1 person marked this as a favorite.

Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders and home to Lolth's chosen, the Drow, had six for thousands of years in the northern Underdark. It's master race is inherently evil and conniving. The only thing more deadly than openly opposing them is actually being them.

Welcome to house Kewadin, 15th House of Menzoberranzan. You are small, but ambitious. Your Matron, Lady Vantgree, is leading your house well. From your fort in a stalagmite hanging above the city you plan and plot and backstab (sometimes literally).

I will work up a fighter, I believe.

Footsoldier trying to make good and advance his position, ready to take on the shady ops and dangerous jobs for the house.

Wealth, rolled? It hought that was only for 1st level

A third level character has a starting wealth of 3000gp, how do you mean to roll wealth for someone of that level?

Rolling up a Rogue, going to Assassin.

I would love to play a cleric of the Spider Queen. I will work on her this weekend.

I wrote that before I decided on third level. Please disregard.

I have a few concepts in mind, will give it some thought and see what else is being submitted.

Possessions masterwork dagger; mithral shirt; poisoning sheath; thieves' tools (masterwork); Wrist Sheath, Spring Loaded [ Dagger (Cold Iron); Dagger (Alchemical Silver); ]; Belt Pouch [ Whetstone; Wire Saw (Adamantine); ]; Hand Crossbow ;
Danger Sense (Ex) You gain a +1 bonus on Reflex saves to avoid traps and a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks by traps. In addition, you gain a +1 bonus on Perception checks to avoid being surprised by a foe. This ability counts as trap sense for any feat or class prerequisite, and can be replaced by any archetype class feature that replaces trap sense. The bonuses gained from this ability stack with those gained from trap sense (if you have trap sense from another class).

Darkvision (Ex) Range 120 ft.; Darkvision is the extraordinary ability to see with no light source at all, out to a range specified for the creature. Darkvision is black and white only (colors cannot be discerned). It does not allow characters to see anything that they could not see otherwise-invisible objects are still invisible, and illusions are still visible as what they seem to be. Likewise, darkvision subjects a creature to gaze attacks normally. The presence of light does not spoil darkvision.

Darkvision Drow can see in the dark up to 120 feet.

Drow Immunities (Ex) Drow are immune to magic sleep effects and get a +2 racial bonus to saves against enchantment spells.

Evasion (Ex) You can avoid damage from many area-effect attacks. If you make a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, you instead take no damage. Evasion can only be used if you are wearing light armor or no armor. If you are helpless, you do not gain the benefit of evasion.

Finesse Training (Ex) At 1st level, a rogue gains Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat. In addition, starting at 3rd level, she can select any one type of weapon that can be used with Weapon Finesse (such as rapiers or daggers). Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed. Whenever she makes a successful melee attack with the selected weapon, she adds her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier to the damage roll. If any effect would prevent the rogue from adding her Strength modifier to the damage roll, she does not add her Dexterity modifier. The rogue can select a second weapon at 11th level and a third at 19th level.

Hidden Hand Your concealed weapons strike fast and true. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Sleight of Hand checks made to conceal light weapons and a +1 trait bonus on attack rolls when making an attack with a light weapon during a surprise round.

Keen Senses (Ex) Drow receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks.

Light Blindness Abrupt exposure to bright light blinds drow for 1 round; on subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area.

Poison Use (Ex) Drow are skilled in the use of poison and never risk accidentally poisoning themselves.

Sneak Attack (Ex) If you can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from your attack, you can strike a vital spot for extra damage. Your attack deals 2d6 points of extra damage anytime your target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC, or when you flank your target. Should you score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, you can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. You cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual -4 penalty. You must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. You cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment.

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp) Drow can use dancing lights At Will, darkness 1/day, and faerie fire 1/day .

Spell Resistance Drow possess spell resistance equal to 6 plus their class levels.

Talented (Perform (Act)) You are a virtuoso musician, actor, or storyteller. You gain a +1 trait bonus on checks with a single Perform skill (your choice), and all Perform skills are always class skills for you.

Trapfinding (Ex) You add +1 to Perception skill checks made to locate traps and to Disable Device skill checks. You can use the Disable Device skill to disarm magical traps.

Underhanded* (Ex) A rogue with this talent gains a +4 circumstance bonus on all Sleight of Hand checks made to conceal a weapon. Furthermore, if she makes a sneak attack during the surprise round using a concealed weapon that her opponent didn't know about, she does not have to roll sneak attack damage, and the sneak attack deals maximum damage. A rogue can only use the underhanded talent a number of times per day equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 0).

