Lillian Naraku:

After you were appointed to Inquisitor you were summoned to Bastion Serpentis, a secret fortress hidden on the surface of Scintilla’s moon Lachesis. You knew the invitation was abnormal and noticed the cyphers you had recently learned and recognized it was the Tenebrae Collegium.

Upon arriving you met with Lord Zerbe, though officially this meeting never occured. Here you spent a number of months learning all you could of the Tyrant Star and the Dark Pattern. The Fortress contained the greatest repository for such knowledge and it was a life dream to be surrounded by so much forbidean lore and knowledge, you spent time just consuming all you could and paying attention to details, confident you would notice something that others had missed. You knew it to be your destiny and you are relentless in your pursuits and studies.

After what could of easily been a year you are told that for now your time of study and training in the Tyrantine Cabal were complete. You were introduced to some powerful allies and members. It is no secret that your gifts and uniqueness put you in a special position of trust. Rare is an individual able to behold so many of the Cabal's secrets. The conditioning they imposed were nearly unecessary as your mind is unreadable and willpower nearly unmatched. You had proven yourself and your loyalty beyond reproach and you had been rewarded justly so with the keys to the kingdom.

While no lead is found that requires your immediate attention, you do pass on information and pieces to your network, ever vigilant for the signs of heresy, sorcery, and daemons. As a newly appointed Inquisitor, your powerful connections through your families nobility and wealth, along with you shadow allies in the Cabal, you were well eqquipped and given permission to create your own Cadre among members of multiple Ordos and backgrounds. You thought long and hard and eventually selected those you could trust and depend on. With you own agenda, you knew they might be needed to aid in more than just the regular duties of an Inquisitor. You sent communiques to your selected allies, making promises and offers they couldn't refuse, called in favors, traded favors, whatever it took to get the resources and personel you desired. Your powers of persuasion and influence quickly yielded a positive outcome and you awaited and prepared for your allies to join you on Cadia.

You had decided to take up your first post there, hoping the proximity to the Halo Stars and Eye of Terror would be a central location to conduct your work. Your hunting down and rooting of heresy and organized threats are significantly important to the planet and system. While rarely seen, often choosing to act through a body proxy or by projecting yourself into the minds of those who request an audience, you hunt down leads and witches, rooting out corruption with a seemingly invsible hand.

Recently you lost contact with a group of acolytes you sent to investigate rumors of a group of Tech-Heretiks with possible links to the Dark Mechanicus. Not willing to risk further Acolytes, as they are too young and inexperienced, you believe it a perfect task for your Cadre and eagerly await for them all to arrive. Your last contact put the last of their transport shuttles from Orbit arriving within the day.

Everyone Else:

6 Months Ago:

You recieve a personal invitation from a former friend or superior whom at the time was not an Inquisitor, but who has now been recently bestowed the title. You are requested to join her on Cadia as a member of her Cadre in the near future, after her arrival to the system. Be it honor, by debt, or sheer admiration and respect of Lillian, you can not refuse the request and are honored to be considered to such a position. Instructions are to relocate to Cadia and all necessary travel arrangements for you and your things are to be covered and arranged by the Holy Ordos.

Here's a good way to intro your PC, maybe gives some context and short history of what's been happening leading up to this meeting. You have plenty of time to tie up what you were doing and make necessary arrangements to relocate to Cadia. Once you arrive you'll meet the Inquisitor, there will be offices and facilities, safehouses, etc, where you'll meet up and be briefed. Arrive any time you like and feel free to make up whatever leading up till now, maybe you got here quick and have been helping already, or just arrived last and need to be briefed and meet up with everyone for our first mission. Up to you.

Wounds: 15/15, Fate: 3/3, AP: 5 [All] (Vindicare Stealth Suit)

Orders.

The man stands quietly in his cell. In his hand is a dataslate recently handed to him by another brother, who stands by waiting patiently for a response. The man lifts up the dataslate, tapping the screen and reading the text again.

Lillian Naraku still lives. Good.

He hands the dataslate back. I'll be leaving soon. Make the arrangements.

---

Less than a month later the man stepped off the shuttle along with several dozen other passengers.

Cadia. Nicer than I expected.

He turns to the man next to him with a smile, Well, it was nice to meet you Jonah. Hope to see you around. He shakes the man's hand and heads off to disappear into the crowd.

---

Alive, more or less.

He was truly glad to see Lillian Naraku, but he didn't know what to make of her current state.

She is not who I remember. But enough remains. Time to work.

To outsiders he was the new clerk assigned to the Inquisitor. More of a personal assistant than a true Adept of any sort, he has seen to her daily needs over the past few months. It didn't take him long to fit in and get to know people.

"Magos Rakavet Kaldaria, my masters have found you guilty of Tech Heresy in the eyes on the Omnissiah. Are you prepared to face judgement in the form of being re-rendered Fit to Purpose?"

The Optical Mechadendrite turned to focus on the apparent Tech-Priest, even as Rakavet continued to survey the information before him. Plugged into the coginator via the MIU at the base of his skull, the Magos continued to study the schematics comparing the more ancient variation of laser based weapons. The ones from ancient Terra had used less power but had fired in a more focused beam, giving a longer life and dealing more damage, albeit in a smaller, more contained area. Fascinating.

"Your masters, alas, lack the rank to judge my worth." The Magos focused on another of the data stacks, pulling up the schematics for a certain type of laser cutter used in cutting the huge plates of metal that made up Titan Armour. It had some similarities. "I am a Magos Militant of the Adeptus Mechanicus, a Peer of the Inquisition. Only an Archmagos or greater can even begin to judge me. Your masters simply don't like me. Please get it correct."

