Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

South of the free city of Endhome, east of the King’s Road and Trader’s Way, north of the Forlorn Mountains, and west of the sea, these lands comprise what are known today as the Sundered Kingdoms, a half-wild
land of scattered towns and villages, a handful of independent city-states, and few formal borders. It is a land where giants still roam the mountains, trolls prowl the hills, and unknown beasts walk in the night, a land where villagers huddle after dark around crackling fires behind puny palisades while lords remain in their castles and try to ignore the strange cries and screams that come from outside. It is a land of old kingdoms shattered by war, new alliances formed for survival, and black-hearted cults that beseech their dark lords for favor and power. It is the Sundered Kingdoms.

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

“Good day, sirs and ladies. You look as though you may be new to Endhome. My name is Corlius and for a few small coins I can guide you to a good inn, to the Wizards’ Academy, or any place else you need to go.”
In front of you stands a boy of about nine or ten years, barefoot but cleaner than most. Furthermore, he is in front of you politely getting your attention rather than behind you picking your pocket. Perhaps having a local guide would be useful today, even if it is just a boy. You exchange glances with your companions. It is not that none of you have ever been in a city before, but Endhome is large and inns not exactly in evidence here by the gate. You’d rather not have to search the whole city for one before the dinner hour.

Retired to SUMITHA

did we all get off a boat together or walk through city gates together, do you want to open the discussion thread so we can get our backstories straight?

Elek watches the boy 'I wonder if he is on the level and willing to work for a few coppers or if he is leading us into a trap, smiling 'I wonder what the thief's in this 'city' consider tough'

Elek turns looking at his companions, "We'll what are we waiting for?"

sense motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 does the boy seem to be on the up and up?

looking at the boy face hidden within deep hood of his cloak "Yes Lad...please guide us to a reasonably priced inn."

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

The boy looks at your group appraisingly. “I’d say the King’s Road Inn would be the likeliest place for ones such as yourselves. You’re obviously not merchants, and I’d say you’re looking for more in life than just a caravan to guard. On the other hand, you don’t look like ones who want to squander your gold just for a showy dinner or a bed with elegant curtains. King’s has tasty food, even if it’s not fancy, and decent rooms for a reasonable price. Not only that but it is frequented by folks with adventurous spirits, like you, so you can share news and exchange tales. Shall I guide you to the King’s Road Inn?”

'obviously not merchants, and I’d say you’re looking for more in life than just a caravan to guard, oh how much this boy has to learn' Following behind the tattooed unarmed half-orc, Vaunu points out to the boy. "Son we are the very appearance of a wise merchant, and why would a life as a caravan guard not be desired by all? To keep Sefagreth's commerce and trade moving from city to city, is there any greater calling?"

Smiling that he has provided this well meaning youth with wisdom to live by, he nears his friend Tork, "Oletko varma, että et halua käyttää kirves Tork? En tiedä, jos se on turvallista täällä kaduilla Endhome?"

orcish:
"Are you sure you don't want to use the axe Tork? I don't know if it's safe here on the streets of Endhome."

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

Baalîantar says to both Vannu and Tork, with a grin:
"Ei ole mitään vikaa hyvä kirves!
Pidän minun ex, minä!"

Orcish:
"There's nothing wrong with a good axe!
I like my ax, I do!"

I guess Finnish works as well as any language for Orcish

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

Looking at Vaunu and Baalîantar, the boy is now wondering if he picked the wrong group to come up to and gulps! "Please sirs, did not mean to offend." He is obviously scared to death!

Baalîantar wrote:

I like it cause the letters are still ledgible but it is very odd, also it make it easy to find a name, Vaunu Tarkkailija is "wagon watcher,'

Vaunu smiles at the boy, unintentionally showing more of his tusks, "You did not offend boy, not everyone aspires to be a caravan guard, but it is a wonderful profession, very fulfilling!"

Vaunu, always a fan of cities, the domain of his god, watches where they are going with great interest.

perception: first block: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 yep that right, ten and twelve for anything hidden

and the watches some more,

perception: second block: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 I could do this all day

and some more,

perception: third block: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 OK, I admit it, it's getting a little redundant.

is it just me or were those terrible rolls?

Giving a small smile to his fellow half-orcs "Weapons and I never got along too well." says the unarmed Monk in Orcish

"I think the two of you carry enough weaponry to scare any ruffians off"

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

"Don't worry, Corlius! We were just having a little joke. Here's a silver for you, for starters. Take us to where we can get some good grub. But not too expensive. I'm hungry and thirsty, but not rich."

Addressing the others in Common, Baalîantar says: "Don't be too stingy with this lad. I think we scared him enough already."

