Albus completes his search of the room and bodies, make whatever disposition needed and nods to the others comments.

"Yes let's go north, but be wary slurks are not easy to win through."

To the kobolds, "How many slurks are there in the tunnels?" Albus tries to be prepared just in case.

He marches out with the rest of the others keeping, as always, a wary eye out.

Two or three with riders maybe
Laro leads the group north through the passage that curves north west before expanding out into a truly disgusting cavern.

The walls and floor of the cavern are covered with a semi-transparent slippery gray slime that resembles mucous. Two narrow tunnels
lead south out of this cave, while a flight of steps leads deepr into the north.

The slippery snot like slime gives the normally stealthy halfling some trouble and he's not as quiet or shadowy as he usually is.

Two kobolds riding slurks spot Laro as he balances himself as his foot skids on a patch of slime. Laro can see that one of them looks like a bloodscale while another is green scaled and wearing good quality leather armor.

Soft Skin! Soft Skin! One of them cries and the black armored green scaled kobold shouts Kill Kill Slurk Attack Attack!

The group is faster on its feet than the slurk riding kobolds however.

Setup is that Laro is in front at the south east entrance to the slurk cavern. Regular marching order behind him in a not very tight passage way. Everybody except Laro will need to take a move action to get into postion to do a ranged attack. People ahead of the children in marching order can take one move action to get into melee position with one of the two slurk riders. People behind the children will need to double move to get into melee range. Oh and the slippery slime means that anybody moving at normal speed will need to make a DC12 Reflex save or fall prone. Moving at half speed means that you don't have to worry about that but will take you one extra move action to get into melee range of slurks. Round One Party up!

Seeing the slurks aren't ready for him, Laro advances and attacks one of them, hoping to dethrone it's rider in the process.

Since his blessing is still active, Virdel decides to try out a mysterious new spell to assist the party.

Casting hold person on one of the bloodscales. They were the tougher ones right? DC 16 Will save.


Laro's sudden movement does catch the kobolds and the slurks off guard. Laro's sword cuts deep into the slurk but doesn't quite kill it.

Aelerie takes in the foul cavern and the slurks that call it home with a look of evident disgust. In spite of all her reading on the creatures, there are some things that books can't prepare you for. "Remember, watch out for their back slime!"

Calling on help from the heavens, Aelerie is a touch shocked when she summons neither eagle nor dog, but a man-sized spider the color of the night sky.

Spending 2 points to use summon monster II and summon a celestial giant spider. Stats are in the alias. The range of the spell should be 35 ft. so if Aelerie can move in just far enough to summon it behind the kobolds, that would be gravy.

For once Albus is caught a bit off guard, his response slow. Albus readies the bow, takes a 5' step (if enough to get a line of attack) and fires on a slurk that Laro is not engaged in.(No penalty)

As Aelerie summons forth a being Javell moves into the cavern and lets a dagger fly that embeds itself deep into the same slurk that Laro wounded. As the slurk croaks its last the dagger curves and rips out of the dying toad like creature to end its flight in the shoulder of its rider. The falling toad and the shock of the dagger leaves the former rider splayed out and prone on his dying mount's back.

Albus moves in as well to just the edge of the slime covered floor of the cavern and his arrow flies true into the second slurk.

Aelerie finishes summoning a spider! It clings to the celing and rears up to fire a web at the closest kobold which is the one struggling to get up from its dead mount.

Web on touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Kobold is prone, flatfooted, and the attack is on touch so. Yeah it still hits

The screaming kobold is suddenly sprayed with strands of sticky web and it's stuck fast to the now dead slurk.

Damage tracker middle of round one:

Kobold 1: 11 damage, prone, entangled

Slurk 2: 6 damage
Kobold 2 greenscale: Undamaged

The Kobold on the second slurk, the one who gave the order to attack nudges the slurk and points it towards the closest foe, which is Laro.

