Oh, right. No, we don't have the sapphires actually. Removing the gear we sold was the last step. At the time there was no way to know we would be needing them :(
And Sam is a bit tricky. I've asked about it before and Sam hasn't gotten back to me but from a roleplay perspective, there's no way Damien is going to wait for one member of the group to slow us down purely because he's lugging too much gear around.
If I remember correctly, his plan was to give some of his stuff to another person or put it on the mule, I just haven't gotten a list of what items are included...

Sam did want to buy a riding dog. His ride is +10. He was trying to ride the dog they found a while ago, but I think that didn't work out.
If necessary, he can forego the silver sword.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Well, you have more than enough money to have picked up a riding dog. I bet DMG will let you retcon it.
As far as just removing equipment. It'll take more than the sword, you're about 19lbs into your medium load :P
P.S. Looking at you sheet, do you remember where you got the brass key from? I remember it being fairly early on but not much else.
Edit : Caught a bookkeeping error, saved you 3lb on the waterskin :)

Sam has always been encumbered I think. Logan1138 pointed it out during the first round of audits back in the recruitment thread, and I try to bring it up about once per level in case you want to adjust for it Sam. I just trust that your applying penalties to the applicable rolls, but I do often forget to factor in the slowed movement when calculating travel times.

But there's new gear I don't see on listed too, those tar bombs are heavy. Can't check the numbers, I'm at work, but Sam is carrying way to much gear for his strength score I think. Probably getting close to a heavy load.
Just put some stuff on the donkey why don't you sam? And yeah of course you can buy a dog (or ride Vhillish's dog) but you may as well get rid of those penalties to some good skills too, no? Your call of course.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Oh yeah. I thought I had updated from the profile just a couple weeks ago. Did you forget to mention some purchases Sam?
And that's right, technically we do still have Topper. He just hasn't been mentioned in a while!
In the end, it's a matter of talking about these things guys. Communication is key! Post post post about things. The biggest thing is getting back to people's questions, I've seen a lot of them go unanswered. Even if you simply agree with someone's suggestion. Post your agreement! It's very helpful.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Perfect, thanks DMG. just wanted to check on it.
And thanks for the catch on Sam's purchases, didn't notice it at the start of the post :P
Edit : Updated. And yeah, that puts Sam just short of a heavy load.
I realize the most likely solution is to simply store some gear on Lucky 7 or another party member. Just need a list of which items from Sam.

OOC I reckon sam and then Vhillish should secure the watchtower roof. Preferably with Sam taking the rope because its less noisy than the grapple. They have the best climb.
If there are crennelations on the curtain walls then maybe the rest wait for Jerrid's diversion and either go over or force the door since Damien is pretty strong.
But before that I'd recommend watching the whole place for a day and night to see who or what we may face. If we can grab someone off a patrol without them guessing then so much the better. Is that what you meant Janna or did you mean a short watch until midnight or if Jerrid had his way dawn?
Jerrid will do whatever you guys want though, he owes you all that for saving his life.
Cheers

FW makes some excellent points.
As far as the pre-attack reconnaissance goes, how about we wait until just before dawn and see what we've observed. From there we can decide to make the attack or keep waiting. Waiting till dawn also ensures that Leo can customize his spell list for the attack.
Sam scaling the watchtower with a rope actually sounds like an excellent idea. In fact, I would suggest Vhillish give him the ring of climbing for the attempt.
If the cage is tied off at the tower roof, it stands to reason that there is a hatch into the tower from the roof. Provided Sam can confirm this once he reaches the top, I say the entire group, sans Jerrid make the climb and enter that way. Possibly with the stealthier members of the group clearing the top level first before Kev and Leo make the attempt, just in case.
Sound good to everyone?

good plan, glad I thought of it :)

The Dawn Plan
1 - Jerrid provides distraction at gates - probably an obscuring mist or smokestick etc then hides as best he can.
2 - Sam then Vhillish climb up stealthily into watchtower.
3 - Damien, Kev, Janna, Leo climb in over curtain wall.
Not sure what is happening now since Vhillish and DMG are moving things along.
Cheers

Sorry guys... happy to retcon or slot my stuff in at the correct juncture. Not wanting to upset a carefully planned applecart whot?
Vhillish wouldn't sneak off on his own so likelihood is that my actions are nixed/delayed.
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
just a reminder that I leave tomorrow for here, I don't know about how often I will be online.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Okay, I see two decent options here.
We move Vhillish's actions forward to dawn and simply use them where appropriate. I don't think there's any problem with him going up before Sam so it should just be a time thing.
Alternatively, we can just roll with it. Say we've decided to move now and use Vhillish's actions as step one? Sam, Jerrid, and I follow him up, being the stealthier members of the team. From there we clear the top level of the tower, where the voices are coming from, preferably without raising an alarm. Janna, Leo and Kev follow up the rope. So long as we hold the top of the tower, we prevent them from loosing the cockatrices. The tower itself is s great place to hold off more opposition.
It's not quite the plan we'd hoped for, but I'd lean towards the second option. We've already started down this path, and when in doubt it's generally best to avoid retconning too much in pbp. By my estimation, it's still a pretty decent plan that puts us in a solid position. Not to mention sets us in the middle of some developments that might prove very interesting.
What do you guys think?
Vhillish Quarrelwick |
To be fair at the moment the good serjeant is merely hunkering down in overwatch mode. Would probably make sense to assume a sniping position under the cover of darkness rather than at dawn and risk more chance of detection??

What about this... stick with Dawn plan, but Vhillish has just climbed the tower to get a better vantage point of what is happening between the donjon and the courtyard..
He can always climb back down to report if Damien doesn't have message running.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Okay then. Well if we're assuming everyone was on board with the Deputy's recon, Damien would have cast message before Vhillish went up.
That does raise the question of where the rest of us are? If we're committing the deputy to the tower, Damien would want everyone close by. The range on message is only 130ft at this level.
I admit I still have some reservations about him sitting on the tower alone for any length of time. Not to mention risking multiple trips up and down. Really don't want to alert them early.
Honestly, I'd still vote we just roll with it and go now. It sounds like Kev agrees. Fitting the tower climb into the original plan just raises a lot of logistic questions for me. What about everyone else?
Vhillish Quarrelwick |
Like I said am good with whatever the greater good decides :)
Bottom line am happy to up and down as required - with my Stealth and Climb checks (+12 and +8 respectively i'll likely be up and down nae bother - IF there's a monumental feck up, am happy to burn a hero point to (hopefully) avoid detection...
Jerrid Kinslarn |
I'd prefer Vhillish came back down after a quick shufti around and then go with the plan. That kind of fits with our original plan. But it does increase the chance of him being spotted second time around.
Cheers

Enjoy your trip Edward!
Should we bot Janna for the next bit then?
Bottling would be good

Well, still not back at my computer guys, but tomorrow for sure.
I took a train in to the venue monday and left my car and CPU at my grandmothers house out in the suburbs so I don't have to stress about it's whereabouts as I work. So I'm just popping online from co-workers smartphones during smoke-breaks and stuff like that.
Definitely going back to my CPU tomorrow though for sure.