The not-quite Tech-Priest moved slowly to the side, strange weaponry extending from one Mechadendrite. "Your Heresy is well known. My Masters can and shall judge, and I am in the instrument of there judgement. Your ties to the Inquisition cannot hide or protect you for ever. They have left you here. You have been discarded."

Rakavet finally disconnected, sighing as he felts the collected knowledge of a thousand Tech-Priests fall away. He felt lessened as he turned to face the other man, glancing at the beam of light emerging from his Mechadendrite. An energy bladed power sword. Different. "In this regard, the Inquisition and the Mechanicus are similar. They rarely discard a still useful tool unless they must."

A piercing shot roared from the darkness of the stacks, a single round. It punched clean through the Mech-Assassin's armour, and then it's armoured flesh, in a single instant before exploding within him. Rakavet's Lumien Barrier flared to life as bits and pieces of the Assassin bounced of it. "Thank you, my friend," he murmured into the darkness. A new pulse of information arrived in the coginator within his mind. Examining it, he turned. "But I must go. An old acquittance has a certain need for me."

Walking towards the room he used as his personal chambers, the Tech-Priest murmured, "Now how am I going to get to Cadia..."

Female Human, Gunmetallican

In the high spires of Hive Sibellus on Scintilla, a woman dressed in the Robes of a Adepta Sororita was walking quickly through the massive hallways of the convent. To an outsider, it would appear as most likely a member of one of the Orders Non-militant, perhaps a Sister Famulous or a Hospitaller.

Standing just above the average height, with her darker skin tone and jet black hair, she looked nothing like the Sororita on the propaganda posters, with their imposing physiques and white hair. A scripture woven through her long braid, lashing around as she kept her pace, she passed a trio of armoured sisters. They turned their attention to the newcomer, interrupting their conversation to nod, give the Aquila and murmur with respect, "Palatine." Not slowing down, she nodded at them, replying in a steely tone, "Emperor with you.", she kept striding through the corridor, passing by a massive golden statue of Saint Alicia Dominica, patron saint of the Sisterhood, depicting her as bloodied and worn, in her final battle. Barely acknowledging the familiar sight, Federica kept striding towards the Canoness' sanctum. I must tell the Canoness.

Upon reaching the looming door, she looked at the two sisters keeping the traditional guard on both sides of the office, Storm Bolters in hands, helmets on. "I must go in. She's expecting me." The sister on the left, nodding, turned to the mechanism to the side of the door, and pushed a button. The massive ornamented doors opened with a hiss, revealing a giant room with a ceiling, covered in mosaics depicting battles and sacrifices of the Order.

Standing straight and giving the Aquila, the Palatine spoke. "Your Grace. I have received a heed by Inter... Inquisitor Naraku. It seems she lives. I am to be accompanying her on Cadia." The wrinkled figure sitting on the massive desk rose, smiling. "I assume that everything is in order, then? Have you arranged the matters relating to your departure?"

"Yes, Your Grace. I will be accompanying the Rogue Trader Rodriguez in his journey towards Cadia. I'll be providing her missionary with advice on the way as a repayment for my travel." Her gaze briefly jumping outside the massive stained window to look at the Inquisitorial Tricorn, she continued. "I have appointed, with your permission, for Legatine Helena to take charge of the Seraphims while I'm gone. She is experienced,", she smiled, "More so than me, and is a great leader. I'll require to be given my armour and weaponry, and shall depart tomorrow."

The old Adepta gazed at the window, paying more attention to the depicted Saint, rather than the view. "Very well, child. I would be unwise to refuse the request of the Inquisition, and it does appear that it's your decision as well." She gave Sister Federica a motherly smile and went on. "I give you my blessing, child. And an advice. Don't fret yourself over the past. It's the Emperor's hand that has guided you in your choices. 'What ifs' only aim to drive one insane. Now go. Say your farewells to your Sisters. I'll arrange for your equipment to be delivered. Emperor be with you."

Federica nodded, smiling at the act of courtesy by the Canoness, and replied, "Thank you, Your Grace. And with you."

The next morning, on the spaceport, the Palatine, accompanied by an Honor Guard of a dozen Adepta in full battle regalia, turned towards the leader of the guard, the only one in the red armor of the Order of the Bloody Rose. "May the Emperor guide you, Helena. You'll be in my prayers. We'll keep in touch." Smiling, she began ascending the marble stairs of the shuttle, waving at her sisters for one final time.

---

Setting down in her quarters, Sister Federica's prayer for a safe journey was interrupted by a knock on the door. Standing up, murmuring about people in general, she was surprised to see the Rogue Trader personally appearing on her door. A figure dressed in a gown more worthy of a spire ball than a voidship, was grinning, holding a gilded ebony box, a silver Aquila inscribed on the surface. "Your Grace? That was left alongside your cargo, and it wasn't on the list of equipment you gave my Seneshal. Since, well, curiosity is, sadly, one of my vices, I decided to deliver it to yourself personally. There wasn't a note, nor anything, but the guy said it was delivered by a rather scared Sister. Also, it's gene-locked.", the Captain chuckles.

Federica raised her eyebrow at the last comment, the ends of her lips trembling in a brief smile. "I guess it is true what they say about you Rogue Traders. I thought you were more the Trader type than the Rogue type." Placing her hand at the case, attempting to open it, the hinges clicked. In the velvet insides, a set of masterfully crafted revolvers lay, covered in immaculate texts of holy scripture. A whistle was heard from the captain as her eyes widened at the weapons. "I knew I should've kept that." Smiling back, Federica reached in, grabbing the two and twirling them around in a almost forgotten display of showmanship. "You could have tried." Under the set, a small note lay. Putting the revolvers back, the sister reached and broke open the seal of the Canoness.

Dear Federica. I believe this gift is the most fitting to remind you of Scintilla. May your journey be swift and your task successful.