Tork the wanderer wrote:

Vaunu nods as Torks explains 'never got along with weapons, how odd, I just assumed he carried his weapons hidden like those Halfling fellas you hear tell about' Vaunu asks in common carefully so not to offend his new friend or scare the little human, "Get along too well, you mean just with the big obvious ones," hefting his axe, "Or not any at all?"

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

“Very well then, gentlefolk, just follow me!” The boy proudly starts off, giving his explanations in a raised voice that carries well, and now and then showing an excellent ability to also walk backward without tripping over any of the hazards common to a city street. “The South Gate here comes into Endhome from the Soldier’s Road, which as you know runs along the coast of the Sinnar Ocean. Going north out of Endhome the road is called Trader’s Way, but it’s the same road. Going through the city it is called Wayfarer’s Way, and it goes back and forth a bit to take in some of the sights. Crossing this road in the middle of the city is the King’s Road which stretches from Endhome by the sea far to the west. The King’s Road Inn is just outside the West Gate, along that highway.”

Looking around the city, Tarkus only half heard the conversations of the half-orc tribunal and the human lad.

~Inn...chow...drink. Good enough for me~

While he could not match the longer strides of the half-orcs in the open roads coming into the city, their advantage over him was mitigated due to the slower pace of the lad leading them, as well as the maneuvering of the local city dwellers.

~Three half-orcs and a dwarf walk into a bar...~

Chuckling to himself, Tarkus continued with the group and kept his eyes open for destination.

Answering Vaunus question "the Great Cats of the rolling plains need no weapons crafted in the fires of a Forge. Neither do I. "

Holding up his hands "these are the claws of a lion cub at this point. But someday I will Roar. And on that day Chieftain One-Eye of the Red Arrows will rue the day he drove me to exile "

You then hear a barely audible growl. yup Tork is a strange bird

“This part of town is really the worst to see first; the north and west look much better. They say crime is really bad around here, and a lot of poor people live in this area. They have someone new to help them, though; a new priest at the Temple of Solanus. You can just see the temple past the other buildings there.” The boy gestures to the east, but down the alley all you see in a simple stone building, perhaps a little taller than the ones around it but not up to what you usually expect from a temple. “Father Beamus is really good and tries to do a lot for the people around here. Further along to the northeast is the Temple of Jamboor and the priestess there, Elan Kanto, has been taking in some folks without any homes but one temple can’t care for all of them so it’s a good thing Father Beamus is here.”

Vaunu smiles and nods as Tork shares a little of his life's story, holding up his beefy orc hands 'no need for weapons, huh, so not like those sneaky halflings, well it sounds like he fights honorably then' shaking his head, "Exiled, that's bad business, everyone needs a people. My parents were both half-orc caravan guards, I grew up on the road, but we had our clan, our entire tribe of half-orcs travel as guards and teamsters."

Not ignoring the info that Corlius is giving us, will ask questions soon.

Male Dwarf Dwarven Rogue 1: | HP 10/10 | AC 17, T 13, FF14 | Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +3 | Init+3, Perception +7

Resisting the urge to check his almost depleted coin purse, Tarkus tried to focus more on the buildings the lad was pointing out to them as they walked. While his interests had always ran more to the mechanical aspects of building, causing many in his clan to joke that there was gnomish blood in his veins somewhere, it did not mean that he could not appreciate good craftsmanship when he say it.

~Not something we would build, but it will keep the rain from their heads.~

Chiding himself for his snobbish thoughts, Tarkus could not blame the shorter lived races for not understanding the proper way to work with stone. Dwarves in his clan apprenticed for almost a century before they were allowed to do more than excavate stone from a quarry, much less begin shaping the stone for building.

"I agree that a person without the strength of the clan behind them is like a forge that has gone cold."

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

"I grew up on the road too. Never welcome for long because of what I am. My Mum's doing okay now with her new husband. But I got bored and decided to travel on my own for a while."

Then addressing his young guide, Baalîantar asks "Tell us, Corlius, where do mostly harmless travellers, like us, go to look for work?"

Vaunu looks sadly at Baaliantar, then smiles and says "You can join our tribe, we welcome any half-orc that is willing to be a member of the guild."

'I wouldn't consider myself harmless, but I intend to do no harm' nodding his head in agreement with Baaliantar question, Vaunu listens for more information.

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

"There are sometimes postings at the bazaar for hire."

We can always use more good hands in the guild, and it's a good place to belong.' Vaunu stops and listens to their diminutive guide. 'Jobs posted at the bazaar, I wonder if any of them will be caravans going someplace.' Calling out to the boy, "Hey Corlius once you show us the 'Kings Road' and an inexpensive place to stay, could you then take us back to the bazaar." Then, before he forgets to ask he continues "Oh, by the way can you tell me where the temple for Sefagreth is? He loves cities!"

