Bah, I posted but the forum monster ate it.
I've been enjoying the variant health rules despite my ignorance of them. Although opponents have been annoyingly hard to take down.
That being said, I care little either way.
Bran of Tisbury |
My main issue with it, is it doubling the length of any combat and reducing the heroicness of the PCs. In the movies and stuff, the PCs always tear through tons of guys and then have a more difficult fight against the boss type guys, I enjoy that kind of play in my RPGs as well I guess.
I'm fine with these rules as Jubal suggested them, as long as the same thing goes for NPCs.
Raedwald of Broughton |
Honestly, I'm fine either way. My problems have been less about how long it takes to take enemies down and more about how difficult it can be to hit them in the first place. Connect with enough blows and they're dead either way. The dice gods just haven't been on my side.

At long last!
Any math on Raedwald's sheet that needs correcting? I really overhauled him this time, I think.
I don't believe I have any animals aside from Gulfaxi, so do I need to make an animal roll?
Marriage Diplomacy Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Fail
Marriage Roll if Successful: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Family Events: 2d20 ⇒ (12, 2) = 14

No need for an animal roll. I put it there to let you know what happens with extra animals.
After the raid on Broughton, the servant who played the role of mothering Raedwald is missing. Everyone suspects she was carried off by the retreating Saxons.

In less than 24 hours I'll be heading out for three weeks of international travel. There will be times when I'll be able to post, but other times I may not be able to. Please bear with me, and/or bot me as necessary.
Edward of Cholderton |
I believe Edward is mostly updated to level 3. Sticking with ranger, and most likely will stay with ranger unless something drastic happens.
So I just realized I've been completely forgetting my favored enemy (humans) bonus, which would have made quite the difference in the bandit fights haha. Also, the last thing I need to do to level up is decide what my favored terrain is. I'm thinking either plains or forest, but I would like some help deciding.
Jubal Breakbottle |
Edward, the servant who like a second father figure to you died of natural causes during the summer while you were on patrol. He was the one who taught you to ride, armor, and fight. He was your father's friend who didn't have any other income or family.
I'll cover your Bride in gameplay, so keep on the look out.
Yes, a Human Favored Enemy probably would have made some differences.
Now that everyone is wintered, please post in the gameplay thread to get going.
cheers
Edward of Cholderton |
I would still like some input on what favored terrain to take, everybody's ideas are welcome.
Jubal, should I wait until I learn who my bride is before I post how my winter is going? Perhaps it's that girl back home that gave him the necklace his attached drawback is tied to, I left her pretty wide open for interpretation. Just an idea.
Edward of Cholderton |
Apologies for the delay in posting. I spent 8 hours at work shoveling sand around so I collapsed at 6pm and slept 10 hours. I'll absolutely post this afternoon when I get back from work.
Edward of Cholderton |
DM, I just wanna say I like your different style to this game. I like the realistic feel to it (that's one of my favorite types of games) but also the long-term changes. I already see a change in Edward and I'm excite about the rest of the game!
Jubal Breakbottle |
Great to hear. This game is very different than other games that I've played. With the pace, I always fear to lose your interest.
Let me know if you want to add more players. I'm alright for now, because there are some story that I want to do. But please let me know if you think it would be better with more players.
Cheers
Jubal Breakbottle |
Edward, just read your bride post. If you want that story that's fine, but we will say that you are marrying below your station and roll it's effects. That's ok. It's your call.
However, you succeeded looking for a bride at or above your station. I already have her ready but have not introduced her. If you want her, you will have to RP what you are doing with your sweetheart and how you made the decision to fish big.
Jubal Breakbottle |
Edward, do you WANT more players?
Also, I think I'm going to be using the mass combat rules going forward. One change that I already see is the size of the armies need to be adjusted. I think I'm going to add 8 to all ACRs on the Army Sizes table.
Any thoughts?
Edward of Cholderton |
I want more players if they're strong, dynamic characters and bring more to the game than a stat array.
I've never used the mass combat rules, I'll have to read up to get an educated opinion.
Raedwald of Broughton |
So instead of individual combats we'd be part of an army? I'm confused. I certainly wouldn't mind new players, myself. Crap, I should have made more conversation, I'm sorry. I spent all day catching up on sleep debt from earlier this week! :(

For those having difficulty with the titles and lands ;D please review the maps that are linked here and in the Campaign Info tab. Rydychan is immediately due north of Salisbury around Oxford. Lindsay is further north around Lincoln, which is about the same latitude as the end of Wales.

Oh, as a player I'm totally good. You've made convenient lists that make them easy to keep track of. I'm just roleplaying Edward as not good with names and titles, reflecting the fact that he's a knight without knowledge (nobility) trained.

Hey guys,
I'm leaving on vacation with the family Tuesday morning real early and will not have access to Internet until the following Tuesday.
It would be great if you three would hash out what you would like to do. Spring time starts in April, so you have three months to recon the cities. Gathering info takes time, so map out where you are going and what you are gathering.
Maybe a month per target town. Maybe a priority list of questions per town. Then we can make some Diplomacy rolls or Intimidate if you want.
cheers
Bran of Tisbury |
I think we should scout out all three cities, from the farthest away first.
Diplomacy gather info for the three towns: 1d20 ⇒ 141d20 ⇒ 11d20 ⇒ 15
Bran of Tisbury |
As far as what info we're looking for...
-Troop numbers
-Fortifications
-Brothers' habits and vices (anything that could be used to manipulate or blackmail them)
-Potential rebellious factions in each place (unhappy with harsh rule)
Jubal Breakbottle |
I'm back from vacation and will be posting tomorrow morning at the latest. I plan to wrap up winter court, and answer the gather information questions for the three towns pushing us to Aprilish.
If you have more questions than Bran, please post.
EDIT After Bran closed down one of his games, I want to assess the player situation befor I kick off the next year.
I've had no interest for the recruitment, albeit I've done zero sales job for it.
Is this game worth continuing for you? Please be honest.
cheers
