As you all surround the two children you can see they are getting antsy. Kieu Lan looks into your eyes Raelis and Roll Initiative. jk :) she breaks down slumping to the floor crying uncontrollably. She speaks mid sob, tears falling. "I.. I.. I'm... Sorry... Sniffle We found our new 'friend'..snort. We came here to.. to.. feed it. sob" Kieu Lan falls into your arms Raelis, she hugs you tightly, Kieu Si follows in line latching on tight to Delea. Kieu Lan speaks again."Our.. our.. father Snort won't be happy we.. we.." Kieu Lan whips her snot covered face onto her sleeve "..were here feeding him. Our father has to bring us to this ship when he works..sniffle We're Sorry."

As one of you approaches the door leading to the skittering, Kieu Si yells out "Don't!!!" he rushes over to the computer terminal and presses a few buttons. He slowly walks back over to Delea and hugs her tightly again "Mama Delea safe now."

As Kieu Lan describes their new 'friend' you get the feeling it looks similar to this saying "He can change shape."

Delea silently puts her arms around Kieu Si. She reaches out with her mind to touch her companions. I wonder what sort of creature the children have made friends with. It could be what is causing the problems to the ship. I think it's a good sign that the children were interacting with it without getting hurt. What do you think we should do? We should discuss this telepathically so that we don't worry the children.

Gonna move us along.

As your group deliberates and realize that they should investigate this creature that is apparently causing all the fuse with E-Deck you investigate further.
You open the door into the next room and you are immediately assaulted by a hot breeze of steam. Although not enough to hurt anyone it does cause a fog to billow out of and around the room.

As you enter you investigate the areas.

Computers DC16:
As you approach the computer terminal you see a few foot prints and what could only be a random secretion from the childrens's 'friend'. You are able to vent out the steam allowing it easier to search about the room for the occupant.

Culture or Perception Check DC16:
You notice a rather out of place Trashcan on top the computer Terminals. As you approach the Trash can jumps off and hits the ground as a small blob that is quickly changing shape again running about the room. and out of sight.

Second Culture or Perception Check DC16

Spoiler:
You are able to track the little guy around the corner and find what looks to be a oddly shaped tool box with a hand that only a fairy could pickup. tool box shaking in the corner.

As you approach the tool box what do you do?

"Why don't you just come with me, and we can find you somewhere safer to live? Maybe somewhere the children can visit you and feed you without worry about anything else? Doesn't that sound nice?" She continues cooing at the shape changing creature, hoping it will warm to her and let her pick it up. If she can she'll slowly exit the room and show her companions with a raised eyebrow, as if to say "What now?"

After your team arrives back on to Absalom station you view your personal Comms and see you still have one contact left to make before your mission is complete.

TIme to meet the leader of the Acquisitives, Radaszam "The Deal Maker" he keeps a public-facing office for purposes just like these, in the Nyori Palisades, a luxurious neighborhood located in Absalom Station’s transparent central dome.

You find entry into the office's easy simply activating and displaying the Starfinder insignia from your Subdermal Grafts.

Making your way to him through the compound as the plain white doors of the office slide open to reveal a stark, dimly lit room. The chamber is bleak and expressionless in its emptiness—no vanities line its smooth black walls, and no signs of use mar its smooth black furniture. The only occupants of the suite are a bug-eyed tadpole wriggling in a glowing blue aquarium and a reptilian vesk seated behind an onyx desk. The vesk gestures to a number of chairs in front of him, his features sharply illuminated by the light of his desk’s green holoscreen.
“The new graduates,” he greets, in a low and pleasant voice. “Good day. I am Radaszam, though since you are here, I should hope you already knew.

“I trust you are aware of our Society’s traditions, so I will cut to the point. I have a minor situation that needs resolution. One of our members, a human named Laboni, had a rather public altercation with a junk scavenger from the Spike. You might be more familiar with the scavenger than I, actually; he is a ysoki who fancifully calls himself Ratrod. I am told he runs a popular racing competition that has, hmm, several hundreds of thousands of viewers on the station’s infosphere. For some reason, Laboni felt the need to tell him that any ‘real’ mechanic could easily beat the garbage that Ratrod and his associates slap together. Now that Ratrod has issued an infosphere-wide demand that she race him and prove it, Laboni doubts she can back that claim up.

