You guys are really under WBL - which I am fine with, its a low powered game but what do you think the starting money for our new guys should be? 500? No more than 300 on a single item?

Sounds fair.

We should be around 1000 gp, but I'm not worried about it. APs tend to be sporadic with treasure.

I imagine the relics we found- axe, pipe, book, etc have value, but are prob cursed. That's why I gave them to Simeon ; )

Incidently I am enjoying the current battle. Not because its a 'win' or 'lose' thing or whatever but because I feel that this is a challenging encounter for you and feeling challenged is a good thing from time to time. Its also a bit creepy.

I played with Emmett in a previous incarnation (I think he was a witch back in that Westcrown AP). He was a reliable player back then, even if the GM wasn't, and I'd say a good bet as that was over two years : )

Yeah - Niles is good people. He ran something for me awhile back - damn fine GM.

His character will get in... Just checking on the bard slot until Monday.

I admit to being a little curious how the current encounter plays out. There is a lot more happening than meets the eye, and there are some interesting NPC engagements that may be triggered in its aftermath.

Got called in to work unexpectedly for tonight so I've been sleeping all day. It may take a bit longer but I'll make a post later tonight unless GM wants to go ahead and bot me; either option is fine.


Ok... so we've got our new Urban ranger engaged. I just posted to our new Dirge Singer a PM to join the game... he can walk in with the watchman being bought up to speed... and then the party can come back post combat so I can put everyone together.

Feedback on the last combat?

One of the challenges of a low powered game is keeping the challenge level high enough to make it interesting... not so high as kill the party.

I thought a wave approach would work well here. Your thoughts?

It goes beyond CL tweaking however, there are story implications woven in here.

Hmm, I didn't have any problems with it. It makes sense too, sometimes you don't find all the bad guys/things hanging out together and sometimes there are hidden if/then conditions in play.

I'm sorry to hear that. Take all the time you need; we'll be thinking of you and your family.


Just a quick call out, and fair warning, things will roll on pretty fast on the trial as this is not the center piece of the game, just one of the elements... which will lead to the removal of Lament and Nighteyes from the game on hopefully a non lethal basis.

Responding to Jaru's suggestion here and I'd definitely be in agreement of buying more alchemist's fire before we try going back to the prison as well as shuffling potions and stuff around from Lament and Nighteyes (assuming they won't be joining us). Not to mention it gives us a reason to have to go into town...possibly to Jorminda's shop? That could work since Elidal would like to check up on her at some point; she just got sidetracked with the events at the prison + Gibbs' trial.

This encounter was one I struggled with for a while but I hope it was flavorsome for you. I wanted you to experience some of the events behind the fire and this formed a great opportunity for it.

In the module as written the hazard to sanity is not there - there are other hazards which I've swapped out for this one which I hope is more thematic.

The mental battering some of you will have taken, raises the stakes and threat in its own and different way.

Let me make an edit that is easier to follow then and just remove that part about the lower die so its smoother. Just the +2 saves seems right.
