Thank you!
A weathered grey and dark grey tengu wearing well-worn but cared-for studded leather makes his way on in, finding a good corner to appraise every other occupant of the room with a wary eye.
If someone braves approaching him, he has an bitter black hot drink in his hands that never seems to empty, even as he takes several large sips from it.
"Gibbs" is what he'll offer, though if that's a description of what he does or his name is uncertain.
Jidai Oyuki |
An attractive young woman with black hair braided into a single, long braid sits cross-legged on the floor, her palms open to the sky and her eyes closed.
She bears a simple holy symbol of Irori around her neck. A large book is open before her, and sharp eyes discern Unbinding the Fetters to be the title.
She ignores the other Pathfinders as they enter the room.
Thanks so much!!! :)
Yyrkoon D'Imrryr |
Awesome, thanks
A well dressed elf saunters into the room to await the confirmation activities. His limited equipment and arms suggests more of academic (or perhaps arcane) pursuits within the pathfinder ranks, although he projects an air of confidence most greenies lack. Seeing the Tengu in the corner, he wonders over to make introductions ...
"Well met sir ... I am Yyrkoon of the Dreaming City ..."
Guntir Mithralfist |
A dour, balding, wide-shouldered dwarf sits at the table, a massive axe strapped to his back over a finely crafted breastplate. He grimaces at his mug and stares at the far wall as if trying to glare it away. Those nearby can hear the words he mumbles, while those further away hear only a deep rumbling sound, like deep voices speaking in another room. He shakes his head as he lifts his mug to his lips, "Waiting again. They always run late, yes they do..."

"Evening. Gibbs." It's a simple response to the elven magus. "Something I can help you with?"
The tone is a bit coarse, much like he's forcing himself to be polite and not very good at it. Not in the harried archivist sort of matter, but in that gruff way that someone who as Seen Things and doesn't have patience for a lot of talking might.
Gravedigger Ianto - |
Thanks also.
Ianto rises as other Pathfinders enter, shifting his leather storm hood further back on his rough woolen smock. Extending a dirty, callused hand in greeting, "My name is brother Ianto. We were told that we were expecting others, but not whom we were expecting. Welcome."
GM DevilDoc |
The invitation delivered last night was remarkably simple, especially given the importance of the occasion: “Start where it all began. Meet us at the Pig’s Paunch one hour before dawn.” The Pig’s Paunch is a run-down building with a faded sign of a large pig standing on its hind legs, arms folded above a corpulent belly. Inside, the air is thick with the scents of human sweat, stale tobacco, and leftover food. In the center of the room, surrounded by inebriates sleeping off their revelries, a familiar elven man stands high upon top of a large round table.
“Welcome! Welcome, my students! Please, have a seat!” With that, Kreighton Shaine, the Pathfinder Society’s Master of scrolls, nimbly drops down to sit cross-legged on the table before looking about the tavern with a sense of reverent wonder. “Can you believe it? It all started here years ago—well, over four hundred of them at least. Under this very roof the Pathfinder Society was born. But today! Today you will begin your Confirmation! Master Farabellus, Master Zey, and I all agree you each have shown your worth and dedication to the Society, so there’s no better time to see if you can handle becoming full field operatives. Allow me to introduce you to Janira Gavix,” he says as he motions for an excitable halfling woman to approach. She wears a large backpack and carries all manner of tools, pouches, and scroll cases around her waist.
Shaine continues, saying, “Janira here will be going with you on your Confirmation. She was one of my brightest pupils and will no doubt be an invaluable resource on your journey, for she discovered the caves you are about to explore during her own Confirmation.” Janira speaks up in an enthusiastic and cheerful voice, “Greetings, aspiring Pathfinders! Six months ago, while I was mapping cave entrances in the foothills of the Kortos Mounts, I witnessed a lone gillman entering a concealed cave. I thought little of it at the time, but I saw another one enter the cave again a month later as my Confirmation stretched on. A few days later, after I completed my assigned task, I entered the cave system, but was unable to find the gillmen.”
Master Shaine hops to his feet. “Initiates, for your Confirmation, you will travel to these caves to explore and document its many passages. Additionally, and most importantly, you are to learn what the gillmen are up to in there. Oh, and you need to come back alive as well.” With these parting words, the Master of Scrolls jumps off the table and strolls out of the building while humming to himself, leaving Janira to answer any questions that you might have.
Guntir Mithralfist |
Guntir throws back the rest of his ale and leans back in his chair. He pauses a moment, grunts, and then days "How far is this cave?"

Yyrkoon D'Imrryr |
"Yes ... well as long as it isn't another sewer ... when do we begin?"
Zykon Gibbs |
"What kind of equipment load-out you recommend for this, and will we have time to go pick it up?"
Zykon will start picking up his stuff, leaving the spot he was sitting at neater than it was and ready to get moving.
Gravedigger Ianto - |
Ianto stands silently at the back.

