Gern heard the crash and booming voice but never took his eyes of the lad with the kukri. It was a strange weapon for a lad to be using.

The moment the knife dropped from the girls face he rushed in, weapon swinging and noisless. Loud noise may make him flinch and drag that dagger back up.

Charge forwards 10 feet. Puts me right into the numbered square in that room. Attack the kukri wielder (whom I guessing is Hooky. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Stepping and looking around, Aerodus sees Gern now charging forward. He pulls his light mace out, ready to follow in lest anything occur.

Gripping his holy symbol, he whispers a quick prayer to Abadar.

Laijiri would like to think that it was a momentary decision, and that was how she would tell the story later, but it was a couple of seconds after she looked through the door to take in the scene. The spell was out of her mouth a second later, and aimed at the half-orc.

I don't understand neither: who is Hooky?

Frightened by the noise, Litsy turned around.

"Aerodus, Gern might need your help!" she shouted.

She rushed to a spot where she could aim correctly at the huge half-orc, and shot her arrow without ever thinking. He seemed really too dangerous.

Can it count as a sneak attack? Sorry to ask all these questions, I'm a bit uneasy with the map...

Sorry for the confusion, Hooky is the orphan with the kukri. He seems to be in league with the half-orc. As for helping Kaz, a well-placed ranged attack could be pretty useful. This map has a lot of chokepoints.

@ Litsy: I don't really like the map system I'm using either. If anyone has suggestions for what would make it more functional, please let me know. It's a little late in the game to change things for #17 Westpier, but there's a lot of maps still to come, and it'd be better to have maps that are functional.
@ Laijiri: I took the liberty of changing your initiative order so that your charm person actually does something. As it stood, Kazaradin was going to break it almost as soon as it was cast.
@ Aerodus: I thought being a cleric of Abadar granted proficiency with light crossbows to begin with. You shouldn't need to burn a feat on it.

Giggles Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

As Laijiri's spell sets in, the hulking half-orc begins lowering his flail and shield. Gern rushes "Hooky", the momentarily blinded kid with the kukri, who is unable to get out of the way of Gern's axe stroke. The blade catches him solidly in the side, leaving a large gash behind. Litsy looks back and forth, uncertain what to do, then takes aim at the half-orc. Her arrow, however, goes high, embedding itself in the doorframe. Aerodus loads his crossbow, struggling to bring it to bear as the fight begins. Kazaradin, however, has no such problems. Unsheathing his greatsword, he delivers a crushing blow to his flat-footed opponent. As Laijiri's spell sets in, the hulking half-orc begins lowering his flail and shield.
Orphan #1 Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 11

The larger orphan boy grabs his pitchfork, thrusting it at "Hooky". "Here's for my brother, cursed gnome!" His thrust barely misses the gnome. The smaller boy runs for the double doors, trying to open them, only to realize they're locked. Zavi runs behind the dwarf and through the door, only to stop suddenly as she encounters Laijiri.

The half-orc laughs even as Kazaradin's sword crashes into him. "Hahah! You think that hurt Giggles? Oooh, hahaha. Maybe a little..." Laijiri's charm sets in, however, and the half-orc finishes setting his flail down, looking at the Varisian woman as if wondering what to do next.

The gnome scrapes the slime from his face, slashing viciously at Gern's face. His aim is off, and the blade scrapes across the dwarf's armor instead.

Giorgio dashes forward, his feet sliding on the old wooden floor, and turns to face the door Gern went through. He'd begun muttering the words to a simple spell as he scampered forward, and upon seeing the gnome Gern was locked in combat with, completed the spell, flinging his left palm towards the slimed lowlife. A brief flare of sunlight plays across the sunburst insignia on his gauntlet, attempting to burn itself into the gnome's mind.

Laijiri swept her sister up into a tight hug, keeping the tears that threatened to fall away by a wash of anger. "Found you, munchkin", she smiled teasing her sister as if it were a game of tag. Nagha greeted her as well, curling around her neck like they did Laijiri's.

"Get the other kids out." She quickly relayed her address before she let her sister go reluctantly. "Giggles! It's dangerous in here for the kids! Listen to my sister, and help her get them out before they're hurt, would you? Come back once they're safe, okay?" With Giggles and Nagha at least escorting them off the pier, they were as safe as she could quickly think to make them.

Whether or not her sister took the spare dagger she kept along her leg was up to her, but she had something to settle with the rest of the trash here.

