A group of young heroes are precipitated into an adventure that reveals their true heritage and their destiny.

Houserules:

Houserules:

Casting: When casting a spell defensivly if you fail you do not automaticly lose the spell, rather you provoke an attack as you normally would for not casting defensive. If you are hit you must make a concentration check dc 10+damage taken if you fail this check you lose the spell.

Fumble: If you roll a natural 1 on your attack roll, make a dexterity check. If you get less than 10 you fumble. If you get more than 10 your attack simply misses very badly. If you roll a natural 20 you get your attack back, roll another attack roll!

Super crits: If you roll a natural 20 on a critical and when you roll another 20 to confirm this is a super crit, increase your weapons modifier by 1. (ex: X2 becomes X3)

Rolls:
Many rolls will be handled by the GM in secret.(don't worry, I don't fudge.)
Any result that can influence the character behavior will not be rolled open.
Rolls that will be handled by the GM:
Perception
Sense Motive.

if you make the check I will send you a pm or make a post and put it in a spoiler depending on the situation.

Sometimes I will roll Initiative others I will ask you to roll depending on the situation. In some situation (rarely) I will bypass init entirely and have you all go first and enemies second or have enemies go first and you all go after.

Combat rules:
I'm a fair GM, I dont roll combat in secret, I don't change results, I don't ignore bad calls from the characters.
Sometimes, character dies, but I'm not a player killer, if I think that an encounter will be easy handled, when it should be more challenging, I will make it a more challenging, if the party it's not prepared to face something, I will drop hints, if they insist... well killing one or two players never made me lack sleep...

Actions:
I'm a GM that do not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visual appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! If what you want to do is wicked cool, I can even bend the game mechanics to allow it! The most importat part is: You are villains. Villains are smart, resourceful and have style! Have you ever seen a memorable villain that could just swing his sword and do nothing more?

Posting Rate
If it could be done, I expect 1/day posting, if you can post more, it will really good.
During weekend, this rule does not apply. If you are able to post, great! But dont stress over this, everyone need some time to rest (In my case, I need time to play and DM :D on my tabletop games).

Level up
Aside from character creation, when you level up, if you want something not from core rulebook, you'll need to search it inside the game. basicly what you need to do is just show in game your character is searching for that knowledge. This rule is not meant to prohibit anything, I just don't like something like this: "Character always as a full caster, never picked up a sword in his entire life, and then he gain a new level and says: Master, I'll level up as a fighter now..."

You wake up early in the morning knowing that today was an important day.

Today you are are going to travel to Promise the only settlement of any significance on the island and you are going to take the test of citizenship. If you fail you will be exiled from the island, which to some might seem enviable. Life in hope is rather dull afterall.

Each day is spent either doing chores of training with your mentors. Old warriors who push you to be the best you can be insisting that it's important that you be ready. When you ask them for what they avoid the question often saying for the test of citizenship but you have a feeling there is more too it.

You look at your birthmark on your wrist and for a moment it seems to shimmer. You pause. It never did that before. You spend some time examining it but it stays inert...Was it just your imagination?

You hear your master calling for you to get ready and there is no time to ponder you and the other youths of the village need to get ready for the trip to the city.

Flare was all smiles as she looked to her companions, walking alongside Riven. "I wonder what sort of tests we're going to be in for. Surely with how varied and well... different our training's been, it can't be the same test for everyone. But it would be odd if they made Tormod or Riven fight a dragon, and instead had me carve a statue of said dragon, you know?" She looked from person to person to gauge their responses as she went. Her excitement was palpable. She brushed at the ever-present 'make-up' that was plaster on her cheek with one sleeve.

"Will they make Thalion heal the dragon between fights, and heal the others between fights? Or will he just be supposed to shoot the dragon? What if they make us all fight the dragon together?" Flare moved with the ease of a dancer, using her unusual polearm as a walking stick so that it would be both at the ready, and out of the way. Her tools jangled in the belt she was wearing over her parade armor.

Not to be the kind of person to intentionally leave people out, Flare added after a moment's thought, though not quite enough for others to get a word in edgewise, "Then again, I can't really see them making Cynthia fight a dragon. That seems like a really strange choice, so maybe it would be all about helping. And Victor might be able to hurl some interesting things at it. Maybe stick its mouth up.. or burn it?" she tilted her head. It was clear the girl had dragons on the mind. She was probably thinking about the contract that would follow when they passed.

Riven walked along with the others her short blonde hair combed down to partly cover her eyes, she worn light clothing that allowed fluid movement,a small book attached to either leg, and lacked any form of armor.

