Happy to be picked, and looking forward to seeing the rest of the players.

Congratulations to both Kyrani and Lady Natalia.

I do have a question, though. Alezzandro, what book is the Dread class in? I'm interested in reading it.

It comes from the 5th book of Psionics Expanded from Dreasmcarred. If you haven't gotten a chance to look at it I highly recommend it. The books also introduce my most favorite thing about psionics, the collective.

Rupert Saint, Male Human Rogue 1/Cleric 2

Description:
Rupert Saint freely admits that this is not his true name, but what’s in a name anyway? Would a knife by any other name not cut as deep? He bills himself as a “professional rogue”, spending his time and money in gambling dens and whorehouses. He’s been thrown in jail more times than he can remember, but he always seems to get out.

Rupert doesn’t seem to have much ambition. He seems happy where he’s at, and doesn’t feel the need to rise any higher. He always manages to find good food to eat, nice clothes to wear, and a warm bed to sleep in, and who could ask for more?

Personality:
Rupert is easy-going and an incorrigible rogue. He doesn’t seem to take anything in life seriously, least of all any immediate danger. He enjoys the finer things in life, but abstains from drugs and drink. He claims he’s allergic to anything that dulls his wits, and that includes dull people.

Backstory:
Rupert’s not very forthcoming about his past. The details change each time he tells it, and he seems to like it that way. However, if you asked the right people, you’d learn that he used to be a street kid. No home, no parents, no dreams. Nowhere to go, and all the time in the world to get there. He spent a lot of time skirting the edges of the different thieves’ guilds. Any time he had money, he was in gambling halls. There were a few people who helped him along, mostly retired cons, but he made sure to keep away from the guilds. One night, while he was minding his own business, the city watch picked him up for a murder that he didn’t commit. To this day, he doesn’t know why or how. But that night, locked in a prison cell for the first time, he discovered a penchant for escaping from sticky situations. Since then, he’s been in jail plenty of times, for all sorts of charges, but he gets out every time. Nobody’s really sure what’s caused his change of heart or why he’s signing up with the Blood Knives. Maybe he got in a bit over his head at the gambling halls. Maybe it had something to do with that first night in prison. Maybe he just figured life would be more fun that way.

The Interview:
What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible.

"The list of things I can’t do is probably shorter. I can pickpocket, I can cut purses, I can plant evidence, I can gamble, I can cheat, I can lie. I can acquire information, whether by bribe, by skullduggery, by charm, or by intimidation. I can take the fall for any job and escape any prison. I can deliver packages and shine your shoes. I can find a delicious breakfast to steal in the morning, and let me tell you, I’ve stolen some delicious breakfasts. I can keep listing things off until I’m blue in the face and you’re willing to pay me to shut up. The only thing I will not do is kill, but if you’re looking for that sort of thing, I know a guy you may be interested in speaking with…"

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself in two years? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish?

"I haven’t given it much thought. I suppose, if in two years, I can wake up in a comfortable bed and eat a delicious breakfast, I’ll be happy. Maybe I’d buy a boat. Boats are nice. Especially ones that come stocked with breakfast. And servants. And maybe an anchor! Yeah…y’know, some of the best sleep I’ve ever had was on a boat."

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon.

"Hah! I never get caught…by accident. The local jailhouse and I have a long history. I’ve been in and out of every one of those cells. Hell, I've got a set of lock picks hidden in most of them. If I get caught, I give up. And then I escape. Or maybe I pretend to be an innocent bystander; I play a very convincing ignorant whelp. You've got a taste of that already, I measure. If all else fails, well, the gods will look after me. It depends on what I’m caught doing, really. There are many approaches to a given situation. Would you like to give me a situation?"

Good job on getting picked Darkstalker, Lady Natalia, and Kyrani. If I get picked, then I'm thinking that Irasa would be the sort to give out nicknames to his associates. I haven't come up with what he'd call the others, but I'm thinking Kyrani strikes me as the sort that he'd call Fancy.

Actually she goes by the name Tabby (as the cat) because of her ability to speak to catfolk.

I know, I was just making a reference to the song that sounds like it helped inspire elements of Tabby's backstory.

dang... my secret is out.

actually, I find lots of character inspiration in songs. in this case the idea came to me after a Reba Concert
try to stay away from movies though.

I swapped out a feat and some skills after seeing the first three selections. Trying to balance out the skills. I will update the crunch soon.