@ Aerodus: clerics are proficient with all simple weapons, including light and heavy crossbows.
@ Aest: thank you for understanding!

Knowing that his spell wouldn't work more than once, Giorgio turned his attention to more immediate and visceral matters. While his ally with the greatsword may have been strong, he was just as lightly armored as Giorgio. The inquisitor decided to bring his scimitar and shield into play, never truly intending to land a blow on the half-orc, just to try and keep him off-balance enough to not land a blow on Kazadarian.

Aid Another: Kazadarian gains +2 AC against Yargin's next attack, if Giorgio's attack roll beats AC 10.

I should clarify at this point for Litsy, since she seems concerned about killing children. Hookshanks, AK the "orphan" with teh Kukri, was a gnome. I would also like to apologize for not posting last night. The Paizo site was down due to a power outage.

Laijiri quickly shunts her sister toward the front door, familiar in tow. While she does this, Gern smashes his axe into the side of the gnome's head, killing it instantly. Litsy takes a quick shot at the charmed half-orc, but the arrow goes wide again. Aerodus also takes a shot, his flying over the now-downed gnome's head. Kazaradin steps around the now-complacent Giggles, swinging over Yargin's head as the criminal scum ducks. Giorgio aids Kaz in his efforts.

Zavi runs for the door, along with the smaller of the two orphan boys. The larger stabs at Hookshanks's corpse repeatedly, seemingly enraged.

The now-charmed Giggles makes his way outside, escorting Zavi and the orphan. Yargin, meanwhile, desperately fiddles with his wand again. Another gout of acid surges toward Kaz, but he manages to avoid it.

Litsy's shot catches the stylistically outdated Yargin in the arm, spinning him around into Kazaradin's massive blow. He screams and falls to the floor, bleeding from a massive slash across the chest.

Combat Over!

"Mister, mister! Thanks for the help with Hookshanks. Bastard killed my brother last week. Gutted him like a fish.... Name's Kester. You lookin' for someone specific here? Got lots of oprhans, but no dwarves." The bigger of the orphans, Kester, begins talking to Gern, eyeing the dwarf's weapon cautiously and edging toward the front door. Gern finds himself in a room with a large wooden trough filled with rancid fish and brine. The stink coming off it is repulsive. A pair of wooden chutes, empty for the night, lead off through holes to another room in the north, along with a dilapidated door.

Kazaradin notes a pair of bunk beds and a single boarded-over window int he room he's entered.

Zavi comes back in, staggering into Laijiri's arms for a longer hug. She seems a bit unsteady on her feet. The half-orc Giggles follows her obediently. The smaller of the orphan boys doesn't come back.

Feeling relieved, Litsy put her shortbow in her back. She then tried to recover the arrows which remained intact, and searched the corpses for useful stuff. Kneeling in front of the acid thrower, she stared at his wounded chest for a bunch of seconds, before starting to search him as well.

She didn't seem to pay attention to anybody.

Giorgio steels his emotions against the heartfelt reunions - they certainly weren't out of danger yet. He pressed an ear briefly to the each of the closed doors, listening for a few moments for the thud of approaching feet, or the cry of a raised alarm.

Hugging her dear little sister, Laijiri allowed herself a moment to rest on the temporary success of finding and freeing her sister. "I'm here, munchkin. We're almost done. Just one problem left to solve." She looked up to Giggles, not letting go of Zavi. "Thank you. You should leave this place and never return. I cannot and will not guarantee your safety."

Laijiri was not inclined to kill the half-orc. Not now. "Who remains here, and where is Lamm once you leave?"

Gern wiped his axe clean using a bit of the rags the kukri wielder had been wearing. He paid the body no more attention than that. Now he was dead, the man meant nothing to him for the moment.

He looked at the lad who had helped him in the fight, and lowered his axe a little.

"Ye've nothin' ter fear from me lad. Ye did good in a tight spot there, throwin' that muck in his face fer me to hit him upside tha head like that."

"Ye've avenged yer brother, and that's a good thing. Make sure ye let go o' the hate now, and drink a toast to his memory. Now me, I'm still huntin' at least one more scunner who took me own brother's life. Tell me Lamm is lad. Let me finish this so ye and the other baerns can be free o' this hell."

He was grim and determined. Lamm was his goal here and he wasn't losing site of it.

When the holy man stepped in though, he again remembered that others were looking for people here that might still be alive. He'd need be more careful of who he swung his axe at from now on.

