Hey guys, it looks like DMG is experiencing some personal troubles. If you haven't already, head over to the main campaign thread and to see his message.
Hopefully this isn't the end of our little adventure...at least not permanently.
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
hi there I am back just forgot that I need to refresh so I get updates again.
DM Grimmy |
So let's do that thing like you do when you sit down at the table after not having a session for a while. Like "Previously, on Lost" or whatever.
You guys got the gem back that Lannet stole and sold to the wizard right? Mr. Bojangles had it? So presumably those sketchy merchants henchman back in town won't have to kill him.
The stirgemaster is slain. There are still a few rats about but they won't be bringing about stirge-pocalypse, they were just helping out in exchange for a magic item he lent them IIRC. Anyone remember what it was?
Jerrid and Astor went on to Crimmor to warn them about the stirge plot I think.
What else? Vortigern is still at large but he doesn't have the amulet correct? The Keep awaits.
Damien's cat is missing, Vhillish's dog is still here.
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
Vortigern has a fake amulet
Correct on jerrid and astor
But thats all i remember
Vhillish Quarrelwick |
Really hope that Damien comes back also - him and Vhillish are such the duo.
Will need to look over the thread again - but up to my eyes with work (on call over the New Years and still dealing with issues in the oilfield)
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
Damien has not posted at all since Sept in any thread that I have seen so far.

usually a post in gameplay does the trick

Apologies for the delay, I've been rather far afield of the paizo forums lately but I'm certainly not about to let you all soldier on without me!
Happy new year to everyone! I look forward to gaming with you all again!
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Your summary fits with my memory of things DMG. Can't wait to find out what that damn cat is up to :)
I'm excited to see we have nearly everyone still accounted for. No word from Astor yet then?
DM Grimmy |
Damien your post gave me a few things to consider rulings wise.
As far as I can tell RAW intimidate in combat is only useful for giving the shaken condition. "Influence an Oponents Attitute" requires 1 minute of conversation. From the context of your post though I thought you wanted to use it to get Crooktooth to surrender, something I always thought intimidate should be a good way to do.
I see a 3PP optional extra rule called "Quick Coercion" which addresses this. They make it 2d4 rounds for +10 to the DC, or Full-Round Action for +20 to the DC. Still practically unusable IMO. I'd like to use their DC guidelines but lessen the cumbersome action economy cost. Maybe move action for +10 DC and free action for +15-20. Or standard +10, move +15. Something like that.
Therefore the DC for the check you attempted might be as low as 25 which you rolled. However I couldn't figure out why you applied a size bonus. So for now I just gave Crooktooth the shaken condition.
As for the illusion, my inclination here, and what I know folks at my home table would expect, is that Crooktooth would count as having interacted with that illusion and get his will save. However I'm not sure if other PF GM's would rule the same way and I know we haven't spoken as a group about the topic of illusion spells. So if this ruling surprises you let me know and we'll hash it out.
Let's go with the way I did things for this time though and keep it moving. I just want to make sure we all know what to expect goin forward.
Now... who is packing silver?
I feel like Vhillish had blanched his bolts? Or Samduc? Anyone remember?

Vhillish did indeed Blanche his bolts sah! Although we gentlemen don't speak of such things in the company of the fairer sex... whot-whot!
Alas he used the last on the last round so he's out of coated ammo.
Damien had 3/10 as did Sam 3/10 and Vhillish with 4/10 (all used)
- With regards the size bonus to Intimidate - presume that the good Lieutenant has presumed that these are ratfolk or halfling lycanthropes (Small Size) rather than Wererats (Med)
DM Grimmy |
I think you are going to need those bolts, let's say 50% were retrieved during a lull in combat (while Damien is browbeating Crooktooth). That goes for Sam too if he has used his 3.
I guess Damien has probably fired his or he wouldn't have switched to the hammer, right? So that's...
Ammo: 1d100 ⇒ 77
Ammo: 1d100 ⇒ 49
Ammo: 1d100 ⇒ 35
...2 more in the field retrieved by Sam and Vhillish while Damien kept Crooktooth busy.
DM Grimmy |
Everyone else, I know its been a long time but do your best to take stock of where you're at on expendable resources.
I have conditions tracked on the battle map but not party HP damage. All of your mini-stats but Damien's say full HP, can that be right after 12 rounds of combat? I guess maybe with Leo around it could be right...
DM Grimmy |
Yeah I just re-read the whole battle. I am all caught up now I think.
The hit points are correct, everyone is all healed up except Damien, Jerrid and Astor.
Janna has 5 zappy bolts left. Kevezyat already used her smite. She can action point to get it back if she needs to.
Remember Leo has the pearl of power if he wants to recover a spell like Bless or something.
By my count Sam fired 2/3 silver bolts and gave the other to Lannet (who also fired his).
Vhillish fired his 4 (like he said above).
But unless I missed something Damien only shot two, he still has one. Maybe he switched to hammer because his dex is so low right now.
So there are seven more bolts out there in the rat corpses.
Bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 20
Bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 17
Bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 66
Bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 43
Bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 70
Bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 7
Bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 41
5 more recovered, plus the 2 I rolled before.
7 total to split between the rest of you how you wish. And Damien is holding 1.
We will say a little time passed, a lull in the battle, but we will keep the initiative and positioning as it is now for simplicity of resuming gameplay.
Just to remind you guys, the enemies were ID'd as were-rats earlier via knowledge checks. So you are aware of the DR. So Leo you should consider something else to do on your turns, the crossbow shots you are taking have no hope of doing any damage.
If things go really bad I may bot Astor to help.