The slurk rises up and opens its mouth to spit a stream of disgusting slime at Laro.

Slime attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

The wily rogue dodges out of the way of the stream of slime that instead just adds to the disgusting puddles of goop that streak the floor.

In a coordinated maneuver though the kobold on the slurk's bike raises a crossbow and fires it at Laro.

crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Laro almost manages to twist out of the way of this second attack as well but instead it nicks a vulenerable part of the halfling's throat as it flies by.

Laro Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Laro feels there was something insidious on the bolt but he manages to shrug it off. All there is is the pain from the wound caused by the bolt itself.

Setup for Round Two:
Laro is next to a prone, wounded, kobold that is stuck fast to a dead slurk on the east wall of the cavern. Javell is in the cavern as well and a half speed move action away from melee to either the wounded kobold or the unwounded greenscaled one on the wounded slurk at the west wall of the cavern. Javell, and Laro are a half speed move action away from engaging in melee with the unwounded one, Albus is a more than half speed move action away from doing the same (so Reflex save required). Right behind Albus is Aeleire and then Virdel. All have pretty much full view into the cavern. Behind Virdel is Whisper and then the kids.

Aelerie sets a quarrel into her crossbow and lines up her sight to fire at the greenscale kobold. However, realizing that the slurks pose the greater threat, her aim shifts down a few degrees and she looses her bolt at the vile toad-like creature.

Javell sends another dagger arcing towards the wounded kobold.

Aelerie's bolt strikes the slurk but doesn't do a lot of damage to the beast. Javell's dagger finishes off the entangled and heavily wounded kobold but the greenscale easily avoids it.

The spider follows Aelerie's lead and sends another web hurtling at the slurk she targeted.

The slurk is entangled in the sticky threads just like the now dead kobold was!

Keeping steady on his feet, Albus follows up his shot with a rapid volley hoping to take out the second slurk now entangled.

Laro moves over carefully, and attacks the entangled slurk. "We don't want this getting back up!"

Laro's stab on the helpless creature is just enough to cause it to collapse to the ground.

The greenscale quails at his mount going limp but then seems to become enraged beyond words. You kill Gloopy! I kill you ALL!

Sorry for the delay. I just couldn't stay awake long enough last night.

So there's just the one greenscale left right? The one that saved against me? And is there anyone engaged with it? I don't think so if I am reading this right.

"Your time here is finished." Virdel draws his crossbow and fires at the kobold.

Virdel's bolt misses the kobold as it leaps at Laro.

The wild attack nicks Laro but Laro does feel a little slower as the poison on the spear goes through the halfling's system.

The spider, not seeing any reason to move away from a winning strategy, fires a web at the final enemy in the room.

This time though the web goes wide.

Setup, alright, combat should go faster now :). Only thing left is the greenscale who is in melee with Laro. Ablus and Javell can move half speed to get into melee with the greenscale. Everybody else has visual sight on the kobold.

Not trusting herself enough to fire a bolt at the greenscale without putting Laro at risk, Aelerie instead conjures up twin bolts of magic to assail the kobold. They leave behind small motes of arcane energy as they weave around her friends to unerringly strike their target.

Javell spins his starknife into position, charging forward into a deadly stroke at the last kobold.
Charging 15 feet and attacking with starknife.

However, the kobold manages to evade the deadly stroke with almost comical ease.

Albus drops the bow and readies his greataxe, moving slowly he closes on the kobold, flanking him. Between readying and moving I don't think I can attack.

Laro gasps as the spear nicks him and shouts "That stings! You'll pay for that." He then attacks the kobold with both swords.

While Javell misses, the combination of Aeleire's, Laro's and Albus' attacks leaves the greenscaled kobold stone cold dead.

Whisper and the children make their way into the room with varying levels of disgust on their face. Jurin in particular.

Laro doesn't feel like he's getting any worse but he is wounded and hurt from the latest battle.

