Elena D'augustino |
Elena draws her sword, and motions awkwardly at the tree with it.
"Ladies and gentlemen, should I order a charge on a tree? Is there precedent for that, like with an army of dispossessed lumberjacks or something?"
The challenges of command.
Riswynn Clanless |
"Commander? Perhaps we can lure out whatever's in there. I can try to get its attention from range."
Riswynn points her free hand toward the charred tree, a small ball of acid being called into existence. She looks toward the noble expectantly, ready to release the acid with an arcane syllable.
If Elena gives the go ahead, Riswynn casts acid splash on the tree.

Corrected my post! Sorry, it was Pathfinder muscle memory. :P
Lord Borak the Despoiler |
Borak chuckles, deeply. "An excellent choice, my dear cobra commander."
The more I play this guy the more he reminds me of Destro. >.<
He takes a few steps back and lets loose an Eldrich blast at the tree. He has no idea if this will have an effect, but he hasn't tried to kill anything all day and really should stay in practice.

The twin blasts of magic hammer into the tree, smashing it apart like wet parchment. Splinters fly from it, embedding themselves in and around everything. From the hole in the giant growth, creatures spew out, tumbling over themselves and spilling millennia old dust on the ground.
The beings are walking masses of halfling-sized rotting flesh, naked and with large claws. Their childlike mouths open and snarl as they turn their heads and see you. A demonic fire, rich with glee, lights in their eyes, making them glow red. They groan and charge towards you, lunging at your faces!

Lord Borak backs up a few more feet.
"Congratulations, my dear commander. You have gone looking for trouble and you have found.
The hall is rented; the band is struck. Now, let's see if you can dance."
He marks the nearest of the creatures with a sign of doom and hopelessness and follows it with a glob of abuse and shame.

Elena laughs as she darts forward.
"I've been accused of many things Borak, but no one has ever questioned my dancing."
And then she promptly waits. As a rogue, it doesn't help Elena much to attack until an enemy stands either off his game, or next to one of her allies. She prepares an action to attack once the enemy strikes the unit's lines.

"Whatever these things are, they'll fall soon enough." Narrowing her eyes as she peers into the writhing mass unleashed from the tree, her brow furrows. "There's something larger in the back - something furry? No matter."
Riswynn unleashes another glob of acid toward the horde of rotting flesh, which explodes, spraying the scalding acid wildly.

Belac93 |
Going to assume Draco continued with his plan to cast thunderwave.
As the demons charge, the group leaps into action!
Borak's blast disintegrates one of the creatures, blasting it into dust, which hangs in the air like a burning tree. The dust is then abolished by the necrotic energy present in the curse of the wretched creature.
Elena runs up, piercing a demon through the eye, it's body falling to the ground like a sack of dried meat. Two more lung at her, and she deftly dodges their claws with a fancy twist.
Draco charges, blasting out his lightning. It seems to barely affect the degenerate things; only one of them is knocked back, while the others keep coming. However, Elena is also caught in his attack, but manages to barely hold her ground. He is lunged upon by a pair, and they fall upon his with their claws, one managing to get through the chain.
Hedgerow smashes one with his hammer, damaging it badly, but it seems to manage to stay upright, and it and another both manage to score injuring hits on the dwarf, and they draw blood.
Riswyn lets loose her acid, and manages to kill the one Hedgerow hit, and injures the other. The creature melts, still reaching out with hungry claws.
Rook stays back.
Chase lets out his fire, but it soars past and strikes the tree, the demons oblivious to him even attacking them.

When the manes attacked him he felt their disgusting claws ripping at his skin, inflicting serious wounds. The dwarf decided that his life was more important that any further pretense, and so he used some nature magic to seal up his wounds.

Rook looks over to Borak and a quick retort forms on his lips, but it dies there as he sees the dwarven druid pummeled by one of the demons. Normally he would have laughed and cheered the demon on, but this time something was different. He did not feel the joy of one of the surface dwellers getting some comeuppance, but rather a cold fury settled in his stomach.
Not sure why he was doing it, Rook joined the battle, striking out with sword and fist at the creature who attacked his fri...err..the dwarf!

