Halgrin |
Not seeing a good way to attack the minotaur, Halgrin instead tries to simply distract the beast enough for Katra to get in her own attack.
"Hey! Hey, you, you son of a steak! I'm going to mount your head on my wall!"
I'm taking the Help action to give Katra advantage on her attack roll.
Gram Luthar |
Gram dashes to the northernmost revealed intersection, and seeing that his allies are all bunched up against a foe he cant see he continues east and then north, trying to see if he can find a way to the monsters back.
Im no use here! I'm going to try to get around him!
Pawn's Dilemma GM |
Botting Katra.
Katra attk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Dam: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Mino attk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Mino dam: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Katra swings her warhammer at the minotaur but misses by a significant margin. The minotaur raises his axe and brings it down on her but only manages to land a glancing blow. 3 damage.
Gram finds a small opening in the wall where apparently the brickwork was damaged and hadn't been repaired yet.
Can squeeze through the opening as difficult terrain. Everyone GO!
Gram Luthar |
Gram continues to rush through squeezing through the opening as far as a dash will get him.
Gram Luthar |
Gram will drop his crossbow(I never said I put it away, which was dumb) and draw his rapier to attack.
Rapier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4
"Out of our way, beast!"
Halgrin |
Halgrin flipped the blade in his hand. And using his sword like a make-shift spear, he stabbed at the minotaur.
Sword, w/DIS: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Sword, w/DIS: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 <--
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Horat "The Bulwark" |
This position does not favour us, and time pressure means that we have less flexibility. Sheer force will have to suffice!
Horat decides to attempt sheer force.
Halberd: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Halberd, dis: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage, S: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Halberd End: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage, B: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Halberd: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Halberd, dis: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage, S: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Pawn's Dilemma GM |
Horat, disadvantage with the end of the halberd too.
Butt disadv: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Katra strikes a solid, dwarfish blow on the minotaur right in the opening created by Halgrin.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Dam: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The minotaur roars and attempts to strike back at Katra but again she deflects the blow with her shield.
Everyone, GO!
Gram Luthar |
Gram turns the corner and sneaks up to the minotaur drawing his rapier and attacking in one motion.
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Rapier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Horat "The Bulwark" |
Horat keeps trying, with additional magic imbued.
Booming blade
Halberd: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Halberd, dis: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Halberd end: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Halberd end, dis: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Halgrin |
Halgrin moves his sword in for another jabbing strike.
Sword, w/DIS: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 <--
Sword, w/DIS: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Pawn's Dilemma GM |
Gram sneaks up behind the minotaur. It notices him coming due to the light that starts shining from behind him, but Halgrin occupies it while Horat and Katra strike blows of their own. When it slumps to the ground, Gram turns back and looks at the key he noticed on the ground earlier near the broken portion of the wall that he snuck through.
38 xp each. Rounds remaining: 25/30. You can take up to two rounds worth of actions. It's fine with me if you want to take your movement/actions piece by piece as I reveal more of the map if you want to post frequently or just say something like "I use all my movement keeping my left hand on a wall."
Horat "The Bulwark" |
Horat urges on the others ahead of him.
"We have no time to waste! Can anyone see a path forward?"
Pawn's Dilemma GM |
Horat, can you be a little more specific? I'll interpret that as Horat moving forward but not going the direction Gram just came from but I don't want to accidentally move someone the wrong way.
Horat rushes forward and finds another T in the passageway.
Horat: +1 round. Gram, Halgrin, Katra at 0 round.
Horat "The Bulwark" |
Horat can't see well around the corner so he's urging the others to move forward, assuming there is a way.
ooc, he will continue his strategy of staying to the left unless someone points out a superior alternative.
Gram Luthar |
Gram will turn around and grab the key on his way to catch up with Horat. "We've got the first key! We'll need the other 2 to unlock the exit. Keep a sharp eye!"
Horat "The Bulwark" |
Horat will do his best to aid Gram in searching.
Can Horat assist Gram's perception & investigation checks?