"Laro, let me see those wounds!" Virdel hurries to attend to the injured as usual.

"So where to now?" he asks the trackers in the group.

"Watch your step in here kids. Walk slowly, and try not to touch the walls," Aelerie warns as she herds the children into the room. She warily eyes the giant spider clinging to the cavern ceiling, curious as to whether it's going to follow after them or make a new, temporary home out of the slurk's den. "Best not to look up either."

Albus checks out the master kobold seeing what he has and does a quick check on the room, while trying to recover the one missed arrow.

Albus then looks for a way forward toward his quary the kidnapped child.

Default perception is fine.

"We can rest for a moment while I check here out but then we move on." Albus announces to no one in particular.

Albus doesn't find anything in the slime covered caverns. I think they're gonna keep Hollin under guard. They really wanted to keep us for... something Kimi says as she shudders either at the memory of being captive or because of stepping through a slime covered cavern.

Laro looks to the group to make sure everyone is ready and once they are he heads down the tunnel to the north.

The group moves ahead. Laro's weakness from the poison and the sludge sticking to his shoes making him far less stealthy than usual. The group doesn't move far though and ends up in a corridor branching off in four directions. South, from where they came, and then each of the cardinal directions.

North,
East,
and West.

Laro's keen senses does let him know what may be in each direction though. From the East and West he hears nothing but silence. From the north murmurings as if from a large number of kobolds.

That's where they kept us, in cages. It's like a barracks or something Kimi whispers from the back pointing to the North.

We didn't come through the slime room though Savra contributes We ran down another way, went through some place that had plants that screamed at us. I think that passage would take us there she points West. If those plants hadn't screamed then maybe we would have gotten farther before they saw us. Maybe Hollin wouldn't have gotten caught!

Jurin nods along with the two girls while Mikra just murmurs Where's Hollin? over and over.

As they move on Aelerie's spider moves along with them. It clings to the ceiling and lets out a companiable chittering every once in a while. It's body is made of swirls of bright blues and purples and its eyes peek out from above fangs that seem blunt and more suited for eating fruits and plants than anything else.

Albus joins the march north following a distance behind Laro. At the comments Albus turns and quietly asks, "Do you know about how many kobolds are in that barracks? We may need another approach if the numbers are too great."

Albus keeps track of the spider following them, wondering a bit at Aelerie's choice of friends from elsewhere. Creepy thing Aelerie summoned but it seems to be a plant eater. Odd for a spider, if that's what it really is.

Laro moves north as the group has decided. Even though he's distracted by the effects of the poison he moves much quiter than before and, even in his distracted state, he cannot help but hear the murmurings of a large number of kobolds.

Laro moves back to the party and whispers, "I see three guards at the entrance. I can hear more behind them. Do we want to rush the guards together or have me sneak up and you attack from range? It also might be a good idea to cast any spells on us to help us out before engaging them. What do you think?"

Albus replies to the others, "I didn't say we should take another way just we should keep it in mind if needed. Let's see what we face here."

When Laro returns, Albus comments, "With the barracks near we will need to take them swiftly and quietly as possible, Sneak up I think with the others attacking from range I'll be nearby out of sight, and run up after you engage, Master Laro. That should give us the best chance overall and hope that we do not alert too many guards. My arrows are few and they are not as good as my axe when it come to a quick kill." Albus finishes the last rather grimly, they many lives he has taken weighing on him.

You guys will get a surprise round and go first in Round one as well so let's combine that. You can take three move actions or wwo move actions and a standard action or a move action and two standard actions. etc. before the kobolds get their chance at the bottom of Round One. Basically you're in Round One with an extra standard action attached. Laro is going to be one move action away from melee range of the three guards. Everybody else will be one move action away from visibility and range of the guards and two melee actions from range. It is a narrow passage way though so it's a single file bottleneck so squeezing past someone else to get ahead will take an extra move action. The spider is still around and has, let's say six rounds left before it's four minutes are up. It's on the ceiling so it doesn't have to worry about the single file passageway.