The Once and Future Kingmaker Battle Maps, Kingmaker: Svetlana's Tale Battle Maps

"Giggles not allowed to go to Lamm. Lamm says Giggles make him sick. Hahaha! Lamm down below, but he's not sleeping. Not anymore. Hahahaha! Let Giggles think. Hookshanks, Yargin, Bloo, the new men, Lamm. New men and the other dog still. Giggles not like the new dog, not a good puppy like Bloo." Giggles grows somewhat sad upon talking about the new dog and the new men, and for the first time stops laughing all the time.

Kester the orphan, pale-faced from the violence he helped commit, takes a long look at Aerodus, scrunching his forehead together and glancing up to the left for a few seconds. "Imp'ria? Hmmmm. Let's see...if she looks anything like you, could be that girl what was always with Zav' over there. Impy, we called her. She'd probably still be in the workroom, through that door and down the stairs. Don' mind the smell, it's just fish. Least, I think it is..." The orphan boy points to the dilapidated old door to the north, next to the wooden trough of fish parts and a tall cabinet.

Listening to Gern talk, the boy nods his head. "Thanks, mister dwarf. Now, where Lamm is? Gee, that's a tough question. If you go into the room I pointed to Impy's...dad? If you go there, there's a hole in the floor. When we Lamms get too old or too uppity, Giggles lowers us down the hole and we're never seen again. Maybe Lamm's down there. Usually a boat's down there too. If it aint, I don't know what you'll have ta do." Having answered the questions, Kester makes for the door before turning. "What're we supposed to do now? Lamm wasn't exactly paradise, but it was better than starving on the streets. Barely..."

Zavi buries her head into Laijiri's stomach, tears streaming down her face. She clings tightly to her big sister.

"Got some stuff here. Does it interest anyone?"

She let her backpack open.

Kazadarin looks at the others then back to the half orc. "By his own admission he sends children to that bastage Lamm knowing the fate that awaits them."

The ranger lowers his hood and finally exposes his face to the others in the group. The entire right side of the young man's face is scar tissue, his right ear is missing and you can see his teeth through a hole in his cheek. "This is what awaits children that are sent to Lamm. If they are lucky enough to live."

Kazadarin points his great sword at the half orc and looks him in the eyes. "When it happened to me it was one called Kelper. He must be gone now, and this one took his place, but the crime is the same. He will not face justice at the hands of a guard. He will face justice at the hand of a Lamb."

[ooc]So, there are three options for doors. Two are in the room you first entered, while one (which Kester told you goes to the workfloor) leads from the upper workfloor, where Zavi was held hostage.)

Kazadarin looks down at the half orc for a moment before raising his hood back up to cover his face. "Justice is served."

The ranger bends down and cleans his blade on the half orc's tunic.

"Seems more like avenging," Litsy said.

She shrugged.

"But who could talk about trials in Korvosa anyway?"

She then looked at Zavi snuggling up to Laijiri.

"Question is... Who will watch over her?"

Kazadarin shrugs his shoulders at Tiny's words. "A lot of the times the two are one in the same."

"Friends, there are three doors. I may be selfish for asking this, but please, let us take this one." Aerodus points to the door that leads to where he was told Imperia is.

"Please, if you do not come with me, I will go alone..."

Kazadarin nods his head and moves to the door.

As Kaz moves toward the door, he can hear fragments of a whispered conversation. "You got those brats... from the door? Good. We'll let Rip loose...you stop them at the stairs, I'll...and shoot at them." He can also hear something sniffing and perhaps...growling, as well as the frightened yet tired sounds of newly-awakened children.

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I had a splitting headache and couldn't even look at the screen for more than a few minutes.

Kazadarin backs away from the door and holds up 2 fingers then 1 and points towards the dead dog. He then whispers to the others "They are going to try and hold us at some stairs and one will shot at us. Be ready."

Laijiri let her sister go, but kept Nagha where she was and told her to keep the dagger. "My sister is capable. Don't worry about her." To her sister, she murmured: "Stay in the back, and spot the bad guys. We'll take care of the rest." If she was a better sister, she would have thought about the effect that her sister witnessing something like this would have, but they were too far in.

Hope you are feeling better! =)

Litsy brandished triumphantly one of the tanglefoot bag in her right hand.

"Oh, but we could use this!"

And the wand in her left hand.

"And that!!... Oh! Wait! We could also throw that thunderstone at them..."