Janira nods her head at the questions. "All very good questions. For supplies, there will be caves involved, so ropes and light might be helpful. I have never been in the caves so I do not know what we are going to face in there. It will be a full days hard travel to get there, and we may have run ins with some of the creatures in the wild between here and there, but if we are quick about it, we can pick up some supplies on our way out of the city."
Guntir Mithralfist |
Guntir clears his throat loudly. I have some rope also, and a torch. I'll be buying a few more on our way out. Best be getting on if it will be all day. He stands up and walks towards the door.
Will buy 4 more torches, swap the Hemp Rope I have now for Silk Rope, and also will buy a Silvered Dwarven Longhammer.
Jidai Oyuki |
Jidai opens her eyes and rises from the ground as Janira enters and the group discusses the mission.
She appears to be a serious but kind young woman. She scribbles down notes as they discuss what they might encounter.
"I am also equipped with rope and a light source. Irori's teaches preparation on the path to perfection. I am Jidai Oyuki," she says by way of introduction to Janira and the other Pathfinders.
Zykon Gibbs |
"We're documenting? Going to need something to write with and some paper."
Zy will pick up 10 sheets of paper, chalk, 50 feet of silk rope, black ink, and a potion of Cure Light Wounds.
"Know a guy that follows Irori. Always on top of his game." The tengu will nod approvingly, though he doesn't volunteer anything else in terms of faith at the moment.
Yyrkoon D'Imrryr |
Well ... it is good to see that we will have plenty of rope ..."
Yyrkoon grins as the party members scurry about shopping ...
Gravedigger Ianto - |
Ianto fishes a piece of coal from the brazier, intending to draw his map on the back of his shovel.
GM DevilDoc |
As the group finishes up their shopping and heads out toward the city gates, Janira explains the quest a little more specifically. “On to the details of the mission at hand. After reviewing my mission reports personally, Master Shaine believes it is no coincidence that each time they entered the caves it was during a full moon, so it is also no coincidence that you have been called here now, just a day before the moon is full again. We both believe that tomorrow night is our best chance to find out why these caves are important and what exactly the gillmen are doing in there. The caves we’ll be travelling to lie under the base of the Kortos Mounts. We’ll need to spend every minute of daylight possible to reach the caves by foot, crossing over the Cairnlands, taking the paths to Diobel, and finally making our way through the wilderness. With any luck we won’t run into any of the local inhabitants. Once in the caves, we’ll need to work together to explore and determine whether any gillman are present or have been recently. Keep an eye out for any other clues that might hint at the caves’ significance, too.”

It'll become obvious after a few moments of travel that the tengu is a crossbowman, and he's at ease with the idea of extended yet harried preparations.
He's not the most learned person on the planet, but he does keep his eyes and ears open.
Yyrkoon D'Imrryr |
Yyrkoon frowns at the mention of luck in avoiding the local inhabitants ...
"Umm ... why is it necessary to avoid the locals? I take it that for some reason there are not generally friendly?"
Once on the road, Yyrkoon prefers to travel as a rear guard, with his crossbow slung across his back and a sword cane in his right hand; his left hand absently traces arcane patterns at his side.

Jidai Oyuki looks toward the center of the isle where the Kortos mountains are located.

“Centaurs control the lowlands and surrounding wilderness of the Kortos Mounts. The areas farther up the Mounts are controlled by minotaurs, and the icy peaks are home to tribes of harpies. They’re always vying for territory, but with any luck, we should be able to avoid them and reach the caves without conflict. Then, there’s always the chance we may run into bandits along the way, and there are dozens of kinds of predators in that forest. That’s why we should always be as prepared as possible.” Janira answers Yyrkoon.
Yyrkoon D'Imrryr |
"Yeah ... I knew I would regret asking that ..."

As the party progresses deeper into the forest, the trees towering overhead begin to shield most of what remains of the day’s sun and the vegetation beneath grows denser. Janira pauses a moment and pulls out an intricate silver compass emblazoned with the Pathfinder Society logo: the Glyph of the Open Road. “I received this wayfinder when I successfully completed my Confirmation. Should we be successful on our journey, you will get your own as well.” She flips open the device and holds it in front of her; the initials J. L. are engraved into the inside of the device’s lid. After studying the compass inside for a moment, she remarks, “We’re on the right path. We need to keep heading northwest past those large rocks up ahead.” Most of the trees in this section of the forest have trunks that are too big for any creatures to share their space. Sporadic patches of light undergrowth provide areas for creatures to hide while restricting movement for those passing through. A large rock outcropping to the east rises nearly 20 feet above the forest floor, and a small sinkhole to the northwest drops off sharply, descending to the ground 10 feet below.

Take a moment to heal up or perform tasks.. I will post the rest later after work.
GM DevilDoc |
Janira quickly patches up Jidai's scratches and cleans out the poison before pulling out a wand and tapping the wound with it.
its only two points.. I am not going to roll for it lol. Anyone else need topped off?
As the party makes their way deeper through the forest, you find that the trails you are following become harder and harder. Fallen trees, overgrown shortcuts, and unexpected detours all seem to be conspiring to keep you from your destination. Janira is pushing you hard, desperate to get to the cave before sundown. "We have to hurry!! I have only seen them during the day. I do not know if there is another exit, but we must make it before the sun goes down."
Now comes some fun. I will need a DC 15 Survival check from everyone to make it through the rest of the forest. Make it fun and inventive. If you fail, tell me why and make up a story about your travails. If you make it, make it interesting and turn around and help those that are having trouble. If you fail this check, let everyone else check in, then roll again. This way if you still need help, we can get some aids in there to make it all work out.