Female Noble Born Human Imperial Psyker

The Fortress world of Cadia is a harsh place, both cold and brutal and also on fire with its citizen's powerful, burning faith in the God Emperor.

Trained to fire a gun and perform drills literally since the time they can walk the young men and women of Cadia form some of the most dedicated warrior corps the Imperium knows.

Everything one Cadia breeds war and faith, even their cities are layed out in deliberate labyrinth ways to form natural defense barriers and kill zones against an invading enemy. The mansion Lillian has co-opted as her current base of operations bears little resemblance to the decadent homes of most Imperial Nobility and is built more like a fortress of armored walls and gun turret blisters.

As her coffin rests on a high balcony over looking the lonely moors of Cadia Lillian considers the people of this world and how perfect a place it is to start a quest blessed by the God Emperor.

The skies are clear and the starts shone brightly, but it is not a peacful night. No night on Cadia is as the bright red and purple stain of the Eye of Terror hangs heavily over much of the eastern horizon, a suppurating sore in the pure firmament of the holy Imperium, an evil eye that bleeds madness and malice into the world of righteousness and reason that is the Emperor's domain.

Cadia is the gate on the one stable warp route from the festering warp wound and as such must stand strong against the endless legions of Chaos that sometimes pour forth, it is the perfect place to begin, Lillian believes, an iconic example of the strength needed to stand for the Imperium against the endless filth of Chaos.

The perfect place to begin a great hunt.

Female Noble Born Human Imperial Psyker

A bit of a story hiccup for us to resolve, my history assumes Lillian has already been an Inquisitor for decades and the reason for her current low level of influence is she has been out of the game so long as opposed to just been having been promoted. If you want me to change that though I can work on it. More gameplay posts to come.

Female Noble Born Human Imperial Psyker

Lillian engages her anti-grav unit and her coffin lifts a few inches off the ground and drifts slowing off the balcony into the meeting room behind her.

Her Cadre members have finally arrived, one by one, from the far corners of the Segmentum and await to hear her words on the details of why they have been summoned. Some have been here for months, others, just arriving, but they are all here now so now is the time.

Where once the Cadre knew the Inquisitor as a vivacious, young appearing woman now what presents to them is a jet black armored coffin, a smooth and thick device bent in two places as to take the shape of an enclosed reclining chair. All its life support systems and psi-circuitry are internal and protected and though the coffin bears no weapons it appears it would take a plasma torch to cut through the thick armor layers to reach anything vital.

The coffin is a mastercrafted device, a work of art both mechanically and artistically, its surface covered in silver and platinum designs of Imperial Iconography with an Imperial Aquila decorating its highest point where you suspected the Inquisitor's reclining head lies beneath.

It is truly a work of wonder.

Rakavet has done a damn fine job.

Female Noble Born Human Imperial Psyker

+Greetings friends+ Lillian's soft, feminine mind voice echos in the heads of the Cadre as her coffin deactivates its anti grav and settles heavily on the floor on two ski like runners that support its massive weight.

+I have gathered you all here not just because you are the best of the best, though you are, but because I feel you are trustworthy and can handle anything the universe throws at you. But before I begin, please help yourselves to refreshments, if you like.+

The richly appointed room has high backed leather chairs for the comfort of those who sit and several platters of expensive sweetmeats and pastries for those who are hungry as well as a crystal decanter filled with the finest amasec.

+It has taken a longtime to recover from my crippling at the hands of Toth, but I have not spent that time idly. I have learned much and gained much power and knowledge and it is time to take up the chase once more. I have been chasing that Heretic Sorcerer for decades, in one form or another, and it is time to end him. However, in reviewing the evidence again and again I have begun to suspect that perhaps even Toth is not the mastermind behind the many conspiracies I have uncovered, but rather just another link in the chain leading towards the real master. Such speculation can wait however, as first things are first.+

Lillian exloads the details of the current mission in data packets to the devices of Cadre. As well, a port opens in the front of her coffin, revealing a projecting crystal that throws a hololithic 3D image of the data into the center of the room.

+We have to start somewhere, and here is the most important situation for us to deal with currently+

Female Noble Born Human Imperial Psyker

GM can fill in the details of the mission if he likes or relay them to me to repeat. Also tried to make it so this introduction doesn't step on the toes of anyone elses introductions, sorry if I messed anything up for you guys.

Edit: Also, sorry if I messed up where we are and what we are doing GM if you had something else in mind, was mostly just improvising, if you had a more specific base of operations in mind for example we can move the story there.

Like everything that was done by the man alone in the small library, going over the dataslate with the invitation was a slow process.
Despite the numerous candles burning, he would still pause and squint at the text from time to time.

While he would certainly stick out in a crowd because of his height, obvious breeding and finely cut clothing, it was probably the eyes that was the most unique feature.
Not only were they a bit watery in colour, and rheumy looking, but there was a fine web of scars spreading out from each orb.
in addition, in a semi circle on the outer edge of each eye was tattooed a thin line of high Gothic runes.
Un fact, to those who knew the language, it spelled out the first stanza of the rite of atonement and the rite of castigation.

At the moment, even that might pale in comparison to the fact that the entire front of his elaborate and beautifully tailored blue robe was drenched with blood.
Indeed, the blood was spread quite liberally in the small chamber, staining both the floor, walls, shelves and windows.

The source of the blood was a corpse, or half of one, the torso would appear to have exploded, possibly due to being peppered by a large and intimidating bolter weapon which was currently smoking gently to one side of the room.

"Most curious, a meeting on Cadia? But Cadia is vital, if there is danger there, I must go..."

------------------------
At the meeting
-----------------------

"Greetings inquisitor Naraku, I am pleased to be of service."

The tall man bowed formally, a stickler for protocol and formality.

"And I am pleased to meet the rest of you as well, if we are to smite the emperors foes, it is sure to require the best of us."

