The dagger is of masterwork quality, that's all.
Even knowing where Nilelane is supposed to be doesn't really allow anyone to see her as she blends into the shadows while searching ahead. Unfortunately your haste makes it difficult to explore thoroughly as the ground crumbles from beneath her feet, revealing a pit with several sharp stakes at the bottom.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Nilelane deftly avoids falling into the pit, springing backwards just in time. The pit is only 5 feet across, but narrow fissures open up on both sides of the walls just before the trap. They should be easy to squeeze through for everyone, even Dewdrop.
North fissure or South fissure?
Callanniel Breezeseer Dars'Mer |
Callanniel takes care to follow Nilelane's footsteps. In situations where a single wrong step could mean the end of your life, being blind made everything more terrifying.
GM Fez |
Nilelane continues to lead everyone through the tight passages. The fissure chosen doubles back to the main thorough fare about 15 feet behind the pit trap. The tunnel slowly expands as you continue along until it is 8 feet wide and 12 feet high. Ahead the light gets brighter and you can hear chanting.
Decay will steal all your might!
Daughter given, daughter took,
Cut mom open have a look!
Disease will spread and you don't mind,
Come back daughter to your kind!"
Torches begin to lead the way as the tunnel expands to 15 feet. It ends abruptly in a massive area filled with small crystals and rock formations that make a natural dais. At the foot of it is another cultist in robes, dagger out and looking wary. Atop the dais is Harpina, another female with grey skin, cruel horns, and yellow eyes, and a red-skinned demonic man with a pair of black horns sprouting from his brow. The other female, whom you can only assume is Saphron, is holding a dagger to Harpina's neck. Harpina herself is bound and gagged atop the dais. The demon looks at you as your group arrives.
"Unwelcome guests! It is always so good to see the mortals of this realm come along and stick their noses in business they don't understand. Though one of my lords requires his daughter's ascension it is perhaps I that will receive his blessings. Stand down before the might, and soon to be mightier Selanlar Virkas!"
I'll get maps up later tonight, this computer does not agree with google docs.

GM Fez |
I'm sorry guys, I got home way too late last night to work on this, I'll get the map up tonight.
The maniacal grin on Saphron's face drops slightly, "What do you know of friends? All I know is what these urges inside me tell me to do! Spill the blood, burn the tree, carry the disease..."
[spoiler=Kn. (Planes) DC 17]Unlike most demons, one does not need cold-iron when fighting a Cambion, though it is immune to electricity and poison, as well as resistant to acid, the cold, fire, and spells.

You aren't sure but Nilelane may have vomited in her mouth slightly at the sound of the Abyssal tongue. If so she is certainly hiding it well.

"I know it might be difficult to control such urges, but you must try, Saphron! With time you'll be able to control them, I'm sure about it, much like I was completely blind and now I can walk and fight once more... some paths we take are easier than the others, but those are usually the poorest choice!" Callanniel gestures with his spear.
"In the meantime, try at least to direct such urges... if you must spill blood, do so by killing demons, for their blood run much like ours... if you must burn the tree, we'll help, but the tree being burned will be the wicked Tanglebriar... if you need to carry the disease, carry it back to its source, and vanquish it once and for all! You have the power, girl, and also the choice... you were fed with lies and being used, do not harm the person who loves you the most, tell everyone that you are not a demon, show them!" Callanniel is ablaze, trying to convince Saphron to do the right choice.

Saphron's eyes widen and the knife nearly drops from her now nerveless fingers. Her grip firms and resolve sets about her like a mantle, she swiftly drags the dagger's blade upwards...releasing the gag around Harpina's mouth.
A storm crashes across Selenlar's face and his snarl is far more pronounced. "You fools will ruin everything! You!" he shouts at Saphron, "Kill her"

Question about the map because it affects my actions, the thick black lines along the top I assume denote a ledge of sorts how tall is it? The thinner lines on what looks to be steps how how are they. If it looks possible Corrin would charge forth on Dewdrop and try to reach miss saphron/harpina if possible but if it looks really steep or improbably he would do something else.
Corrin Whisperwind |
This'll prolly hurt *lawls*
He kicked Dewdrop into motion not quite shocking the elk but startling him a little ..maybe. He guided Dewdrop to rush forth towards the almost stair like appendage towards harpina and Saphron. As the elk scrambled up the ledge he tried to leap off into the young maiden and tackle her to the ground until she came to her senses.

His cruelty shines through his eyes as he rips through her armor and flesh. He does inadvertently help free Harpina from her chair, his serrated claws sliding through the ropes as easily as Nilelane's skin.
Now freed Harpina once again calls a beam of flame into her hands, ready to menace Selenlar with it. Saphron moves out from behind her mother in an attempt to help out, striking the Cambion with her claws.

Callanniel Breezeseer Dars'Mer |
For the sake of fairness, let's keep it a trip! This is a quite climatic battle and it would be less fun if I crited for x3 and killed the enemy in this situation.

Callanniel hears the sound of Corrin's spear piercing the cultist's body, as well as the sound of his footsteps coming closer to the cambion. Lady Harpina and Miss Saphron, we need to leave this place and take you to somewhere safe... this creature, Selenlar, we need to question him before putting him to an end."
"Any, Nilelane, could you search him for anything dangerous while I bind him? The threat to Omesta might have been dealt with, but there is still too much to be done until Kyonin is purged from its most dire plague."
Nilelane |
With her knife to Selenlar's throat she gives the blind man an incredulous look "Hey look, I found something dangerous...this thing is still somehow filled with the essence of life. *sigh* No, you're right...lets have a look for something more material then..."