“Embarrassing, isn’t it? Not really the sort of troublemaker that suits our Society. Perhaps she would be better suited to the bottom of a trash compactor... Well, we cannot afford to throw her out, not after so many Starfinders were lost in the Scoured Stars. Besides, we can’t let people think we are so weak that we can’t control our own members, or that we cannot stand up to a scrapyard junker. No, I would like you to assist Laboni in winning this race. Show our detractors that even the least of our Society is not someone to be trifled with.”

Making your way into the pit Laboni is easy to find in the crowd due to her paisley clothes and bright white lab coat. She is in her late teens and appears very sheepish almost frantic as she is circling her racer. As you approach she notices the pit passes that Radaszam gave to each of you, rushing up she says "Thank you so much!!! I knew Radaszam would send help. I really need you help. The race is starting soon and I am lost, I don't know what I am doing here. I can't even fly this thing! I was to boastful with Ratrod and I can't apologize to him until I either beat him or give him a good race." Laboni is clearly stressed out so much even one not medical trained can tell she make hit severe breakdown levels. She gestures to your group saying "I hope you have some training enough to help me."

As you look over her racer you see that its a very very basic model that has no chances of winning in its current state.

BASIC JUNKRACER:

Speed 40 ft., full 400 ft.
EAC 10; KAC 12
Attack energy weapon (–4 to Piloting)
Modifiers +2 Piloting, –3 attack
Passengers 1
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Remote Control Laboni’s junkracer and weaponry can be remotely controlled by the PCs, allowing them to make attack rolls and attempt Piloting checks in her place.

Laboni takes in a deep breath ”Ok with you here we can do this. The way I see it right now we have enough time for each of you to accomplish four prerace actions to help us beat Ratrod and win the race.” Taking in another breath Laboni continues with some more details. ”The way I see it to help out you can either work on my junk racer, scout out the opposition, Mingle with the other racers, or, which I really don't recommend, Sabotage the others Junkers. We are Racing against Ratrod, Orsis, Lemgem, Nyizin and Velocity. The first to make it to the finish line wins, were talking only 3000 feet.”

“Well what do you say? Ready to help?”

So to make it more streamlined this is what I ask each of you to do. You will each have 4 prerace actions you can choose from the list below, you can do the same action multiple times unless noted. I ask that you each select your four actions and post all at once, we can retcon later if we find a problem. Also I will post the DCs on some of the actions so you can direct your choices further along with your post. It should go without saying but creativity can be rewarding Gm Hint Hint Nudge Nudge.

Improve Laboni’s Junkracer:
You spend an action to attempt a DC 16 Computers, engineering, Perception, or Physical Science check to find parts in the scrapyard and install them in Laboni’s racer; you can aid another's action without using one of your actions.

Weapons installed on the vehicle do not cause damage, but instead impose penalties to the target’s Piloting rolls for 1 round on a successful hit. Every successful check allows you to pick one improvement from the list below to apply to the vehicle’s statistics; these bonuses are cumulative.
• The vehicle’s base speed increases by 5 feet.
• The vehicle gains a +1 Piloting modifier.
• The vehicle gains a +1 attack modifier.
• The vehicle gains a +2 bonus to its EAC.
• The vehicle gains a +2 bonus to its KAC.
• You install a basic energy weapon on the vehicle (imposes a –4 base Piloting penalty on a hit).
• You install a basic kinetic weapon on the vehicle (imposes a –4 base Piloting penalty on a hit).
• You upgrade a weapon to impose an additional –2 penalty to enemy Piloting checks on a successful hit.

Investigating the Enemy:

You can scout out your opponents with a DC 15 Sense Motive check, or examine their opponents’ vehicles with a DC 15 Engineering check. You can do this as part of ’Improving Laboni’s Junkracer’ — you take a break during the improvement attempt and casually investigate one of the other racers. Otherwise, it costs you one of your prerace actions to converse with or examine all members of the competition. This check does not grant exact knowledge of an opponent’s statistics.
On a successful check, you can ask one pertinent question about the pilot’s skill Sense Motive or about the vehicle Engineering the pilot is driving. For every 5 you beat the DC by you can ask one additional question.

Socialize:

You may also take this time to speak to the other pilots. During your prerace actions, you can forgo making a skill check to examine and socialize with any of the opponents. The junkers are busy with their own preparations and do not have much time to talk or answer many questions.