Wounds: 15/15, Fate: 3/3, AP: 5 [All] (Vindicare Stealth Suit)

The best of us. Yes, indeed.

Phineus leans against the wall quietly reading the dataslate. A few taps on the screen and a soft sigh as he looks up.

I believe we've all met, at least briefly over the last few months. Though some of haven't had a moment for a formal introduction. It's a pleasure to meet you all now. Phineus Faeyd at your service. I look forward to working with you all. The man gives a short bow of his head and steps back to the wall.

"Ludicus Marleno, Interrogator of the ordo Malleus, Master at arms and master Templar to the Temple Calix, master Qadrivite psyker and loyal servant of the Emperor and Empire."

While extensive in the titles listed, Ludicus voice never changed timbre, indicating that he does not take any undue pride in them and merely relates them as a matter of form.

Female Human, Gunmetallican

By the Emperor, Cadia is more defended than I imagined!, Federica thinks, looking at the gilded multilaser turret, placed on the balcony, overlooking the armoured labyrinth of the Kasr.

Federica pulls one of the chairs, sitting back, and looks around the room. Seeing a couple of familiar faces, she smiles at them, her eyes stopping for a moment to study Ludicus' eyes and the scripture around them. Interesting... This sounds familiar..., she thinks, breaking her gaze and turning her attention at the table. After a barely noticeable inner dispute, she takes a particularly appetizing pastry and takes a bite from it, then leaves the rest in her plate.

"Pleasure it is indeed. Didn't I see you at the reception desk when I arrived last week?", she says, turning towards Phineus, surprised to see the assistant here. I suppose, especially here, people are more than they appear at first sight... "To those who haven't met me, I am Federica Bianca del Vecchio, Palatine of the Bloody Rose of the Calixian Convent.", she says in a slightly accented High Gothic.

Wounds: 15/15, Fate: 3/3, AP: 5 [All] (Vindicare Stealth Suit)

The unassuming man nods, You have a remarkable memory, Palatine. We barely spoke and... His smirk is wry as he finishes, most people do not remember me.

He flips his dataslate up and taps it. I believe my file should be in here along with the others. My current duties are as personal clerk to Inquisitor Naraku. He inclines his head in a gesture of respect towards the Inquisitor herself.

The records themselves do speak to Phineus' previous service as an agent, though there are large gaps in time. The longest being almost a full decade since his last major operation. It does not mention his time training at the Temple, though several of those present are already aware.

"I am Magos Rakavet Kaldaria of the Adeptus Mechanicus." Of course, several already knew him, but since introductions were being made...the tall servant to the Omnissiah glanced around the room, recognizing several of the people there - and the work he had performed for them, whether weapon, armour or augmentation. Decades within the service of the Inquisition meant quite a bit of his work was out there, among the higher echelons of the Ordos.

And this was a fairly high echelon. Many were of the highest rank, the finest quality within there own, chosen profession. On the one hand, it was hard to imagine what such warriors and adepts of the Imperium of Man could fail to accomplish. On the other hand, his coginator was already spinning with the possibilities of what could demand such a gathering. Combined with there presence on Cadia, the Servants of the Archenemy seemed most likely. Rakavet shuddered slightly at the idea, the rising form of the tainted Sanctus Espiritus in his mind for a moment.

Moving instead moved to the table of pastries, lifting one and slowly biting in. Although Rakavet's brain and eyes had been augmented, he'd left his toungue well alone, and was grateful for it as the flavours flowed over it. Another bites, a slow chew and swallow. "My thanks for the refreshment, Inquisitor. I assume everything with your current housing is suitable for your needs? No malfunctions nor unnecessary discomfort?"

Male Forge World Omnicron -DX Born Verispex Adept FP 3/5

" In here courier-servitor B12EBC, take these to Lilli.. Inquisitor Naraku. Servitor Action Message Here are these final drafts for your approval, It is good to be working with you again."

Now that that was done Gaius leaned back in the grox-hide chair and sipped at the glass of Amasec It IS good to be back, and so much to do. His mind flowed back over the last few years since Lillian's injury, the frantic years spent searching for a way to help heal her body, the refusal to admit medical defeat and that fateful night where too much was said to the wrong person.
His ordered mind edited out the interrogation years, his 'testing' and flashed forward through the time spent recovering, the treatment of his bodily injuries the only apology he would ever receive from the Ordo.
He had received the missive from Lillian whilst undergoing further medical treatment and the upgrading of his cybernetics in the chirurgeon clinics of Macron IV and he let this play out in full in his mind.
The young student chirurgeon steeled himself, It had always been said that medicae staff made the worst patients and his next patient was one of the worst. Anxious to get this done and get back to his hopefully productive chat with the junior physician on Ward 6, he headed into the room a forced expression of friendliness just about remaining on his face. "Good Morning Senior Adept Haxtes, how are you feeling today?". The thin unremarkable man, of an indiscriminate age barely looked up from the large array of dataslates and books strewn across his medical bed "You know perfectly well how I am or are you not worthy of the 3rd band you now wear on your sleeve? My white blood cell count is still slightly elevated at 11000/mcl, I am showing signs of mild anaemia as my haemoglobin levels are still down and I have a slight infection around the interface circuitry on my left palma and pollex. You are treating me with Clindamycin for the infection rather than my preferred Ceftaroline, which is giving me terrible diarrhoea and with Phenylalanine-glutamine-glycine for the inflammation which seems to be the main reason that my white blood cell is approaching normal conditions within a typical time frame. What is your ongoing prognosis? or do I need to help you with that as well?"
Just as the rather crest-fallen student began his tentative reply, anxious to get this right, a ping was heard from one of the dataslates, the 'patient's' long slender fingers tapped away and suddenly he stood up. " I have equivocated here for too long, I am now renewed in purpose. I will be checking myself out today, as you can see I am more than capable of medicating myself with these minor issues. Please thank your team on my behalf. and with that he had almost left still in his surgical gown.
Enough sentimental thought, there are still those financial accounts to do, along with that thorny little problem, that might be a lead if I process all the evidence, still one more sip and then back to it.

