they had said themselves, demons where tricky and their ability to disguise themselves near flawlessly would have sold the ruse rather well. It was a possibility to keep in mind.

Dailung: 1d4 ⇒ 4

As Dailung tries to squeeze around two trees, she turns to look at her companions, shouting out to Fendel to watch where he's going as well as the map. As she turns away, a needle as big as a spike tears into her arm. Adding to her frustration, she could have sworn that needle hadn't been there before she turned.... Before she can react, grasping black corruption flows into her body, and she can feel herself weaken, her muscles feeling like pudding. Having dealt with things like this before, she knows that the damage is done, but she would have to be careful as she went.... Dailung, you take 4 strength damage.

He glances around, but finding nothing of note, he merely shrugs his large shoulders and continues on. The trek through Tanglebriar weaves between trees drawn into moaning visages whose cracked bark sweats black sap. Tortured howls punctuate the constant buzzing of bloodred flies, and at times the ground itself seems to spasm as if alive. Approximately a mile from Mount Armiya, a twisting briar patch of arm-thick vines with thorns like armor spikes impedes further travel south, leaving only narrow gaps that a creature might step through.

The elves marked the briar patch... judging by the map, the thing might be about a mile and a half across, but even thicker and more dangerous than before. Going around is certainly possible, but would be double the distance to cover. At least the light is better here for the moment, as all the leaves have been strangled by the thorns.... if any of you had flight, you could even conceivably fly right over it...

Fendel:
Would have had to approach stealthily in the first place, assign a scout to go ahead and stealth, ect. Even then, he can fail his spot check, since he takes some massive distance penalties (But starts with a +32, so even at the massive distance he still has a +11 to spot you) in which case he's only triggered if you fly and alert him.

I tried to give you as much chance as possible.... a mile is 5280 feet. You just moved 800 in. :(

Severely underestimating the distance across of the briar patch, Pandora teleports 2/3rds of their team 800 feet... right into the middle of the briar patch. They pop into existence, falling right into the poison barbs and clawing plants.

Pandora, Dailung, Lore, and Jewels must make a fortitude save DC 14 or take strength damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1. You also take 25 points of damage, reduced by your armor rating of armor worn, and a survival check. You will then need another survival to find your way out, either by going back or going forward, to not get lost, and I'll need another Fort save DC 14 and Survival against the damage of 25.

Braxus and Fendel hear their comrades poof from existance... and then very unhappy shouting someway into the briar patch.