Well, unfortunately I'm gonna have to rescind my application. Seriously, I love the campaign concept.

However, even after I've spent all this time with Stannis's crunch, I'm just not feeling his fluff. Just can't get it right, and I don't think I can get enthusiastic about his character.

Oh well, maybe another time. Good luck everyone who's entered, and congrats to the three that got it already. Good luck with it folks.

Congratulations to the next recruit, Rupert Saint, aka The Dread Pirate Hurley.

O darn it the Discussion alone for this game is better then the RP in most, I rescind my rescind, if only to grt in on the Inn RP wile the players get picked. You know you may have started some thing new here, Voice :).

Congrats Rupert!

since crunch wise we're damn near the same character I doubt my submission will make it now. Looks like it will be a great game. Enjoy all.

Indeed - Congrats Rupert!

Holy Toledo! Looking at the discussion thread, it looks like the game will be a little more active than I would be able to participate in.

Withdrawing.

Congrats to those who made it in and good luck to the rest. Thanks.

Hello, I am interested, but need to adjust the character. Backstory and all will be adjusted in profile.

Bravo Rupert and congratulations!

I’ll try to update this under my main character sheet… but here it goes

What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible.:

Every operation needs labor and every boss likes to have his lair. Have you ever wondered how that criminal mastermind came about his sumptuous lair, well if it were not for the likes of Elandor Nark, those magnificent masterpieces might not be.

Elandor cringes at the thought of some of the crews he has worked with, but what else is a man with dreams and aspirations to do. Elandor is not a criminal at heart, but the pursuit of his convictions has lead him to pursue other means of achieving his ends.

Anyways, who do think keeps the books legit, those street urchins who can barley read?

You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish??:

Elandor sees himself operating a genuine construction/architecture business with some “side work.” He would have a team of followers with additional undead laborers to assist them. With time he will devote himself to create undead capable of creativity!
As full-fledged member of the Church of Akabar, he simply “provides labor” to some profitable renovation and architecture work. How long will that cover last? Last time his “crew” was found digging under some wealthy merchants warehouse, it was easy, who else would want to work on sewer line tunneling
Seems I am past the due date. I will withdraw.

I think I'm going to withdraw. Alezzandro isn't really working out in this scenario. It's not really his scene he's more of a creeper. I'm struggling to have him do anything but sit in the corner and observe. Unless you were like just about to pick me I'm throwing in my vote for Sweet.

Wow. Thank you! :)

Dropping out again, just seen the fight over rules, not my idea of fun guys, so i'm out for good.

There was a fight over rules?? Did I miss that? ..

Or do you mean the the stuff in the discussion thread? I'm sorry if two players had differing views on something. It happens though, probably a fair amount..

Haven't had a chance to work on the NPC yet. Sorry. I've been exceptionally busy at work. I'll get him written up as soon as I can.

No worries TCG, to make up for your slacking, we'll your NPC the flaw XP Farm from that issue of Dragon, which means your worth 10x the XP as normal...

Art imitates life.

Lantern Lodge

I heard you were looking for some fresh blood? (From my GM in Rise of the Runelords, so Lady Natalia)

I had a Gnomish Alchemist using the Saboteur and Grenadier Archetypes (and a level of Rogue, maybe 2) in a game on another site which sadly died before it started and would love to give the gall a try here.

Let me know if that type of character could fill the opening you have at the moment (and whether you'll consider me or not) and I'll get to work on converting the character.

As for the questions:

1) What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible.
Bregha is an expert engineer and saboteur. She knows her way around explosives and traps and has many more tricks up her sleeve. If needed she can even step in to patch people up due to her own experience with experimental mishaps.

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish??
Getting better at sneaking around and making bombs. Pull bigger jobs. The thrill of the job is Bregha's goal. That and building the perfect clock (one has to have a hobby)

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon. There is this thing called a smoke bomb, or better, a stink bomb. They are perfect for getting yourself out of nasty situations. Simply throw one down and use the ensuing madness to escape.

Alright Lady Natalia, let's see if I can get into a fourth game with you. I swear I'm not a stalker though :)

Not sure if my concept overlaps with other peoples, but after switching ideas a few times I've settle on a level 1 cleric of Calistria with 2 levels of Court Bard. (Originally it was cleric/rogue, but there seemed enough rogueish activity in the group.) If the current classes are alright, just let me know and I'll work up some background for her behind this alias.

About those questions:

1) What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible.