GM Fez |
Harpina and Saphron are too busy hugging to pay much attention to your questions and concerns, trying, as it were, to make certain they both survived and this is not a dream or vision.
Other than his gear Nilelane only finds one interesting missive, tucked away in the false heel of Selenlar's boot. It is written in Abyssal, the very sight of which causes your eyes to strain and hair to smoke.
You make good progress, though it should come faster. All elves desire something, be sure to find it and press, look for the weakness in them and in their erstwhile allies the gnomes. Patience should be used in excess, sew the seeds of rot thoroughly, but slowly, and corruption will spread. And when my daughter returns to the fold kill the alchemist, she will be of no further use to us and more visions will not be sent her way.
-V.
Nilelane |
"...oh, what do we have here?" she holds up a slightly bloodstained missive in the torchlight before dropping the stinky boot heel hard to the cavern sands "...the correspondence of the damned?". Flicking the note open she takes the slightest peek before recoiling in disgust "...urg, this note is sour." closing one eye for protection "I'd say script is like Celestial, but the structures have been collapsed, and the accents are antithetical...Abyssal maybe?"
After everyone has had a look/sense, she quickly collapses the respectable looking equipment into a deerskin carrying sack, and nestles its sash over her shoulder. She pops up to leave instantly before noting the quivering duo, Harpina and Saphron, still blubbering in distress. "Hey, you coming or what? You were luckier than us I guess. Let's go, this isn't over yet. They want it all." she nods her head towards the exit.
Callanniel Breezeseer Dars'Mer |
"Abyssal, uh?" Callanniel questions. "I've been trying to learn it, even if it is a slow process for me, since I obviously can't read... the structures are indeed similar to celestial. Perhaps you could read it as if it was in celestial, and I'll try to comprehend and translate it?"
I just got a point into Linguistics for Abyssal. This doesn't really help, since Callanniel can't read. Perhaps we could do as he suggested?
GM Fez |
That'll work. Abyssal is all about free-form thought and expression where any given thing has no definition and is based solely on the context around it. Crazy language.
Harpina pulls herself together first and bundles Saphron in her cloak. "You are quite right, I think it is time that we depart this retched place." Saphron herself nods eagerly and allows everyone to lead the way.
Corrin Whisperwind |
The young druid was still glaring at the body of the enemy his knuckles whitening on his grip on the spear. It took everyone leaving for him to come back to himself.
"Co..co..come al..along Dewdrop."
He said softly pointing towards the exit with his spear before hopping off the ledge and hurrying to lead the way out with his friend. He paused at the entrance to the cave and took a long look about, almost as if he were looking for predators waiting for them before he once more led the way towards the city.

Nilelane does the best she can, working with the foul script as a tinker might try and repair broken cog-work. Over a few moments of doubting herself and correcting things after a quick relook, she manages "በፍጥነት እንዲመጣ እንኳ እናንተ ጥሩ እድገት ማድረግ. ሁሉም ይጽፉለታል ሊያገኙት እና ይጫኑ, ወደ ተዓምረኛዎች በእነርሱ ውስጥ... she pauses "...that's what it should sound like anyways...and then further 'ያለውን ድክመት እና ሊቀየመው ረዳቶች ውስጥ ለማየት እርግጠኛ ሁን, ነገር እወዳለሁ. ትዕግሥት በሚገባ በመበስበስ ዘር መስፋት, ከልክ ያለፈ ላይ መዋል ያለበት, ነገር ግን ቀስ በቀስ, እና ሙስና እዘረጋለሁ'...what do you make of it Cal?"
Callanniel Breezeseer Dars'Mer |
Callanniel concentrates as Nilelane reads the note aloud, his face frowned both from concentration and pain by hearing such cursed language. "It is a message to Selenlar, the leader we just now defeated. Someone, I presume his superior, is congratulating him on his good progress, albeit slow. He then instructs Salenlar to investigate what we elves desire to take advantage of that... more precisely, I believe he is instructing him to find out what that painter desired the most, in hopes of manipulating her, which we know he did."
"He finally instructs to kill the painter when his daughter is returned to him, saying that no more visions would be sent to her... there is no name on the signature, just a name... unless it is a personal rune, which I'm not familiar to."
"Along mentioning the possibility of manipulating us, the message also mentioned the gnomes... I wonder if there is anything in this cave that might give us a clue if he has anyone else under his wing..."
Hearing Harpina's suggestion to move, Callanniel nods, making a mental note to ask Harpina once more about Saphron's father. He is the one pulling the strings here, so we must know, even if it is painful for her to remember such thing...
GM Fez |
The sky is awash with autumnal colors as the sun begins to set. The shadows grow long and the day chill as you make your way back to Omesta proper. Harpina turns lightly away from Saphron and speaks softly, as though embarrassed, "Thank you for coming to my and my daughter's rescue. I'll admit I did not think too highly of you when we met, but you have proven yourselves time and again. Is there any favor I can give, to repay the kindness and care you have shown?"