My aim is for this battle to be not too drawn out or lethal, just a workout to shake out the lead and get refreshed on how you work together as a team, before we get on with the story.
But with DR opponents in the mix, against such an under equipped party, at the end of a long taxing adventuring day... could be dangerous! Remember to choose your actions carefully and make the most of your limited resources.
Janna - The Storm Maiden |
hey all a little RL emergency yesterday.. getting better today so catching up some.I still am trying to re-visualize the situation.
DM Grimmy |
Take your time. Map is still up if it helps paint the picture.
There's a big flock of sedate stirges lined up sucking on dead pigs. The stirge guy had sent a were-rat rogue and some kind of evil baby treant to bring more pigs for the stirges that had sucked theirs dry. That's when you guys struck (you had been lurking, waiting for their numbers to thin.)
You guys have fought a few waves of baddies now, including the 10 or so stirges that were out of pigs blood, 3 rat witches, and the stirge-wizard. Everyone is down now except one were-rat rogue, but he seems to be signaling to hidden bad guys, so perhaps that means the ones who were sent to bring more pigs have returned.
That's about it, basically you foiled a mad plot to wipe out Crimmor and Fairhill with stirge-pocalypse, all while you were galavanting through the woods to recover a gem Lannet sold so you can give it back to the thugs sent by the merchant he stole it from.
Vhillish Quarrelwick |
Cheers for the synopsis thus far DMG.
Not wanting to crap in our own nest... but weapon's blanch are only good for 1 attack. So those bolts that hit are strictly defunct... not sure if we want to waive this or House Rule but thought I'd flag it up. Straight shooting and play by the book and all that whot-whot!
Sam - how do you want to split the 7 recovered bolts (if we can reuse)?
With regards tactics - IF the Stirge Wizard is amongst the reinforcements we need to drop him quick, will hopefully stop the stirges being controlled and they may attack ratters as much as posing a threat to us.
DM Grimmy |
Ugh see I told you I'm rusty on rules. Let's call it 3 recovered bolts then. The misses.
Have an action point for the honesty Vhillish.
So that's 3 silver bolts to split up and Damien has 1. Make 'em count.
Now as for Yandarll the Stirge-wizard... he is dead. Sam and Kevezyat stormed him in the mist. Sam got the killshot. He has a new feat this level so that concealment doesn't thwart his sneak attack.
Sam has pocketed the stirgebaton, and all stirges on the field are sedately suckling on pigs (they almost seem drugged).
Also, everyone still has yellow thimble weed reeking from their pores, with the exception of Leo, Astor and Lannet.
Damien "Wet" Winters |
Honesty strikes again :P
Damien does have one bolt left, too bad I dropped my crossbow a few rounds back :P
At least my hammer still has some chance of cutting through the DR.
On the topic of Intimidate : You raise a good point, we should hash out a codified way of doing things.
For the most part, I just tend to throw in rolls that the DM might rule applicable, to be ignored if not needed. It does seem strange that there is no official way to at least attempt to sway opinion in combat.
The good sergeant is correct, I had misremembered Crooktooth as a small opponent. Disregard the +4

Sah! Thank you sah!
Cool on the Stirges - was a little rusty also on who killed what and what fled (and may have come back again)
Sam - how you want to split the 3 bolts?

At emergency room will hopefully post later