She will bring a wide range of knowledge skills including: local, nobility, religion and arcane. She has a decent charisma score and a variety of social skills. She will also bring a debuff to put on their enemies and a selection of (hopefully) useful spells.

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish?

Lucrezia is a devout follower of Calistria and one day she plans to own/run her own house of worship/brothel dedicated to her goddess and serving the nobility of the region who can afford the outrages sums of money she would love to charge. (Of course she will also have a side business of blackmailing some of those nobles as well.)

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon.

Attempt to charm my way out of it using either my social, divine or arcane abilities.

Qadira

What's happening.

Varius Noma is still interested. Willing to touch up build or backstory if needed. He was an original applicant.

Edit: If this was supposed to be by invitation, my apologies, I'm just super interested still.

Previous answers:

1) What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible.
-Varius is extremely deadly. He will be using his abilities to catch his enemies flat footed, and get as many swings in as he can, getting multiple sneak attacks per round. His weapons also overcome DR/Silver, Cold Iron
-Varius can infiltrate anything, between his stealth, disguise, and bluff abilities. He is a master of deception and information gathering, and has been training in disguise his entire life.
-Varius is a fantastic party face. He would be a vital tool in securing the party many successes through diplomatic means. He could easily learn how to get people to look the other way, whether that be through black-male, coin, or if needs-be death.

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish??
-Varius sees himself becoming extremely wealthy, and lavishing in a tip top lifestyle. He wants to have the financial backing to create an alias as a count. This would allow him to live his alternative life at the top of the social chain. He also loves women, but has no plans right now to get married, just to enjoy himself as much as possible, finding more wealthy and powerful women as his targets. This would give him the upper hand in black-male.

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon.
-a. Bluff 1d20+10 "Theif? Hah, if only I had the brains. I've been working here for a week now. Jory's the name, don't believe I've seen you around yet."
-b. If that fails, jump out of a window, door, or tumble right past him: Acrobatics 1d20+7
-c. If this isn't working, break a smoke stick, go invisible (ninja trick),...

I'm looking for a melee/front liner. Doesn't need to be a tank, but needs to be able to hold it's own.

That said, if I don't get any in the next few days, I'll go with somebody else.

Varius is a ninja with a combat build based on mobility and flanking. He has AC 18/20 (+3 dex, +5 armor/+2 shield), with awesome flanking ability (step-up) and tumble +7. At lvl 4 he'll have vanish which will increase his survivability by a ton.

Lantern Lodge

I also have an idea for a melee character using a custom race, basically the bigger, burlier cousin of the Vanara (using an Orang-utan as the basis instead of the Gray Langur) but I have no idea what RP total is acceptable. The version I have atm was meant for an NPC so I'll tune it down a bit and post it here when it's ready. (the original version is large size, among other things, and I'm not sure that'd be ideal)

The character himself would be both a brute and an acrobat, probably using the Unarmed Fighter Fighter archetype, but not sure yet.

That said, it might take a bit to convert it to a lower point value and keep the same feel. Feel free to take someone else if it takes too long.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Are you still recruiting?

Voice is still looking for a front liner to replace one of our players, yes

Hmmm . . .. I'm at lunch right now, but I put together a character last night that MIGHT meet your desires, after a couple of tweaks.

How about a Lawful Evil Ki Mystic of the Four Winds (Monk) with Panther Style & Claw?

I'll have to get off work, tweak the concept (originally Lawful Good and I took a 7 Charisma) and get some typing in for you to see the whole set-up . . ..

Cuan, Hustonj, feel free to write up those concepts as best as you can.

Here is a submission for a cad/2 rogue/1. Her sheet is behind this alias, though I haven't finished the sections for combat and equipment yet.

1) What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible. Her skills with a blade and a ruthlessness in getting what she wants. Also, since turning to a life of crime, she's been learning the skills to be a decent thief.

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish? She's a bit unsure of longterm goals other than being wealthy and successful no matter what she does. Her most recent thought is to become the trusted 2nd in command to successful crime lord. That way she would still be quite wealthy, but not be as a big a target for competitors.

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon. Bluff and pretend to surrender, then suckerpunch the closest person and try to run/fight my way out.

No risk HP rolls . . ..
1d8 ⇒ 7
1d8 ⇒ 1

+2/Level from Con & +1/Level from Favored Class (with a 5 minimum on the above rolls and 8 from Level 1) gives 29 HP.