+Everything is perfect, thank you. The coffin meets all my needs both personal and technical. The soporific analgesics shunted into my system keep me unaware of the painful state of my body while the psionic circuity keep my mind perfectly clear and my powers enhanced.+ Lillian informs.

+To my perception, I have no body. I am simply a mind set free to bask in a sea of data, sensor input and cogitation, while my extra senses can plume the depths of the warp and see the emotions and truths in the soulfires of those around me. While not an existence I would have chosen while still embodied, I am in a state where I am more free to serve the Emperor, uncluttered by mortal concerns, than ever before.+ The Inquisitor confides.

Sat in the corner of the room typing away on a dataslate, it would be easy to miss Gaius or assume he was a mere functionary there to take notes. If the cyber-mastiff at his feet didn't give him away however, his eyes would, they are far too old and yet too piercing to be that of a normal adept, when his gaze washes over you it feels like you have been analysed down even to what you had for breakfast.
It isn't the same, too many have been lost and at this thought his hand reaches down to stroke the metal head of Argos But you are here in spirit Denton old friend and Argos will protect me like you used to. They aren't the same, but they came when Lillian called and that is a good sign.

Standing and crossing the room to pour himself an amasec from the decanter and offering to pour for anyone else.
Greetings all, I am Gaius Haxtes, Scribe and Autopsectionist. I believe I have met you all, but sometimes I lose track of which source I have my knowledge from, the person or their file. It is good to see you all again, particularly you Lillian, and to be back on a case of such import. If I can be of assistance to anyone, then please just ask.

+Gaius, good to see you old friend. I apologize for everything that has happened to you, I was unconscious for much of your interrogation, if I had been awake and coherent I would have done all in my power to stop what they did to you.+

The Inquisitor's coffin emits a strange noise that sounds almost like a long suffering sigh.

+You helped save my life that day, I wish I could have repaid the favor. Anything you require as we work together now is yours, just ask and I will make it happen if possible.+

Lillian displays a plethora of information, images and data flashing at nearly the speed of her thoughts until she settles on specific pieces and begins to explain the current situation.

Within the last year, she and her team of Acolytes have been using Cadia as a base of operations in the system. While unsure if the conspiracy leads to the fortress world, she does not rule out the possibility.

Most recently a team of acolytes doing regular routine patrols of the Cadian Pylons went missing. Whether or not its tied to the current investigation or simply coincidence has yet to be determined.

A team sent to investigate and search for them recovered a data slate, one of the servo skulls that had been sent in by Lillian had returned! To date, none of the Inquisitors other servo skulls have returned from mapping the pylons interior. Maybe the men were targeted because of this, maybe not. No motive or clear explanation of what transpired has been developed, partly from lack of skilled acolytes, partly from the Inquisitors decision to control information.

The Inquisitor has resisted bringing much attention to this, she wishes to conceal her hand and doesn't want people to contaminate the pylons or her research. Not to mention the interest that would be drawn from multiple parties should it be discovered that Servo Skull had successfully returned after mapping the interior of a Pylon.

Her best lead is rumors from her network of a band of Heretiks that roam the planet and hide outside the fortress cities locally known as "Kasr". While cooler than Terra, Cadia is very similar in topography and climate. 70% of the surface is covered with Ocean water and the remainder is littered with cities, leaving tundras, forests, and open plains between Kasrs. Plenty of places for those looking to avoid scrutiny to hide and perform their work.

The main focus of the Inquisitor's investigation of this system is missing and stolen archeotech devices, mostly weapons and parts, with clear evidence of Tech-Heresy taking place. Mostly unknown to the public, the Government not wanting to bring attention to their mistakes, they have charged the Inquisitor with uncovering the individuals responsible for the thefts and root out the Heretiks, whom many officials believe to be tied to the Dark Mechanicus, but have no evidence to support the theory.

The thefts have taken place and the cells of Heretiks can be traced all over the system. As Archeotech became better guarded, recently Xenotech has been the target of theft and tamper. Private armories raided, personal collections stolen, shipments hijacked, and simple murder or attack on individuals displaying powerful items in public, despite being a fortress World with high levels of security and training amongst all the population. This is a double edged sword, meaning that the people responsible are not helpless or just smart. They are ambitious, connected, well supplied and trained. The entire population living under constant threat from Chaos and the first line of defense against Crusade after Crusade coming from the Eye of Terror.

Initial investigations show no apparent surface connections or support inside the Government of Cadia, but Lillian still considers the possibility. All over the system, things have been happening in a seemingly chaotic fashion, but Lillian suspects a pattern and connection.

Archaeotech? Xenotech? They must have a way of finding out where these things are. This conspiracy must be vast.

Powerful artifacts and no fear of being caught. People that are capable of doing these things don't gain these skills overnight. If this were a criminal organization it would need to be vast but there's too many people you'd have to coordinate with to make that work. Whoever it is, they are capable of bringing together specialists and plan a job quickly. Any one of these would put a strain on a decent organization. All of them? He frowns and taps the dataslate screen twice, It's difficult to believe they have every specialist they need for all of this. Even if it's only one or two, and they didn't know what they were a part of, I'd guess they outsourced at least once or twice.

I think your instincts about government connections are spot on. Even if it's not important people, there are people helping them. These individuals almost certainly don't know who they work for or even why. If they did, we'd have a lot more information than we have now. Phineus taps the dataslate a few more times and shakes his head slightly. If I were doing this, I would get my information from hundreds of different people and make sure none of them knew the full story. A passcode here, an attendant gossiping about their lord there. One of our first goals should be finding out how they're getting so much information without being noticed. Jobs like this...all going so smoothly? That's a lot of planning and not a small amount of luck.