Sabotage:

Do you really want to?
Spoiler:
OkYou can attempt to sabotage the other vehicles, but you must dodge the eyes of everyone in the ramshackle stadium by spending a prerace action and attempting at a Stealth check and an Engineering check on one of the opposing vehicles to either reduce the vehicle’s speed by 10 feet or to impose a –4 penalty on one of the vehicle’s modifiers. If you are caught cheating in this manner, you are tossed out of the engine pit and longer allowed to return. If anyone from your team is caught cheating again, it is grounds for the immediate disqualification of the entire team, that includes Laboni.

Once you have finished all of your prerace actions Laboni asks ”She needs a name. What do you think?” She eagerly listens but she will veto anything humiliating or inappropriate.

If you have any questions let me know too

Delea hits the pavement as it were collecting a few pieces of information about the other racers.

Lemgem is a blue-haired gnome covered in piercings, tattoos, and augmentations. A short conversation reveals she is obsessed with continual alterations to herself and her racer, to the point where her vehicle modifications skirt the bounds of common sense.

Orsis is a stoic, dark-haired lashunta who looks unfairly good in black and gold.

Ratrod is a ysoki with mottled gray-and-white fur. He has a showman’s personality to match his icon status. People in the Spike consider him something of a hero to the ysoki-dominated Scrap Union.

Still bearing the scars of the fight that killed her dragonkin partner, Nyizin is a racer with an obvious death wish. Unstable black-market mods made of dragon bone and elemental energies fill Nyizin’s vehicle. So long as she is alive, she intends to win in honor of her fallen companion.

Velocity is a beautiful android with silver hair and skin. They have self-modified to have both masculine and feminine attributes, and have decorated their clothing, eyelids, and lips with bright, colorful patterns. While the android is a very good pilot, they struggle with engineering and have never won a race—they have mostly sought entertainment by shooting at other racers during previous competitions.

She is able to discern more about the abilities of the pilots finding out that Velocity is one of the best pilots here, on equal par with your operative Iseph Zefram. Lemgem and Nyizin are some of the worst acclaimed pilots you have ever made contact with and you need to watch our for Ratrod and Velocity as they have the best chances of landing a hit against any of the racers. Lemgem on the other hand can't hit the broad side of the hangar bay.

Delea your third roll for investigating was enough for the above information, you have one race action left.

The Good doctor:
Opening up your custom rig you check for any options to take control of any of the other racers and realize they have no remote control options not even an autopilot feature you can access through. Can't hack the other racers to remote control them

‘Bit’ performs a few additions to the weapons array while also pickup a small wire the Good doctor dropped allowing the modulations to proceed as normal with no glitch. ’Bit’ 2nd tries are acceptable and your assist does not use one of your actions. You have one prerace action left.

Raerlis saunters about the Pit chatting up the racers who tend to be abrasive and non-chalant. She is able to discern a few things about Velocity. Velocity is itching to drive something faster but they do
not have the expertise to make their Junkracer push the limits of speed. You get the feeling that an alliance can be made with Velocity if you were able to help them with a little speed boost. They also were able to install a Kinetic type weapon to their junker. Nothing else really stands out. Raelis you can perform a free Engineering Check to increase the speed on Velocity's Junker if you want to create an alliance.

Also through her conversations she is able to find out that Ratrod has a special module that might not be legal but he basically owns the race so no point in telling the authorities about it. This module allows Ratrod to absorb the first energy based attack that hits his Racer each round and turning this into boost in speed. Aside from the energy absorption effect he has no other special characteristics or abilities. Delea was able to determine his piloting abilities earlier.

Zefram starts painting a few more red strips on Laboni’s junk racer making it “go Fasta!!!” granting a little bonus of an extra 15 feet per second making Laboni’s Junkracer the fastest on the course.

After Raelis readjust some power conduits to provide a little more boost Velocity grabs Raelis by the hand shaking vigorously saying "You are most wonderful for doing this. I'll positions myself to take second place in the race and fire at anyone in front of Laboni’s junkracer." Turning to Delea they add "Especially if its that no good cheating Ratrod."

Botting 'Bit'
'Bit' decides to bolster the on board weapons more by adding another weapon, this time a Kinetic Weapon.