She moves to the back of the line, blood gently seeping out of her ears.
Elena uses her action to disengage, and moves to the back of the line behind the rest of her allies. She needs a medic bad. That said, it's okay Draco, just try to avoid that in the future. XD
Riswynn Clanless |
Riswynn her successful hits with professional satisfaction, but winces as the demons swarm and tear into her teammates. As Elena flees back, she steps in front of her commander. "You alright?" she asks without taking her eyes off the writhing enemy flesh. Interposing between the injured human and the melee ahead of her, she fires another glob of acid into the enemy crowd.

Borak fires yet again, disintegrating another of the foul beasts.
Rook charges in, his sword stabbing one through the gut, while his fist swings around in an arc and snaps off the head of another. One attacks him, but he bats it away, and it stumbles towards the tree.
Draco swings his mace in a backward sweep, knocking the arm off of one, and taking its life as well.
Riswyn shoots out her acid, only managing to hit one of the beasts, and it seems close to death, it's dry ribs sticking out of it's body. It lunges at Hedgerow once again, just as the dwarf is healing, and manages to claw him once again!
Chase fires out a blast of magic, and strikes the uninjured demon, the three points stabbing into it's body with the force of a charging elephant, pitching it back against the tree, where it stuck to the trunk.

Hedgerow looked at the drow elf with a raised eyebrow, unsure if he was being sarcastic or just being drow. He raised his hand as a swirling green energy coalesced, sending energy tendrils to seal up his open demon-claw wounds.
The dwarf's features began to shift, almost as if the muscle and bones beneath his skin were at war with one another. Half a moment later all of his gear had fused with his body, which had altered in form to that of a massive black and white striped hunting cat. Tiger stats, reflavored, He stared into the drow's eyes, his whiskers pulled back in a sneer as he rumbled a dangerous feline low growl. Being unable to speak in this form, he ended this moment of silly self-indulgent chest thumping by mustering what he hoped passed for a 'smile' on the new form's face to communicate no hard feelings. To further the notion, he walked toward Rook and rubbed bodily against him, much as a housecat might, though in a grander fashion.
Hedgerow-the-tiger then padded over to the broken tree to get a better look at the furry thing that had yet to reveal itself fully to the group of soldiers. He walked softly as he approached, then sniffed the air in an attempt to harness the enhanced senses of this new animal form. This form grants advantage on scent-based perception checks.

Rook looks at the transformation with a look of awe and surprise.
"WOW..that is impressive...now why did you not do that earlier...silly dwarf!"
While his tone might sound flippant, the look on the drow's face is one of approval and, maybe even something else.

Lord Borak the Despoiler |
Lord Borak takes the break in the action as an opportunity to hold his hand before him and clench his fist.
The act seems to awaken some other-worldly power deep within him, and a grey-gold smoke composed of the roar of a trumpet and the honor of victory surrounds the warlock. Unspoken is the word that his person will not be harmed until this aura of majesty and splendor is pierced.

Hedgerow |
The tiger looked at the adorable demon-dog, wondering whether he should kill it or give it a good home.
Hedgerow then moved alongside Elena, trying to reassure her with his presence while she investigated the strange find.
Riswynn Clanless |
"Hmm." Riswynn turns her attention to the tattered remains of demon flesh littering the ground, and turns back to her fried commander. "I wonder if that's avoidable... should work..." she mutters to herself, going through some quick arcane theory in her head.
Shaken from her thoughts by Hedgerow's sudden transformation, she eyes the large cat nervously. "What's in there?" she calls out from a short distance away. "Any sign--besides the demons, I guess--that this tree was bad news?"

"Hedgerow is acting too calm to be worried about the tree. I think it may be nothing."
Chase begin thinking of a tune for later to calm his mind.
Belac93 |
Are we out of combat? I'm waiting on another round, or for it to act.
Oops, sorry, you are out of combat, for now. You can all look at the spoiler I showed to Hedgerow if you go and look at the thing.
Make a dexterity check if you want to avoid the lick.
Lord Borak the Despoiler |
Borak frowns. He knows what needs to happen here, and figures he may as well be the one to do it.
His mind reaches out the demon dog. 'Alright, you have our attention. Who are you and what do you want?'
Hedgerow |
The large tiger pulled back slightly but did not avoid the dog's affections. It had not yet exhibited any malicious behaviors, so he saw no harm in it.
Something about being in this form had a strange effect on the hill dwarf's mindset. A sudden urge almost against his will came over Hedgerow as he felt inclined to lick the animal back. In an effort to fully experience what it was to be a cat, he indulged the inclination and licked the demon-dog's fur several times in return.
lol...this is too weird.