She carried her spear over her shoulder allowing her a free hand which she played with her signature wooden ball, throwing it up a short distance before catching it, if the ball strayed from her grasp too long it would stop midair and slowly float back to her.

Victor shrugs, tugging up the collar of his black greatcoat "Its true, I could throw something at this dragon - although I suspect that would only make it mad". Idly, he brushes his dark hair out of his eyes and pulls a small paperback out from his many pockets, leafing through it casually before sighing slightly and putting it away again "Nope, nothing in here about previous tests, I guess we will be 'winging it' as they say", he mutters with a note of disgust.

"Are you afraid?" Cynthia asked, tilting her head slightly and letting her hair - silvery-grey decades before its proper time - fall into place. As usual, she didn't seem to be doing much on her own - but then, the martial crafts had never been the focus of her own training, and she often had a different perspective on matters than everyone else did. On the other hand, she was unarguably a part of their group - and however she acted, it was true that she faced a test just like the rest of them... but she would definitely help the others however she could.

Victor raises an eyebrow, soem his his trademark ego creeping into his tone "I hardly think so, I ran through all the possible situations that could be thrown at us, and looked for possible solutions to each one, whatever we face will be within our abilities or it won't, thus, I have prepared as much as I can and therefore have no fear"

Flare looked to the others, keeping her face turned away from Victor as she grinned and rolled her eyes. "I wouldn't say afraid, either. I'd say excited. And nervous. Are you?" She turned back to the shaman seriously, but still had the smile on her face.

"And...that is why I am so glad I will be taking this test alongside you, Victor." With a playful punch to his arm, Thalion darts a short distance away before pausing and studying a squirrel by the side of the road. "That is, assuming we get to take the test as a team." He scratches his roughly trimmed brown hair as he straightens up.

"Say, Flare, you did say you were going to sculpt me something someday. Hope you'll get around to it soon!" With a beaming smile just a touch too forced, Thalion settles into step alongside the redhead.

The shaman blinked, her gaze seeming to focus on something more than what was visible. "Yes, I am afraid." she said calmly. "I know my enemy, and because I know him, I fear him. And I hope you may regain your own fear in the days to come - one who understands their fear without letting it control them is much more reliable than one who feels no fear at all." she nodded slightly, then looked ahead again as they continued to walk.

Flare rolled her eyes in full view of Thalion, grinning, "That's as soon as you settle on something you'll actually keep up with. I make things all the time and just... leave them places. It'd be no real trouble for me to do the same for you, 'cept with leaving them at your front door."

Flare's smile drooped a little at Cynthia's response as she thought about exactly what the girl was saying. "Well isn't that a little bit depressing? Logical, sure, but... it kinda takes the fun out of things doesn't it? Being afraid all the time? And there are different kinds of afraid. Nervous, anxious, panicked, draconic..." she trailed off.

Cynthia's mouth twitched towards a smile at the last bit. "It isn't so hard to manage when I see more hope than fear in the world." she answered calmly. "I fear my enemies, but that does not mean I plan on allowing them to overcome us. And if they are not afraid of us now, then they most certainly be by the time we're through with them."

"Bah. I'd rather turn them into friends. It's a lot more fun when people -aren't- cowering, I'd think. I mean, history's got a lot of stuff about kingdoms falling because they were based on fear, rather than mutual trust. That's what they should really be afraid of. Friendship. Well... not exactly. Thalion's face contorts in an obvious effort to decipher Cynthia's words. He knows Cynthia's words are never to be taken likely. If only they were not so much like Joley's lessons sometimes.

With a sigh, Thalion attempts a response. "Can't say I have an enemy here in Hope. I am afraid, though." Catching himself brooding, Thalion fingers the wooden symbol in the shape of a bow and arrow hanging about his neck. "A little, that is. Wish Joley would tell me more about what we will be doing."

Apruptly, he lets out a short yelp, pulls out a sling bullet and fires it off into the distance. "There. I just fired off my worry into the distance. Should be a good day from here on out." Yet, as he puts his sling away, Thalion's eyes look to the mark on his wrist...

Your four mentors (Joley, Zack, Andrela and Isabeau) arrive to meet you.

"Good your all ready we need to get going soon if were to arrive in time for the opening ceremonies..." says Zack he is interrupted...As he turns to regard a stranger that has just walked into town.