Horat "The Bulwark" |
If Gram points out where he wants Horat to check?
Halgrin |
“Splitting up seems like a terrible idea. But I really don’t have a better one,” Halgrin says with a sigh. “I’ll go down this other way. Check the corners.”
Halgrin dashes 45 feet (9 squares) right.
Gram Luthar |
Gram shouts back to Halgrin "Agreed! Watch your back and shout if you run into trouble." to Horat "Let's check this way" and he uses the rest his move and 15ft of his next turn to make it to the northwest corner.
Gram Luthar |
Gram will us the rest of his movement and dash south down the corridor.
Pawn's Dilemma GM |
Map updated for Gram.
Gram twists and turns until he finds a dead end.
Gram: +2, Horat: +1, Halgrin: +3/4, Katra: 0. You can go until you get two turns ahead of the last person.
25/30 rounds remaining as of last person. There is a pattern, I assure you. Remember the opening Gram found was partially plastered up. So that's not normally part of the maze pattern. You'll want to have some time left over after the maze to deal too...
Horat "The Bulwark" |
[b]"There must be a pattern. Splitting up will speed this process, I think."[/]b
Horat pushes to the northeast, and continues searching along any corridor he finds there.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Horat "The Bulwark" |
Horat pulld out a torch and lights it, ready to throw it on the ground or at a foe.
Pawn's Dilemma GM |
Horat hears a heavy breathing around the corner. Another minotaur! The dark shape lunges around the corner!
Inits: 5d20 ⇒ (7, 16, 7, 18, 13) = 61
Attack Horat: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Dam: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The minotaur rounds the corner, hooves pounding. Horat strikes out as it approaches him but it still swings at him. But it's raging enthusiasm betrays the horned beast, who misses wildly.
Halgrin and Katra won init. If you want to be involved in the fight, it will take you quite a while to get there so I delayed your first round of actions but you still have them. Horat, you get an AoO as it charges. Everyone can go!
Horat "The Bulwark" |
In a blur, Horat drops his torch as he strikes at the charging beast.
Aoo from prior round: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Energies flow down his weapon as he continues to strike and strike!
Booming blade on halberd
Halberd: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Halberd End: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Aoo for this round: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Halgrin |
Halgrin continues down and to the right of his current position. I think we'll just need to trust that two players can handle a mini-minotaur. Hopefully either Gram or Katra can get there in time.
Pawn's Dilemma GM |
Yeah I'll probably make the map differently next time to be less confusing. I made it in roll20 then copied into Google slides because I wasn't getting roll20 to work as desired.
Gram, please let us know ahead of time if you're going to have tl miss a weekday or a weekend so I can bot you immediately and not have anyone waiting ony your action. Not a big deal. Just trying toake sure we stay on top of this from the get go. Botting now.
Gram moves around the corner and fires his crossbow at the minotaur.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Dam: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Dam: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Gram's bolt tries to find a way past Horat to strike the raging minotaur but can't and clatters off the brick harmlessly. The horned monster howls and raises his axe, bringing it sinking down into Horat's shoulder. The human falls to the ground, breathing heavily.
Death saves for Horat. Everyone GO! If Horat is revived, he has a 50% chance to act this turn.
Gram Luthar |
Ah. Got it.
Gram sees Horat go down and drops his crossbow. He draws his rapier, moves 20ft foward, and taunts the minotaur "You really shouldn't havr done that. Its blood for blood in Waterdeep and you've killed one of my comrades. You'll pay for it with your head!"
Vicious Mockery:DC 13 WIS save or take Psychic Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 and have disadvantage on the next attack roll he makes before the end of his next turn
Grams plan is to draw the minotaur towards him before picking up Horat with healing word. That way we can attack from both sides.
Halgrin |
Halgrin continues along the maze, with fear gripping his every step.
Continue up and to the left. Hopefully, I'll end up behind the minotaur.
Horat "The Bulwark" |
@Katra: Cheers!
Horat slumps, and bleeds.
Con: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