Profile has what I have got typed up so far. I have more to do, obviously. I will answer your IC questions once I have completed at least the top 3 descriptive bits.

Oh, this is hustonj.

Lantern Lodge

Working on it right now, should be done early tomorrow. Race conversion to something more doable than the old large version is done. Ended p with 12 points. Name is a work in progress.

Pongid:

Size: Medium 0 RP
Type: Humanoid (Vanara) 0 RP
Speed: Normal (30 ft) 0 RP
Language: Standard (Common, Vanara + Aklo, Elven, Gnome, Goblin, Sylvan) 0 RP

Stats - Flexible: +2 STR, +2 Wis 2 RP

Natural Armor +1 NA 2 RP
Skill Bonus +2 Acrobatics, Intimidate 4 RP

Climb 20 ft 2 RP

Natural Attack Slam 1d6 1 RP

Low-Light Vision 1 RP

Pongids have red fur covering their entire body with hand, feet and face left free. While related to Vanaras they lack that race's long tail and are actually much taller (pushing the boundaries of medium size) as well as calmer than their cousins.

1) What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible.

"I bring nothing. An empty vessel seeking to be filled. A container strong enough to withstand the power of water, light enough to not encumber, and weak enough for a child to fold. This container can be used as you choose.

"It is far more accustomed to handling those who refuse to comply rather than seeking out new patrons."

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish??

"I seek only to follow the path that Irori has laid out before me. The more I can learn about myself, the more I can perfect that which is me, the closer I will have come to my goals.

"I should note that there is nothing wrong with having sake, women, and song available. Somehow, they make the time spent learning more enjoyable, don't you think?"

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon.

"Caught? Doing what?" Phi's on breaks for a moment, his expression becoming confused. "Ah, that is not relevant. I understand, I believe.

"I leave. If they are slow enough that I can simply flee, then the situation resolves itself. If they are too many to evade, or the situation makes simple flight impossible, then I willingly turn myself over to them, providing no resistance until they give me an opportunity to slip whatever bonds they use, and then I flee.

"If either of these seems too difficult, then I would need to resort to more drastic measures. Bones are amazingly easy things to break. People with freshly broken bones do not tend to be able to prevent the departure of people they wanted prisoner. It is always unfortunate when another forces this choice upon me, but I am trained to ensure that they regret dong so."

--------------

As for the question about how much evil is too much . . .. I'm closer to 50 years old than 40, and am a military veteran. I acknowledge the truths of history. Not just what man has done to man before, but what was casually accepted as normal. This is not the same as condoning or supporting such activity. It does make it far simpler to accept such activity as part of a story, though.

Now, explicitly detailed and graphic descriptions to ensure we understand what is happening are inherently NOT required. There are far less aggressive ways to communicate something if the point needs to be made.

Just an opinion.

--------------

Oh, and I have the full character write-up at least drafted, now. I can expand/detail any part of it more if desired. All the text is really a rough draft, and example of how I write with a little time and no real re-work involved.

Sheet is still under construction, but here is the concept. (Couldn't find a good picture so a gorilla will have to do)

Mogir Kinscorned, Rogue (Thug) 2 / Barbarian (Urban, Invulnerable Rager) 1. My a change of tactics from the unarmed fighter. Mogir will mix and match Barbarian and Rogue though I don't know how exactly just yet as I'll let that depend on character and game development.
Mogir will focus on a combination of intimidation and hitting power using his earthbraker or something similarly big.

Background:

Hailing from a jungle village on the Vudran sub-continent Mogir's early life was untroubled. He grew up quietly, learning the way of his people and eventually taking a mate to spend his life with. It were the tribal traditions however that eventually drove him away.

The biggest taboo among Mogir's people is murder. Being very few in number a single murder is detrimental to all the tribes. As such tribal warfare is highly ritualised and instead of killing your enemies you knock them out after which they are bound to serve as your tribe's slave for exactly one year and one day, after which they are free to return to their own tribe. Slaves are generally treated well though things like rape (of both male and female slaves) is not unheard of.

During a war with a neighbouring tribe it was Mogir's mate that got captured and made slave. While this saddened him greatly, he was bound to be patient and simply wait for his beloved to return. Time slowed to a crawl as he waited for the entire year as he counted down the days till her return. Once the fateful day arrived he went to edge of the other tribe's territory to wait for her. What he saw arriving however wasn't at all what he expected: She returned to him bruised, fur matted with blood and pregnant. When asked what happened she told that she had been raped by her captor several months ago and that when she wanted to leave for her own tribe once her time was done he resisted and hit her. Infuriated though he was he was unable to do anything and instead they resolved to get the elders to act.