Hope rarely gets visitors...Usually you have a peddler that comes to trade about once a month but that's about it...A young girl around your age casually strolls into town. She is looking around in an excited fashion. She has a Rapier with a golden hit and a red ruby on the hilt and her she wears a leather armor with a red vest and a flowing red cape with embellishments that makes it obvious it is finely crafted and expensive.

As she spot you she runs over with surprising grace.

Master Joley moves to speak to her and utters a greeting but she completely ignores him and walks up to Thalion.

"Could you be?" she whisper and suddenly grabs his wrist and twist it to see his mark..Seeing it she has a look of utter shock and she steps back letting out a high pitched squeal.

"YOU ARE!!! I cant believe I finally found one of you!..." she regards the others..."Oh my...More than one I think."

"ENOUGH!!!" shouts Zack in a tone that causes her to go quick and turn around most likely noticing him for the first time.

Your mentors are all regarding her in a rather menacing way.

"SORRY!" she says performing a curtsy seeming very flustered at her lact of tact "I am Andrianna...My mentor Lucien Quintos sent me..."

"Lucien did?" says Andrela with a look and tone of disbelief yet the mentors all seems to have relaxed.

Joley goes to you "We need to speak to this Andrianna girl for some time to know why she came. Please go on ahead to the city and we will catch up." he says.

Victor frowns, looking at this stranger who has apparently been looking for Thalion. He sizes her up, judges that she isn't a threat, and likely has access to a bit of money if her clothing and weaponry are anything to go on.

Curious, but very much aware that attempting to hang around wouldn't particularly get him anywhere, Victor shrugs and moves on, while trying to remember anything of importance he might have heard about Lucien Quintos.

"Ah...er..." Thalion flushes slightly at the sudden attention from the visitor. Sensing the relaxing of the moods from the mentors, Thalion makes a mental know to find out more from Joley later. Thalion smiles broadly at Adrianna. "I hope to visit with you more later. We have something important to head off to for now."

With that, he turns his attention back to his friends. "Hey slowpoke, glad you finally made it! I wasn't sure how I would've been able to cover for you on a day like today, you know." The grin on his face betrays the relief at seeing Tormod. "Come on, let's get going!"

Just as he was about to dart off in the direction of the city, Thalion pauses to take a more respectful leave with a slight bow and a quick farewell to the mentors.

Cynthia looked at Andrianna for a few moments, blinking a little less often than most people did. "Of course, masters." she said calmly, looking to the others. "I've seen what I need to. Let's find someplace to wait." Those who knew her well would have no difficulties recognizing her tone, and were free to ask for her observations if interested. There was no bow or wave from Flare, as she looked back on the group, moving forward and looking perplexed. Her hand was massaging her wrist, a nervous gesture, as she goes on. "Well, -that- was rude. What do you suppose she meant by 'them'? And did you see how gaudy her sword was..? I mean, I get that it's still art, and it's a statement of wealth and all, but... Okay, yes, I'm a little jealous. Why does it seem like she knows more about these marks than we do..? Either way, we shouldn't wait. Like he said, we don't want to be late for our own ceremonies."

"A certain amount of fear is healthy I'd think, keeps you from doing anything too risky."

Thalion's yelp gets her attention but she doesn't stop playing with her wooden toy, she smiles with a nod."That's one way to deal with stress."

Riven doesn't seem to pay much attention to the women falling over Thalion but when Master Zack shouts she drops her wooden ball in surprise and gives them her near full attention save her calling the ball back to her hand.

She nods a welcome to Tormod as he comes to join the group.

"Maybe they explain them to citizens? She looks about our age so she might have just passed." She offered the guess she had to Flare's question.

Victor smiled slightly "The sword obviously reflects casual wealth, as well as the type of clothing she had, while also showed a slight lack of intelligence as well, openly carrying around something worth so much is hardly wise unless you want to attract trouble...nor did the sword look particularly used". Vicor pauses for breath "Its possible its simply an ornamental or decorative weapon, which seems to imply the person wielding it might not be the most skilled fighter...although travelling here on her own seems to contradict this", Victor frowns slightly, thinking hard upon this.

Cynthia actually smiled at Victor's words. "What else have you observed about her?" she inquired. "Surely the sword wasn't all you saw." It seemed to be an honest question on her part - she was actually trying to find out how much he'd been able to notice.