"Indeed, all valid points.
In addition, seeing as Cadia is the first line of defence at the very edge of the eye of terror, the security is second to none, perhaps not even holy Terra itself.
That increases the capacity needed exponentially.
...
However, there may yet be more to be discovered, they may yet have made mistakes for us to unearth.
BECAUSE it is so unlikely to have gone smoothly, there is every possibility that it has not, we may merely need to dig deeper."

Looking for information on underworld gangs are there any with the skills to pull this off or parts that might be used as mercenaries. Imperial Guard for knowledge of how one might source this kind of information within the military, could it be hacked. Imperium for knowledge of geography of Cadia and most likely hiding places. Cults for knowledge of cults that could do this or might want to and what they might want to achieve. Bureaucracy for knowledge of administratum and government and how they might store knowledge of archeotech and xenotech, could it be hacked. Occult for what they might hope to achieve ritual wise and knowlege of the pylons, current theories etc. Sorry ;)

I am just conducting some preliminary searches to find out who may have been capable of this and where they might be able to source such information. I have also just started a program running to analyse the geography of Cadia and look for likely locations for the
hiding places and cross referencing that with any sightings or disturbances in the area to try and ascertain a pattern and likely next base. However it does suggest a serious network within the organisation, which would be difficult to hide. If you want I can start to put out data searches within the various organisations to look for patterns or rumours?

Federica hears Gaius' voice, raising her eyebrows at the though. Looking around quickly to find him, and granting him with a smile. "Senior Adept Haxtes! It's a pleasure to see you here! I can see you're still as keen and cunning as you were back in the day.", honestly happy to see the Verispex. She smiles at the plan, nodding at the Inquisitor. "Inquisitor. I believe that your scans and searches have already been quite expansive and detailed, yes? If I may suggest, I could lead a squad of few good servants of the Emperor to the Pylon, so we can gather more knowledge than a servo-skull." She again experiences inner turmoil when faced with a choice, and takes a small amount of amasec. If it's good enough for the Inquisition, there is no harm in it, no?

Taking a small sip, she asks, turning her attention to the gilded sarcophagus, "My Lady Inquisitor. I am assuming that you already have a plan in motion? If so, I'd lend you my skills.", says Federica, keeping an ear out on the conversation.

The food turning almost to ash in his mouth, Rakavet swallowed heavily. Hereteks. The Dark Mechanicus. "Well, I suppose I understand why I have been called." He mentally wished he had brought the huge MultiLaser he carried on more dangerous missions, but respect for the Inquisitor meant her had left in his chambers. Now he missed it's comforting bulk, the small drain on his systems.

"Worse, if we do face the Dark Mechanicus, they may have allies from within the Traitor Legions. Although they will be exceptionally difficult to hide, especially here - only a small contingent." But that small contingent would be terrifying. Even as upgraded as he had been, Rakavet would not wish to fight a traitor Marine.

The Magos considered. "Even lesser Hereteks can cause some problems, but all of them have certain requirements. I suggest a search focused on the power systems and other utilities between the cities. They will need power, at the very least, and if possible water or gas. If they are not drawing those from the local grid, an orbital scan might register an unregistered power source. However, they are likely wise to both tactics already - this is Cadia, after all - so it is quite possible that such scans won't find much."

Rakavet began to scan through his own memories, looking for anything that might be of use.

+On the ball as always Phineus, you have my permission for free reign to do as you think best on this mission, be circumspect though. I have a feeling we are poking a bee hive with this one, whomever these people are, they are dangerous.+ Lillian acknowledges.

Female Noble Born Human Imperial Psyker

+Your strength inspires me Gaius+ The Inquisitor replies. +The enemy certainly has connections within Cadia's Imperial organizations, they would have to to operate at all on this world, security is just too tight for it to be otherwise. Begin your work.+

Female Noble Born Human Imperial Psyker

+You may certainly begin your investigation Federica, the Pylons themselves are close to inscrutable but I suspect our enemy has an interest in them. Be careful though, the pylons have an odd calming effect on the warp and the effect is stronger the closer you get to them, a skilled psyker can conceal himself very easily when close to them and ambush you. Keep your wits about you, it would kill me to lose you.+ Lillian admits.

+No plan in motion yet, we're in the information gathering stage at this point, I like to have my feet firmly planted before trying anything too complex. The Emperor favors the prepared.+

Lillian angles her coffin towards the rest of the group. +Speaking of which, everyone should remained armed and ready for combat at all times. I suspect this case is at least tangentially connected to Toth and that bastard is always fifty steps ahead of me but even if it isn't I've learned the hard way to expect an ambush, at all times.+

I'm afraid I'm not as familiar with this world as some of you. I've read the brief on this system and the Pylons. Is there anything else I should know?

He taps his dataslate a few more times, It will be slow, but I can start the process once we're done here. I'll have to find any specialists that may have been used. Then we should start finding out what we can as to where any remaining Archaeotech or Xenotech is located. We may gain some insight into how they're learning this information. It will take time to set up a network on planet, but I assume some of your acolytes have already been working towards this? His smile indicates that he's asking to be polite and already knows the answer.

As for this Pylon expedition. How many exploration groups have been lost? We should be careful going in with any significant force.

Female Human, Gunmetallican

Looking at Phineus, Federica nods and smiles, "Well though, Phineus. I would suggest that we take a small, mobile and experienced force there, to see what's going on in there.", she takes a small sip of the amasec, unaccustomed to the taste of such fine quality. Leaving the rest of the glass to the side, to be taken away by the servitors, she continues. "If I may suggest something. I believe us all to be in possession of powerful technology. Could we, perhaps, orchestrate a ruse of sorts, to get the enemy's attention, and then strike? Perhaps even place one of ours undercover as the salesman of this particular piece. It sounds reasonable, no?"