Aelerie primes her crossbow while she waits for the others to engage the guards. "You kids stay here until the fighting stops. And you—" Aelerie points at the twilight-colored spider on the ceiling before pointing to the room, trying to communicate her wishes to the oversized arachnid as best she can without resorting to chittering.

Once Laro and Albus have cleared the passageway, Aelerie moves into the next room and takes aim at one of the guards.

Only way you can get three attacks in is you do a charge on your 'surprise' standard round Laro. So I'm going to assume that's what you did.

The group moves in concert to carry out their ambush on the three guards leading to the kobold barracks.

The spider scuttles across the ceiling as Aelerie moves in first to get a shot off with her crossbow. The bolt is stopped by the warrior kobold's armor though.

The spider drops down and attacks the same kobold Aelerie targeted.

One Move action and then two standard action attacks

Bite 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Bite 2 Flank with Laro: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

The kobold, spooked by the sudden bolt, is taken completely unawares as the spider drops down behind it and uses four of its legs to brace off the warrior as and sink its fangs deep into the back of the kobold's throat.

two bite damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 = 12

The fangs may be blunt, but they're more than enough to crush the kobold's windpipe and the warrior goes down in a heap.

As the spider takes care of the warrior, Laro charges in to hurt the darkscaled kobold. The halfling's first running thrust goes wide but as the halfling gets settled in his sword bites deep twice, assisted by the darkscale's surprise as well as the distraction provided by the spider.

Despite the vicious wounds the dark talon still stands and hisses defiance at Laro, right up till Albus squeezes his way into position and ends the fanatic kobold's life by removing its head.

Ok, two down before Javell and Virdel got to go. There's only a slave left. So... if you guys would still target a slave than that slave will die to Javell and Virdel's ranged attacks. Otherwise it panics and runs off deeper into the room. Up to you guys.

Now with a much better view of the inside of the room, the group can see a large cavern filled with dirty straw nests, scraps of weapons, armor, other junk. The rank smell of dampness and kobold excretions mixes with the odor of the discarded remains of the kobold's meals giving the cavern a smell even worse than the one from the slurk pens. More than just a barracks it seems like this is the main den for the entire warren!

There's more than a half dozen kobolds in the den and the squeals from the slave kobold (whether dying or running) alerts them. The group can make out one dark scaled, and two red scaled ones among the warriors and slaves

The darkscale, posted on the western tunnel cuffs a slave with a draconic snarl of Get Help! and the slave takes off running into another tunnel that leads south from the west part of the cavern while the group assaults the den from the east. Soon enough the group can hear the screeching sound described by Savra.

The dark talon then moves double time to get to the group, unable to charge because of the masses of junk and debris on the floor it has to maneuver around.

A red scale from the other side charges the group with its spear

Laro gets hit by the spear and gasps as the weapon sinks deeply into him before withdrawing, covered in his blood.

While another approaches with a bit more caution before attacking with the cruel chained weapons the group has already seen from 10 feet away.

This one targets the spider but misses badly.

One of the warriors moves in to engage the last of the frontliners not being attacked

Albus easily sidesteps the attack.

Two slaves and a warrior hang back, unsure if they're supposed to push their way to the front while the elite warriors of the tribe engage with the intruders.

They pelt the invaders with their slings

The slaves miss badly while the warrior does manage to get a good shot in, it bounces off Laro's armor though.

The front line of Albus, Laro, and Spider are pretty much blocking off the tunnel you guys are coming in from. They're facing off against a warrior and a red scale. Another red scale is about 10 feet away attacking with a chain. The darkscale is coming in hot but is also 10 feet away from the front line. Behind them are a warrior and two slaves with slings. Javell, Aelerie and Virdel can take a move action to get closer and have pretty much anyone they want in range. Let me know if any questions. Round 2 party up.