"Nothing much else besides the obvious", Victor replies "Shes about our age, reasonably attractive, somewhat lacking in decorum...and she obviously has exceptional influence if Lucien Quintos is her mentor...notice that she instantly knew who we were on sight, yet we know little about her...she's obviously been on some sort of journey for quite some time"

"I think you're forgetting where we are. This isn't like in the stories. We don't really have to worry about people mugging us, no matter how many lessons we have on the subject. Hope and Promise are as safe a place to dress and carry whatever you like as any place can be." Then she lets what the two were saying sink in a little. "Oh my goodness! Cynthia blinked, then calmly folded her hands behind her back and began speaking.

"She was dressed to stand out in any normal group of people, and it's clear this was a deliberate choice. Hope receives few visitors, and dressing in such a fashion would make her instantly memorable to the entire town." the Shaman began. "This was clearly an intentional choice, likely at the behest of her instructor, who I suspect has been raising her to be a hero and wants others to think of her as such."

"Despite this, she behaved boisterously, excitedly, and without proper decorum. It's unlikely that she is perfectly obedient to her instructor - rather, I believe she respects him, but is the type who jumps in too quickly and gets herself in trouble on a regular basis."

"Our mentors were surprised to see her. They clearly know her instructor and are on good terms with him, but were not expecting Andrianna to be here today - which, of course, is an extremely important day for us. This is further supported by her clothing - if our instructors were expecting a visitor, they should have recognized her as the most likely candidate on first glance, but they did not."

"I find it doubtful that the original plan was for her to be included in our test, but I suspect we will be grouped together with her as a last-minute alteration. If we are, she will almost certainly try to show off and demonstrate that she deserves to be part of our group, making it considerably more likely that she will get herself killed by doing something stupid."

"She has indeed been informed of more than we have, and has likely been told that it reflects a special destiny. This, in conjunction with her obviously expensive clothing and weaponry, further supports my impression that she has been given a high opinion of herself. Despite this, she does respect our teachers, and likely understands that they are still more important than she is. However, she will likely try to prove herself to them as soon as possible."

Cynthia stopped walking for just a moment, then resumed.

"A weapon known for elegance and a flashy fighting style, distinctive clothing, excitable personality, and an inflated ego. Probably behaves fearlessly until pushed too far, at which point her mind will collapse. In short: Troublesome and unreliable. I may need to arrange an... incident... for her own good." It was quite remarkable how casually she could approach topics like that... but she was a guide for others, and sometimes you needed to kick people off a cliff before you could help them back up.

Flare sighed as she started heading towards Promise, "But it's the most exciting, newest thing to happen to us in... months, practically! If we don't talk about that, all we'll have is weather and animals. I mean, I don't even have a story I haven't told a thousand times... I can't wait for the opportunity to see more than just... training and an occasional supervised trip into Promise. Y'know? If not the test, then, I guess what's everyone's plans once they pass?"

You head along towards the city and after a few hours you arrive in Promise. You still have a bit of time before the opening ceremonies and you find yourself in the city without your mentors around. A rare thing indeed.

Flare's question bothered Thalion for some reason, causing him to fall into thought for much of the trip. In time, the companion squirrel tired of the ride and took its leave, without much fanfare.

You know, I never did give it much thought. What happens after the test, that is. I just assumed life would resume. Perking up at the realization they are, for once, unchaperoned in the city, Thalion turned to the group. "Did anyone catch where our teachers told us to wait for them? If not, how about let's head to the market and take a look around!"

Cynthia looked slightly bemused at the responses. "Our enemies will not always stand still and wait for us to research them in a library. Being able to understand them in a single glance - including their motivations and probable abilities - was part of my own training." she noted. "There are no dangerous swords or spells - only dangerous people." With that, she began humming a quiet tune, glancing around the city for a moment before finding the open, central area and sitting down.

Let's see how accurate my predictions will be. Will it be a standard exam once our instructors arrive, or more of a surprise test of character?

The thought made her smile.

"I... don't really have much money, seeing as I spend all that I get on art supplies. Do you guys mind if I head to a library? I'd like to spend the time reading a book on something to get some more inspiration." She grinned at the prospect.

Of all the things in all the world, libraries were amongst her favorite... which was a strange thought. She wasn't nearly as clever as some of the folks in the group, but she viewed books in the same way she viewed her stoneworks, and the grand architecture of the city, and paintings, and flowers. Except that each page was its own piece of art.

"Or do you guys think we should stick together..?"

Tormod looks completely baffled at Flare's suggestion, like she had suggested taking a bath in stagnant water rather than spending some free time reading.

You need a book to get inspiration for the most important day of your life?

"...I don't oppose gathering knowledge, but now may not be the best time for it. I recommend that we stay together and patiently wait for the masters to arrive." Cynthia said quietly. "It shouldn't be too long until they get here - and if it is, then we'll have bigger problems to worry about."