As soon as the Inquisitor gives the go to the Master at Arms, Federica smiles and gives a small bow to the psyker. "Master at Arms, it is a pleasure to meet you. I'll be happy to have the assistance of somebody like you along to this mission. I believe that if somebody present deems it necessary to lend their assistance to us, that would be most welcome. Is setting out at 0600 tomorrow suitable for you, Master Marleno?", she blurts out in a quick succession, standing up from her seat to address the others.

Wounds: 15/15, Fate: 3/3, AP: 5 [All] (Vindicare Stealth Suit)

Phineus smiles as Sister Federica gives her suggestion, I was thinking the exact same thing. I think we should take our time with it though. Make sure we know as much as we can, work out a good cover, and start seeding it early. Once Gaius' searches have done their work we can craft something up. He taps the screen of the dataslate a couple of times.

We'll have to be careful though. I'm sure these others thought themselves safe. Confidence in this matter can get us killed.

"If I may?" Rakavet considered as he lifted a drink. "While your plan has merit, I would suggest we create a piece for...sale rather than simply using something we already own. I believe I would be able to fabricate such a thing, given a little time. Maybe something that emits an energy signature we can track?"

Ludicus turns somewhat ponderously towards Federica and bows slowly.
"The inquisitor has given me a task, and the task is to assist you ladu Del Vecchio.
If you say 0600 is the time we leave, then that is the time I shall be ready for."

This body has seen much rebuilding after extensive damage, but it will not fail me.
I do sometimes miss my former agility however...

Gaius spends the remainder of the day searching for connections and lore that could aid the Cadre in their endeavor:

Common Lore Underworld: You know there aren’t any gangs that you know of that could be pulling this off alone. Perhaps they might know of someone else who is, but getting that information might prove difficult. Only one gang that you are familiar with on Cadia, but there could be more in the system. However, due to the importance of this sector, they remain hidden and secretive, as they aren’t able to exert much power overtly with such a strong Imperial Presence here. Also, the Imperium has done a fine job eradicating such gangs as they threaten the Cadian Gate and could possibly support the Emporer’s enemies. The “Twin Suns” gang is notorious and yet somehow respected and allowed to operate in this sector. (This lore isn’t so “common” so there is certainly more, just not to be had with Common lore rolls.)

Common Lore Imperial Guard: You get a clear picture of the organization and structure of the Guard on Cadia. Not much that is useful to what you are looking for, but information that I’ll remind you of should it become relavent.

Common Lore Imperium: You learn all there is to know of Cadia and its history of Crusades. Not much that is useful to what you are looking for, but information that I’ll remind you of should it become relavent. If you want to look for more geographic regions that could be useful, give me a “navigation” surface or trade (cartographer) roll…Or if you have something else that could aid or someone else, it could be helpful, but a “common lore” roll isn’t gonna get all you’re looking for.

Forbidden Lore Cults: You are unable to discover any cults or knowledge of them that might be interested in such activities or understand why or what they are doing.

Scholastic Lore Bureaucracy: It is possible that some of the cogitators containing sensitive information could have been hacked. There is a registry of some Archeotech devices, but no registry of Xenotech in the system. The list is not complete and you know that not everyone likes to broadcast and openly tell others what they have. You have discovered that the Militaries’ armory and that of the highest officials have been untouched in the ring of thefts. Here on Cadia they actually move some of the more sensitive items regularly and only a handful of people have the security protocols and knowledge of such things. Lastly, you realize that there is less Bureaucracy here than on other systems, with the Fortress world leaders having consolidated much of their power. Not much happens that they don’t know about. There is also a large program for eaves dropping and collecting data on Cadia’s inhabitants, though the highest officials seem to be exempt from this information collection. While none of this is advertised you can deduce it from your examination of Cadia’s organizational structure and patterns.

Scholastic Lore Occult: The occult could be collecting weapons and devices for a number of reasons. Historically its been in support of a coming crusade or small incursion of Chaos or traitor marines. Rarely has the source or ritual been Daemonic, but it has been known to occur. You aren’t able to find anything specifically regarding Cadia’s history, perhaps there is Forbidden Lore that could be of more use. You know Cadia doesn’t stand and there have been frequent cullings of any an dall Occults, so any that do exist will be deeply hidden and invisible. Perhaps now though they are taking action and believe the risk is worth the exposure, Cults can be foolish and naïve.

Rakavet scans his own memories and accesses a few cogitators to recall what he can of Cadia and its possible connections with the Mechanicus:

Common Lore (Machine Cult) : There is a strong Mechanicus presence here due to the proximity to the Eye or Terror and this being a fortress world where much of the supplies and information regarding technology pass through Cadia. There is a forge world in the system and the components for Archeotech and Xenotech aren’t common knowledge or lore.

Forbidden Lore (Adeptus Mechanicus): Your analysis of what’s been stolen has been mostly weapons and offensive devices. (I’ll provide a list later, but for now its not so important) Also you realize that some things that might have been stolen weren’t reported, as they might not of been legally obtained or would’ve been confiscated by the Mechanicus if officially known.

Forbidden Lore (Daemonology) (1DOS not 2) You can’t recall or find anything useful in this regard.

Forbidden Lore (Archeotech) : The Pylons are Xenotech, not Archeotech. If you don’t know, then the Inquisitor will share that they were built by Necrons. If you don’t know what they are, then she fills you in briefly without destroying your mind and making you question everything you thought you knew. Maybe an insanity roll perhaps?