Weapon Choice (Dagger) (Ex) Dexterity to Damage with Dagger

Weapon Familiarity (Ex) Drow are proficient with the hand crossbow, rapier, and short sword.

I haven't worked out her complete backstory yet, but here is the basic theme.

Backstory:

Belmarnia is a quiet, seemingly unimportant Drow female. A very minor noble. Belmarnia specializes in looking harmless and unarmed, until she's close. Then the daggers come out and she strikes with mercy.

She is a capable Rogue, but her goal is to become an Assassin. Belmarnia likes wealth and being comfortable, she sees Assassin as a role that will always be valuable in Drow society. Either for her house, or for others if her house should fall. Belmarnia is loyal to herself first, but makes sure to seem an loyal and obedient Kewadin.

Let me know if you have any questions or corrections.

Think ill go drow noble. Oracle.
Will get a build out soon =^^=

dot.

thinking:

drow or orc antipaladin. The orc would be much like warpriest, only an antipaladin. both would be dedicated to serving the whims of the cleric (probably House Matron or one of her daughters) that trained him as an antipaladin. goals would be to spread the dominance of his house across the underdark, perhaps commanding his own garrison and fort.

an intimidation-based warpriest (probably a half-orc, but maybe a drow)> Thinking if a non-drow, he was taken and broken to the faith. I had thought of him as a Kuthite on Golarion, but he could easily work as a worshiper of one of the drow gods, or Loviatar. sort of a warrior-slave (like the brawler), but he broke so hard he drank the kool-aid and wants to break others as he was broken into serving his dark gods and the church that clerics that broke him

a flesh-warping alchemist not really sure where I'm going with this one, but he's a mad scientist sort. He experiments on himself as much as others. He wants to establish himself in the lucrative fleshwarping/poisons/and drugs trade of the Underdark.

a brawler orc (kind of a slave warrior of the house.. he doesn't want to be freed he wants to become the best warrior of the House, and a truly prized and valued bodyguard. Maybe, he'd be prized enough to be fleshwarped and "gifted" with other "rewards".

Very tempted to make a cavern sniper =^^=
Maybe i should =^^=

weird question: are driders allowed?

What year is it? Also, what's the current religious situation in the city? Obviously, organized worship of anyone but Lolth is forbidden, but iirc simply following other gods could be treated pretty differently depending on time and place. At worst, some high priestess nearby could get a memo at any moment and set out to track you down and make you her next sacrifice to Lolth. At best, so long as you keep it to yourself, a fairly wide array of non-good gods is tolerated. What's Menzoberranzan like in that regard at this time?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I've made a drow magus... basic character is done, just need background and such... I've put up a link to the profile here and will fill in the last few remaining details shortly.

Finishing up my backstory for an Arcane Bloodline Drow Noble Sorcerer

Hmm. The only drow I ever played was Iraxae, although she was the eldest daughter of the matriarch, had the whole sibling rivalry thing going on with her sister. (The game was e6, so it made sense, level-wise.)

I migth revive her, maybe not. She maps pretty well to a savage technologist barbarian, actually.

Definitely going noble, either way.

Dragonofashandflame wrote:

I was going to ask this as well - or even if a slightly scaled down version would be permitted - Something like dropping the spell resistance and then still having like, 8 points for point by.

Re: Driders
I will look into it.

Re:religion
It depends on which Matron gets the memo. Lolth's is obviously the state religion, and trying to start a temple to anything or anyone else is a pretty effective form of suicide. However, if you keep it super quiet and low-numbers, you are likely to be ignored.

For ease of looking into it, here's the paizo drider race.

It goes +2str/dex/wis, +4 con for stats.

Although if we're using the Lolth of forgotten realms mythology(I think it was), driders are supposed to be complete and utter outcasts. And not in the fun 'Woe is me CG Ranger' way.

Silver Crusade

Since Lolth is involved I'm assuming this doesn't take place in Golarion. Forgotten Realms?

So the best possibility it is - individual worshippers of other evil and neutral gods are typically not pursued so long as they show no outward sign of their faith, nor establish any sort of organized groups. That works.

What about the date? 14th century had a number of very messy events, so it may be relvent to know if we're before, during or after at least.

This is more Forgotten Realms, yes. If you want to be a drider I'm ok with it. Use an 8 point buy. However, know that you're going to need one killer justification to explain why your not languishing on the edge of outcast society like your kin.

The date is something I'm still nailng down. I have read the drizzt books and the first two Spider War books, so I know things go down. However, your story won't be directly tired into those events and I'm not going to hold myself to a Canon I read over a decade ago. I'll try to keep it authentic.

Are Tieflings or Dhampir allowed?