"Spoilsport." Flare said, tongue-in-cheek. All part of her friendly banter. She leaned back and looked at a nearby tree in a slow, sweeping motion, moving her eyes far too slowly. She didn't have a great eye for danger or the like, but she did have an artist's eye.

"You're my hero Riven! Oh, wait, I have a little bit too." Thalion instinctively reaches for his own pouch. "Let's see now. Five, six...eight. Eight silvers. That may be enough for a bit of food. What do you all say? Let's at least take a quick walk through the market and may be find a little something to fill our stomachs." Thalion grins at the redhead before continuing. "THAT might bring me some inspiration!"

"I'm fine with whatever everyone else settles for. And now I feel less bad about how empty my purse is." she grins as she shakes her head at the heft of Riven's coinpurse. "Not fair for us to spend your money, you know. And I'm fairly sure feeding the boys could very well take all your money in one fell swoop."

"Oh I hardly think so, I'm quite capable of buying my own food if I so choose", Victor remarks in a faintly superior tone, before realising his mistake, and adding in a slightly softer tone "that said, it was kind of you to offer...thank you"

Riven highly doubted they could or would waste all of her money but she could always get more so it wouldn't bother her much if they did, she handed her pouch of coins to Thalion.

"Consider it our pre-celebration." She said with a smile and a nod not wanting to mention the fact this could be their last day of their old home.

Flare just smiled and shook her head, continuing to take in her tree as best she could... to the trained eye, letting her eyes linger on her companions a little longer than she probably should if she were simply dedicating the tree to memory.

You wander about getting a bit to eat and exploring a bit and you notice your marks still shimmer from time to time.

Your mentors don't show up and time is running it out so you go to the opening ceremonies were the gold dragon Mengkare in human form (an old man with a long white beard in a golden robe) makes a long winded speech about the promise of the next generation and the privilege it is to be a citizen. You and 10 other candidates are ushered into the hall of trials.

"You enter together and you must try to make your way trough to the other side. You will be tested mentally and physically and in the end we will determine if you are of use and what your role will be in society based on you performance. It is possible to fail one of the test and still become a citizen but if you act in a manner that is not befitting of someone of Hermea you will be banished." is the explanation given by Mengkare

You enter the first room along with 10 other candidates and first yourselves in an immense library. With rows upon rows of books.

Your marks have begun to glow and can be seen trough thin cloth now and some of the other candidates have started to notice them and seem curious.

Cynthia looked down at the mark on her hand - a divine focus as well as something else, it seemed - and smiled slightly as she glanced around the area to learn as much as she could. "Hmm..." she exhaled slightly, her mind racing, calculating, and processing things. Then, quite calmly, she began to look around the area for anything that was either particularly interesting or particularly dangerous, taking care to move slowly enough to avoid any traps that might have appeared.

Since Riven had wound up paying for her food as a celebratory breakfast of sorts, Flare felt obligated to continue the celebration... by handing out the gifts she'd planned to give later. Each person received a small pewter statue of themselves (not unlike a DnD Miniature) from what normally served as Flare's coin purse. Which was delightfully empty. It had been clearly carved with care, though the value was determined by the materials and size. Each was a minor trinket, probably worth little more than a gold piece, should they want to sell it, but the meaning was there. Flare had been thinking about all of them over the last week, and had taken time out of her routine to make something small for them.

"Well, that's good news, that we're being tested together. Who here is good at what?" she asked quickly of the ten 'new' people. "Also, it's not polite to stare, and no, we don't know why we're glowing. Least I don't." She grinned as her eyes darted from person to person, before looking to their resident prophet, and tilting her head as a way of asking her.

"Flare! This is amazing!" Thalion dotes over his gift and hugs Flare before remember where he was and the task ahead of him. "Ahem...that is...Ok, what's our test again?"

He looks between Victor and Cynthia, and stares at his own shimmering mark. Frustrated over the lack of ideas, he makes a gesture and invokes a call to Erastil for guidance before taking a quick survey about the room.

spell:
Guidance, +1 to the perception skill check coming up

He follows the gesture with another short incantation and begins to look about the room more closely.

Ok, what did Joley...no...what did Andrela say about being in these situations? Act, trust your instinct. Leave the thinking to those gifted in thinking...hey, wait a minute!

An inspired realization about an advice from lessons long past nearly breaks Thalion's concentration. A strange expression crosses his face momentarily before the look of concentration takes over again and he continues his scan about the room.