Delea you still have a prerace action you can use. From the ones available up top. Might I suggest adding a Kinetic weapon to the Junk Racer.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone with points in engineering has an action left, but without a kinetic weapon we'll be giving ratrod a speed boost if we attack him. Does Velocity have a kinetic weapon?

Edit; I missed that Bit added one, so I guess that'll have to do.

I think my action using perception is enough, but as story I think someone who has engineering knowledge still installs it without costing an action.

Delea is able to locate the cutest little slug thrower ever definitely fitting into Laboni's vibe of a junkracer. One of the more mechanically inclined of the group easily installs the kinetic weapon bringing the junker up to four total weapons that have also been hooked into the remote control module.

Raelis Velocity does have a Kinetic Weapon on their racer. Delea you are right you can find with perception and one of the others can install without using a prerace action.

"How about we name the junkracer Nibola the Show-Stealer. Looks as if the race is about to start. I will get into the cockpit and you should man the controls from the access terminal there." Laboni points to a basic remote control interface unit.

As you all sit at your stations Iseph Zeframe seated in the 'pilots' chair. A communications link opens and you hear Laboni's voice. "Alright I'm all set here. I am at my starting location, releasing manual controls and activating remote control now. Thank you again for assisting me with this. I know it is less than what you may expect with a mission for the Starfinder Society but I know am in very capable hands." with the last moments of the pep-talk ending your controls light up with showing you each have control of the onboard navigation and weapons.

The announcer begins "Welcome Welcome everyone. We have a wonderful race for you tonight!" you hear the same sentence repeated in an alien language.
”Racing tonight in her first Race is Laboni’s with her Junker Nibola The Showstealer!!!” the crowd lets out a mix of hoops, hollars, cheers and boos. You can only imagine the stories the crowd has heared since Laboni’s attempt at calling out. ”Defending his title for the 34th time is… RATROD!!!! In his self titled Junker The Ratrod! Let us see of this new comer has what it takes to defeat Ratrod.”

To help finish up the game I will just mass roll for everyone.

"Look at this folks everyone has it out for Ratrod except a few stray shots have hit the others it seems that only Laboni's Showstealer and Nyzin's Edge of Death are making their way down the track and excluding Ratrod everyone else is hitting random junk piles and rubble causing them to slowly procced down the field."

Within moments your crew seems the Finish line coming ahead. THe remaning racers are firing on each other causing them to end up stay more than half way from the finish line byt the time you and Nyizin are within a few feet.

"Its Laboni! No wait its Nyizin! Laboni, Nyzizin.... Wait its too close to call. THey both tocuhed at almost the exact same moment. in the end its.... LABONI!!!!! she beat them all. Clsoe race between her and Nyizin. Looks like we have a new contender for the Junkracer cup!!!" Having helped Laboni reach the finish you end up at the winners circle Laboni formally apologizes to Ratros Once he gets to the finish line they both appear humbled by the whole race. The Ysoki even shakes Laboni's hand with a big grin offering to pay for her buy in for the next race.

Laboni thanks you personally by offering you some of the prize pool along with a new set of graphite carbon skin armor.

Having completed all missions and meeting with the Leaders of the factions who has sent reports back on your progress you receive a summons to the Lorespire Complex from Guidance. As you arrive into the main lobby The intelligence once again presents itself in a holographic form—this time taking on the appearance of a wizened male korasha lashunta "Congratulations are in order for our newest confirmed Starfinder Agents." It goes on to state "In the aftermath of the Scoured Stars incident, the Society needs skilled agents more than ever and we see potential in you as you all start your new careers as Starfinder field agents."

And so ends the Scenario 1-01: The Commencement. I will post chronicles within the next day or two so keep an eye out. Also I need to know a few things from each of you Raelis and Dr. Bradbury do you need the Welcome to Starfinder boons? Also,Zeframe and Raelis do you need me to sign off on or create new Alien Archive Reward Boons?

Yeah I don't have the welcome to starfinder boon. Also what do we do about the rewards from this mission? I'm not very familiar with how that works.

No worries Good Doctor. Have you played Pathfinder Society? It's very similar. Mitch like playing at home you will get experience points and credits that you then use to build up your character or you can act like a space Dragon and hoard all your hard earned cash to spend at a later date.
