Chapter 3 - Circling Sharks

The storm spins overhead. Lightning crashes, fiery explosions cast red glares in brief bursts over the city. Freezing rain sweeps the streets, and the cities' dazers shamble toward the lightning struck house.

Oh no...

Trissae:

The cloth and hay scarecrow seems to grow to terrifying proportions, it looms terribly and fills the rooms. It seems to be made of every force set against you for many years, and you are unable to act in the daunting horror of it.

You are paralyzed until the end of the scarecrow's next turn.

Moving not far to assist Ozz, Adrien's attacks seem to only graze the straw body of the scarecrow attacking him.

Trissae is motionless, unable to move and has a terrified look on her face.

Tease stands near Trissae with the spear, trying to defend her as best as he can.

To scarecrows move forward. Three of them surround Ozz, seemingly unconcerned with Adrien. One, however, advances silently on Trissae and Tease.

In a clearly weak manner, Tease lashes out with the spear and skewers the scarecrow through the head in an impressively. The scarecrow seems only partially affected by this, however, and advances on him.

Tease manages to get out of the way of the first swing of claws, but the next cuts through his chest, dropping him bleeding to the ground.

The three around Ozz let loose in an assault of swinging claws (And at this range you can see that several of them already have blood on their hands). Dodging, blocking, and letting his armor work, Ozz fends off attack after attack, and only gets injured a slight bit through the barrage of grasping blows.

Ozz, take 7 damage from a single hit and roll a wisdom(fear) save

Getting back her composure, Trissae shakes off the effects after watching Tease fall near her.

I'll have a map up this evening, guys.

Trigrell:

In the future, making a ranged attack while in melee causes disadvantage, and there isn't a freebee 5 foot step back anymore. You have to take a disengage Action to withdraw without provoking.

Your firebolt launches true, incinerating the scarecrow. As you begin to catch your breath and look around for new threats, however, the eerily beautiful music can be heard once again.

You listen to it for a moment, and realize it is coming back down the hallway where you came from, from the termination point of the trail of blood you saw in that first room. Suddenly, the music drops off mid-note and you can somehow make out the voice of Adrien through two doors and some distance between.

"Ozz look out!" You can hear the sounds of fighting.

Grellik starts. "There it is again!." He looks around, searching for the music. When he hears Adrians voice, his eyes go wide. "Adrian? Ozz? But they're in custody..."
When the thought that they may have escaped somehow, but are now in renewed danger propells him to act, and he rushes toward the voice.

When he reaches the door, he will burst through it as well, coming to the rescue, he hopes :D

Trissae, Adrien and Ozz:

You all hear the sounds of heavy footfalls coming from the passage with the bloodstain. Moments later, the door bursts open revealing a massive man wearing chain mail armor. He's wielding a great sword, is covered from head to toe in clothes and armor, has his face covered by a blank face mask and in front of that is the grinning, toothy smile of a Bogshark inked onto a cloth draped across the bottom half of the mask.

Grellik, the bugbear. Back from his near year long trip away from the Evermoores to dig into his own mysterious past, just in the nick of time. Several deep claw marks are visible on his chest.

Grelikuma Aseiri:

No worries, for the sake of advancing we'll go with it for now.

Dashing down through the hallways and pushing the doors open as you go, you emerge into the first room that had several farm plots and scarecrows to find the room partially transformed.

The scarecrows have all moved, and seem to be attacking a group of four people. You see Ozz, your half-orc bogshark friend in full bogshark gear (complete with oni looking snarling sharp-toothed half mask) holding a lantern in one hand and swinging a battleaxe in the other. He seems slightly injured.

Near him and the cluster of three scarecrows attacking him is a Shield of Yartar, one of the town's soldiers fighting with a couple of curved blades. He's covered in blood, but doesn't have any obvious injuries.

On the wall near you, you see a scarecrow looming over another downed Shield of Yartar, a dwarf with a shaved head, a spear lies fallen near him. He appears to be just beginning to bleed out.

Behind him, and if being protected by the fallen guard, is Trissae, the drow Bogshark wearing her black-cat outfit. A costume she wears when she feels like playing the theatrical villain, often used in a dramatic reveal of sinister intent during raiding missions. She also seems injured, and is shaking herself out of some kind of spell, regaining her wits.

You don't see Adrien anywhere, nor any of your other Bogshark friends.

Nice. Adrien, take 3 damage from the attack you took from not disengaging, and gain inspiration you ballsy guy.

With Adrien's flying swing insufficient to grant him advantage, the attack misses critically as Ozz bumps into him while attempting to defend himself.

In the slight entanglement, both men separate and then look down to realize a second before it is too late that one of Adrien's torches has hit against, and has been igniting the leaking oil in the lantern Ozz is holding.

The lantern finally splits, sending burning oils over the nearby area. The room lights up with a flash, and dims just a suddenly. Some of the nearby plants have been covered in burning oils (only hazardous to bare feet).

Ozz, roll a reflex or take 4 fire damage. Half on a success (13 or higher). Adrien, your success means you only take 2 fire damage.

Two of the scarecrows in the area are unable to avoid the flaming oil at all, while the one Ozz had been beating on only takes some damage from it.

Grellik, at the guard's scolding, you can recognize his voice as Adrien's despite his somewhat different looks. Adrien blaming any mistake on the half-orc has been a long tradition, at least since the half-orc came to accept the human as a Bogshark.

Ozz waves off the offer for a potion. "Just need some rest. Save it."

"I... I think he'll be okay" the kid says. "You managed to stop his bleeding."

Adrien:

You recognize this kid from the street the first time you saw Tease using Thieves Cant, just before the fight with the rats. The ruby sword you recognize as being worn by the woman you made the plans for your escape with when you were helping Captain Wen with the sick.

Cavell looks down, surprised as Ozz takes out the scarecrow from the ground. He stays alert a moment longer but it's clear the fight is over.

He offers a hand to Grellik to help him untangle from Ozz and Triss, grinning again. "Never been so happy to see such an ugly bastard."

Although not very strong, especially compared to Grellik, Cavell sets his feet apart and gives decent leverage to help the bugbear out.

He shakes his head at the half-orc, "Stubborn damned Orc, thought you were dead."

"Never" says Ozz, wincing as Trissae gets off of him. "So... We did it, didn't we? We really f$!&ing pulled it off? It didn't feel real until I was on the ground bleeding, kept thinking the other shoe would drop and there would be that dick Frostheight with his greasy mustache and personal guard. But instead... Just a bunch of monsters. We really got out of there."

"Was there ever any doubt?" He grins.