Scholastic Lore (Legends): You say you got 6 DOS, but looks like 1 DOF

Please note guys that some of your DOS were incorrect for your rolls. For example you roll a 4 on a 100, then that is 9DOS, not 10. Imagine being able to add +10 to your number and how many can you add before you reach the number you rolled. 9DOS would be 94, then 10 DOS would only be possible on 00. Unless you have something else that gives you extra DOS, which you should mention, be watchful adding up your DOS.

Sorry for long delay, but I’m back and excited to get things going again. I got some more to reveal, but I like the ideas so far and hope you act on them.

I agree that not using our own equipment would be best. As for creating something, we really just need a good story and to make it look like it would be xenotech or archaeotech. It doesn't actually need to do anything. He pauses a moment to think, But we have time. We need to investigate these thefts and see if we can't turn up more information. As Ludicus says, it is possible they made a mistake that just hasn't been noticed yet.

He looks up from his dataslate, Sister, would you prefer that more of us join you in your investigation? I expect that the rest of this can wait till we return.

"I am not sure I could make a working archeotech quality relic within the kind of time constraints we face here," Rakavet explained. "What I believe I could...replicate...would be a currently damage and non-functional machinery, perhaps something pulled from a Space Hulk that had been broken up? Damaged, but still emitting energry readings..." Rakavet smiled slightly.

Sorry about the rolls/dos, it was late at night, and here we go again as the whine of a mosquito is keeping me awake!

"Ah Sister Federica, yes I still serve the Emperor on the mortal coil, as I see do you and you have come far indeed in our time apart."

"I agree that an exploratory mission is required to the scene of the disappearance, I would like to also offer my services. Although we do not want to make to large a force, my training is in assessing the scene of a crime for details, clues if you will. There may not, be much left but we will find something I am sure. I should be finished with my initial searches later today, so I can do 0600 if you wish. What I cannot decide is whether we are better suited to bringing all our resources to bear on this line of inquiry first, after all Rakavet and Phineus may spot things appropriate to their areas of expertise that we would miss. On the other hand it would be good to start exploring this idea of a 'sting' operation and that would take time to set up and that is something we are short of. Also if my searches don't reveal much then it will be time to start cultivating contacts for further information and again I assume not a moment is to be lost there either. I will retire to my study for these searches, but perhaps this afternoon we could reassemble and I will tell you what I have found out."

can I make that trade(cartographer) roll then as well for the geographical ideas as mentioned above?
Trade(cartographer) 40: 1d100 ⇒ 95 5dof
Oh well, that didn't go well!

That evening Gaius meets with the others for dinner, after food has been eaten and after dinner drinks are being enjoyed he stands and begins his presentation.
"I have to admit I have found little of moment, but perhaps you can spot clues I have missed and certainly when it comes to maps, my skills lie in drawing them not using them."
Linking his data slate to the central display system in the room he shows them the key results of his findings so far.
Feel free to assume you now know what Gaius does from Bayou's last post.
" All that I can conclude from this are these lines of inquiry:
Firstly the 'Twin Suns' were they involved and if so who protects them and why.
Secondly, the world leaders, and this would therefore be more delicate, they seem to have been untouched and they aren't monitored, are they collecting it?
Thirdly, although some central cogitators would be worth checking for evidence of hacking, this couldn't be the only way these people have been gathering information about the whereabouts of this tech.
Fourthly, the occult, history tells us this is usually with the aim of assisting a traitor marine attack or black crusade if you will and rarely to do with daemons, but they are likely to be hard to track down as they are regularly purged.
I cannot see anything that helps us that much at present, but perhaps more will make sense as we gather more data. My next port of call would be to start to inquire amongst some of the main organisations, Arbites, Administratum etc"

"I do not believe there are any Adeptus Arbites on Cadia," Rakavet replied thoughtfully, "As it is currently, and permanently, under martial law. I believe the same task is carried out by sections of the Cadian Interior Guard, there equivalent of a Planetary Defence Force."

The Magos glanced at Inquisitor. "I assume we are not to use the might of the Inquisition to gain access to what we need, so as to not inform our opponents that anyone is looking for them?"

Phineus nods as the others speak, As to a sting operation, and increasing our local intelligence collection, this will take some time. I think we can put to work some of your acolytes immediately, but patience will be the key on that front. Rushing anything could be disastrous.

As Ludicus ate with clipped precise movements, he listened intently, but said little, except to break the slow stride of his eating at one point to nod and intone one of the first rules of the empire.

"Nothing is certain except the will of the emperor."

Female Human, Gunmetallican

Federica sits down on the table, her meal much tamer compared to the others, and begins studying the conversation. There is quite the degree of waryness among them. Seems like it comes with experience, no., as she begins eating slowly.

As soon as Gaius begins speaking, she stops eating and turns towards him, all her attention pointed towards him. "My path had been quite the brief and eventful one, indeed, Gaius.", she says, smiling.

Turning towards the others, she continues onwards. "I believe that, while important in itself, perhaps if we could have, all hands on deck, as the Navy puts it, would certaintly be wise, considering we're dealing with Xeno tech.", referring to her plans to go to the pylon. "If we are to take everyone, all the expertise among us would certainly give us an edge there, and I believe that planning and contact building could certainly be done from within the transport." And I haven't been terribly occupied these past weeks, I'm starting to lose the edge. Perhaps I could go and train with some of the stormtrooper regiments. Maybe another day., she continues.

Everyone ready to get started on the pylon mission? That's me being ready and suggesting that we all head there.

I'm ready.

Rakavet patted the heavy mutlilaser he used as his main weapon. Intricately crafted, the huge weapon ran from his own heavily enhanced potentia coil. It even had grav plating, to reduce it's bulk. "I am ready. Although I have not studied Xenotech to the degree that I could, my work primarily focusing on aiding the Malleus, I believe I should be of some help."