This will be the Nine's entrant,

Probably going into some form of arcane archer sort of build at the moment fighter 2/ wizard 1.

I need to work on the equipment and the backstory, I have a rough idea just have a Birthday party for my neice to go to before i can finish.

May a tiefling's Fiendish Heritage be picked deliberately, or is it random only?

Tavarokk wrote:

Yknow good question: you can pick one of the different packaged blood types, but none of random abilities off of the list same holds true for aasimar.

Tieflings and Dhampir are allowed as long as you are aware that all such creatures are second class citizens at best.

Pre packaged types are ok. The d100 list is available, but I will roll it for you should you wish to use it.
Sorry if that seems controlling, but I've been burned by that list before

Hmm hmm hmm.

Forgotten Realms + Drow + Choon. I don't think I can resist that combo, I'll have to tinker a bit and come up with a submission.

Right now I'm thinking Mesmerist - but they have so much awesome stuff I might end up with decision paralysis and change ...

That is perfectly understandable.
I will make a drow Antipaladin armed with a scimitar.

Going for some sort of ranged exotic weapon (heavy repeating crossbow) specialist with poison and alchemical crafting, and some wizardy magic (cause Drow,)

What about that half drow race that is born from fiends? Dagoth or something I think.

Never heard of it. Link?

My internet is still down. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be back up. Then ill be able to post it then

He is referring to this, they are called Draegloth. I will have to look through my books to see if I can dig up the template for you(if they have one as I don't remember off the top of my head). Are you considering drow dragons or half drow dragons while your at it? :)

I am thinking of submitting a drow mage of some sort, maybe a eldritch knight. Are you open to any 3.5e conversions for prestige classes or PF only?

Edit- Draegloth are CR 5 creatures with 6 racial HD, so pretty sure they have no template. As far as 3.5e is concerned anyways.

Draegloth are as far as I remember half-fiends/half drow noble. Now do the math.

If we want to play a Drow noble, should we be female?

Also, are we allowed to be related at all to the Matron?

So, after some poking around I've settled on two concepts. Not sure which one I'll go for (or maybe even roll up both).

- Drow commoner bard. Retainer/agent/delicate errands girl, very skilled all around, with some utility spells to back her up, plus some buffs and debuffs. Scout, face, combat support, trapfinder.

- Tiefling ranger. Usually prefers to stay out of the city for obvious reasons, hunting denizens of the tunnels and joining the house forces when they head out to raid. Striker, scout.

With that in mind, two questions. First, @Choon, any preferences on drow bard favoured class bonus? Paizo drow bard has no class-specific options at all, paizo drow sorc has extra spell per level with particular descriptors of which bard has very few, 3pp drow bard has plain spells per level.

Second, would it be possible to take Bite attack as a character feature? Iirc, orcs get such an option, and going by racial features and lore tieflings can get pretty nasty fangs, too.

They had a racial splash page in Races of the Underdark? I think that's the book. But, ya, half demon/half drow

Dragonofashandflame wrote:

I got my info on them from Drow of the Underdark, page 110 if that helps.

Heya,
I had a couple of ideas for a Drow cavalier, one way going with an Order of the Cockatrice all glory for himself type, or an Order of the Scales, as an enforcer for the house.

My question is, how would class mounts fit in here? A horse or camel seems quite awkward - I suppose an archetype such as Daring Champion that exchanges the mount class feature could work as well.

Thanks for your consideration - this looks very interesting!

As they are created specifically and intentionally by a high priestess I'm going to have to say no. Thanks for the idea though. ;)

Re: Half-etc.
You guys really don't like standard Drow, do you. :P I haven't heard of these half - variants, so give me some racial stats and I'll think about it

Noble = female? Not required, but the overwhelming majority are, yes.
And you can be related to the Matron, just keep your lvl3-ness in mind. You're not the big cheese here. :)

Drow Bardic racial= bonus spells of the darkness, evil, Chaos, charm, or Compultion types

Bite attack = of you can get it via conventional means I'm not against it.

Mounts = I'll look at replacing mounts with more appropriate options if they're chosen. Drow pretty commonly ride giant lizards.

Drow noble. May want to go Soul Drinker. Or plain Drow....
=^^=

Ooooh. Only now saw the drider thing.... i may want to go for that. Drider war cleric. Soul Drinker...

Cursed by Lolth, Embraced by War. Or was that her plan all along? Who knows what these deities are thinking anyway?

Dark Archive

I'm interested, maybe Drow Sorcerer

Is this using some Dnd Rules for creation? I mean 3.5, 4 or 5?

Standard pathfinder generation except where detailed above. I don't know the other rule sets well enough to make them and Pathfinder play nice