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

"That sounds like a good idea. And anyway, Corlius, is there a temple to Mithras round here? Doesn't hurt to pay respects."

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

"No, but there is a temple to Freya!"

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

"First things first; we just need to find some work!"

Male Dwarf Dwarven Rogue 1: | HP 10/10 | AC 17, T 13, FF14 | Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +3 | Init+3, Perception +7

"I may be outvoted, but I still think a meal and a drink to wash the taste of the road from our mouths are in order before we rush to the bazaar boards. We may lose an hour, but we may gain a better feel for the city as well from the people around us. Taverns are the hearts of cities, even the gods could not dispute that fact."

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

"That's not a bad idea either. I am feeling a bit peckish too."

"Inn sounds good. Hungry"

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

“Now, sirs and ladies,” Corlius ends with a flourish, “that concludes our tour of Endhome and its environs. It has been my pleasure to guide you today, and I hope to have the opportunity again in the future. Come right inside here and allow me to introduce you to Barnky, the innkeeper.”
Introductions made, the lad stands waiting expectantly though he is not so crass as to actually hold out his hand. His eyes grow wide when one of your companions, in a generous mood with supper on the horizon, hands him a gold coin instead of the copper he was expecting.
“Thank you very kindly, sirs and ladies!” Corlius says. “Freya’s blessings upon you.” Then at a nod from Barnky he scampers off in the direction of the kitchen, obviously hoping for some berry pie.

Following the half-orcs Rhiannon walks into the inn and orders a glass of red wine before laying down a deck of cards.

Male Dwarf Dwarven Rogue 1: | HP 10/10 | AC 17, T 13, FF14 | Fort +2, Ref +5, Will +3 | Init+3, Perception +7

Watching the lad head to the kitchen, Tarkus followed the Rhian-non to an empty table and placed his empty pack on the floor beside him. As the human woman pulled out her cards, Tarkus arched an eyebrow up at her.

"Planning on reading the runes for our meal, or just looking to tell some poor bloke a tall dark stranger is soon to come into their lives?"

While Tarkus had as much respect for the supernatural as the next dwarf, enough to realize there was more to the world than hammer and stones, he still trusted more in the things he could shape with his hands, or disassemble with his tools, than things he could not see with his natural sight.

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

Acquiring rooms for a few nights is a simple procedure; despite the number of people in the courtyard, the inn has rooms aplenty. It is not even too costly; only 8 silvers each for a room, plus three more for meals for a day. Barnky even offers that Mistress Greythorn and her kitchen staff are willing to package up some cheese and bread, and whatever meat might be available, for folks to carry with them if they are planning to be in Endhome for the noon meal instead of at the inn. “You just have to give ’em some warning,” the man tells you solemnly; “Mistress Greythorn is a good woman, but she doesn’t much like surprises.”

Taking the coins out to give to Barnky, Tarkus once more tries to ignore the near emptiness of the pouch.

~There will be coin when there is coin.~

"Mister Barnky, do you happen to know who we could speak with for work outside of the postings on the bazaar listings? An inn as busy as this must see all types come and go and perhaps some have requested extra assistance along the way?"

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

Baalîantar will pay for lodging and food for one day (11 SP). And order a jollly nice pie (the whole thing) for dinner (1 SP?)

He will then address Rhîan-nôn:"Hello! I'm Baalîantar. I'm handy with this axe here," pointing to his greataxe, as if anyone could miss it … " and a few other things. How about you? Are you looking for work here, like the rest of us?"

'That is a reasonable cost for a private room, however being frugal is a virtue and I do not need a private room.' Vaunu bows to the slightly to the innkeeper "My pleasure master innkeeper, I am Vaunu, a servant of Sefagreth, we appreciate you letting us stay in your establishment. Would you perchance have a common sleeping room or a room for several people so we can share thc cost of rooms?"

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

"You can sleep in the barn for 5 SP."

Looking up from the cards Rhiannon will a morsel to the trush sitting on her shoulder before speaking. "I see. Well I am not handy with an axe. Obviously. But I have many talents. The forces of luck .. and bad luck are on my command. And I know many an usefull spell."
Paying the 11 silver Rhiannon smiles sadly. Her pouch is now almost empty too.

Male Half-Orc Skald (inactive)

"Good! Looks like we have talents available to make some money! Should we look for work today, or tomorrow?

"At least we have somewhere comfy to sleep, and eat. For now."

I think you misread that slightly.

We will call it late in the afternoon so you have a little time to explore.

the map for Endhome is nice, where abouts is the inn and can we assume it is time for the evening meal and bed?

edit:Vaunu i think brvheart is saying that we have some time to explore the city. I may be wrong..my reading comprehension seems a little off today. but I think I'm right let's explore shall we? But where to?

The inn is just outside the west gate.