The elders however refused to interfere. What happened during the year and a day of slavery was to no longer be discussed and as such no action could be taken. His mate was in tears but Mogir instead decided to do something about it by himself.

That night he snuck into the other tribe's territory. His fur painted black with soot to better hide in the night he came with only a single goal: butcher his mate's captor. When he found him he was once again beating up a slave. Using the distraction Mogir snuck in and slit his throat with a single cut. He then dragged him out of his hut and to the central place of the village where he threw him on the bonfire that always burned in the heart of each village and fled.

News travelled fast though and it was only a few days later that Mogir was called before the elders. The abused slave, which came from Mogir's own tribe, had spoken and said it had been him that butchered the other pongid. Their verdict was as clear as it was cruel: Exile. Mogir had broken the holiest of traditions in murdering another and only the harshest punishment would do in that case. He was given till sunrise the next morning to get his things and say his goodbyes, though most of his tribesmen shunned him. When he wanted to say his farewell to his mate she was nowhere to be found. When he asked the next morning he heard she had gone to the other tribe to raise her baby among it's father's people. Bitter and angry Mogir turned away never to return.

Instead he made his way to a port city and took the first ship he encountered that went far away from those lands. The ship eventually landed him in Absalom.

In Absalom he started working at an import company, working both on unloading cargo and guarding the warehouse. Recently however the company has been shut down and the owner's arrested for their part in a smuggling ring as well as humanoid trafficking. Since then Mogir has simply been roaming the streets, accepting the occasional job to make enough money to feed himself but never for more than a few weeks.

The three question:
1) What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives? Be as specific and detailed as possible.
Brute force. That and a different view on many things. Mogir comes from a place where the values and standards are very different from what people are used to in the Inner Sea Region and as such he might shone a different light on things.
Mogir can also be very convincing.

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish??
Find his place in this new, strange world. That and securing access to imported fruits and spice from his homeland.
While Mogir isn't there yet at this point, I'd see him leading a crime ring, either as boss or underboss. The focus would be more towards smuggling of all kinds of things illegal and "acquisition" than assassinations. Not that he'd shy away from that, but it wouldn't be his focus.

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon.
It depends on how many people there are. If it's just one taking him out is the easiest way. Two or three might also be taking them out. More people and it's time to put on a show and see how they keep their cool when faced with an angry primate. If intimidation doesn't work climbing buildings tends to get you out of harms way as the amount of people that can follow you is small.
In the long run Mogir should be able to just wade through.

1) What, exactly, can you bring to the Blood Knives?
Kedrick can be anyone you want him to be: What do you need? Street begger, prince, diplomat..He can do all of these. He is built for infiltration both by stealth and disguise. Once deep under cover, he unveils his supernatural abilities. He can read thoughts and then convince his target of anything through lies and deceit. If that fails, he will charm the target through arcane magic. Most of all, he is the utmost professional.

2) You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish??
He would like to grow in power. He sees everyone he deals with as a chess piece. Heads of the organization as Kings, Queens, and knights...agents as pawns. He wants to continue to learn how to manipulate others to do his bidding. He sees a supernatural power growing in his blood and wants to continue to nurture it and learn to control it like he does others. Ultimately, he would like to be the boss. Most people are weak and need to be controlled.

3) You're caught in the act. How do you get away? Answering "I never get caught" is the wrong answer and will get you feed to my pet Daemon.
First of all, there is no reason to panick. Kedrick wil lie. He will search his captures' minds to find what they want to hear and then weave a story that strokes their egos. Once he finds out who is actually in control, he will charm them and control them. Even jail can become a chess match that can be won or lost by deceit and manipulation.

Next post, I'll answer the three big questions.

I've been itching to play a Face rouge for some time. A knife master with betrayer being a large focus. Simply a pretty faced elf who always gets her way whether it is handed to her or she takes it.

If this sounds like something you would like to see let me know I will build the stats and write a background.

I think you fellas posted in the wrong spot. This recruit thread isn't active. Not since Sept of last year anyway.

I'm guessing Hargran meant to post in the Discussion thread, and I'd have to wager you, Sault, saw this and figured it was open.

It happens.

Yep that is my dumb for not noticing. Sorry about that.
